A downtown institution since the 1980s, famous for fresh flour tortillas and holiday tamales. Reopened after renovations in August 2025, per Community Impact; still family‑run and central to Plano food traditions.

Walked in and was promptly greeted by a smiling happy young lady who sat us and was our waitress. Dropped off menus and took our drinks order. Came back with drinks as well as chips and salsa. The chips are amazing! Light and crispy. Ordered Huevos Rancheros Mexicano and my son had breakfast tacos. My son thoroughly enjoyed his tacos and my eggs were cooked to prefect and everything was delicious. Owner stopped by greeted us to make sure everything was great. We will return.

Found out about this place from a “Foodies” FB group. Glad we did!! The Tuesday special Taco platter was VERY filling and their homemade guacamole 🥑 was delicious. The $5 margaritas were very good also. We found out this restaurant has been in the family for 38 years… WOW 😳. We want to go back for breakfast soon. The owners are so nice, really make you feel appreciated.

Work for healthcare company and the office wanted to try out their food off my suggestion being how I had a taco once before that was pretty good. So we ordered in and spent right at $100 (tip included) Never again, do not get they dry unseasoned papas (potatoes). We called to let them know how hard and nasty they are and she ask for a picture as proof. Comical! (Literally every plate had them except mine thank God and they all did not get eaten) I can do better than picture, I went back up there and she took her hand and tried to feel for a hard potato one by one as if we have to lie, “one is a little hard but this one not, this one either” like are we serious rn not even noticing I brought dang near full plate back mam! But bc I glanced at the food before I left and “they been doin this for 38 years” they couldn’t do much lmao what does that have to do with how horrible they are. TASTE AND TEXTURE. Oh and apparently they cook them with bacon which you would think would help the taste out. DONT! that’s something that should be mentioned bein how everyone doesn’t eat pork. Claim its on the menu and it’s not at all, not online anyway just stated as a side. Then the older looking lady behind the counter I think Jackie clearly needs anger management bc why you so madddd behind some potato’s lol. Word of advice listen to the reviews cause they’ll do everything in they power to not refund..not even a partial one at that. $38 credit out of $97 tab is crazy but it’ll do. STICK TO TACOS… but idk someone else in a previous review said their tortilla was stale. Yikes. 2 star only cause I was lucky enough to get good tacos.

Came in due to the ratings of others, however I don’t understand why now, I almost immediately wanted to leave and go elsewhere after looking at the menu, however I thought we’d give it a try. The menu is confusing, my daughter just wanted a bean and cheese taco, I was told that it would be $5 to build it. So I just ordered a plate instead since it came with refried beans and added some cheese. It turns out that the plate didn’t even come with beans despite it’s specifically saying it does. Our waitress was understanding and brought it anyway. The cheese brought out was a very small portion which I later sound out was $2!!! Our waitress understood and said she would ring it up for .25¢ which was reasonable considering. All in all, based on the tortillas and refried beans lacking a traditional Tex-Mex flavor; the place is nice and inviting inside with the decor being newer and vibrant. I mentioned the inadequacies of our meal and she offered to get the owner, I really just wanted to pay and go, but the owner offered to give 10% off for my dissatisfaction and I accepted. I didn’t really have the time to describe to them in full detail and to the extension which to improve, but I do appreciate them trying to make it better. I had just learned that they just opened, so hopefully they will improve over time. Pricing needs to be reworked and adjustments to the menu should be looked at for sure though.

This place is fantastic. Great energy, staff really friendly and accommodating. Inside looks amazing and new. Love the the restroom sink. Great touch. The food was superb. They give you a complementary chips and salsa while you’re waiting. I ordered 3 tacos Al pastor, carnitas, and brisket. Favorite was carnitas 🔥 The fries they made were good too! Crispy and flavorful. Great finger food. Surprising I really like the Tamales. The pork was amazing with rice and beans. Highly recommend asking for home green salsa and pour it over or dip with the tamales. Hands down great experience. Thank you again will be coming be coming back.

Google
I don’t know how they get a 4.7 rating unless it’s from the previous owners. The service was basically non existent. We asked to be moved because we were sat right next to another family which was basically at their table. I understand it’s a small place but there were other tables open. The waiter acted like he was put out when we asked to move. The food was highly over priced and was below sub par. The salsa was tasteless and literally a water texture. I ordered a $15 taco salad and they added $4 for chicken fajita. You would think a $19 salad would be bubbling over full but it barely had any lettuce or chicken. It was mainly sour cream and guacamole. I had to ask 3 times for my son’s tortillas. $60 For 2 salads, rice, beans, a cup of queso and 3 tortillas. They seem to want to only wait the tables with alcohol. My mother called to complain and the owner didn’t care and told her to not come back and didn’t want our business. Then hung up. I will be surprised if there folks keep this place open long with this kind of attitude.

Having been raised 30 minutes from the Mexico border, finding good Tex-Mex in North Texas has always been tough. This place finally gave me some comfort. The flavors weren’t exactly like the South Texas restaurants I remember, but the way they used their ingredients reminded me of coming home from school to my mom’s enchiladas. Something I haven’t experienced in over 20 years.

Google
Plano Tortilla Factory - I had beef fajitas last week and I had to go back for more yesterday. Good quality beef, generous amount of both beef and the accompanying onions and peppers. Happy hour margaritas and a "feels- like-home" dining area. The service is a bit slow but with chips, salsa and tasty margaritas in front of us, we were in no hurry. The owner bought the restaurant from her grandparents and updated inside and out. It is reminiscent of my favorite hometown mex in San Antonio. We will be back!

Yelp
YOU MUST GO HERE!!! We've been a couple of times since they reopened with younger family members taking over and remodeling, and it's been a winner both times. They are honoring the family tradition very well, yet updating and adding their own flair. Let's talk cocktails first. We've had a couple different margaritas, and honestly, the house frozen is my favorite. Not too sweet, has plenty tequila, it's the best. We also had Mexican Candy shots with friends, as delicious as they were beautiful and done absolutely right!!! We've eaten enchiladas with chili con carne and also with queso. We like to add some onions. Both were delicious. Their chili and their queso are great!! We also have had the guisada and had a taste of the carnitas on our last visit. Oh, so very outstanding. Really good beans and rice, every thing is hot and fresh. The salsa is a thinner, smoother texture, which I tend to prefer and it didn't disappoint. So flavorful!! Crispy chips - also very good!! I waited a couple extra days so I could review the dozen tamales we picked up. We used to get them at Aparicio's in McKinney (same family) back in the day. They became a family tradition for New Year's Eve every year. Jessica mentioned they had tamales, so we grabbed a dozen spicy pork ones. We had them for supper tonight, best tamales we've had in a very long time. Grateful for Jessica giving us the heads up. Looking forward to restoring the family tradition this year!!

Yelp
This place is new and I wanted to give them a try. Unfortunately, I will not be back. There was not an ounce of seasoning in the food besides salt. The guac was just mashed, no jalepano, no cilantro, no red onion. The rice was just tomato and rice. Beans was just cheese and beans. The chicken was also not seasoned. Overpriced bland food. I ordered the taco and chalupa plate but I couldn't tell which one was the taco and which one was the chalupa. They were both tostadas which, is weird bc that's not what I ordered. They didn't give any salsa or sauce to go. That's so weird. I have never been to any Mexican restaurant that didn't give you any sauce. I also ordered a pack of ten tortilla and they were ok. Place is not authentic, will pass next time. They're also scammers. My taco and chalupa plate was $15.99 the tortillas were 10 for $4. My total should have been $21.63 with tax but they charged me $22.43 I tipped $3 so $25.43. The worst lunch and I got scammed

Yelp
Beautiful remodel and the service was excellent. We had the chilaquiles verde with beef added and a carne guisada plate, both served with their fresh made flour tortillas. Both dishes were so satisfying and the waitress was so sweet and professional. Really nice to see the restaurant doing so well! The fajitas looked amazing at the table next to us and we both agreed to get that next trip.

Yelp
We been coming to this location for decades. The atmosphere and owners hospitality were always great as well as the food. This is about our 3rd visit since the remodel and younger family members taking over. They are off to a great start with the atmosphere and food. This morning I had a beef, lettuce & tomato taco with a side of beans and potatoes and the wife had the migas plate. Everything was great.

Yelp
This restaurant has been carefully decorated and the service and staff were friendly and efficient. Cost was reasonable. My son and his girlfriend enjoyed their meals and plan on returning. My only gripe was with the flour tortillas which I found to be surprisingly not up to par. The corn tortillas were fine.

Yelp
Some of our team members recommended our group eat lunch here. I hadn't been since the change in ownership and remodel. Gosh are they good!!!! Food was excellently prepared and very filling, all at a great price. I'll definitely be back and already plan to order my Christmas tamales from this talented team. Service was terrific also.

Yelp
Glad to see PTF open. Nice new renovation. This was our first time. Service was excellent and the food was great. More authentic Mexican/TexMex. The tortillas were fantastic...$4 for 10 to-go. We look forward to going back.

Yelp
This place was fantastic. I'd never been here before the new ownership (granddaughter of the founders) took over and they remodeled, but wow, this is really well done. The decor is so well done, perfect colors, accents, the mural wall, even the bathroom is beautiful. The chips and salsa were great, perfectly thick chips like I like (not the wimpy thin ones that fell apart). The salsa was smooth and spicy without being too much. I had the guisado tacos, one beef, one pork. I wasn't really familiar with this style, but it's not like Tex-Mex grilled pork, steak, or chicken. It's more the traditional style of cubed meat that's been cooked in sauces. I don't usually get this, but I'm glad I did, because it was so good. The pork melted in my mouth. The beef was what I expected, both with lots of broth soaking the tortillas. This isn't finger food. You'll want a fork. The beans and rice were good, about what you'd get anywhere, tasty, good portions. Don't miss this place. It's so nice and the food is very good!

Yelp
Well thus is my first time back siince they closed for a year or so. Still in the family, the grandchildren aquired the business from their grandparents. Had my old usual breakfast, chorizo and egg plate. It's like they never closed, my breakfast was totally excellent. The grandkids are doing their grandparents proud. Service great and reasonably priced as well as well. Very glad they're back. I've been a patron of PTF for 40 years. It wouldn't be Plano without them.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this cute restaurant with friendly people to greet us. But the food wasn't good and the margarita was weak. I had the carnitas, which were not very flavorful and a bit dried out, though attractively plated. The corn tortillas that came with them were served nice and hot, but were tough. The guacamole was good though, and helped with the dryness of the meat.

Yelp
The food was fantastic, had best steak fajitas, yummy, on fresh made tortillas. Service was excellent with fast and friendly staff. The restaurant made me feel at home, nice family ambiance. Bartender did great job on my skinny margaritas. I highly recommend this place!!!!!

Ron B.

Yelp
This place has really gone down hill. They take forever to fill your order. Recently I waited 25 minutes with no one ahead of me. I had to ask why it was taking so long. When I got my order, the tops of the hot sauce containers were loosened and it spilled all over the containers. I brought it back and they said they put the sauce in a separate bag they were half full. The eggs were scorched and the tortillas were stale. The lesson is never to complain to these folks because they will take it out in your food.

Yelp
Thank you to the person who recommended Plano Tortilla Factory Restaurant and Bar! Today is their 3rd day reopened. We loved it! We had their Chicken Tortilla Soup, Carne Guisado tacos, & Perfect Margaritas! The place looks great and the service was amazing! It's a family affair here which just made it stand apart. We will be back!! Sorry we ate all the food and forgot to take photos!
