They are working with some great flavors here. That is what the rating is all about mostly.
Ambiance is a bit upscale, but not stuffy. Cool bar and always busy.
Waited longer than I would have hoped for an expected for having made reservations. Not that I wanted to rush or anything, but I thought the two plus hours I spent in there (without drinking) was too long. Our server was great when he was there, and as we were further into our experience, he became less available. The final straw was when we were finishing up. We were ready to leave with a card in hand for likely 20 minutes with no signs of him at all. He came back joking about 'wanting to leave us to enjoy our evenings more,' but I was not amused and wanted to leave long ago. If the food was not so good, I would easily drop it down to a 3 star review.
Artichoke dip appetizer - ridiculously good, and unexpected.
French onion soup - delicious. Somehow the bread they put in there does not get completely soggy.
The bread - he asked a couple times if we would like this (it is complimentary I believe), but they really should just bring it. It should be brought when we hit the table. I don't think they forgot, I think it is a tactic to make you buy more appetizers and cut down on food cost. Didn't like that really. The bread board was good, two different warm kinds of rolls. A whipped honey butter I believe it was, some oil, and an olive tapenade.
Ribeye, medium rare, risotto, asparagus. I opted for the one on the regular menu; they had one that was a special with a sauce on it, but it was like $8 more. Everything about the steak, the presentation, the risotto, the asparagus was phenomenal. Worth the price tag and the reason I will certainly come back.
My partner enjoyed her wahoo off the special menu. The server gave her risotto instead of mashed potatoes which she ordered, then made a comment about him thinking he got it right. Ah, no you didn't. Even if you did, it is not an acceptable comment. The mashed potatoes were not edible; they had way too much raw garlic. She also enjoyed her fancy bottle of tea they had.
Lots of room for improvement, but I found it difficult to rank under a 4 because the chefs deserve so much more than that. Step it up front of house :)
