14 Outstanding Fried Chicken Sandwiches in Portland | Eater Portland

"Downtown food cart Poboyz is the place to be for traditional seafood po’boys and fried ribs, but the restaurant’s fried chicken sandwich is no slouch either. Battered hunk-like strips with pickles, remoulade, tomatoes, and lettuce come in a hoagie-style roll, well-seasoned and hearty. However, if the hot honey chicken is on the menu, that’s the move."

Portland is lucky to have a gem of a restaurant like this. Chef Randy eagerly shares his love of food and his lifetime of stories with the guests in his restaurant. It felt more like I was visiting a dear friend's home, sharing good food and camraderie. I brought my friend who had recently moved here from Baton Rouge, and she started us off with a boudin. This was my first time trying this regional dish, and I really enjoyed the texture and flavor, just the right amount of pepper. Our entrees included the shrimp po'boy and the gumbo. For this Portland raised girl, Randy's gumbo was just the right amount of spicy...a touch more and I couldn't have eaten every drop of his amazing dish. I loved the touch of including dungeness crab, along with the shrimp and sausage. The shrimp in the po'boy had such a light batter with a hint of corn meal. Randy even came out to talk to his guests and regale us all with a bit of the history of his dishes. Such a perfectly delicious, delightful meal...I eagerly anticipate my next visit.

My family came here on the first day of our vacation. I got fried fish and our boys got jambalaya. The fried catfish and fries are AMAZING! I am super picky with my fried fish because my dad makes delicious fried fish. But the breading on this fish was perfect, crunchy not oily and the fish to breading ratio was spot on. There was a Cajun kick to it as well! I tried our boys jambalaya and I loved it so much we had to come back at the end of our vacation to eat it❤️ The veggies were cooked to perfection and still had crunch. The seasoning was the killer though, spicy but flavorful. We met the owner and he has trained with lots of top chefs and has the pics to prove it. My hubby loved the Cajun Bloody Mary and said it was the best he has ever had!

Got the fried shrimp poboy and the blackened chicken & fries basket. I'm honestly disappointed. I wasn't expecting something as good as what I had in Florida or LA, but I expected to actually taste some flavor in the chicken. I don't think I picked up on anything other than plain chicken and it was dry at that. The poboy was good and shrimp was perfectly cooked, but again, not a whole lot of flavor so everything tasted plain. Not worth the price.

Great staff/service and great food. Partial bar (decent alcohol selection). Highly recommend the fried shrimp po'boy + seasoned fries (with a side of remoulade sauce for dipping).

This restaurant is probably closed as the building itself is being renovated at this location. The website is still there, so maybe they will reopen after the building is renovated, but there is no information on the website. I have tried to contact them but have not received a response.
