Podi & Poriyal

"The name says it all – this vegetarian joint prides itself on the spicy ground lentil condiment known as podi, and sautéed vegetables, or poriyal. Replicating South Indian grandmas' cooking, the menu covers all plant-based dietary desires, with gluten-free, allium-free and vegan options. "Which Podi? Idli" – steamed rice cake tossed in podi – is served with a cashew and coconut chutney. Their podi dosai with poriyal filling is also excellent." - Michelin Inspector

A food-filled day with Nithiya Laila, one of Singapore’s most committed foodies - SilverKris

"A bright Little India eatery serving traditional South Indian vegetarian fare, most notably a lunchtime thali that evokes home cooking and the experience of being served on a brass plate — a nostalgic, authentic take on heritage flavours." - Mrigaa Sethi

We just had a wonderful lunch at Podi & Poriyal, and it truly exceeded our expectations! We tried the Jackfruit Biryani, assorted Podi varieties, and the Chef’s Surprise, and every dish was packed with authentic flavours and a beautiful homemade touch. • Jackfruit Biryani was aromatic, perfectly spiced, and uniquely comforting. • The Podi selection added an amazing burst of flavour to every bite. • The Chef’s Surprise was creative, delicious, and genuinely special. A big shout-out to the staff (chef)— they were extremely warm and took the time to explain each dish so thoughtfully, which made the whole experience even better. The ambiance was cozy, the service was excellent, and the presentation was on point. Highly recommend this place if you love soulful South Indian food with a twist. 🌿✨

Signature dosai set ($28) - Excellent flavours and quality. Millet upma and paneer Goan style ($32) - Excellent flavours and quality. Good coconut-flavoured millet. Only 5 pieces of paneer though. Masala chai ($5) - Good. Not too sweet. Good service.

Last visited in Jul 2025 Have been to Podi & Poriyal a few times. Food here is quite decent and their starters menu always impresses me. I would suggest anyone visiting to try quite a few of their starter/small dishes. Main course sizes are big enough for 1 large plate dish to be shared by 2 pax. Their double decker parotta is one of my favourites on their menu. Service is quite good and you’re constantly attended to and taken care of throughout your meal. Overall, a good South Indian vegetarian restaurant which is definitely worth visiting.

Had a wonderful dinner here. The food and service far exceed our expectations. The menu doesn't seem to shy from experimenting with some modern twists and the result is wonderfully thought out. Hats off to the team as they took care of us and were very hospitable. They took the time and effort to recommend us to adjust our selection and patiently explained each dish as they were served. 10/10 would come back again and recommend our friends and family.

Don't go by the reviews on Google. I went with wife, as we were fooled by google reviews. If you want to hear about the owner's career journey, If you want to eat in heavy (by weight)cultery in dimly lit restaurants, if you want to try a Michelin-starred restaurant for no reason, have excess money to blow this is ideal choice of the restaurant. If you look at the menu, it has some delicacies under the "large" category. So they are not large in size, but honestly they are large in the $ you pay. The ambiance is just okay, okay, nothing special. The size of the portion they serve needs to be micro, mini, or small. if you cook at home in coconut oil you will get the same or better taste. Overall disappointing experience; the size of the portion they serve is inversely proportional to the cost. Few steps away there is a famous Indian restaurant serving since 1924 for 40% of the cost. Service is good, food is okay & atmoshere is like a local bar in some downcountry market. but the bill is like 4 star hotel. They charge GST & service charges beyond unreasonably expensive dishes. Please avoid if you want to have peace of mind

We had the Kothimbir Vadi, Vadai and Keerai Pakoda. All were great but our fave was the Vadai and Pudina Chutney that came with the Kothimbir Vadi. The Vadai was cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside while the Chutney was refreshing with the right amount of spice in it!

Google
Exceeded my expectations after a recommendation for a friend, ask them for their signature starters and have a go at their cocktails. I didn’t know they were a social enterprise where profits go to charity and their head chef is a grandma in her 70’s! Excellent team who were very genuine and friendly too. Keep it up.

It's a very great space to enjoy Indian food. All varieties of Indian food are available. My best recommendation is for their ambience and the food presentation. Jackfruit Biryani is a must try.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place that serves up traditional South Indian dishes with a surprising twist but keeps its original flavor intact. Our party of 8 relished every single dish that came our way. From starters to the main dish to dessert every single one was delicious. The best Indian food we had during our 3 day stay in Singapore!!

Yelp
Most impressive modern Indian food I have ever had. Their reinterpretation of some of the most classic dishes from the south is unique, fresh and always tasty. Will be back for more and more and more.

Yelp
Nice hosts. Welcoming and homely. We were given a table despite being fully booked, accommodated us in outdoor seating. Food taste is great, very homelike. It was a Diwali special lunch meal and totally worth it. Will visit again on a normal weekend.

Yelp
Unique sit-down South Indian fare, with whatever's cooking in the kitchen that day. The staff is open to explain everything and take a quick South Indian lunch to a slightly atas level ;) The biggest draw for us is the option to have millets instead of white rice for the meal.
