"I learned that PKL Social (pronounced “pickle”) — a new pickleball-focused bar from the owners of FM Kitchen & Bar — will open this fall at 1102 Shepherd Drive. It will feature four pay-to-play pickleball courts, a covered deck available for private events, various yard games, cabanas, big-screen TVs, and more than 10,000 square feet of dog-friendly patio space. The bar will host sports leagues, clinics, and drop-in “open-play” times for players to compete and network, and will serve cocktails, beer, seltzers, non-alcoholic options, and a menu that includes some of FM Kitchen & Bar’s most popular dishes such as the juicy FM Burger, spicy fried chicken sandwich, wings, tater tots, and breakfast tacos. Operating partner Jason Mok says the idea came after playing pickleball in Austin and, as a former Rice University tennis player, he views pickleball as an approachable hybrid of badminton, ping pong, and tennis that he wants to make more accessible in Houston." - Brittany Britto Garley
