Platypus Brewing

Was in there on Saturday. Had just come from Japanese garden and had a bit of a thirst on me. The gentleman behind the bar Manning the tap system was exceedingly knowledgeable. It was so refreshing having a non-Hazy pale ale on tap. And then I did appreciate his adding his own touch to my second choice as I do and so enjoy West Coast ipas. He gave me a small sample of each and ultimately I chose one. But quite honestly either one would have been great. We'll definitely hit here again when I visit Houston the next time. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Drinks 10/10 Service 10/10 Food 3/10 The service was so welcoming and friendly and timely. The beer was great and we love a brewery that also offers cocktails. Margarita was excellent. We loved the outdoor seating (at first, but the mosquitos became an issue later in our lunch). Unfortunately the food was no good. Wings were pale and unappetizing. Meat pie was not good. Burger toppings were excellent but patty itself was not good at all. Would not return for food.

Crikey! Platypus is awesome beer and food mates! Chill industrial space with nice outdoor seating. Wide selection of tasty beer…Out of Orbit Hazy nice and fruity crisp, Kiss My Piney is a nice dank IPA without being overwhelming. Our chiko rolls with sauce were tasty and sauce has a nice kick. Brussels would have been better if not sautéed whole. Fish ‘n chips with malt vinegar top notch. Knowledgeable attentive staff, patrons discussing international sports while March Madness was in TV, everyone really laid back. On top for Down Under!

this was our second time here and we loved it again. The beer is great we had the orbit IPA, a hazy IPA it was delicious. The food is fantastic as well, had the wings with brussels and a yummy farm raised beef burger with beets and goat cheese. (no bun in the picture). food is great

Great brewpub. Owner was there chatting with customers. Great in house breaded fish and chips! Outstanding beers. “Out of Orbit” IPA is off the chart awesome! Love places like this with their own idea, their own theme and their own in house brews!

Platypus Brewing is a bloody rippa of a pub! Their Bobby Dazzler, a crisp Australian Blonde Ale with honey and Topaz hops, and Freckled Dingo, a refreshing lemony pale ale, are standout beers. The Australian flair shines through in the vibe and menu—think Aussie-inspired pub grub. Great patio, friendly staff, and a fun, laid-back atmosphere. Highly recommend

If you like food variety, beers that taste different from typical brews, and a laid back space you can drink at for hours this is the spot. I love their Wednesday steak night, the fish and chips special on Friday is OUTSTANDING and all day Happy Hour on Tuesdays is a no brainer. I’m going to have to come back for their trivia night soon to see what the vibe is like. Highly recommend, owners are very hands on and bar staff are knowledgeable about all things beer. Found this on my morning run while visiting Houston. Went there to watch Germany vs Scotland, which was on all TVs. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Had the fish and chips, but they were fries instead of chips and seasoned with something that wasn't necessary. Good beers with a wide selection. Loved the Australian references. Good music. I'll definitely visit again.

My car was damaged outside of Platypus during the derecho/tornado. They announced that someone's car was damaged and then gave me what I needed to clean up and protect my car from further damage. Damn good food and beers too!

Love the Rugby Jersey! The beer is good but need more sours. Very nice tap room and outdoor patio.

Platypus Brewing company is an absolute H-town gem! A friend and I happened upon this spot on Sunday Funday, and we had a fantastic time!!! First of all, the staff were sooooo polite, down to earth, and had excellent recommendations and customer service. That's hard to come by these days, so s/o to them! Second of all, the food was amazing, we had the Sunday house special which was THE MOST AMAZING chicken Parmesan over a bed of fancy fries, which were absolutely amazing. These "fancy fries" gave "mama's fried potatoes" and that made my soul happy. We also devoured one of their flatbreads with pepperoni, crumbled sausage, and jalepeno Now let's get into the vibes.... Omg Platypus Brewing understood the assignment! There's a 21+ game room upstairs that seals the deal. You get to walk through the brewery room with the cauldrons of good stuff, go up some stairs, and there's a room with plenty of leather couches and chairs (I love that cuz fabric couches give me the heebie jeebies, but enough about me) to hurkle Durkle on (is it still hurkle durkling if you're not at home? Probably not, but it's a great place to lounge about.) They have 2 TVs, with guitar hero on one and some raspberry contraption that allowed me to play N64 Mario kart racing on the other. It was truly a gem! You can also use the TVs to stream your shows as they have firesticks on both, and we were the only ones there. Definitely gives hidden speakeasy/ sneaky link spot . Excellent all the way around. The beer is absurdly good and the food pairs well. Their pineapple/ jalapeño sour is one of the best beers in Houston. We also tried the sausage roll and meat pie. You cannot go wrong with either option.

The owner and the bartender are really awesome. The beer was really good, and the conversation about rugby, the Australian flavor in the beer, and a little soccer war entertaining.

Was craving steak and was in the area so decided to check this brewery out. To get the steak night promotion price, you need to order an alcoholic beverage with it. I ordered the steak with brussel sprouts as the side. The beer I tried was the Bobby Dazzler which is an Australian Blonde Ale. If you're a fan of light beers, the Bobby Dazzler is the one to get. I ordered the steak rare but it came out closer to medium to medium well which was quite disappointing. Loved the brussel sprouts though, highly recommend the sprouts if you're having a tough choice deciding on a side. I'll probably give this place a try again in the future just to try their other beer selection.

Platypus brewing is one of those places where I would often drive past, but never have a good chance to come visit. Ultimately, we found an afternoon where we were around the area and had a chance to enjoy the neighborhood brewery. You'll notice the familiar feel of outdoor wooden patio seating and games for all to play. Right inside are you bar favorites of high wooden tables, clean area to sit and some tables for families. All you got to do is go up to the bar and take a look at their nice menu of different style beers. Some of my favorite styles to go to is the coffee porter and amberye they had. Both the flavors were very standard and nothin bad about them, but my ultimate favorite coffee porter hands down is 8th wonders and Platypus's unfortunately did not come close. Either way, Platypus is a great spot to enjoy a few during the day. Glad I came to try it out.

I love this place. The fish and chips are amazing and the beer is brewed there on the premises.. so delicious! The whole menu is Australian-based and it is such a unique treat.

The service was great. Very attentive! The food was great, we got the fish and chips since we came during lent. We came towards the end of the day but looking forward to coming back!

Love this place. Decided to come to them and vice the silly Japanese restaurant around the corner that you can't get in without a reservation. We met Attoy & Jesse James, and they were the utmost professionals. Attoy graciously walked us through the amazing beers and food, and Jesse James was cool and chill. This place is truly a great place, great people, and great food. You can't go wrong eating and drinking here. We highly recommend Platypus Brewery. 5 stars all the way. Btw, get the fish & chips and fancy fries, recommended by Attoy. Thank you again, Platypus Brewery! We will return. Cheers !

Good service, good beer (I got the stout), good snacks, good place you stop with the kids since there are games they can play while the adults watch the game or whatever...lol.. Fancy fries recommended by the kids!

The Aussie burger is delish! The Olé Chit beer is a better version of Dos XX. Great atmosphere and vibe. Great service too. One of my fav breweries in Houston.

Youthful vibe. Fairly big covered beer garden but the heat might have you retreating for AC like we did. Inconsistent service. Did a mid-afternoon stop amidst a brewery crawl and the beers at Platypus are decent but unmemorable. Still appreciative of cold brews on a hot day. We were seated at the bar and it was quite odd that they kept stacking dirty dishes, glasses, and sampler trays to the the right us without clearing them. Bartenders were apathetic just standing there doing nothing while ignoring the mess next to us. Wouldn't warrant a specific trip here but if you're in the neighborhood, check it off the list I guess.

The atmosphere is bright and upbeat. First time or 20th, ypu feel welcone. The brews are top notch, with a varied list of offerings. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable without being snooty or training to push you to a featured product like some places do. they really want you to find what fits your palate best. The food is yummy, especially the fancy fries & grilledsprouts.

Cool games on the lounge area. Chill seating outside. Staff is amazing! Beer is great!

One of my favorite breweries to visit in Houston. The staff is awesome. The beer is delicious and so is the food. Great atmosphere! Would recommend to anyone who hasn't tried this gem yet!

Ended up stopping here during a trip to Houston because we love local breweries and the name was just too amusing not to visit. It was a rainy day, but the patio ended up being perfect - we were able to grab a few seats that weren't dripping wet. We had some solid beers, I tried the oktoberfest and the aussie lager while my husband had an IPA and a hefeweizen. The hefe was unique in that didn't have some the typical notes of banana and clove, and he really enjoyed it. We also split the pretzel bites - pleasantly surprised they were slightly fried! The honey butter was also an amazing (and uncommon) dipping option. Super bummed they were not doing flights - something about being out of the glasses? Would have love to have tried a few more beers! We really enjoyed being able to watch most of the KU / Houston football game, but were so disappointed when they switched the tv to a different game. We tried asking the staff if they would switch another tv back over for us, as one had a game no one seemed to be watching. We were told they'd ask a manager, but nothing happened so we had to finish the game on our phones. Regardless, glad we could watch most of the game!

I always enjoy the brewery. They offer a nice selection. I especially like their seasonal fruited beer, I believe it is made with blackberries.

Good beer. Worst steak night ever. My steak was essentially a pile of gristle. I still get queasy thinking about it and we went a few weeks ago. Normally, I'd send it back and ask for something else but I came in starving and completely lost my appetite trying to eat this pile of chewy gristly disgustingness. Not sure if they cooked it properly to temp, as there was no color or steak to look at. It will probably be a minute before I go back there to eat because my food was seriously that bad- and next time I'll go vegetarian. However, we appreciated the easy parking, good beer, nice crowd and service.

Came after work one day, and was a great spot to stumble in on. Great beer selection, staff was so friendly. Didn't get any food but next time i definitely will. Calm environment to hang out in with duel levels. Went to Australia a couple years ago so great to find a spot that celebrates a unique culture and vibe that we don't find often in Houston. 100% will be back.

I came in early right after opening, and it was very relaxed and the bartender was very welcoming. The music was great and not too loud. The beer is fantastic, it's the first time I've actually visited the brewery but I've had the beer from grocery stores. And it really blew my mind! I loved the helga saison and the stars at night. The food was pretty good. Flat bread could be a touch more crispy, but I really enjoyed the sweet potato and Brussels sprouts that were added to it. The chips and salsa was really good, I would recommend serving the salsa warm. The cold salsa brings out more of the garlic than the other flavors that are in the salsa, maybe more roasted peppers as well?

Service was extremely slow, ordered a 2nd appetizer that we never received. First appetizer was chips and queso and chips were soft and stale. It was our first time visit and unfortunately wouldn't return

Service is excellent here. We also tried almost every brew. The brew masters here clearly know their stuff. No disappoints. Highly recommend.

Carlos is 5plus star. He KILLS it when it comes to making drinks and taking great care of guests. He is always smiling and brings great energy Jesse always says hey when I come in and they know my order. Love this place and the amazing staff.

The atmosphere was great from the start! was greeted with a smile and doors opened for us by one of the partners of the brewery. Came to celebrate our anniversary with steak & prawns and a drink which was brought up to the upstairs lounge which also included games and all! will definitely coming back again

I love going to a Brewpub with a nice welcoming atmosphere. This is that place. A great place to relax with your friends or your dog. the Fish and Chips could use some work but all in all a great place to have a brew after work.

Lauren and James were awesome. They provided great options for drinks and food. The IPA and the coffee porter was our favorites. I would highly recommend this place for soccer and rugby as they show a lot of European sports at this bar. Thank y'all so much for the great time

While the beer is always good the service is even better! My friends and I really enjoy sitting around the fire pits they have available.

Never been here this was my first time I don't drink but for drinks it's recommended according to my friends that were drinking. So when it comes to drinks it's not bad and cool atmosphere to hang out and relax. BUT for food definitely look else where we all had burgers and they were terrible fried burnt and tasted liken old oil ,burgers were nasty tasted like Gad or some odd after taste as if they do not clean the grill . I didn't speak to management but did speak to one of the guys bringing food out . He understood and said would tell them in the kitchen, but I would not recommend this place for anyone that's hungry go somewhere else but it is a cool location to be outside. So I recommend if you drink but if you're hungry don't think about eating here burger was $15 plus tax and it's not even worth that. Pictures attached eat first than come drink here. One guy came out from the back and helped us I ate mine and my 2 friends didn't he took care of there's but not mine because I ate it, I was hungry so I rather eat vs be hungry but that was cool at least.

Love your beer. The brewhouse area is delightful with inside (aircon!) and outside options aplenty and TV's to watch when that all important game is on. Your staff are great, knowledgeable about your beers, friendly and helpful and just the right amount of attentive. I hope you prosper and make beer for many years to come!

What a great place to chill for 1 drink or hangout and watch a game for many. Service is always great and keeps me coming inand love to bring my friends here. My go-to from now on is the wings & brussels, other things are good but can't get over these 2 things. Lately they have really stepped up their game in all categories.
