The Best Fun Date-Night Spots in Houston | Eater Houston

"A sports bar and a pickleball playground, PKL Social is a destination for socializing and a little friendly competition. Battle it out on one of its four state-of-the-art pickleball courts, which are available to rent online for $30 an hour, or hang out on the covered patio with a drink while watching your favorite sports event on one of its many TVs. Diners can also refresh with cocktails like frozen palomas and cherry limeades, plus dishes like burgers and garlic-parmesan wings from its nearby sister restaurant FM Kitchen & Bar." - Brittany Britto Garley

Atmosphere was nice very open Lots of TVs everywhere if you wanna watch the game or something, food was good and they have a bunch of outdoor activities. We could have a better server, but overall experience was not that bad.

PKL Social is a fun and lively spot—perfect for hanging out with friends and playing pickleball. The atmosphere is great, and it’s definitely a cool place to spend an afternoon. The food is just okay, a bit pricey for the portion sizes, and service can be a little slow, but the staff is friendly. One disappointing part of our visit was that two men were visibly drunk and harassing me and my friends. They were also being disrespectful toward some of the female staff. It made us feel uncomfortable, and I wish there were better security or staff awareness in situations like that. Overall, we had a good time, but I hope they take more care to ensure everyone feels safe and respected.

I just started going here because they play love island everyday. The people here are so welcoming and the environment is live and friendly. The smash burger is amazing and the cherry limeade is fire. You guys just got a new customer. Jimmy the GM is awesome too !

The overall vibe of this is place is unmatched. Love how they aired Love Island everyday all season long and had great deals for food and drinks with it. Haven’t played pickle-ball year but def makes me want to come back and give it a shot! Also, the chicken Caesar wrap 10/10

PKL is such a fun spot! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming — perfect for a pickleball birthday party with friends or a casual get-together. The drinks are on point, the food is way better than your average sports bar, and the service is always friendly and attentive. Whether you’re a total beginner or have some experience, it’s an awesome place to try out pickleball in a relaxed setting. It’s the perfect combo of socializing and staying active. Highly recommend for small groups looking to do something a little different!

Britney (“MissPretty”) at PKL was fantastic! She’s incredibly sweet and very informative. If for no other reason, I’d say stop by PKL just to see her. Plus, the cheese curds were amazing! Highly recommend!

I always have an amazing experience at PKL Social! The food and drinks are top-notch, and they have one of my favorite smash burgers in town. The staff is incredibly friendly, the pickleball courts are well-maintained, and there are plenty of TVs to catch your favorite sports while you hang out. It’s the perfect spot for great vibes and a fun time—highly recommend!

Google
A top of the line pickleball spot ran by a pro who knows what he’s doing - from court maintenance to customer service. I’m an avid player and have played many pickleball events here and every one was immaculately organized, food/drink service was proactive and very kind, and the overall experience is fantastic. This is what pickleball bars strive to be!

Yelp
Really nice that they have a free open play on three courts during the week-day, making it a very fun spot for a lunch break or quick team outing. They have covered seating with fans and televisions of various sizes. Ice cold water by the courts and a full restaurant and bar. Plenty of parking. Food came out relatively quickly (a colleague ordered before a game start and the food was delivered mid-game). I can't comment on the food and drink yet as I didn't have any, but the drinks are pretty reasonably priced. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
I'm a little late to the pickleball craze, but better let than never right? At work, we try to do some fun activities outside of work every so often. Team building if you will. Pickleball was the activity chosen this time around and I was more than excited to try it out. We booked ahead a few weeks out and the availability for a couple of courts was on a Tuesday night. I thought it might be a little slow, but I was wrong. The lot is a decent size but packed. I was lucky enough to get a spot as someone pulled off. PKL is a concept from the owners behind FM Kitchen & Bar which is connected hence the busy parking lot. It's pretty clear which side is which, but it can be confusing where to order food and drinks. Now both have bars and both serve food, but if you order from FM, you can only get it to go if you are hanging out in the pickleball area. Customer service was ok. The guy manning the bar wasn't very friendly and seemed to be more focused on his friends. Our server on the other hand was outstanding and very attentive. She got them the extra star! Pickleball. New to me, but definitely a popular thing these days. The courts are popping up all over the place. This place is cool as it only allows customers that are 21 and up. Nothing wrong with having kids, but it's nice to be able to drink and swing paddles around without worrying about knocking out a little rugrat. We reserved two courts for about 12-14 of us. With a group that size, you have an option of two courts for an 1.5 hours each. Otherwise, you have the option of reserving at 30 minutes or 1 hour blocks at 30 dollars an hour. It's really not a bad price especially if you have a larger group like ourselves. You can bring your own equipment or rent theirs for a small fee at their pro shop. There are plenty of seating options, along with TVs everywhere and an outdoor bathroom. They have water coolers set up but they were not too good about refilling them as they got empty. They also were not very good about cleaning tables either. We ordered food but the closest, clean tables was away from our belongings and courts. There were also issues with people not getting off the courts at the end of their times. There was nobody enforcing this. We had to wait because the people before us claimed they didn't get on their court on time. Sounds like a personal problem. We had to find someone to get them off because we did pay for a certain time. As far as the courts itself. Well maintained. We had fun. Food and drink wise, PKL has their own menus separate from FM Kitchen. The drink menu is pretty solid with cocktail, beer and wine choices. I ordered a craft draft beer which was nice and cold and decently prices. They were running a $5 smashburger special which most of us got. The burger itself was solid. I like that they use fresh jalapenos on it. The fries were really good but came at an additional charge as opposed to ordering the burger off the regular menu. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food and drinks. Overall, I found out I like pickleball! As this was my first visit to a pickleball venue, I have nothing to compare it to. A good time was had but there are definitely things they need to work on.

Yelp
Had a great time dining at PKL Social! The servers are very attentive and will check up on you constantly. I love that the menu is available via QR code and you also have the option of ordering and paying all at once through the web app. My favorite dish was the super food grain bowl. It was wayyy more filling than you'd expect and is a great healthy dinner option that'll leave you satisfied. I couldn't even finish all my sweet potato fries (which were fried perfectly). One thing I will mention: If you plan on playing pickle ball, be sure to reserve your courts well in advance. My group found that this wasn't the best place for open play as they only have a small number of outdoor courts. If you prefer getting several games in without committing to a court reservation, you can also head to Pickleball Social, which offers more dedicated open play courts that you can queue up multiple times for.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening with co-workers. Made reservations earlier in the week and was only able to secure a 30-minute slot. Would highly recommend booking a court earlier if you want an hour+ of play time. It's $15 per half hour (so $30 for an hour) and if you want to rent paddles, they're $5 each for the reservation. We were lucky enough to get the solo court. There are other courts in the back, but no separation. So there's possibility of other people's balls ending up on your court. Plenty of outdoor seating, mixture between high chairs and picnic benches. Fans located at the corners for those hot days. Good amount of TVs throughout. They have happy hour (PKL rally hour) 3pm-6:30pm, which included $5 domestic draft beers, $2 off all cocktails and wines, and 25% off snacks/apps. Drinks were decent. Four types of frozen drinks - margarita, frosé, Paloma, and mango chamoy. We ordered some apps. Recommend the pretzels. Chicken flautas were okay, they were small! I'd personally pass on the nachos. Heard from my other coworkers that the queso was good, but can't speak on it personally. Overall, had a good time with my coworkers. Would return again. And they had a lot of parking available, considering the area it's in. My only complaint is the parking spots are kinda tight.

Yelp
I attended the Friends & Family event this week and felt like my prayers for a beautiful/aesthetically pleasing pickleball facility were answered! PKL is the perfect combination of relaxed and fun with good vibes (and food!!) all around. The four outdoor courts are shades of bright blues complementing the covered green turf and bright accent painted seating area. The spacing of the courts and seating area as well as the decor seem very well thought out, which makes sense considering the owner himself is a high-level pickleball player. PKL is perfect for both the competitive and casual player. Regardless of which skill level you are, you'll need food and drinks to re-fuel. I had the opportunity to try the softs pretzels, cheese curds, chips and guac, brussel sprouts, coconut shrimp bowl, and carne asada bowl. The food is usually an afterthought at most "fun" pickleball facilities and honestly even at some sports bars... Luckily, FM Kitchen is the very successful adjoining restaurant that executes the PKL Social menu. Food was very tasty and service was spot-on throughout the night, so I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Great new pickleball sports bar in the Heights! There are 4 courts so reservations are required and can be made online in 30 minute increments. If you don't have paddles, you can rent from them as well. The balls are provided on the court. The outdoor area overlooking the courts is covered with plenty of seating and TV's. There are attentive servers there to take your order for food and drinks from FM Kitchen, which is located next door. There are also complimentary water stations throughout. The courts itself are nicely maintained. My unathletic friends and I didn't find it overly competitive and the people playing around us were friendly and didn't complain when we accidentally hit our balls into their courts (numerous times). I only wish the courts were covered- it's going to be very hot out there in the summer. Otherwise, I look forward to coming back again. P.S. There is a fairly large private parking lot- definitely a plus!

Yelp
PKL Social is the newest pickleball sports bar just off of Washington Street. There are four courts, a large patio space with group tables and large screen TVs, and a few high top bar seats under the covered bar area. It's worth noting that the bar is connected to FM kitchen and also that court reservations are required, and available in 30 minute intervals. This was minus a star for me. While my friend and I arrived with no intention of playing, I can see how people who don't do research ahead of time might show up without a reservation. I would recommend having one court available for in person sign ups. Practical matters next: paddle rentals are available and there is a decent sized parking lot. Staff are attentive for water refills and drink orders. Two gender neutral bathrooms are available just for PKL. Overall, PKL has a nice outdoor space to hangout with friends while watching games or enjoying the weather. Drinks are a little more on the expensive end for a sports bar ($12 for cocktails and $35 for a seltzer bucket) but I guess this can be expected for Washington area. I would come back and might even try a game next time. Check them out.

Yelp
Came to this spot to play some pickle ball with co workers and it was really fun. The court rental fees aren't outrageous and the food was pretty good, I mean I only had a salad but it was good and the waitstaff was really friendly and speedy. It's a nice chill spot for a sunny day. Parking is plenty and bathrooms are clean. Go by and check it out before it starts to get outrageously hot outside.

Yelp
Came for a birthday celebration! Let me tell you no experience required so don't hesitate to try out pickle ball! Despite coming during the hottest part of the day, we were able to stay cool under the shaded areas and water that was provided! We snacked on fried pickles and I must say, they were pretty good! I'm not a fan of pickles but I would eat their fried pickles if opportunity presented itself again. Did cool off with some frozen cocktails; frose was amazing and the Mango Chamoy was popular in our group! Definitely a great activity to partake in if you're wanting to try something new in Houston !

Yelp
Fantastic place to do a bday party !!! Was Able to reserve two courts and chill by tables for an awesome bday venue !! Drinks were awesome - esp all the margarita flavors ! Food was really good too - wings and nachos ! Had an incredible time ! Recommend highly ! Also appreciate PKL for helping me book the place ahead of time and being accommodating !

Yelp
Stopped by late Friday night - not too busy and didn't expect people to be playing because it was cold and windy but all courts were booked. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The lounge areas are great for gatherings. I prefer indoor pickleball but this is a great place if we want to hang with some friends and have a few drinks in a casual setting. Next visit, we'll be trying the food.

Yelp
Price for pickle ball courts are good, I reserved for 2 hours and got some good play in. Not sure why in between courts there are large gaps. It was kind of annoying to have our balls or other peoples balls constantly rolling over while we were playing. I would say the food was okay. I enjoyed the fried pickles but the wings were a bit over done and dry. What I am disappointed in was the service. My friend ordered a coke (it comes in a can btw) and it was never brought out. Curious as to why we couldn't get her coke while the food took 30 minutes to make. We had to go up to the bar and grab it ourselves. This was her 3rd time at Pkl social since it's been opened and this has happened 3/3 times. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but for it to happen 3 times on different occasions and to have servers tell you either "you never ordered it" and your order "doesn't exist" is ridiculous. I will come again for the pickleball, but not for food and drinks.
