"Fine dining fans know Plumed Horse for its sleek, sophisticated approach to contemporary California cuisine, with dishes that harmoniously balance meat or fish with seasonal vegetables grown on the restaurant’s local farm. Since 2009, the Plumed Horse has received a Michelin star each year. The restaurant’s three-story wine cellar houses 1,800 selections and more than 20,000 bottles. Chef Peter Armellino created the black pepper and Parmesan souffle — with uni and Dungeness crab fondue — 15 years ago and it remains a staple on the menu today." - Octavio Pena, Cathy Park

"There has been a Plumed Horse in this spot since 1952, though this decade-old iteration is by far the best. The décor exudes warmth, and the setting is elegant, yet comfortable. This inventive kitchen turns out upscale modern cooking. Duck consommé, poured tableside and enhanced with meaty mushrooms and a bright English pea flan, is as impressive to the eye as it is to the palate, while locally sourced abalone is finished with XO sauce for a pop of flavor. The decadent black pepper- and parmesan-soufflé with an uni petal is of the dive-right-in variety.Almond cake with cocoa-nib mousse and orange foam is decadent, but wait for the rows of chocolates from Chocolaterie by Angelica, wheeled over in a glass-domed cart." - Michelin Inspector

Enjoyed a delightful experience at the Plumed Horse. 🐎 after trying the dishes, we have a feeling they specialize in seafood/fish. Our server Emilio was very pleasant and professional. We had the 4 course meal that was ~$124 per person. The appetizer was delightful containing nuts and seafood. They served us house bread and butter that was quite hot. The food was enjoyable and everything was delicious. They even gave an extra apple jelly and cream puff at the end. I find it odd patrons are being charged $9 for water, and I don’t remember any mention of this on the menus. The 22/23 service charge seems kind of hefty, though this is mentioned on the menu. Parking in the area is probably harder in the daytime, we went at 7pm and found a spot nearby on the street. There’s also valet parking if you desire to use that.

Been here a couple of time but my most recent was celebrating my birthday at The Plumed Horse, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is both elegant and refined making it the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The lighting and decor are sophisticated and warm. Service was exceptional. The food is nothing short of extraordinary. Every course was a masterpiece - beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and perfectly paired with wines recommended by the knowledgeable sommelier. The tasting menu was an absolute highlight, offering a delightful variety of innovative dishes that left us both amazed and satisfied. Each bite felt like a new culinary adventure, and the attention to detail was impeccable

We went here to celebrate and it was an exquisite experience from beginning to end. I highly recommend coming here if you've got something special to celebrate and enjoy. The four course meal left me very full and very satisfied. The granny smith dessert was divine and I would order it again in a heartbeat. I found the pork more enjoyable than the ribeye, but that could just be me. The way the beans blended with the savory meat was awesome. The house version of an old fashioned was very drinkable and I probably shouldn't have ordered so many.

The food was served with careful presentation. Some dishes had complex flavors, which I truly loved. The staffs made my day extra special. The place was cozy, creating a relaxed vibe where you can simply enjoy your food and wine.

Google
Very disappointed food and service. Our family has been coming to the restaurant for over 10 years. We've always appreciated the great food, warm atmosphere, and attentive service. This time, though, the experience didn't quite live up to what we've come to expect. The fish and abalone were both quite bland, and the dessert was dry and lacked flavor. On top of that, service felt a bit off -- a number of us didn't finish our dishes, but no one checked in or asked if anything was wrong. We also emailed the restaurant to share our feedback but no response. Would expect at least a follow up or acknowledgment.

Google
We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner here featuring a set menu with wine pairings. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and delicious. The service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was perfect—inviting and cozy, with just the right level of privacy to enjoy our conversation without feeling intrusive to others. It was a delightful experience overall!

Beyond the Michelin-starred restaurants, what truly amazed me was this restaurant's wine cellar. Stepping into the first level was already breathtaking, but seeing the layers upon layers of wine racks beneath the transparent glass floor left me in awe.

Had an amazing dining experience at this amazing restaurant for our anniversary. Great service and exquisite food! Love the set, omakase type, menu so you get to taste a wide variety of food. Everything was perfect, from the service to plating to tasting. We also go complimentary champagne for our celebration. 🥂

Yelp
The service was amazing. The dining room did feel a little more casual than your typical fine dining restaurant but we liked it. Everyone was attentive and our waters were always filled. We opted for the tasting menu. Had a couple spiritless cocktails and enjoyed each course as they arrived. It was a fun dinner, ending with a surprise sparkling cider toast to celebrate. We'd like to return and bring out of town guests to share the experience.

Yelp
Service was good and was what was expected for a Michelin start restaurant. Classy ambience for a celebration, with white tablecloths and elegant decor. Food was OK. The fillet of beef was cold and a bit chewy. Mushroom tart was similarly hard and cold, although the mushrooms were flavored nicely. Star of the night was the dessert, which was a light, fruit flavored creamy panna cotta. The meal overall left me wanting more food, and was not very satisfying. Would probably not go back to this place, especially given the price point.

Yelp
Wow this is definitely an experience. We arrived early so we could spend some time in the bar. Cocktails were delicious. The bar and dining room are elegant and beautifully set. Service was amazing throughout the evening. We had the four course chef menu and added the lobster ravioli. Plus a bottle of wine. The canapés were delicious and a great way to start off. Moved to the Parmesan soufflé with crab. That was the best dish! Then the ravioli. I would give them a miss next time. Not worth the extra supplement price. For mains, I had the beef and my sister had the duck. Both were tasty. We also got the creamed spinach and potato sides to share. In retrospect we didn't need it. Dessert: the crème caramel was divine. The strawberry shortcake was ok. Beautiful but not super tasty. Overall was a bit sticker shocked at the ravioli price on the bill, but minus that is worth the price for the experience.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience at a Michelin starred restaurant - service is superb and exactly what you would expect at a restaurant of this caliber. We opted for the chef's tasting menu, and it certainly did not disappoint! The caviar was fantastic, and the soufflé was one of my favorite courses, pairing wonderfully with the Dungeness crab and uni fondue. There is an upgrade option for the A5 Miyazaki, which we opted for, and our medium rare cuts of meat just melted in our mouth. Cheeky and tasty desserts as well. We celebrated our anniversary here, and received a complimentary glass of champagne to close out our meal. Definitely worth the splurge if you are celebrating something special.

Yelp
Plumed Horse is a lovely, elegant, and special occasion restaurant. It was wonderful in every way! We loved the meal! San Francisco quality in the South Bay for sure! However, what was a bit hard to swallow was their $9 charge for tap water (yes, tap water!) and charging us $64 for what we thought were complimentary glasses of Champagne as we were celebrating our respective milestone birthdays. A bit tacky for a Michelin starred restaurant. Terrific otherwise but if you have a Michelin star it would help to be classy and not tacky...just saying.

Yelp
My return to this Michelin-starred Saratoga restaurant, this time with my parents. It's very much a restaurant for them rather than for me; it is very classic, traditional, with little in terms of surprise. It works wonderfully, and it's exactly what you expect. Service is flawless, though the room could have two fewer tables (at times, servers had to reach over the table). And the food is exactly what you expect - French, with some California influence. Overall excellent... but just what it is.

Yelp
We recently celebrated my wife's birthday at The Plumed Horse in Saratoga, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Since it was a Tuesday evening, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, but that only added to the intimate and welcoming ambience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly and professional, seating us promptly and ensuring we felt at ease. We opted for the 4-course tasting menu, and every dish exceeded our expectations. From the very first bite of their freshly baked bread, we knew we were in for a treat. Each course that followed was meticulously prepared and delicious, showcasing the chef's creativity and attention to detail. To elevate the evening further, we decided to indulge in the caviar tasting, which turned out to be an excellent addition. The luxurious flavors and perfect pairings added a special touch to an already exquisite meal. Overall, the evening was a wonderful celebration, made all the more special by the warm atmosphere, impeccable service, and unforgettable cuisine. The Plumed Horse provided an unforgettable dining experience, and we can't wait to return!

Yelp
Came to celebrate a big birthday for a family member. Late reservation at 8:30pm but we got seated early around 8:10pm. We waited for a while for anyone to come and offer water or go over the menu. I figured it was because we were early than our reservation. There was some confusion with who was going to take our order and who would go over the process for the 4 course prix fix. It was fine but a little awkward. Once Alex got involved, everything in terms of service got much better! The ambiance is lovely and we liked the music in the background which wasn't silence or too quiet. It made it feel very relaxed than other equally michelin'd places. Relaxed yet quiet lux. The food was amazingly good. Creative, delicious, perfectly prepared and gorgeously plated. The pork chop stood out as the sauce served with it was savory, comforting and memorable. The parmesan and black pepper souffle was everything I had hoped it was. I will definitely go back again for the beautifully prepared canapes (beef carpaccio puff was crave-worthy,) the side dishes and the breads and butters, which were absolutely dreamy, the souffle, and the outstanding Paris Brest dessert. The creme caramel was just ok. Would also want to see how the menu will change each season to time our return. 100% worth the splurge on expensive wines and port (4-figure price tag for 3.) Oh and I loved that they had awesome NA options for our birthday guy- a NOgroni (NA Negroni) was excellent and a witty surprise!

Yelp
Exceeded expectations! Good value for a Michelin star establishment. We brought kids which they were able to accommodate with some lovely pasta. Service was top notch and very friendly. Only thing that could be better would be slighter faster coursing. Also staff could have anticipated that the kids would want some of the dessert and brought utensils for them. That said they were really nice about a birthday we were celebrating and made it extra special. The soufflé appetizer and pasta course were perfectly executed. Would get again. The entrees were perfectly sized -- not tiny but not large either. Duck was okay and didn't at all have a connection to Peking duck. The pork chop and beef entreees were the best. Fish may have been a tad salty. Outdoor dining was nice. Few gnats but otherwise great set up. The inside was very stylish and upscale. Would come back for another meal. The food itself was tasty, not just pretty, and service made it very special.

Yelp
First time been here to celebrate my birthday, be honest it's not that surprise or amazing compared with my other Michelin star restaurants experience. First it's very bad experience was their valet parking , I've been so many fancy restaurant dinner, as we know nowadays lots of people use tesla, I'm wondering if customer didn't bring the key card, how dose the valet parking works? For my experience, if customer didn't bring the key card, they can give the cell phone to do valet parking; however this restaurant the guy who served valet parking immediately refused. Next maybe it's my personal experience I don't like their atmosphere too noisy it's my first time dinner in this noisy place. I prefer quiet and not too crowd place enjoy my dinner. Last the food is not too surprise for me.

Yelp
A true dining experience in the most romantic setting! Dining indoor or outdoor is an option, the bar lounge provides more intimate dining. The staff is quite attentive and provides you the perfect attention and service. Don't pass on the caviar service, it's a fav and delicious!

Yelp
Where do I begin?! My friend and I had a fantastic experience at Plumed Horse thanks to the wonderful staff, amazing food, and overall excellent service. I've been wanting to try Plumed Horse for quite some time. I honestly would've eaten there by myself, but they require a 2-person minimum to reserve a table. I made a reservation for 5pm on a Saturday. My friend, who was coming all the way from Walnut Creek, was going to be 25 minutes late. I was concerned that we'd have to relinquish our table, but the hostess assured me that we would not lose our table (FYI you have a 3-hour limit on tables). I decided to hang out at the bar/lounge area until she arrived. When my friend arrived we were escorted to our table in the main dining area, which was stunning. Loved the wine tunnel with the glass floor that we got to tour after dinner. The bartenders were so fun and personable. Waiting for my friend went by really fast because of their company. What's cool is that the specialty cocktails on their menu were "home-grown" and crafted by their very own. It was a treat getting to know the inspirations behind the cocktails. I enjoyed all the cocktails I tried. Speaking of fun, our sommeliers, Antonio and Manny, really made the atmosphere jovial during our dinner. I had initially signed us up for the 4-star course, but we decided to go for the tasting menu. Everything on the menu was divine, but there were certainly a few dishes that stood out to me: 2nd course (Plumed Horse Reserve Caviar), 4th course (Black Pepper and Parmesan Souffle), 5th course (Alaskan Halibut) and 6th course (Liberty Farms Duck).

Dan V.

Yelp
Solid service, food and wine selection. Canapés were good, smoked salmon and tuna were okay but the steak tartare briquettes and cheddar cup thingy were the amazing. Bread and butter in between courses made in house, fluffy and flavorful. Venison tartare was the best tartare I've ever had. Tender, meaty, and the spices and beets enhanced it's flavor. Uni crab fondue was good not too salty. Duck breast perfect temp but crispiness on the skin was inconsistent. I don't generally like quinoa but it was creamy and complimented the duck well. Pork chop katsu was BIG and very filling. Crispy, great sauce and the bitterness from the cabbage paired well. Desserts were good, strawberry shortcake not too sweet. The Paris brest was good but I thought the dark chocolate would be more bitter. It's a giant cream sandwich so unless you're not full by the end of the entree, I'd highly recommend splitting this with someone.

Yelp
Had a wonderful birthday dinner here last night. We got the 4 course prix fixe, which was reasonably priced at $128pp. We started with the seasonal canapés, which included smoked salmon, ahi tuna and cucumber, beef tartare, and a truffle croquette. We then got the 2nd course, which included a black pepper and Parmesan soufflé with uni and crab fondue, and venison tartare. The fondue was excellent and one of the highlights of the meal. For the main course I got the duck and my husband got the beef. Both were very tender and cooked perfectly. Finally, for the dessert the strawberry straw cake was very light and refreshing. The chocolate tart was a bit on the heavy side. They brought out some celebratory champagne at the end which was a nice touch. Great ambiance and service throughout the night.

Yelp
We wanted to do something special to celebrate the graduation of my stepson and his girlfriend, and what a special evening it was! I booked a couple of months in advance for a Sunday evening and we had no trouble parking nearby. The decor is modern, sophisticated, and inviting. The atmosphere feels luxurious but not pretentious. The light figures in the main dining room are shaped like what those in my party agreed looked like jellyfish, casting a warm light that subtly changes colors as you dine. The service was excellent from beginning to end. Before seating us at our table, they showed us the wine cellar and took a variety of photos of our group. The staff was friendly and approachable and our exchanges added to the experience. We all had the eight course tasting menu with the wagyu upgrade. Two members of our party do not eat seafood, which features prominently on the tasting menu. Refreshingly, the staff happily accommodated our dietary restrictions. For me, the black pepper and parmesan souffle with crab and uni fondue was the star of the show. The seafood fondue and souffle pairing is well balanced, flavorful, and comforting. I didn't want it to end, proclaiming while eating it that I could have four more. The wagyu with potato dish came in a very close second and was well worth the upcharge, in my opinion. Surprisingly, one of the dishes that I was the least enthusiastic about trying turned out to be one of my favorites - the white asparagus gazpacho with striped bass. Before the dessert course, the coconut sorbet with passion fruit curd dish was divine. I'm already looking for excuses to come back. Bon appetit!

Yelp
Celebrated my bf's early birthday here last night and everything about it was exceptional. From the moment we entered, sat down, and exited, the staff and service was above and beyond. Everyone who came and helped w/ service wished my bf a happy birthday along w/ a personal message, which I thought was extremely thoughtful and a nice gesture to welcoming us in. I booked it via OpenTable w/ a few request and they definitely delivered on that part. For appetizers, we got the New Zealand Venison Tartare, Black Pepper & Parmesan Soufflé, and Artichoke Cappelletti. I thought that the venison tartare was a little too salty, but other than that, the appetizers were ok. Not the best, but certainly isn't the worst. Plating & presentation was great. Staff were very attentive to the details and we never had to flag anyone down. They changed utensils after every meal and ensured that we were never short of anything while we were waiting for our next course. For entrees, my bf got the Flannery Farms Prime Striploin and I got the 38 North Farms Duck Breast. Both were absolutely delicious. Visually it looks stunning and they nailed the flavor. My duck was seared flawlessly w/ just a bit of crunch and I tried the striploin and that was on-point. If I HAD to choose, I would prefer the duck but honestly, I can't. Dessert wise, I was so disappointed. We couldn't decide between the Paris Brest and Strawberry Shortcake but ended up w/ the Paris Brest and needless to say, looks pretty but tasted average. It took over 20 minutes to get the dessert and when it came out, it was meh. It came out at room temperature, not hot/ cold, and didn't even taste like anything. It was just so bland and ehhh, I just don't really know. Honestly, the pastry tasted like it has been sitting outside for a while, like a couple of days old and the only thing that was nice about it was the plating. It tasted light and airy and thank goodness it wasn't sweet otherwise, I would've hated it. Aside from that, everything else was great. IMO and based on my experience, this is by far the best Michelin star restaurant in the Bay Area (esp. compared to Protege and Selby's) and slightly better than Adega. It's tied w/ some Michelin restaurants in Europe, but can't say it's better than all of them (although that's TBD). All in all, thank you to all the wonderful staff that served us last night and made our night extra special!

Leon W.

Yelp
Really amazing experience overall at an relatively affordable price for a Michelin star restaurant. We got the four course tasting menu, where there were a few selections for each course. The duck and sea bass were really amazing - although we would like to come back to try the other options as well. The service was what you would also expect for a Michelin restaurant with nice and attentive staff. There was also a surprising number of tables, which makes sense given that reservations were not that difficult to make. One thing to keep in mind is that there is an additional charge for the Champaign (around $20-30 per glass, which is quite hefty) if you are heading over for a celebration.

Yelp
DON'T eat the duck! All three of us had food poisoning symptoms after eating here. Called Manager he was in denial. Blamed what we had breakfast or dinner the prior night "as food toxins take 24 hrs to affect one's stomach. " One knows when the projectile vomiting happens few hrs after dinner it was NOT a prior meal 24 hrs ago! Very poor service recovery and questionable food handling. Caution eating here.

Katherine T.

Yelp
This place was super delicious and was a great dinner for a birthday. Everything is plated beautifully and the atmosphere is perfect for special occasions. We got the 4 course set. The canapes were great, the beef tartare was my favorite, and the cheese cracker was my second favorite. The salmon eclair was pretty good as was the tuna tartare but just didn't seem too special or unique. The appetizers were phenomenal. The souffle with crab and uni was sooooo good that even my husband who doesn't eat seafood really enjoyed it. I got the pasta or dumpling thing and that was really good. For the mains, we got the steak and halibut and they were tasty but nothing to write home about. I got some strawberry dessert and he got the flan thing and once again, tasty but nothing extraordinary. They also bring out two breads. The first one was my favorite and it was so satisfying. The second pretzel bread with mustard butter was ok but I'm not a fan of mustard. Overall, this place is very delicious. We left very full. Everything is really good and there were a few outstanding unique items worth coming out of your way for.

Yelp
Total for 2 people w/ three drinks, tax, & included tip was $8xx. We had the chef's tasting menu (8 courses, $225 pp): 1. Canapés were great; in order of preference: (1) beef tartare "briquette" was the perfect tartare bite, loved the fun briquette presentation; (2) smoked salmon eclair was like an elevated smoked salmon bagel, in a good way; (3) d'Affinois tart was super smooth & creamy, the hazelnut crumble texture made it almost dessert-like; & (4) Tuna tartare & cucumber was my least favorite. 2. CAVIAR. Loved the kakiage and balance of sweetness of corn custard & saltiness of caviar. I didn't care for the corn custard texture, though. I wish it was maybe creamier & less of a custard/pudding. The pretzel bread w/ their butter came out here. 3. ABALONE, Toy Box tomato, Persian cucumber, Thai basil. I love raw abalone but this was not raw though, but sliced thin, quickly cooked & chilled to give it a raw quality. My fave thing about raw abalone is the crunchy texture tho. I have no love for veg but all of the vegetables here were delicious. 4. PARMESAN SOUFFLE. I couldn't taste any uni in the uni & crab fondue. I cleaned this out tho because hello, a cheese sauce over a soft cheesy fluff. The staff told us this was a signature dish. It was like an elevated version of something nostalgic. But it's a super rich dish & doubts about getting through the remaining 4 courses sink in, as it is at this pt I think I should've gone for the 4 course menu. 5. ALASKAN HALIBUT. The fish texture was mushy and a little salty (bc pork belly here, maybe) & I wish I ate less of this so I had more room for the final dishes. It was at all bad, but it was my least favorite dish of the evening. I do love morels though. 6. We chose one of each so we could try them both out: LIBERTY FARMS DUCK. I was not into the spinach royale. The salted cherries though, amazing! As was the sauce perigourdine. The duck could've been more tender. Also, a duck empanada thing came separately. The fried dough w/ minced duck meat inside ate a little greasy. JAPANESE A5 MIYAZAKI STRIPLOIN (+$75). Came w/ the same accoutrements as the duck; worked well. 3-oz IIRC. It was well-marbled w/ fat, & because of how much we'd already eaten, I definitely felt the richness of it. Parker house rolls came here. The three breads (pretzel, that duck dough, & Parker house roll) weren't as good as the breads I recently had at Mourad. 7. PEACHES & CREAM. Good but better without the cream, I think. I'm also up to my eyeballs in food at this pt so my judgment might be off. 8. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE. Glad I did not finish the other dessert. The white chocolate shell, the surprise cookie at the bottom, the tartness of the strawberry & lemon verbena... this one killed it w/ textures & flavors. We also got champagne (on the house) & I am thankful that I'm wearing a stretchy dress this evening. All the staff were just great but especially the (floor?) manager. I had a black dress on & shortly after sitting down he offered a black napkin to me to swap out my white napkin so that my black dress would not get linty. That's some attn to detail; I recall this happening only once elsewhere. We ended up getting a fantastic tour of the wine room, kitchen, & chef's table (a private room behind floor to ceiling glass peering into the kitchen), it was a great way to end the night. I think the 4-course menu would've worked better for us, but if you come for the 8-course, wear your Thanksgiving pants.

Jani H.

Yelp
This is nowhere close to the "normal" Michelin One Star restaurants. Worn down interior and medium grade food. The service was great but the level of details in this segment was not.

Yelp
We booked Plumed Horse via open table for the prix fixe menu (chef's winter special) to celebrate a very special occasion. I read the reviews and was prepared on what to expect. This place is definitely formal. My advice to the gents is to where a nice suit and for the ladies to wear semi-formal dress. The hostess greeted us and sat us in the dining room with beautiful decor next to the window, which we absolutely love. The service was impeccable, they constantly filled our cups with water, cleared our tables and utensils, and was very knowledgeable about our dish. The presentation was absolutely beautiful. They would ask if you would like to try champagne and caviar and wine pairing, from the reviews I read that they will charge us for it and that they don't tell you the price which I wish they did; we politely refused as we read the reviews and were prepared that this will happen and we came in knowing what we want to try. One catch, they did ask if you want still or sparkling water, we did ask for still and they charged us for it. Not sure why filtered tap water wasn't offered. The chef's tasting menu is absolutely phenomenal! They did serve us squab as part of the tasting menu, I never had it before and it did taste gamey to me. It is an acquired taste, I ended up giving the squab to my partner. My absolute favorites are: 1. Chef's Seasonal Canapés - The dill smoked salmon was packed with flavor 2. Black Pepper & Parmesan Souffl , Uni & Dungeness Crab Fondue - this dish melts in your mouth. I would go back just for this dish. 3. A5 Wagyu Striploin - I am usually more of a seafood person than a red meat gal, but this dish was absolutely amazing. I never had beef cooked so well before. Highly recommend! 4. Coconut Sorbet - It was very smooth and creamy. I never had a sorbet like this before. I want to go back for it again. At the end they gave us a plate of small bites for dessert (choux, etc.) we took that to go as we were full. We had it with chai the next day and it was absolutely amazing.

Yelp
We went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was excellent. We decided to do the chef's tasting menu and enjoyed every dish that came out with the exception of the black pepper and parmesan soufflé. It was a bit on the salty side. Everything else was absolutely delicious. The sommelier was excellent. He helped us choose a perfect wine. The cocktails are very delicious as well. Service is the only thing I see a need for improvement. It's still not quite refined for a restaurant of this caliber and price point. I feel like they're almost there, but the attention to details need to be ironed out: - wine glass should be refilled as needed during a meal if we bought a bottle of wine. - I thought it was odd they brought out a complimentary celebration champagne at the very end of our meal. I'm use to having it brought out as a welcome in cases where the situation calls for a celebratory drink. It was almost as if the server forgot to bring it out until the very last minute. - servers were not quite attentive as they should be in this type of setting. Overall, I would definitely recommend Plumed Horse and I look forward to coming back again. I just think the service could be refined so that it matches the caliber of the food.

Mich W.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate Father's Day with my family and it was a great experience overall. The ambiance and environment is very clean and welcoming, with comfortable service without being too invasive. The food was phenomenal for the most part, some stand outs being the Parmesan and black pepper soufflé appetizer and the pork chop katsu entree. Portions were surprisingly sooo filling, and they do give 2 complimentary breads throughout the meal that were just as delicious. Will definitely return for a special occasion

Service was nice and everyone was attentive. I feel as if the food and atmosphere was almost manufactured. Perhaps that is the Bay Area vibe. Not much creativity was going on. Food was made well. $18 for still water without telling you is a bit atrocious in my opinion.

Yelp
(Chris Helmsworth voiceover) The vibe is très chic restaurant in Saratoga! Love the valet service. Flowers warmly greeted me. The soirée was underway! Jonathan presented me with the most amazing Pinot. Sooo smooth. Bereft of tannins. The perfect libation for such a gathering. The medley of gourmet vegetables was exquisite. Love the carrots. Perfect arrangement. The tenderloin entrée was superb. Beautiful presentation. Perfectly done. The mandarin mousse dessert was gorgeous and flavorful. Wow! The dinner conversation was lively and lovely in this beautiful setting...of course, we were at The Plumed Horse and I was at the party. Thank you for a splendid evening of fine dining and exhilarating conversation. Would order everything again. Thanks, Flowers & Jonathan! Will be sure to try the soufflé next time, young lady Woohoo!

Yelp
We sat in the bar area at a table in the corner. Nice cozy area with a great view. There are only two tables, 4 and 2, with high top seating. We had the Parker roll, corn tart, ravioli, beef and layer cake. I feel that the beef could have been seared more, but everything was cooked and seasoned nicely and the flavors were spot on. The corn tart was definitely the stand out and was delicious. We had a few cocktails and they were all perfect. The server we had was wonderful, as was the bartender. The Champagne our server brought us was amazing and such a nice gesture. I will return to sit in the main dining room and try the tasting menu.

Yelp
We went there for their Mother's Day brunch and everything was perfect! Even though they lowered their prices for the brunch, they did not lower their standards. Every dish was tasty and special, and they offered a full multi course menu like they normally would for dinner. To make it extra special they offered free champagne for Mother's Day. All the staff were super polite, professional and friendly. They are the ones who truly made this a wonderful day. One thing I've always noticed about this restaurant is they have some great older vintage wines at a great price too. Make sure to take a look at their wine menu! Definitely recommend coming here, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Plumed Horse happened to be the choice for celebrating our anniversary and it was a decision that turned out to be a good one in general. We got ourselves a reservation in there that was slotted for a bit later in the evening and parked a bit away form the restaurant though there were ample spots around on the street to grab hold of. They do have valet parking available as well. Having sorted the parking out we got in there and checked in.We were greeted with a warm, cheerful smile and were taken to our table for the evening. Their ambiance is nothing short of breathtaking. The restaurant's historic building, with its elegant interior, combines modern aesthetics with a touch of old-world charm. The warm lighting, luxurious furnishings, and tasteful artwork create an inviting and upscale atmosphere. The service at Plumed Horse is exceptional. The staff is not only attentive but also exquisitely knowledgeable about the menu. Their professionalism and genuine hospitality make every guest feel like royalty. We had multiple examples of great hosts through and through. Manuel was our host for the evening and kept us smiling and laughing with this words and short stories :). Ericka was a great server and made sure that we had our food come out and served as appropriate. Towards the end (before we exited) we started taking a few pictures inside and around the dining area and Daniel definitely showed us the spots and helped us click a few good ones in there as well. Plumed Horse's menu is a culinary journey that celebrates the finest ingredients and innovative techniques. Each dish is an absolute work of art that tantalizes the senses. The attention to detail in every aspect of the meal, from presentation to flavor, showcases the chef's dedication to excellence. The only gripe that we have and it would remain is that I had specifically informed them about my dietary needs about eating Halal meat as a result of which they made the substitutions (no complaints about that). However the subs that were made did not seem to comply for a place like Plumed Horse. They were pretty ordinary and given that the information was provided way ahead of time , the alternates that was provided could have been much better. From all that came to the table we definitely enjoyed the Porcini Tart, the initial platter that came in with options along with the dark chocolate cake that came towards the end. While Plumed Horse offers an exceptional dining experience, it falls on the higher end of the price spectrum. However, it's a place where you're paying for the quality, creativity, and elegance of the meal and ambiance, making it well worth the occasional splurge for a special occasion. Though if like us, you would need to make a request due to your dietary needs, the end result may not be as impressive. Cheers!!!

Yelp
Came here for the 5 course dinner on Thanksgiving. I'll start by saying this is one of the most expensive meals of my life, but also perhaps the best meal I've ever had. Started w a delicious oyster w/ hints of lime. Moved to a delicious fall salad w persimmon/ maple apple cider vinaigrette. Then without question, the best soup ive ever had in my life--celery root bisque w poached main lobster. Next it was the larger plates. Duck breast with this incredible "spicy onion marmalade" which is seemingly the most delicious sauce I've ever had. Then it was the show stopper--prime filet w tempura maitake shroom w mashed potato's and Swiss chard. This dish, is in the top 3 of the best plates of food I've ever had. You could cut the steak with a normal table knife, and the tempura mushrooms were so crunchy and delicious. Finished it off with a basque cheesecake w/ delicious poached pear. Ending up ordering their Manhattan, and a big cab for the meat courses. Unreal meal, super special food, and incredible service--they were constantly refilling water, bringing the next course, or checking if we wanted more alcohol. They even filled up our wine glass a few times on the house. 10/10

Yelp
From their Chef Tasting Menu the A5 Wagyu NY Strip Loin was delicious! Service was impeccable! Ambience was catered like you are a high socialite & they also have bidet in the restrooms!

Yelp
Service was excellent. Friendly and pleasant maitre'd. Multiple servers were clearly trained to the same standard of service (eg consistent demeanor) however I did mention in reservation and in person that we were celebrating my SOs birthday and they did not do anything special. Restaurants 1/4 of the price do something... Ambiance was fine, though played some soft R&B in the background - I would have preferred silence. Food... was not good. We had the tasting menu for $200 pp. for that we expected delectable and imaginative food. We were disappointed with the the mains in particular which felt rather simple in taste and seemed to be serve just a bit warmer than room temp. Mandatory 20% tip, host made it clear nothing further was expected.

Yelp
This review is months overdue. Can't recall all the items and missed a quite a few photos, but here we go... Food was good, really good. As you'd hope to expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. It's very classical French cuisine here that's served, nothing avant garde. Plumed Horse is a Michelin starred staple restaurant in the Silicon Valley, and it's definitely worth checking out at least once, but it didn't excite me so it'll be just the one visit for me. As a group of 3 , we enjoyed an a la carte dinner with individual entrees and shared appetizers and desserts. Proteins were all cooked perfectly, with minor critiques on few dishes at the time, but we definitely enjoyed everything there. Crab and uni soufflé, albeit their signature dish we believed to be a bit overly hyped. Flavors combinations are classic and make sense, but just another iteration of many other common dishes you'd find in other high end restaurants. Service was wonderful. Waiters and staff were quick with service and very knowledgeable and very personable. Service however was also the biggest highlight of the evening, at least in my opinion. The staff really cared about the dining experience we had and did everything to make us feel welcomed.

Yelp
I've died and gone to heaven...if you want to impress someone special or even yourself, you need to bookmark The Plumed Horse in Saratoga! Go hungry and expect to spend a lot, but it's worth every penny. This place takes the term "fine dining" to a whole new level and goes above and beyond to make sure you're enjoying every minute of your time here. They take dietary restrictions very seriously so don't even worry if you think you won't be able to eat certain things on the menu. Don't forget to check out their impressive wine cellar before you leave! Yelp
anniversary dinner !! this was the boujee-est dining experience i've ever had. the service was especially top-notch (other than one of the servers who kept making weird comments about money. they also really try to sell u lol) and we even coat checked our leftover bread while we ate the rest of our courses LOL. the dishes were unique and delicious, and i loved the variety of flavors and ingredients - truly demonstrated the "new american" cuisine. definitely deserving of its michelin star! tasting menu: - halibut crudo, nori crisp + smoked salmon eclair + beef tartare "briquette" + cheese & crackers - chilled monterey abalone w/ grapefruit, Brokaw avocado, Fennel - black pepper & parmesan soufflé w/ uni & blue crab fondue - matsutake velouté w/ crispy sweetbreads, pine nut pureé, puffed rice - california squab w/ celery root girella, brown-butter apple, horseradish soubise - flannery prime beef striploin w/ parsley root, braised short rib ragout, sauce bordelaise - winter citrus chiffon cake, black tea, chantilly cream - warm autumn brioche w/ pepita praline, cardamom, pumpkin - drinks: 2014 henriet bezin premier cru brut, 2019 flanagan cabernet, bennet valley

Yelp
We stopped by for drinks and dessert and were excited to try their espresso martini, which we often enjoy at various spots. While it didn't quite meet our expectations, we were pleased with the flan and strawberry shortcake we ordered. The dessert was delicious and made our visit worthwhile. Thank you for the experience--we look forward to trying more of your offerings in the future!

Yelp
This was my first experience of fine dining like this. The ambiance of the Plumed Horse was great! (Sorry I forgot everyone's name who helped us but you know who you are haha). Never been to a establishment that changes cutlery every dish, pours your wine and gives description of the food you will eat and beverages you will drink while maintaining great smiles and great service. I've been working in retail and customer service with pervious and current career, and I can for sure say the men and women here did not disappoint at all. I never felt like I was just spending money, it was more of a family/comfortable experience that I would love to do again. I could go into details about everything we experienced, but I took a bunch of pictures and that should do the trick of explaining.I Would definitely like to thank Andrew and Chiara for the invite! I would of never came here or known about the Plumed Horse without them. Jeffery the wine Expert/Guru for his great amount of knowledge he had of the wines, and not looking at me like I was stupid for some questions and clarifications questions I had , Erica and Daniele for the GREAT service they provided. I can't stress how satisfied we were, but you will not be disappointed for dining here! Also they surprised me with a birthday celebration . The pictures are in the order we received the dishes and whats on the menu.

Yelp
An institution of the South Bay, Plumed Horse lived up to its reputation and is very deserving of its Michelin star. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and loved every single dish. Each was beautifully prepared and full of wonderful flavor. The service was also spot on. Our menu consisted of: 1) Country Paté, Moutard Violette 2) Smoked Salmon Eclair 3) Beef Tartare "Briquette" 4) Cheese & Crackers 5) Chilled Monterey Abalone - grapefruit, Brokaw avocado, Fennel 6) BLACK PEPPER & PARMESAN SOUFFLÉ - uni & local rock crab fondue 7) WILD MUSHROOM TART - melted leeks, Chanterelles, Gruyère 8) CALIFORNIA SQUAB - celery root girella, brown-butter apple, horseradish soubise 9) FLANNERY PRIME BEEF STRIPLOIN - parsley root, braised short rib ragout, Sauce Bordelaise 10) Coconut Sorbet - passion fruit curd, vanilla crumble 11) MARSCAPONE MOUSSE - kishu mandarin, olive oil

Yelp
What a fantastic evening! As the automated doors welcomes you into the restaurant, you are greeted with a stunning wall of beautiful floral arrangement. The wonderful ambiance continues with the changing modern ethereal lights in the dining room. You cannot miss the alluring bar area and stop to think, I have to return for a drink or a more casual meal another time. We are immediately greeted by one of their experience team members, Manny. He gives us a brief history of Plumed Horse, explains the tasting menu and welcomes us with a glass of champagne. He also allows us to take photos in their famous wine room which is simply delightful for first-time diners. He inquires about any allergies, and also tempts us with their white truffle and caviar specialities. We started off our dining experience with four amazing amuse-bouche: country pate, smoked salmon eclair, beef tartare "briquette" and cheese crackers. All were packed with wonderful flavors into small packages. Our favorite was the beef tartare "briquette." Our first course was the chilled Monterey abalaone with grapefruit, avocado and fennel paired with a refreshing riesling from Germany. Second course was a black pepper and parmesan souffle with an uni and local rock crab fondue paired with a subtle sancerre from France. (I have a crab allergy, so my course was prepared without crab and it was excellent as is). Third course was a wild mushroom tart with melted leeks, gruyere and leeks paired with a soft chablis from France. Fourth course was a California squab paired with a fruit forward California pinot noir. The portions seemed small, but there was plenty!! Fifth course was the prime beef striploin with parsley root, braised short rib ragout and bordelaise sauce paired with a bold Napa Valley cabernet. Dessert courses included coconut sorbet with passion fruit cure, vanilla crumble and marscapone mousse with kishu mandarin and olive oil cake paired a glass of Uroulat Jurancon and a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne. Our dining adventure exceeded our expectations. Kudos to Chef/Owner Peter Amelino and his excellent team. Manny, Alex and Antonio provided a memorable and outstanding dinner for us. Thank you! The restaurant is located in the beautiful downtown Saratoga. There is valet parking available, but also plenty of street parking.

Yelp
Service is top notch. Our server is very attentive. Beautiful restaurant. Affordable 4 course tasting menu + caviar . The filet mignon i got is 5-6/10, not to my liking. They have valet parking, otherwise there's a public parking 100 meters behind the restaurant a block away.

Chris S.

Yelp
Beautiful dining room, delicious food, but a bit pricey imo. The thing that stood out to me here was the squab, but the souffle was also quite outstanding. I really enjoyed the dessert sequence as well, but some of the chocolates could've probably destroyed my teeth if I wasn't brushing regularly lol The service is friendly and on-point, but I recall one point in the dinner when the restaurant started filling up, the pacing starting to slow down a bit. Nothing unreasonable though.

Yelp
We made reservations for a romantic dinner in Los Altos, came early and parked nearby. There are a few lots and some street parking, but we had to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautiful, we had a great table near the wine room and our server was extremely attentive! The tasting menu was extensive with good variety, and we were both quite full afterwards. After our meal, the server offered to take photos of us in the glass wine room, too. Overall, would recommend for a fancy, romantic dinner -- the ambiance and service is great, and food is as you would expect.

Yelp
Probably 4+. Everything was delicious. The uni/lobster soufflé was very nice. The flavor was really great. The texture was not quite as light and airy as I imagined. But overall, great concept. The ribeye "eye" was perfectly cooked and delicious. Very tender and great flavor. We sampled all the desserts, which were all very good. I especially liked the strawberry shortcake. The service and private room was more special. Overall, very good dinner.

Yelp
WOW, I mean WOW!!. On our last two visits ,we were lucky enough to get the Chef's table! Pure luck, just had regular reservations and the team gave us the Chef's table both times. If you are following, please also keep in mind that we just got back from a 33 day cruise and have been "fine" dining nightly... Quality/Quantity - Overall the meal was good, today 4 stars, (our prior visit, the food was 5 stars). Here is some feedback for today's visit: Starter - My daughter loved this. I thought this was good, but she really really loved it! Halibut Crudo - Good, but I thought the ratio of halibut with radish was off a little, I would have preferred more halibut. Black Pepper & Parmesan Souffle - Uni & Dungeness Crab Fondue. This was a wow. At first I expected it to not be anything special since I have been eating this for dessert every other day, see Princess Cruise Yelp. But after the 3rd bite, I said wow. My daughter enjoyed the sauce so much that she started drinking it as if it was a soup. Davenport Abalone - Again, I guess I am being greedy, but I felt the abalone could have been larger. But at least this was well proportioned. Complemented with a 2020 Saouma "Inopia" Southern Rhone, France Bacon Wrapped Quail - Done well, wrapped tight. This was very hearty, with good flavors. Complemented with a Beaujolais. Brentwood corn & Porcini Tart - Not my personal preference, but it was good. Complimented with a 2020 Torbreck Grenache, Barossa Valley, Australia Roast Venison - Highlight of the meal, the entree. And they do not have venison often, so always get it when offered. Buttermilk Ice Cream - A little disappointing. My ice cream was melted and soft and it was only 1 scoop and was drowned in sauce. Frog Hollow Farm Cherries - Good, the cherries could have been more pronounced. Dark Chocolate Cake with Smith Wood house 20 year old Tawny Port, Portugal Additional Desserts - A tray of baked goods, see picture. Always a favorite of ours. Breads - Wow, I think I just like bread too much. Both the picture perfect muffin bread and pretzel roll were so good! Wine pairing - 8 wine pairings, plus a complimentary glass of champagne. Very generous pours, so generous that I knew I was not going to be able to drive when we left! Atmosphere - Surprisingly almost no customers today. Approximately 6 tables, including outside and bar/lounge dining. The team says Sunday is their slowest day. In the past we had to make reservations months in advance. Indoor or outdoor dining. Weather permitting, 3 outdoor options. Inside general dining, lounge dining, bar dining, and our favorite the Chef's table! Simple, cool elegant decor. Even the sinks in the bathrooms are splashless, see picture. Some historic framed menus from their past. 2 wine cellars that you need to visit. Valet parking for $15, but it was not needed tonight as there was plenty of free street parking. Oh, they are trained to upsell, just and FYI. Last visit we ended up buying champagne for the table, LOL. Service - 6 stars, not sure if due to it being so slow today, but almost every employee helped us. Were they extremely bored or is this the normal amazing service? Service in the past has always been good, but I am not used to 6+ people waiting on us. Price - $1500, expect to pay for quality and service. My daughter would not let me pay! What a treat, so proud. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1975 with all your Michelin stars, we have been a long term customer. Also thank you for all your previous remodels and keeping up with the times.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary here (yes it's been quite some time since I came here..). I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and service was great We got the chefs tasting menu (circa 2018) To start off, we had a smoked salmon cannoli as the amouse bouche chilled avocado soup prawn with parma ham and xo sherry vinegar hawaiian big tuna with shishitto pepper and squash seared foie gras squab breast with porcini and potato 50 day aged rib eye dessert: pistachio financier and buffalo milk mozzerella blueberry mouse jewels, granola and berries my favorites would have to be the foie gras and the squab. the squab was meaty and tender, had a nice bite to it. Foie gras never disappoints me, and the amount was just enough where it was not overwhelming with the other dishes. the last two dessert dishes wowed me with their attention to detail and plating. they were gorgeous This left me feeling stuffed, I almost couldn't finish the desserts! we were also brought the chocolate cart, and we picked a few out to take home. and of course we couldn't leave without taking a picture of their iconic wine room. They asked if we would like to see and offered to take a picture of us in there, lol so many people must ask hahah

Yelp
This was my very first Michelin star experience and I used to think that stars were overrated until I truly experienced it. I sat out on their patio on a warm summer day to celebrate a special occasion. The service was fantastic and on another level, and I just felt like royalty. Waiters pulling out chairs and opening doors for you, carefully plating the finishing touches of dishes...this was so different from other fancy restaurants with overpriced and overhyped food. I tried their tasting menu and everything was so delicious. My personal favorite dish was the uni soufflé; even though I normally don't like seafood, the soufflé was so creamy but delicious that I finished mine. There was also enough food on the tasting menu to fill me up, with lots of flavors and textures in the food that left me satisfied and happy at the end of the meal. After dessert, they ended with some house-made chocolates that were also delicious. Overall, I felt that their Michelin star was well deserved, and I was blown away by the quality of the food and service here.

Jonathan T.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant because of its Michelin star and opted for the prix fixe menu. Upon being seated, they poured champagne, giving the impression it was a complimentary welcome drink. However, we were later charged $33 per person for it, which felt misleading and unprofessional--bordering on a scam. Unfortunately, the food did not justify the price either. I plan to contact the Michelin Guide to file a formal complaint.

Yelp
I checked and asked other friends who have been there, and pretty sure we got treated discriminately by not been offered complimentary chocolate plates and desert/ drinks (as in my picture one and two), ruined our 5 year anniversary . (They even offer free wine when someone's daughter start the 4th grade school, they also ordered short menu like us )

Jason F.

Yelp
What an incredible dining experience! 5 Star service the entire meal. The talented Chef and his team created an 8 course dinner that was delicious to the last bite. Each plate offered was rich in flavor and the presentation was impressive. Wine pairing for each course was a delight. Ambience was very relaxing and cozy. The sommelier was phenomenal with his recommendations and knowledge of the wine, champagne and spirits. We will most definitely come back to visit Plumed Horse!
