"Guidebooks often describe Platea Madrid as a food hall, but that description doesn't even begin to cover the experience, which brings together six Michelin-starred eateries in the same place. The first thing you'll notice is the space—a movie theater that's been completely renovated to create mezzanine-style platforms littered with tables and chairs (all within view of the stage itself, which remains intact and often hosts live musical performances). Each mezzanine offers several dining options, from tapas to pizza to seafood, supplemented by bars offering cocktails and wines for pairing. This is a popular spot, so finding seating can be a little tricky, but the food's so good that standing room isn't necessarily a bad option."

Platea is a gastronomic and cultural space located in the heart of Madrid, Spain. It is situated in a former cinema, and it has been transformed into a multi-level venue that combines culinary experiences with entertainment. Here are some key aspects of Platea: 1. **Gastronomy:** Platea is known for its diverse culinary offerings, featuring a variety of restaurants and food stalls offering gourmet cuisine. Visitors can explore different culinary styles and flavors, ranging from traditional Spanish dishes to international cuisines. 2. **Bars and Lounges:** The venue includes several bars and lounges where guests can enjoy a wide range of beverages, including cocktails and fine wines. 3. **Live Performances:** Platea often hosts live performances, including music, theater, and other cultural events. The concept of the place is to have dinner while you are listening to music or watching an acrobatic show. One of the things I noticed is the varied audience. There were families coming with grandparents, parents and kids, there were group of friends, there were couples and everything in between. The live DJ was good. The music was just right. Giving place to have conversation but present at the same time. The live show band performed covers of worldwide hits along local songs, and in between a short acrobatic show. A bit scary as they were without a safety net. The overall experience is fun. The only drawback is the dishes were a bit small but the great company compensated. Worth to come. Pls note that sitting is on availability so you may wait a while. Enjoy.

That’s a lovely place. It’s got a big space with different bars, on the second floor there’s some restaurants. Atmosphere is amazing, I believe on weekend there’s always some sort of a concert program, or maybe throughout the week, not sure. I’ve been there a few times on Fridays mostly. Prices are a bit higher than average, but I guess this place is considered a bit fancy. It’s worth to try out, cocktails are incredible.

Google
One of the coolest places to go in Madrid . It's the biggest food center in Europe with everything . You can find an amazing restaurant in the last floor. In the second floor you have the option of getting drinks and food and seeing and watching a live band. It's very hip this place and in the bottom floor you can sit down and enjoy food for almost every ethnicity. It's a very nice place to take you loved one . Or even family and friends . The ambient is really good to talk and enjoy whatever you wanna enjoy. The food is yummi and I can recommend it to everybody .

Google
The food was incredibly conceived and executed. Familiar flavors with a beautiful presentation but at the same time it was something completely new. Service was attentive and friendly. I loved the live music too. Will definitely be coming back.

Google
THIS is the place where you withdraw from the city and enjoy great food, wonderful vermout and other drinks. The service is very professional and always with a smile. They all speak great English. Do enjoy!

Google
Good concept. You can sample different country cuisines on a restaurant setting with DJ playing live music. The Japanese teriyaki chicken is too salty but the Peruvian raw fish is something new. The rib is tender and the spaghetti is good.

Google
ECLECTIC FUSION OF SPANISH AND ASIAN CUISINES. Behind Canalla Bistro is Spanish chef Ricard Camarena, whose eponymous restaurant in Valencia has earned him two Michelin stars. The menu combines traditional Spanish dishes (e.g. croquetas, calamar, ensadilla rusa) with Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other Asian elements (e.g. Peking duck, Karaage chicken, Pad Thai). In distinction to other fine dining restaurants, Canalla Bistro offers a somewhat less formal, more "urban" experience. This nonchalant vibe is enhanced by its location on the first floor of Platea Madrid, a gourmet food hall with several other eateries, swathes of people, a DJ and club-like noise levels. It's more a place to go out than to have a peaceful dinner. In my opinion, it's a unique atmosphere with great culinary value. I take one star for the sloppy service, which is unreasonably slow and erratic for Spanish standards. (Note: Many of the other reviews here don't seem to be about Canalla Bistro but rather about the other restaurants and bars in Platea.)

Yelp
Not sure how this is kid friendly of a place? Like I went with my toddler and the music was so loud and there were barely and ramps that I could easily locate for the stroller? I am sure I sound like the ugly American tourist but when I think kid friendly I think toddlers and strollers and ease of mobility. It was loud and crowded with a confusing ordering system. This is probably the spot for young singles or folks with older kids but I would not recommend for families with young toddlers

Yelp
Awesome awesome place if you would like to experience lots of food options including amazing tapas, live music and dance all in one great location; with mostly locals. Very classy and secure so no need to worry about crowds and pick pockets. Must go if you are in Madrid.
google avatar

Kelvin C.

Yelp
If your looking for a laid-back kid friendly place to eat, this is pretty much a one-stop shop. They have multiple eateries for food, a couple bars for drinks, and free entertainment. When I went on a saturday night, this place was poppin' with a live singer/band and a stunt show. The food is a little pricey here but you're paying for the entertainment. I highly recommend this place if you're living around the Madrid Colon Area. Make sure to visit their vermouth bar and try their tap selections. Outrageous.

Yelp
Note: I never give bad reviews. EVER. But this is a concern for public health post. I got food poisoning from salmon at Pintxoteca and was sick for 3 out of my 4 days in Madrid. I know for a fact the root cause of my sickness because that salmon tapa (pictured below) was the only thing all day (all TRIP) that my friend did not eat that I ate. As for Platea Madrid as a whole, It's a beautiful place with a few floors of different varieties of foods to choose from. There's a sit down restaurant if you choose; and a floor just for drinks and tapas and another floor for tapas, drinks and coffee. Prices were a bit high for what it was but that's to be expected in a touristy area. Ordered two vermouths from the waiter - $16€ and 3 small tapas from Pintxoteca - 10€ Definitely seemed like a night time spot because when we went around 3 PM it was fairly empty

Yelp
The service was not good at all. We Aidee for white wine and it wasn't cold enough. I don't recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
A really cool spot!! Really gorgeous venue with many levels. Great place to go grab drinks. They have a live DJ but it can get a little loud during the day if you are trying to have a chat. Feels like Vegas with the DJ up top. Waiters come take your order for drinks and serve you but you have to go get food. They are scattered all around ranging from cheeses and meats to croquettes etc. A must to check out in the trendy little high end neighborhood in Salamanca. A hidden gem indeed...our hotel staff recommended.

Yelp
Interesting modern twist on the long established "food court" found at so many shopping centres. The difference here is that the food is more upmarket yet very reasonably priced. Between the 3 of us we sampled nachos with guacamole, a slice of pizza, spaghetti carbonara, Iberian pork cheeks, a mixed Peruvian platter (Anticuchos) of swordfish and steak skewers and a hamburger slider!  Two glasses of wine and a diet coke later and the bill was €60 excluding tip.  We ate around 8pm and there was a DJ knocking out the tunes, I'm sure the audience changes as the night wears on. The building looks like a 70's block of flats from the outside and is easily missed but a journey there is worthwhile.
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
The food was very average but the space is amazing. We tried the papas bravas and croquetas on a Friday afternoon. The food came out rather quickly but the service at the bar was slow.
google avatar

Daniel J.

Yelp
Amazingly cool venue. Gets very busy but a cool place to come for a glass of wine and some quick tapas or jamon.
google avatar

Rocio R.

Yelp
Food hall style, with three floors! Really fun place, you can enjoy Michelin star rated food at the first floor or listen to some typical Spanish music while enjoying authentic Spanish food - Padrón peppers, octopus, croquetas, the list goes on... great to meet with friends and relax.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
This area is like a small mall/food court/market? On our trip the weather was awful and the place was dead. It was very depressing. I'd imagine maybe in the summer time this place might be more lively.
google avatar

Lo P.

Yelp
Platea is very cool think food hall meets theatre meet restaurant and that's what you have. This is a multi level venue with a stage complete with Dj's and circus performances while you dine. One floor has dozens of food vendors and bars you can order from while the second floor is a normal seated restaurant with 10 different cuisines and menus you can order from. Great for date night, tourists or weekends.
google avatar

Judith G.

Yelp
I loveeee this place! If your in Madrid make sure to pay them a visit! Fun place to have a few drinks and some tapas or even dinner downstairs. Service is fast and I believe they do their best to be attentive as it gets very busy. I have taken friends with children and although it gets quite loud it's completely children friendly. They have events and almost always have a DJ on the weekends. They are located between metro stops Serrano and Colon brown 4 and green 5 lines.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Had a blast! They have anything you're looking for! Food was great, desserts were amazing, good drinks (although pricey)
google avatar

Bryan J.

Yelp
This is more of a tapas mercado that Madrid locals will frequent than a more touristic place like the famous Mercado San Miguel--though here at Platea they've converted an old theater to be a destination ambiance that is still something unique and up-scale. More food variety and generally better chefs here I think than the touristic centre -- yet still moderately afforable -- in a nice neighborhood and near the "Fifth Avenue" shopping area of Madrid. Check it out. (Between Colón and Serrano stops on Metro Line 4.)
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
This is a cool place to grab a drink or bite to eat. It was an old theater that's now a multi level place with different walk up bars and food places. We sat at one of the bars so I'm. I'm not sure how service worked if you sat at the common tables but there were servers out and about. They kept the stage and a DJ was there when we where, it had a upbeat energy. The one strange thing was when we ordered a drink they brought the bill out with the drinks which is very un-Spain like.

Yelp
I was surprised to see many negative reviews of Platea, a converted cinema which now houses several floors of gourmet food courts and restaurants (not unlike Mercado de San Antón). You can enter through a green grocers filled with attractively arranged fresh fruit and vegetables, the small size of which perfectly contrasts with the spacious elegance of the atrium. We found it pretty buzzing on a Sunday evening, but service was pretty quick and it wasn't too difficult to find a table for too. At €6.50 for two sodas, it isn't cheap and I imagine the food is pricey too, although it looked pretty good to me. However I would definitely visit again simply for the charming ambience. The old screen is still in use and on the occasion I visited was showing some utterly delightful animated shorts about an adorable mole that were made in the Czech Republic in the 1950s (created by illustrator Zdeněk Miler) - good for children too!
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
This place is the real deal! An old theater turned culinary wonderland! Multi-level experience with an international influence, yet staying true to its Spanish culture. Prices are great and the food is first class! The Jamón stand is incredible, the wait staff is very friendly, and the music (with a live DJ) makes the place feel alive, even when it is not crowded. Great for people watching, date night or just for drinks and tapas with some friends. This place is amazing! I wish we could build something like it back in Miami!

Yelp
I recommend coming here for the ambiance. Platea Madrid is a massive food hall that was once an art deco theatre. Fantastic idea. It is clear that no expense was spared in the conversion. The cafeteria style food hall is on the ground floor and the lower floor was a restaurant. The setting is nothing short of spectacular. The food is delicious but that is hardly a challenge to find in Madrid. The place has a vast selection (a theatre's worth) of meats, cheeses, and tapas. A lovely place to have a sophisticated lunch.

Yelp
Stopped by after a day of shopping in Salamanca. Rustic trendy atmosphere, dj playing deep house, enjoyed some tapas and a refreshing Viento de Verano. Perfect place to relax and start you evening with cool vibes.
google avatar

Mrs. E.

Yelp
Little too sceny for us especially with the lone dj rocking out by himself - felt like the place is trying too hard. However, it was air conditioned and I can see how it is a good spot to relax with friends while shopping. I don't think you should go out of your way to check this place out but it's a good stop if you are in the neighborhood.

Karen L.

Yelp
Excellent for entertainment and cocktails! There are 6 floors with 6 different restaurants and bars catering to whatever kind of night you want; quite date, or crazy night out, or drinks with your friends? This place has it all. I'd recommend going before the first show begins at 9:45 if you want to get a good seat at one of the 5 restaurants above the stage.
google avatar

Star H.

Yelp
The Platea was simply amazing. It's a converted theater into a fancy yet casual adult food court. The set up for this place was cool every floor had something to offer for everyone. The cocktails the food and service was excellent. The variety was my favorite because you had the flexibility to order from a variety of different restaurants menus, from appetizers to small plates, and main course.

David M.

Yelp
Platea Madrid is an old theater turned into a gastronomic center, with chic bars and restaurants. Being different is it's best feature. They have a huge screen - where originally the movies were displayed - and now they have live performances in the evening. Also there are a few shops selling gourmet products, and a big beautiful fruit shop with rate tropical fruits most of which I had never seen before. We've been here a couple of times and I think it's worth a visit, although the prices are a bit to high.
google avatar

Annai S.

Yelp
Great place for food and drinks on a Friday night in Madrid. A good location in Colon. The place itself is breathtaking it is beautiful it used to be a very old cinema very elegant with severs floors and a huge screen. Which is still playing videos to go to the live music playing quite often or shows. The place is surrounded by different tapas places you can find everything seafood, jamon, all the Spanish food you can imagine we had croquetas different flavored jamon, vegetables, squid, Gorgonzola, mushrooms, morcilla all delicious. Then we tried some pintxos olives filled with feta salmon and some others with jamon. We then went to tapas we tried the crab salad, the morcilla roll, the mushroom filled pastry and the chorizo roll. The place is very interesting with high chairs, good cocktails, nice music. There is also normal tables and couches a little bit for everyone's taste
google avatar

Søren H.

Yelp
An old theatre transformed into a foodcourt. There are great cocktails and a good view from the upper level.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Great place for siesta after shopping in nearby Salamanca, nice places that get jamon and drinks.
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
Beautiful place. Excellent tapas. A bit overpriced. Surprisingly coffee and omlet were just ok, but the rest of the food was excellent. Good place to grab a bite in Salamanka neighborhood.

Sandie B.

Yelp
What a great "hidden" gem. I walked through the little market and was shocked to find this huge space filled with bars and food options. I wound up eating downstairs (where the ambience is far less cool but they seemed to have more food options) and had a delicious chicken tagine. Like really, amazingly flavorful! Service was friendly, though no one spoke English.

Philine H.

Yelp
Best Barkeeper ever + awesome drinks + delicious food + good wine + good atmosphere = great evening
google avatar

Rogelio R.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere and a superb venue. It was an old theatre that has been successfully turned into a modern gastronomical centre. You can easily spend the day there and feel as time flies fast. The location itself is pretty privileged as it is on a nice and active area of Madrid. The food is decent. It is good but not as good as you would expect, given the venue and the high prices, which are to be expected as it is trying to give a more "fancy" image. If it weren't for the atmosphere and the music it would not be anything outstanding. But as I said, the food is good. I just feel like it has potential for more.
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
If they had a place like this in Miami, I'd come here all of the time. They were able to transform an old theater into several restaurants and bars. The also have several tiers and at the bottom tier where we sat, they formed a restaurant that had several restaurants mixed into one where you could order anything from each restaurant such as sushi, Italian, Argentinean, Spanish and Mexican. It has such an array to cater to any customer that enters through the unique glass doors. If you're in Spain, for sure come and check this place out as it's something worth remembering.

Tat L.

Yelp
A wonderful place, a gastronomic center where you can find very original snacks, dishes and drinks from around the world. New concept. An interesting place to visit and spend time!

Melanie C.

Yelp
Platea is an old theater renovated into a super nice food court. It looks like a place right out of the Great Gatsby. They have live performances there and on the 2nd floor they have a restaurant called Arriba which is opened by a Michelin chef. Apparently that restaurant has the best view of the stage. There are lots of different foods you can choose and they are all really good. You can't really go wrong with any of the choices here. The food is a little on the pricey side, but it is definitely a nice place to sit and eat. Plateau is in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid which is the wealthiest area in Madrid. Definitely a much more posh crowd here, but a great place to eat and chill.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Amazing venue and good quality food. Not the cheapest market type option for the vermut but definitely less crowded and more comfortable than other options. Good to go with prams too.
google avatar

Fabio Y.

Yelp
Cool place with live music (on Fridays evening at least). It is perfect place to have a drink and tapas with friends. There are several places serving jamon, cheese, various tapas, wine and beer in a common lounge with tables. Drop by to meet the Madrilenos and tourists.m

Annie G.

Yelp
By far the coolest restaurant I have ever been to!! This is composed of four different floors and each floor is different with different foods. My favorite floor is the bottom because you can see the stage but it is not too loud and you can see the whole restaurant. The only bad thing is the food was not amazing (but I am also allergic to dairy soy and gluten so that limits my options anywhere!) My friends and family loved their meals!!
google avatar

Gabrielle W.

Yelp
Pricy but fun and glamorous. I recommend the basement to everyone it's casual and never too crowded but has the selection of food you crave. I recommend the variety of tacos. Also how it works: walk downstairs, read the menus, order at each menus respective booth, wait for your buzzer to fire and get your food. There aren't waiters and if you want drinks you have to go to the bar. Only downside, it's pricy and kind of in a dead spot between Salamanca and Plaza de Colon

Mark G.

Yelp
Very interesting and unique experience. A multi-level collection of restaurants in a converted art deco theatre. We sat at a self-serve table and visited various tapas stations: ham and cheese, Thai, seafood, etc. Great food. Amazing venue. Great casual dining spot. Great spot for a tourist to pull up a chair and have a drink and a snack. Never seen anything quite like it.
google avatar

Dominique F.

Yelp
I love the space, and the tapas while slightly overpriced are delicious. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
Super cool environment. Ok food with kind of high prices. You should go there just for some copas and few tapas.

Mari I.

Yelp
This is an old theater in the Plaza Colon area, turned into a huge & very sophisticated Food Court (the best part of the big space) -- plus a regular restaurant (it did not interested me) and a big bar-lounge floor. I loved entering Platea through a small door --and finding this huge and dramatic space with amazing lighting, tables and booths. It was great and so modern and different! Waiters bring you the drinks to the tables as one wait for the electronic gadget to vibrate --and one can go and get the food ordered. There are around 30 or more kiosks for all kinds of cold and hot food (the lower level has the best hot food but is not as fun to sit there)...From caviar & stone crabs to Serrano ham, croquetas, cod fritters, canapés, all kinds of cheeses, etc, etc. Downstairs there is Mexican and Peruvian kiosks; Spanish 'potage' soups like Lentils or some other 'stew'; and a grill with roasted chicken and hamburgers. While we eat in a relaxed ambiance, there are videos playing in the huge screen --and at night there are live shows. The food in itself was fine, basic.

Mauricio A.

Yelp
The food is good at the most, average in most places but most definitely not up to the high prices they charge, very, very expensive specially for the terrible service, waiters and waitresses are indifferent and rude. Will not come back and will not recommend. In Madrid, stick to the traditional.

Biggie F.

Yelp
This place is so great. We couldn't stay away. Found ourself there for tapas and drinks before dinner. Found ourselves there after dinner. Found ourselves there for dinner. Sometimes multiple things same night. Great quality in food, great prices, cool ambiance. Everything that is so snarky and phony in the U.S. tapas environment ("We suggest three plates for each person ...") is so well-done (laid back, professional, friendly) here. Currently having withdrawal symptoms.
google avatar

Gary M.

Yelp
I can only give advice about the tapas posts on the top floor. You visit whatever stall you wish, you pay for your tapas st that stalll and you bring them to your table. Someone will come around and ask what you would like to drink. You pay that person for tour drinks st tour table. The tapas are generally excellent in their inventiveness, freshness and taste, and they are quite reasonably priced. I particularly enjoyed the "flauta" (bocadillo) of Jamon Iberico de bellota with trufles. The rioja cost 4 euros a glass and was also excellent .The ambience is very unusual and appealing as the place apparently used to be an immense theater. On the top floor tables are arranged in a circle looking down on other restaurant seating below, but uf you're thinking Americsn mall, don't. It's all very tasteful and different. I only visited downstsirs briefly, but I did notice an Italian and an Asian restaurant. There is also a gourmet market and an excellent coffee shop on the top floor with very friendly service. I would definitely return here again.

Eileen Z.

Yelp
We were at the hotel next door and never knew this was here. Found it the last night. Loved the vermouth. Thought the tapas was good. Music was great. Bar was comfy. Wish we found it sooner!
