Darren Teoh Shows Us His Slice of Kuala Lumpur

"I love stopping by PJ Old Town's Medan Selera food court for an ABC (also known as Ais Kacang, which loosely translates to 'mixed bean ice' is a common Malaysian dessert). There are two stalls here that serve it, and both versions bring a sense of nostalgia. Whenever I’m in the area, it’s my little tradition to grab one." - Theri Burhan

Variety of food and most of them quite delicious. I tried the soy sauce chicken. Not my type of food , bit salty for me but my husband loves it. The bak kut teh and Indian food are delicious. Bak kut teh for RM15 is worth the price. No need to go klang for BKT. Indian food one big packet for RM10. I think could feed 3 people. Give them a try.

Visited this place on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered a few varieties for takeaway. The yong tau fu taste ordinary , further marred by the fried brinjal, which is too 'burnt'. The popiah has not much 'leu' in it, thus not flavourful. I ordered the 3 combination chicken rice at Rm13, which I think is on the high side because the rice is not fragrant , and amount of meat is small. And the fried ginger onion beef noodle is a disappointment- no wok hei and tastes very bland. Finally the dumpling wan tan mee is nothing to shout about also. In conclusion- no second visit.

Street parking and walk over. A lot of stalls. I've been there since I was a kid. This food court is more than 50 years old. My all time favourite was claypot chicken rice. Think they have shifted to their own shop a stone throw away. I always buy Cendul and the stall is still there. This visit I ate chicken rice. The stall is crowded and qué to order whether to take away or dine in. Chicken, roast pork and char siew are decent. The star is the moist and flavourful rice. I ordered rojak and although it is good, the portion was way too small for RM8. This was the only disappointment and I will not patronise this stall again. The Yong tau foo stall is also into the 2nd generation. The food court is also famous for Indian rice. Spoiled for choice as the varieties of dishes tempted you from the rows and rows of dishes displayed. If you can leave without dining in air cond this is the place for you to indulge in a bit of nostalgia and great food that stood many decades.

Google
old timey food court. sustained excellence over the years. the anchor offerings are the ceylonese BLR and the hakka YTF; respective managed by an auntie and a pair of sisters. cantonese soul is also available right next door. the grouper is really good. the yee mee a notch below, being too heavy on the ginger. the BLR IS is outstanding, with the curries threading the gap between flavour and fire. ditto rojak and stuffed taufu. the hehkoh in the latter is particularly well calibrated, and the taufu shell itself both toothsome and tasty.

The place had plenty of food stalls, so variety wasn’t an issue—but unfortunately, most of the food I tried was pretty average. Nothing really stood out in terms of flavor. The cleanliness could definitely use some attention. A lot of the tables were dirty, and it didn’t look like they were being cleaned regularly. The atmosphere was what you’d expect from a typical medan selera—busy, noisy, and quite basic. It serves its purpose if you’re just there for a quick bite, but not somewhere I’d go out of my way for.

A friend recommended this place for lunch. We had a mix of meals from different stalls. Recommend a visit for food lovers. Loved the cendol and my friend says the ice kacang is even better.

A semi open air food court in PJ Old town next to the wet market. This food court is iconic, famous and been around for ages. Many choices available from mamak, Chinese to dessert options serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Car parks are available as well as parking complex next door.

Yelp
Many will say that the Old Town Food Court has seen better days, but I totally disagree. Yes, a lot of the shops are closed but I believe it is quality that matters, not quantity. There are still a number of shops operating but just not quite what it used to be in its heyday. But the ones that are left, well, serve pretty darn good food. An Oldie but goldie. Among the popular ones, it would be the Western food at Stall 33. Serving grilled meat, its popularity comes from the fact that it serves pork, fries and gravy are homemade and it is cheap. I'd recommend the grilled pork chop with garlic gravy which is priced at RM11. A steal! With generous amount of real garlic bits in your gravy, it gives a swift kick to your senses and leaves you tearing apart your meat. Another favourite is the curry fish head a few stalls down. On some days they can get pretty swamped and a wait is pretty much guaranteed. Do not let it deter you though. If I am not mistaken, the popiah lady another stall down was featured in the newspaper recently, which must mean it is good. So if your family or group of friends can't seem to agree on what to eat, why not bring them here? You'll find yourself remeniscing about the good'ol days.
