Portland is lucky to have a gem of a restaurant like this. Chef Randy eagerly shares his love of food and his lifetime of stories with the guests in his restaurant. It felt more like I was visiting a dear friend's home, sharing good food and camraderie.
I brought my friend who had recently moved here from Baton Rouge, and she started us off with a boudin. This was my first time trying this regional dish, and I really enjoyed the texture and flavor, just the right amount of pepper.
Our entrees included the shrimp po'boy and the gumbo. For this Portland raised girl, Randy's gumbo was just the right amount of spicy...a touch more and I couldn't have eaten every drop of his amazing dish. I loved the touch of including dungeness crab, along with the shrimp and sausage. The shrimp in the po'boy had such a light batter with a hint of corn meal.
Randy even came out to talk to his guests and regale us all with a bit of the history of his dishes. Such a perfectly delicious, delightful meal...I eagerly anticipate my next visit.
