Ice cream cakes and ice cream pies are also available." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

They've been here in the same location since 1937, and I've only been 3 times in my life . Prices and service were impeccable! Large cup of ice cream is only $6...

Google
There was a line but it moves quickly. Tough to find parking but other than that a quite ice cream spot with lots of tasty options for the whole family. We will be back!

My very favorite top #1 ice cream. Also enjoy their bakery treats. Been coming here since my girls were young who now are in their 40's and 50's. My girls also still like to come here with their family for treat. I moved further away several years ago, but always stop here when in the area no matter the weather just as I did other day when it was in single digits. I was not alone, there were several die hards that were there. I usually get large double scoop waffle cone along with muffins and mini bakery loaves. Can't beat their ice cream. It is the very BEST! Tuesday is senior discount day.

Google
Cute, vintage, ice cream shop and store. Plenty of available flavors for any palate. Workers were efficient and kind. Place had a long line and they were fast. Was very happy the cone waffle came in a plastic carrier. Ice cream was tasty. Can tell why everyone comes here

Google
I have been coming to get ice cream here since I was a kid and so little has changed. So many ice cream flavors to choose from. I have found a couple times you will get a bit of freezer flavor. As a kid I would always order bubble gum. I love their rotating flavors/specials. St Patrick’s day has some awesome offerings. I ordered pralines and cream this time, so much caramel.. it’s perfect!

Alex Berzins

Google
The place was packed! However the service was fast. They had 5 or 6 people working the orders. This is not a soft serve ice cream and they have all kinds of flavors. Don't be intimidated by the line, they are super fast!

RV Traveler

Google
Excellent homemade ice cream. Many flavors to choose from. The apple pie was delicious. Price was very reasonable. Nice setting. Excellent service

Thomas Fisher

Google
The best ice cream in the entire Southwest suburbs of Chicago!

Daniel R.

Yelp
It was originally called Sophie's and Sophie also made the ice cream in the basement and it was delicious back then and it still is

Shasta L.

Yelp
Well this was a little gem on a hot day in Illinois. Only about a mile away wonderful ice-cream with a line out the door. Loved the pink house candy land feel in this midwestern town in the summertime. The staff mostly young ladies were fast, friendly, and very efficient, we had our delicious flavors in no time. Great taste and consistency, we can't wait to go back tomorrow!

Yelp
Recently I decided to cut dairy from my diet, but I've been craving ice cream. I searched ice cream with dairy substitutes near me and The Plush Horse came up. I was a bit nervous about the taste of ice cream with no milk. But I'm here to tell you it was scrumptious! They have about 8 milk substitute/ vegan flavors. I chose my favorite, cookies & cream. The ice cream was made of coconut milk which gave extra flavor to my cookies & cream. A combination I otherwise may not have thought would be so delicious. The ambiance was cute. The color pink and ice cream flavors everywhere. They of course have adult size tables but I found the tables for the kiddos too cute. The service was good. There is a cashier who takes your order, to keep the line moving and worker's preparing the orders. It got pretty crowded and I overheard a few customers say how much they love this place. The regular ice cream must be a hit too!

Ryan J.

Yelp
My fiancee took me here. She said she's been visiting this place since she was in high school. It's definitely not in a location where I would expect an ice cream place to be. It's at a busy 4-way stop intersection. Definitely be careful crossing the street if you have kids. The ice cream place looks like it's in an old house from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Once you're inside, you'll see that they have horse stuff everywhere (The Plush Horse duh) They have so many flavors of ice cream. They also have shakes and some smaller candies. They have ice cream cones, waffle cones, and 3 different cup sizes. I got a large cup of cookie dough ice cream. Since it was so hot outside (they do have plenty of outside seating), we ate inside. The prices are reasonable, and the ice cream is delicious. From watching all the people coming and going, I can tell they have been coming back for generations. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. 5/5

Yelp
The Plush Horse is a staple of the south suburbs and for good reason - their ice cream is delicious! I've been coming since I was a kid and still love every ice cream flavor I try here (personal favorite is the chocolate peanut butter!) If you haven't tried Plus Horse be sure to put it on your list for ice cream!

Yelp
First off, I love Plush Horse in Palos and their ice cream & gelato. I've brought so many people there who have loved it as well. Today, was an exception just based on customer service since I walked out and didn't order anything. I walked in and the girl at the front was on the phone and taking what sounded like a cake order from a customer asking a million questions and she kept asking for them to repeat what they were saying and she couldn't understand them. I stood in front of her for almost 5 minutes and she never acknowledged me. Not even a whisper of I'll be with you in just a minute. Now, the courteous thing and what I was always taught in the customer service based jobs I worked in that prioritized their customers was to politely ask if you can put the person on hold on the phone and take the order for the person in front of you. At least even acknowledge me!! At one point I held my hand up to get her attention and she still ignored me! There was a girl putting towels away that I asked if they had a specific flavor. She responded and walked away as if I bothered her. Once the girl on the phone decided to speak to me. She said in a tone "I'm on the phone I'll be with you when I'm done" At that point I walked out and she said sarcastically for me to have a nice day. I've previously been in customer service jobs for great companies for over a decade and that's not how you go about it. At least acknowledge your customers in front of you and update them on what's going on, ask another person to help or kindly put the person on the phone and take an order. I will have a nice day to get ice cream somewhere else today. I was so disappointed.

Yelp
love the ice cream here. The pistachio one is really nice, creamy and with chunks of pistachio inside. The salted peanut butter is also very good. Very busy spot but worth the wait.

William A.

Yelp
Delicious product Old skool service Miles and miles of smiles Market value pricing I bring everyone here

Steve B.

Yelp
Popular and good. Parking is dicey, but the place is worth the trip. It's a bunch of people enjoying good ice cream. Head on over.

Veronica I.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place because they have several flavors of vegan ice cream that are absolutely to die for. They always have a super long line in the summertime, and they stay pretty busy in the winter too. But it's well worth the wait and the servings are enormous so I always have plenty to take home.

Joan S.

Yelp
Went for rum Raisin again...still very good. However, hubby ordered a sundae with butter pecan ice cream and got some other type of icecream...boo :( The receipt said butter pecan...we were to far on the way home to turn around.

Eva S.

Yelp
It's one of the best homemade ice cream businesses around. My favorites are Black Cherry and Peqch.

ALice A.

Yelp
Such a cute ice cream, coffee and tea place! We stopped by on a rainy sunday afternoon. The place was not crowded and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I love their Halloween decorations too! Since there wasnt many people there, I was able to take some cute photos of the shop. As you know, they have lotssssssssssssssssss of homemade ice cream flavors to choose from. If you are like me and want to stick with something simple, the vanilla ice cream was delicious! It almost tasted like a soft serve ice cream instead because it was so fresh. Did i mention they also offer VEGAN ice cream as well?!! My friend got the Vegan Peanut Butter and Jelly. It was soooooo good. You can't even tell there was no dairy at all. They are also generous with their servings. The baby scoop size was already a lot for me to finish in one setting. My friend got the One Scoop size one and it was A LOT of ice cream for one person to finish. Although it is a good size for couples to share! I was told during hot summer days, the lines usually are out the door! Parking is very limited in the back of the shop. There are also a few outdoor seats/ benches there that you can enjoy the ice cream at. I'd definitely recommend anyone that is in the area to stop by and try out this place! It is absolutely delicious! Oh, first time checking in on yelp unlocks a 20% off total bill to use! Another reason to go and give this ice cream shop a try!!!!

Allison P.

Yelp
Best IceCream hands down! My personal favorites are Mint Chip and Cookie Monster. Delicious!

Mari B.

Yelp
We were visiting the area and in the mood for ice cream so we ordered some via delivery app from The Plush Horse. The ice cream flavors are both unique and traditional. I purchased 4 flavors to try: rocky road, butter pecan, mango sorbet, and cookie monster. All 4 were very delicious flavors. I saw they have great compliments on the banana split and other flavors. I would like to visit the actual location next time to see their full menu and have a more personal experience. If you are in the mood for some ice cream, check out The Plush Horse.

Jaclyn O.

Yelp
The original Plush Horse has ice cream that's consistently delicious with so many flavors and sizes to choose from. Some favorites include: pistachio, pumpkin (seasonal), mint chip, and apple pie. We've been ordering Plush Horse ice cream cakes for 30+ years to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. The Plush Horse consistently delivers amazing, delicious and creative ice cream cakes. Their cake artists are super talented and happy to work with you to create a unique and themed cake for any occasion. Be sure to call in advance to place your ice cream cake order.

Yelp
This is a hometown staple and I would consider the best ice cream shops. The decor gives off very nice vibes. We have never been disappointed.

Aiden H.

Yelp
I loved it made me wanna grow up old and come here as a routine made me feel like a valued customer as well

Anita M.

Yelp
They have so many flavors of ice cream and gelato. It's great. Plush horse will not disappoint.

Captain R.

Yelp
The Plush Horse has been around for ever. It is reasonably price for the scoops you get. Great banana splits. You won't be disappointed. It gets very busy after dinner time. Some of the best ice cream around.

Randy P.

Yelp
My grandson's favorite. Always great ice cream and the employees are always great. Ice cream hard to choose as there are so many kinds.

CK D.

Yelp
Heaven!! That's how i felt when our group went there for ice cream! T'was my first time there and I realized I had missed out a lot of my existence by not knowing this place sooner.. creamy, delicious, cheap !! The only downside? Parking But I'd definitely go back ! 9 stars !!!

Marissa M.

Yelp
Amazing selection of ice cream and gelatos! The coziest place to sit and enjoy your scoops. Also love the literal plush horse that hangs out in his little room. Always a favorite, and most certainly will be back!

Jason C.

Yelp
Haven't been there since I was a young buck but great memories! Happiest time of my life!

Frank R.

Yelp
I've been going here since I was a kid only thing that sucks is everybody wants to go here the ice cream is great my new favorite I just tried the white Cookie Monster. I liked the pistachio nut and you can't go wrong with vanilla.

Consumer N.

Yelp
Heartier than custard and delicious! Can't eat it all the time but it's definitely a treat! This ice cream may as well be a meal in itself since it's so rich. Only downside is it's too small and gets full with just a few people. You know how customers are; no regard for anyone else because apparently they're the only ones in this universe and this store is open for them only because there are no other people in the world. "People"? What's a "people"? So, I go to the other location in Tinley Park if I'm truly craving it since it's got more parking and a slightly larger space to wait in line. Thankfully there's another location.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Hands down best ice cream I've ever had in my entire life! Make sure you get there early, though, because there is very limited seating inside of the establishment.

Vanessa G.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite neighborhood ice cream shop! Their scoops are huge! One scoop looks like three scoops! They have yummy flavors to choose from and is my favorite spot to get a banana milkshake! So good!

Gerrit K.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream with a great classic soda shop vibe, great friendly service that can handily deal with a large crowd, and plenty of flavors and options to choose from. Great roadside remote location makes it feel like you're in the rural countryside when really it's not far to the big city.

Jim M.

Yelp
Great ice cream...Ambiance is of days of yesterday. Building is 100 yrs old....plus. Friendly people & atmosphere. Like it. 5 stars

Sarah Z.

Yelp
Love that they have dairy free/ vegan options! Had the cotton candy and elephant tracks flavors. Just fabulous!

Subul A.

Yelp
Love the ice cream. The best assortment of flovors. Great serving size. And fast service

Lauren M.

Yelp
So many amazing flavors and no matter your age, the atmosphere brings a smile to your face.

Alexandra W.

Yelp
Great local ice cream spot!! So many flavors to choose from.. homemade . It's a walk up and take out spot! You'll find lots of families outside enjoying!

Diana M.

Yelp
Fav ice cream joint. The ice cream is so fresh and tasty. Love all the options and flavors. The ice coffee is horribly and needs major change. But I love the ice cream so it makes up for the horrible ice coffee.

Kat S.

Yelp
The ice cream is delicious and the staff is as well. I would highly recommend. Plenty of parking on the street and in the lot

Sylvia M.

Yelp
Great place and ice cream. Love their outdoor patio. I don't live close but, would definitely make the drive back.

Vanessa O.

Yelp
This place is overrated. My family and I wanted to love it so bad, mainly my husband. He had been mentioning this place to me since we moved in the area. Both of us were disappointed upon arrival, literally no one inside, not even close to closing time & yet we were being rushed? Customer service was extremely rude. I was tempted to ask what her deal was but I decided to take it to yelp. As for the Ice cream, not even close to what you can get in the area. Again, this place is way overrated & we won't be returning.

Bill O.

Yelp
A great place to enjoy ice cream. There are so many varieties of ice cream. I'm sure they will have your favorite flavor.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
I had a great experience! The seating inside the parlor was adorable. The employees were helpful and even offered us the chance to test out a few flavors before deciding, to which we obliged. We ended up going with the waffle sundae option. It was extremely flavorful. I wished the waffle would've been warmer and slightly crispier but the ice cream was tasty so that made up for it. The pricing was pretty standard. Although not necessarily super affordable, we got what we paid for I'd say. One order was enough for two people to share. The only other critique I have is that the presentation could've been better, but considering that we ordered our treat to go, I don't think much could've been done about that. Solid 3.8-4 out of 5.

Maribel D.

Yelp
Really good ice cream. You do have to wait in line at times but it will be worth it. Cookies are really good aswell.

Art C.

Yelp
Went here on Father's Day today and the line was out the door. We thought the wait would be an hour but we tried it anyways. We had our ice cream in 15 minutes. The staff behind the counter was awesome and very nice and smiling. It's no wonder this place has been there forever. Great working staff.

Chris G.

Yelp
My favorite scoop ice cream. Love the taste and texture of it. The Italian lemonade is a must try.

Felicia C.

Yelp
Great plant based ice cream. I like the coconut cup or cone. My hubby liked the strawberry chocolate.

Jason W.

Yelp
This place is amazing! After seeing Yelper Gem S check in here a number of times, I just had to stop in since my fiancé and I were in Chicago for my friend's wedding shower. Opened in 1937, this place clearly has a rich history! The decor inside is very warm and fuzzy...little horse figures and a life size plush horse! Check my pic! It definitely has an old timey feel to it inside...something you don't see too much of anymore. Their homemade ice cream was excellent and they definitely don't skimp on the scoop sizes. Our smalls were huge! The number of different flavors they had was crazy! It made it very difficult to decide, but after sampling a good amount of flavors, we were finally able to decide on Black Walnut and Sweet Caroline. Very fresh and creamy without being too sweet. I'd say it was comparable to the ice cream at Honey Hut, my favorite ice cream back home in Cleveland. Besides ice cream, they have a little coffee shop area that also sells cookies, candied apples, and other sweets. They did have a small menu of hot foods as well. Great ice cream and fast, friendly service! We'll definitely be back to ride this horse again!

Lisa Q.

Yelp
Even before I was a Palos resident my family and I loved Plush Horse! From the charming small town feel of the corner ice cream shop, to the d e v I n e selection of ice cream, I will always recommend Plush Horse!

Mia R.

Yelp
I wish the the staff was a little nicer along with being a little more helpful. It was our first time stopping by. This place was so so packed and nothing seemed in order. The ice cream was pretty good.

ROBERT D.

Yelp
Excellent home made ice cream. I tried the blackberry chocolate ice cream. Had a good fresh blackberry taste without too much chocolate. Also tried the cappuccino ice cream. Had a good coffee flavor and not too sweet like diner coffee.

Angelica D.

Yelp
LOVE this wonderful old place. I grew up on Plush Horse ice cream ! The staff are always friendly & accommodating. The managements is wonderful & is always ensuring a quality product. This is the best ice cream (by far), in the area. I live right by the original rainbow cone & I still drive a 1/2hr to stock up on their quarts every week until winter. PLEASE bring back the original chocolate chocolate chip ice cream. There really is nothing like it anywhere else

Anika S.

Yelp
Best icecream in the area! Such a great selection of flavors and treats highly recommend the moose tracks flavor if you like to spice things up
