PLS on Post, a Casual New Burger Restaurant, Now Open at Hotel Zepplin Near Union Square - Eater SF

"There’s a groovy new restaurant open near Union Square. As of August 30, PLS on Post has opened on the ground floor of the Hotel Zeppelin, taking over the former home of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s Postrio restaurant. PLS on Post aims to be a casual option for happy hour or dinner, open from 4 to 10 p.m. daily, with a menu built around classic Americana fare including burgers, milkshakes, and a list of highball cocktails." - Lauren Saria

Me and my wife stopped by PLS on Post on the last day of our little getaway in the city. It was a quiet Wednesday night with only a few other people there, which made it feel relaxed and low key. The service was quick, and the staff was friendly but kept to themselves, which we didn’t mind. The atmosphere was clean and chill TV on, comfy vibe. Feels like the kind of spot where you can grab a good burger and a beer without the fuss. The burgers were pretty solid I'd say better than average and prices weren’t bad at all for being in the city. Definitely a nice little spot to stop at if you’re in the area.

We hit up PLS on Post last night primarily because of its prime location near the venue where we were catching a show. It's got a fun, lively vibe -think counter-service burger joint meets full bar. Service was quick and friendly. My burger was, in a word, messy (definitely a knife-and-fork situation), but undeniably delicious. The patty itself was incredibly flavorful, and added bacon which was tasty, good quality, and perfectly cooked. I'd happily go back just for the burger! However, the fries were a letdown. Floppy and bordering on soggy, they just didn't live up to the deliciousness of the burger. We were really looking forward to trying their incredible-sounding shakes, only to find out they were out of ice cream. Bummer! The menu is pretty limited to just burgers, so don't expect a ton of variety. Overall, PLS on Post is a decent choice for a solid burger if you're in the area, even with the disappointing sides and lack of shakes. I'm rounding my 3.5-star experience up to 4 stars based on that stellar burger.

I went to halal guys right after I ate here. Despite requesting extra crispy fries, I was served a soggy and almost warm basket of limp fries. The burger, while decent, only managed a modest 6 out of 10 rating. Somehow even the Diet Coke tasted weird. Overall, the inconsistent quality earned this eatery a disappointing 2 out of 5. With room for improvement, I hope they step up their fry game in the future. I can see how tourists who are coming in hungry and are desperate may have written reviews that led me astray.

Google
Fun new casual burger spot with a great selection of cocktails too. Ordered the Mission Smash burger which was flavorful and a decent amount of food, but I do wish it was a little more spicy. I definitely want to come back to try their shakes. We went on a Friday night and it was not crowded so we got our food very quickly and had no issue finding a spot to sit. Good convenient location.

Google
Tired from long flight from London. 2 hungry teenagers, stumbled across this amazing burger joint. Atmosphere was amazing, fabulous friendly service, burgers were super tasty and great value for money. To top it all the selection of craft beers are fab.

Google
Lovely little place, good food, the blue cheese burger was really good, the classic one was just fine - just a classic burger, good nonetheless. Fries were decent, and the people were welcoming! I would come back.

Google
Delicious cocktails & an out of this world Kimchi burger, with a side of pickled veggies. If it sounds strange, then this new hot spot is too cool for you. (-; The shakes sound amazing too, and since we didn’t try one we’ll be back! Warm & friendly service with the sexy Zeppelin hotel vibe. And a fun cartoon arcade downstairs!

Amazing milkshakes! Burger was decent! Very affordable!

Yelp
We contacted PLS for a last-minute company happy hour for 20+ people and they did not disappoint! Hotel concierge and restaurant manager were flexible and accommodating. Bartender served great cocktails and the salty snacks were the perfect compliment. Will definitely go back for our next meetup in the city

Yelp
Happy hour! I'm always in search of one and this place has it daily and also late night on weeknights (Thursday to Saturday) Came in for dessert only. They have amazing milkshakes. They're pricy ($16-20) but you can add alcohol and they are monstrous. Chock full of candy and toppings. Modern interior, walk up to order / pay and get a number and sit wherever you like. A bright place more diner-style than bar. Others seemed to enjoy their burgers / fries.

Yelp
Yummy smash burgers and fries! The burger was fresh, it had a sauce on it that was a bit sweeter than typical burger sauces, but I thought it actually complimented the sour pickles well. When I think of a smash burger, I think of crispy, lacey edges and a really thin patty, this wasn't that type of smash burger but some people prefer the not-so-smashed smash burgers. The fries were a good texture and they have homemade ketchup that's not too sweet. My cocktail which had Tito's, orange, and other similar flavors was definitely strong but still balanced, it paired well with the burger. Pretty expensive for burgers but it is a nice establishment and located next to an adjoining hotel lobby. The quality and freshness definitely came through and made it worth it.

Yelp
You order when you walk in. Bartender was pleasant and efficient. We placed our order and sat down. A few minutes later they brought our food to our table: Classic American Smash burger (one well, one medium-well), side of shoestring fries, a chocolate shake, and a Funfetti shake. Everything was really good. The smash burgers were done just right, the toppings were nice and fresh. Burgers cooked to perfection. Fries were excellent, and the shakes were frosty perfection. Would definitely reorder.

Yelp
Dang that burger was off the chart. We met some friends and I wasn't sure I was hungry after a late lunch, so I split the blue cheese smash with fries. It looked huge, but it was so tasty that not a crumb was left behind. Good bar selection and great service. The menu is mostly burgers, fries and shakes, including boozy ones. They have a side salad and maybe a mushroom sandwich, so it's not a place to eat healthy. But with a burger that good, just eat a burger!

Yelp
The food was so good, and the service was amazing and the ambiance was great!! I loved the overall vibe of the place, and I will definitely be going back. 10/10

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food. I had the bleu cheese burger and it was amazing. I don't eat a lot of meat - but this was worth the meat! It's was a super clean and had a cool vibe/decor. The staff was super friendly. Would definitely recommend and will be back when I'm in a burger mood

Yelp
Small bar / burger joint attached to fun looking hotel. Being a local, I've never actually stayed at the hotel, but seems to have a lot more rocking personality than like a generic Marriott. The restaurant looks like it might be a proper table service type of pub place, but you actually order and pay at the counter then take a number to your table. So I guess it's technically fast casual / counter service, though nicer ambiance than like a Super Duper. Burgers are tasty and shakes are very creative. Classic American Smash: It was simple, yet delicious. The wide crispy smashed patty and the American cheese were so comforting. I also liked the mishmash of caramelized onions and raw red onions. Felt a little pricey at $15 for just the burger when a similarly sized and quality burger at Super Duper is $10. Funfetti Shake: Took longer to make than my burger to make, but it did seem very elaborate. The presentation of sprinkles pasted on the side with frosting and gummy bears and gummy warms everywhere was great. The milkshake did taste like cake batter and was great for people who like that taste and like vanilla. Very filling, I think it was the right call to skip the fries and just get this.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great Smashburger and downtown San Francisco, then this is the place for you! When you walk in, you will be greeted by a gentleman who is ready to receive your order and you will pay for it right when you order. The place is open and spacious with a good vibe, but with great smash burgers! I absolutely love this burger as well as the orange shake that complemented it! The bathrooms are connected to the hotel so you've gotta go downstairs which is a little out-of-the-way, but as I mentioned, this place is connected to the hotel so you are in for an adventure if you're going to use the restroom! I absolutely love this place and would recommend it next time. You're in town are staying in the financial district of San Francisco!

Yelp
Good burgers, great bar. This is a new restaurant with a cool ambiance and classic rock playing in the background. I was surprised by the quality of their tequila and rums. There is good beer on tap too, wine, etc. The burger is good. Quality ingredients and good flavor . However a bit greasy and a bit sweet for five stars. I know it is San Francisco , but $45 for a burger, beer and fries (with tip) seems a bit much. Still, a good option to grab a bite and a drink

Yelp
Good food fast and friendly staff. Burger was juicy fries were hot. Drinks were drinks.

Yelp
You can't just pop up on me in my area with a good burger and expect me not to rate it. I'm simply doing my job here. PLS opens up right in my face under a year ago and I didn't notice until now. I got right to business. This is a legit burger. But word of advice, go light on the veggies. Who needs vegetables you know? I'm having a juicy fatty burger. Don't put a salad on top of it. Once I looked past that I realized I had a really quality smash burger here. I was very happy about what was in my mouth. The fries were substantial. You got to ask for that house sauce for dipping. That house sauce is the real winner here. Obviously I saw these insane milkshakes too and I had no choice but to get one. It was loaded with extra goodies. Super expensive but I get it. It was a premium shake for real. PLS as in please give me another burger. Really solid place guys. (4.3 Stars)

Yelp
PLS on Post is a little burger gem. I opted for the Kimchi Smash and added an additional smash patty and an egg over easy. The result, pure burger bliss! The ingredients were super fresh with zero grease. The combination of flavors was perfectly balanced. This burger was so awesome, I seriously thought about ordering another one. Happy Hour specials from 4pm to 6:30pm are a nice touch. The bar is full up and local craft beer is on tap. I'll definitely be back to PLS on Post!

Yelp
Amazing burger. Originally I asked to have it split in half because I normally eat half of my burger and take it home. I ate the whole thing one sitting. Service was great! Looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu.

Yelp
Love this place! We're staying at the Zeppelin Hotel and this is just downstairs. At first glance, it appeared that the menu was rather limited, but in fact, there was something for everyone and it was all fantastic! Burgers with all the extras. Sides. Shakes, Floats. The burgers were cooked to perfection but what really stood out were the pickled vegetables! A great assortment of vegetables, pickled beautifully. Lunch here tomorrow is looking good.

Yelp
Food was amazing ! Drink menu is great! Shakes are a must! Hidden gem next to the JW Marriott Hotel. PLS on Post is actually located inside/outside of the Zeppelin Hotel.

Yelp
We needed a solid burger joint during a recent trip... and we found it at PLS on Post. Burgers were solid: tasty, cooked as asked, and lots of options. We ordered a single serving of fries for the table, which were also solid. You order, you pay, and they bring the food to your table. And while that feels kind of like a fast food joint, it kind of works for PLS on Post. Ambiance was as you'd expect, and that's a good thing. If you're looking for a burger joint, give PLS on Post a try. I think you'll be glad you did.

Yelp
The atmosphere is fun, good music, good vibes, fun decor. The service is friendly and quick. The classic American smash was tasty, love the old sauce and the pickles. Just a classic, comfort burger. The blue cheese smash was good too - the cheese didn't take over and the arugula added a good flavor. The pickled veg were great. The fries were great texture but needed salt. Overall a solid choice.

Yelp
We went here on a whim last minute. It did not disappoint. The burgers and toppings were all high quality and very fresh. The service was fantastic, and the place has a cool vibe and good music. The gentleman who took our order and served us, was very nice. Came to our table and asked where we were traveling from, how our day had been. It's just nice to go places where the staff is so friendly. Added to my SF collection.

Yelp
I came in on a Monday evening with two friends around 8:30PM. Not too many people were in when we first came in but slowly started to fill up as we went on with our meal. we had just come in from another dinner so we were quite full but my friends wanted to try the smash burger. I opted for a cocktail and draft root beer. I ordered the Ginny Hendrix drink and it was surprisingly well balanced and tasty! Unfortunately I couldn't finish because it was strong and it was a Monday night. However, that's a great thing since people may come in for their cocktails. The draft root beer was one of the best I have had in a long time. I loved the theme of the restaurant and hope that it becomes a new meet up spot in the area! Also realized that it is connected to a hotel so there may be some more traffic flow from the hotel guests. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Sometimes all you need is a burger and shake! And the shakes here are the kind that make your eyes light up like a little kid. The burgers are smashed, we tried the American Classic Smash and Korean Smash. They both had very different ingredients, but both were delicious. The American Classic is simple and tastes similar to an animal style In-N-Out burger. The Korean Style burger has kimchi and the toasted bun tastes similar to an everything bagel. Both were very tasty. The staff is very friendly. They make sure the restaurant is clean and comfortable. They give great suggestions and follow up to make sure everything is okay with the meal. When I asked where the restroom was I was even walked there, because it is in the hotel and downstairs. There is also a game room in the hotel. This is not part of the restaurant. It is something that can be rented out, so it may not always be available. I recommend this place for great food, fantastic milkshakes, friendly service, and a fun vibe. This is a great happy hour location after work or a nice place to relax after a day of shopping or touring The City. I will be back!

Yelp
Had an opportunity to visit PLS on Post on a Monday evening with two friends around 8:30pm. We were coming from another dinner but we had heard about this new spot specializing in smash burgers, with a bar, so we wanted to check it out. It wasn't too busy, given that it was Labor Day, so we were able to just grab any seat we wanted after ordering at the counter. The atmosphere of the restaurant is casual, but thoughtfully decorated. While they're selling burgers, cocktails, and milkshakes, there are notes of blue, brown, and green (plants) all around which makes for a nice earth-like ambiance. I especially loved the salt and pepper shakers which looked like Coca Cola bottles. To try one of the smash burgers, I opted for the Koren smash, which consisted of sharp cheddar, korean cucumbers, and gochujang bbq glaze. Objectively speaking, this was a really good smash burger but the one thing that threw me off was that I couldn't taste the Korean inspiration. The cucumbers were there, but the intensity of the flavor seemed low, and we could barely see the glaze. It ultimately tasted like a very good American smash burger, but i do just wish the Korean flavors were amplified. I also tried one of the groovy shakes. The come in at $14-$17, which threw me off at first, but when it came out, I understood why. These shakes are LOADED. The cookies & cream shake consists of a crushed oreo rimmed glass, chocolate chip cookie dough, hot fudge, and housemade whipped cream. Not to mentioned the giant cookie on top! This is a shake that can easily be shared by two people and was seriously delicious.

Yelp
Very nice vibe in here, with good music playing. Food is amazing, we had the American, Mission and Blue Cheese burgers and they were all outstanding.

A B.

Yelp
Nothing wrong with the upbeat ambience and the friendly and efficient staff! Happy Hour food & drink pricing is decent value, especially considering generous serving sizes. But both burger patty and fries came extremely salty, and I had hoped for a more interesting/flavourful experience from a blue cheese burger. Too many dead calories and too much salt for me...
google avatar

Hector A.

Yelp
Great food and ambiance. Went in not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised
google avatar

Yelp
You have to try this place. The food was fresh and delicious. We got the korean style smash and the mission smash and the flavors of both were incredible. The portions are super filling too. The staff was kind and friendly. If you want a quick bite and a good experience then check this place out.

Natalie U.

Yelp
Happy Hour M-F 4:00 - 6:30 PM Serving $5 specialty cocktail, $6 craft beer, $6 sangria, $2 off all food items, $3 off all shakes.
google avatar

Shiroy A.

Yelp
Got the classic smash burger and it lived up to the hype. Friendly service and good music.
google avatar

Yelp
honestly wasn't a fan of milkshakes until I tried their choco-nut milkshake! also really love their chips and guacamole. super friendly staff and love the intimate atmosphere.
google avatar

Merra K.

Yelp
So maybe this isn't the best place to buy take out from. I won't knock the burger cos I don't feel like it is a good representation. The fries were still good even in delivery. The burger style wasn't as smashed as I normally like. Again maybe I just need to try it again given all the other great reviews.

Yelp
We had a busy all day excursion touring San Francisco and by evening needed some downtime. The ambiance of PLS was so chilled and relaxing. Love the classic rock and roll music! Food was delicious offering a variety of hamburgers including choices for non meat eaters. Nice choice of shakes, wines and beers. The service was great! Occasionally checking in on us if we needed anything. Highly recommend Peace, Love and Soul!

Yelp
Great burgers. We stay at the Donatello frequently and when we do, we always go ti PLS.

Yelp
Came in here on a busy Saturday night to order takeout. The gentleman at the counter was so nice and the food came out fast. I got my mom the blue cheese burger and fries and she loved it!!!
google avatar

Cody H.

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday night and it was definitely a slow night. The entire time I was in the restaurant I was the only person there. The food service was fast. I ordered a milkshake and a burger and it was delicious.

Jim W.

Yelp
Fantastic burger- nice ambiance and the food came out quickly. There was a short wait in line at the counter and the gentleman taking orders also appeared to be the bartender, so he was a bit busy. They might benefit from an app or online ordering system, but not really a big deal. If I'm craving a burger and I'm in the area, I'd definitely go back.
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
Good burger, good shake, friendly bartender, cozy bar space. I would go back. Would return

Yelp
Got the Classic American Smash and the Cookies & Cream Milkshake and WOW. Amazing patty and even better milkshake. Highly highly recommend. Vibes are great too.

Carter M.

Yelp
I've had a few burgers here, but do yourself a favor and get the kimchi burger. Then come back here and thank me for the great direction

Evan W.

Yelp
Ordered the classic smash burger, shoestring fries, and Oreo shake. It's the most expensive shake I've had and it is pretty to look at. Oreo filling on the outside of the rim. Tall mountain of whipped cream which also took the first 2" of the glass. Ball of cookie dough on the bottom. Decorated with an Oreo and chocolate chip cookie which tasted like a generic grocery store cookie. Fries came out lukewarm. Paper menu said shoestring fries. Wall menu just said fries. What came out looked like regular fries, not the thin crispy fries as advertised. They said they only serve one type of fries. They made me a new batch which came out hot, but they forgot to salt it. Still nothing special. Burger had a nice brioche bun. Caramelized onions, raw onions, tomatoes, lettuce. Sauce. Took two bites and the whole burger fell apart so I used a knife and fork. Patty looked like an in n out patty, not a proper smash burger. Underseasoned. The shake cost more than the burger. $40 for everything. Menu is inconsistent and food doesn't match menu descriptions. Totally disappointed. Would not go back.

Tamara L.

Yelp
Great Staff!! so so helpful and friendly! amazing food. Recommend milk shakes! We enjoyed our experienc. thanks PLSon the post

Yelp
Stale bun pretty below average burger, good fries it's in the hotel not worth a stop.

heather g.

Yelp
Burger was just average. The bun was a sweet brioche type and not my favorites the fries were ok but just an average experience
google avatar

Jocelyn R.

Yelp
Phenommmm burger And omg get the Oreo shake. Really good. Like ridiculously good. the fries were also cooked perfectly. New restaurant, definitely worth trying.

Yelp
Was looking for a solid burger at the end of a long day and PLS on Post did not disappoint. Portions are size able and the ambiance is casual.

Katie G.

Yelp
I was staying at the Hotel Zeppelin and didn't want to fret out for dinner and decided to try out PLS on Post. Delightfully surprised on the high quality of burger - delicious! Milkshake was the top!

Rafael V.

Yelp
The interior design of the place is nice. The Burger was awesome and the shake lady named Natalie was the sweetest. I will absolutely be back !

Jesse C.

Yelp
Great food, beer, and really unique milkshakes! The burger was super well done, tasted really good, lots of craft beers to select from, and they offer a wide range of interesting milkshakes (spiked if you like). The atmosphere is really nice, with lots of classic rock music. Staff was super polite and really served our needs.
google avatar

Samir G.

Yelp
Service was very slow at first during ordering however after seated food was brought out very swift. Staff was very pleasant and my spouse and I were very satisfied with our order. (Classic American smash burger x2) and funfetti shake. The restaurant also had very soft and sweet aurora!

Heather B.

Yelp
Amazing food! Burgers and milkshakes were delightful. Service was phenomenal. They are so nice!
