A 24-Hour Food Tour Across Southern Vancouver Island - Eater Seattle

"This restaurant, named after the word for a rain-lover (pluviophile), embraces the Pacific Northwest’s bounty of seasons. Enjoy a range of options for your three-course menu, with choices like a wagyu beef tartar with cured mushrooms, a seafood-focused feast, or botanically-inspired seasonal fare. Pluvio’s plates pop with color and texture to excite the palate." - Sabra Boyd

We booked Pluvio for two nights, but due to the Hwy 4 closure, we stayed just one night. From the start, Lily, the manager, was incredibly kind and understanding, even waiving the night charge for our first night, which set the tone for a truly exceptional experience. The room was spacious, immaculately clean, and full of charming details. Every element felt thoughtfully designed, creating a peaceful and relaxing environment. Breakfast prepared by the chef was a bonus for us! This was my second time dining at Pluvio, and it was just as extraordinary as the first. Dinner was an unforgettable, five-star gourmet experience. Each course was refreshingly original and bursting with flavor. The service was friendly, attentive, and professional, complementing the high-quality food perfectly. This is Michelin-star-level cuisine at a great value, all within the cozy charm of a small, thoughtfully curated restaurant. From the rooms to the dining, Pluvio exceeded every expectation. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

Talking about the restaurant, considering that this is number 36 in Canada, skip this, the experience is not worth it all. The service is stellar, the environment is nice. However, the restaurant gets so hot in the summer it’s unbearable. Like the open kitchen concept is nice, but not that trade off. Food rotation is cool and all but it creates dishes that feel untested and poorly balanced, like dishes were made to just try and use an ingredient, rather than actually make food that tastes good. Also maybe it was because I had the last time available in the service, but that is no excuse when I’m paying 150+. Some food was genuinely inedible. Duck fat wasn’t rendered, biscuit felt days old, rice cracker genuinely inedible. Desserts were so bland. Just skip, not worth price to try it. You’re not going to have any meaningful experience coming out of it.

Pluvio was exceptional in every way. Our experience was fantastic and we were delighted by every harmonious bite of the tasting menu and many unexpected treat courses. The flavours and textures were varied and so creative, and the team accommodated our gluten free party seamlessly. The atmosphere was inviting and unpretentious, and everyone we interacted with (thank you Lily and Andy!) was passionate about the menu. Our dinner was truly a highlight of visiting the area.

We had one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had on Vancouver Island at Pluvio. From start to finish, everything was thoughtful, refined, and personal in the best way. The atmosphere is relaxed yet special—perfect for truly enjoying each moment. The food was outstanding. Each dish was beautifully composed and packed with flavour, showcasing real creativity and care. You can tell the kitchen is passionate about their craft, with local ingredients and unique pairings that made every course a delight. It was exciting and comforting all at once. The service took the experience to another level. Our server, Rachel, was incredible—warm, intuitive, and deeply knowledgeable about the menu and pairings. She made us feel so well taken care of and added a personal touch that really stood out. Pluvio delivers not just a meal, but a complete and memorable experience. We left feeling inspired and already talking about when we can come back. A true standout on the island.

We came for dinner and a three day stay in one of their rooms. Absolutely fantastic! Dinner was an unforgettable five star gourmet experience! The rooms are very nicely appointed, with an exceptionally high level of quality, and attention to detail. The room included a breakfast prepared the chef that was fantastic! Very peaceful and quiet as well. Super dog friendly - included two bowls, dog bed, dog blanket, dog towel, and even some dog treats! We will definitely be doing this again!

Amazing stay here! The room was so bright and beautiful, it felt like we were in a home. We weren't expecting the yummy breakfast and fresh baked cookies that was included, it was all delicious! The location was right in the heart of the town so we were able to walk to eat and to the lighthouse for a mini hike. We will definitely be back!

My favourite restaurant in all of BC! Each bite was so high quality, thoughtful, and beautiful. And all with local ingredients. The portions were the perfect size and the timing between each dish was perfect. The service was phenomenal. I would come back in a heartbeat. Michelin star worthy. I will be going back to my tent feeling warm and cozy after this meal!

This review is only about the restaurant.Outstanding dining experience. We travel a lot and enjoy excellent food wine and service. This restaurant would not be out of place in London, New York or Paris. We had the 5 course tasting menu which delivered original and perfectly balanced flavours, textures and presentation in every course. Wow!! Could easily be Michelin starred (if they would want that). The atmosphere is busy and convivial, smart but also relaxed and informal - this is Uckulet after all!! it’s a small place so book ahead. Service started with a warm welcome and continued to be delightful and personal throughout the 2+ hours meal, attentive and engaged when we wanted but not overly so. Big shout out for Molly who took care of us and Sofia who managed our wine. Thanks to the entire team, we wish could also name the chef and team. Congratulations- it was a real pleasure and highlight of our stay.
