Brown Sugar Kitchen Opens for Lunch and Dinner Pop-Ups | Eater SF

"Daniel Patterson’s Uptown Oakland restaurant Plum Bar is opening its doors to a summer culinary pop-up series, beginning with a preview of chef Keith Corbin’s take on California soul food; the menu—featuring items like grilled shrimp and grits with pickled okra and oxtails and rice—will be available nightly through early July, Tuesday through Thursday at 2216 Broadway, Oakland, and will change after that." - Ellen Fort

This place could have potential, but unfortunately it’s very close to the freeway, which feels a little sketchy. The bigger issue is the owner—he’s overly involved in the worst way. The second he sees you, he sizes you up, stares you down, and judges you. It’s extremely off-putting and disappointing, especially since Salt Lake really needs new, welcoming spots. Instead, this one is overshadowed by an owner who comes across as fake and judgmental (even down to the plastic necklace he flaunts). Really sad to see. He was not it.

Had a Urine odor and the drinks were not good. Service was pleasant enough and music was ok. Great prices for drinks and other customers were friendly and kind

I went to Plum Bar for the first time last night & watched Sherri Brown perform. She and her background singers have wonderful voices & I knew the words to every song they sang. I had a great time & will be back.

Niko was amazing and the tequila drink she made for me and lemon drops for my friend were great too! They need a dj on Tuesdays and hookah

Plum is my absolute favorite lounge. The live music is awesome, you'll definitely see a familiar face, the drinks are good. I really miss the kitchen. They used to have good food. If you like wings, there's usually a wing truck out front. If you don't like being in smaller small venues, no worries they have seating outside.
