Delightful Literary Coffee Spot in New York: I stopped by Poetica Coffee on a rainy New York morning. I’d seen the quaint spot several times riding the bus to the lower east side of the city. It looked so very inviting and true enough to my very good culinary instincts, so it was! I had a very nicely brewed cappuccino and their vanilla yoghurt pots were delicious. They have an assortment of pastries and several served up just for the vegan palate. The macaroons looked inviting : ) The cafe has a somewhat European feel to it and is small with only 9 tables. It’s the perfect spot for a coffee and good newspaper /book read or for me a place for a teacher to mark papers or a journalist to write a review on the weekends or quiet day in the city. Chill music makes for a very relaxed atmosphere in this sunlight lofty feel cafe, which seemed to me like a literary dinning reservoir for residents of the area. The service and staff are extremely warm and friendly which made my morning visit perfect - relaxed and very peaceful indeed - just the way I like it. Enjoy your time at this delightfully oh so cute cafe!

Lovely local-feeling coffee shop with the reliability of a “Starbucks”. Strong wifi, clean tables, good for laptop / coworking / studying. 2h table time per purchase (super fair). No bathroom/restroom. Poetica latte - brown sugar vanilla - was too sweet for me in the hot form. Maybe would be nicer as an iced drink.

Ordered a cortado. Received an extra hot frothy cappuccino that did not hit at all. Would not recommend for those interested in high quality coffee

Affordable coffee and a lovely seating area! It can get crowded, but I spent roughly 2 hours and there were moments when the cafe would suddenly become vacant, providing ample space for newcomers. Furthermore, buying something allows you to utilize your laptop for 2 hours, after which you need to make another purchase. Their croissants are also priced reasonably, the butter croissant was scrumptious! A friend of mine had a blueberry croissant which was equally superb!

Snag a pierogi and a coffee (they have any option you can think of + a signature poetica drink). Great atmosphere with exposed brick, greenery & book pages as decor. They have great wifi and a few outlets as well. There are 8ish small tables, but I went on a Sunday morning and found a spot no problem.

Good coffee with indoor places to sit and work (always a major plus for me). There’s a 2 hr time limit on laptops, which is more or less observed and keeps tables more or less open. Great atmosphere, and pretty quiet. Love working here.

Beautiful space: exposed brick, plant plentiful, and ornate with a variety of old time artwork. Good amount of seating with solid variety: cushioned booths, square wooden tables, stools by the bar, and mini picnic tables outside. A bit dark on the interior, which gives off a cozy and artsy feel. Almost like a college study lounge. If you’re there between 10am and noon you’ll get sunlight by the windows. Lovely! Poetica roasts their own beans near Brooklyn. They feature their beans on the shelf. Only two options: dark roast or medium dark roast. They were serving the dark roast for their drip coffee. It was fine: a bit overextracted. Still better than diner coffee. Other amenities: water on tap. Coffee score: 3.5/5. Everything else score: 4.5/5. Overall score: 4.5/5.

Solid spot to do some work, but noting that there aren't any outlets for charging and no bathroom if you plan to be there longer. The menu is well-priced, but there isn't really anything special on it either. Service was merely okay and the barista seemed annoyed and wasn't terribly friendly when ordering. You can sit down with work for two hours before you have to order something else, which seems totally fair. There's a selection of drinks and baked goods. I ordered a peppermint tea and my friend got a chai latte, neither of which was that good. The tea lid was also leaking and made a bit of a mess. It does have a nice plant aesthetic, good music and vibes, and is a relatively cheap place to get work done so I would maybe come again if in the area!

The coffee is so-so but the macaroons are delicious. The coffee cups are cute as well. I wish the seating was more comfortable.

Listen, I've seen some weird setups in my life, but a coffee shop with no bathroom? That's like opening a water park with no towels. "Here, have this liquid that makes you pee... good luck with that!" This place is GORGEOUS though. Plants everywhere. You better show up at early though if you want a seat, otherwise you're standing there awkwardly with your latte, eyeing that one guy who's been nursing the same espresso for three hours while hogging the good corner spot.

I needed to refuel with some coffee after some serious thrift shopping. I was beginning to get tired from the hunt when I realized some coffee would help re-energize me. I headed to Yelp to find a cute coffee shop nearby and Poetica popped up. It looked absolutely adorable and wasn't too far from my next thrift stop. Upon entering, I was in love with all the natural lighting and plants. It's a tiny and aesthetically pleasing spot. I was a bit hungry, but they seemed to only offer pastries and sweeter snacks. There were a lot of coffee options on the menu. When I asked the barista what the poetica drink was she told me it was a brown sugar latte with vanilla and I got so excited. She noted it was sweet how excited I got for the drink. I ordered it iced with oat milk. It was so delicious and hit the spot. Do note that this location doesn't have a bathroom, but the library nearby has a public restroom. There were some people near me working on their laptops so it seems like this is a good spot to get some work done. I highly recommend stopping here for a quick coffee drink.

Quick service + great lattes + wonderful ambiance + consistent flow of customers = no complaints for this visitor. I was in town for work and had a time block for myself to wrap up loose ends on a project, so I popped in here for some focus time and had a delightful experience. I snagged a table near the entrance, popped in my AirPods, and enjoyed my latte while soaking in the NY scenery. I docked one star just because they didn't have glassware for those who were dining in. I understand this might be driven by less workforce/trash/dishes but if I'm sitting for 1+ hours and ordering multiple beverages while teleworking, a proper glass would have made it a tad more enjoyable versus drinking out of a paper cup. This won't stop me from returning, I'll probably grab a latte to-go next time instead.

I met a friend here to get some work done on a Friday around 2 PM, and it was just what we needed. Even though it was a perfect 75 degrees outside, there weren't any tables out there, so we hunkered down inside--which, honestly, was perfect because it was super quiet. Ideal for working without distractions. The WiFi worked well, and there's a 2-hour time limit per purchase, which seems totally reasonable. Drinks and treats were pretty standard, but they do have macaroons if you're feeling fancy. The vibe inside is cute, very SoHo chic. I'd definitely come back for a productive work session!

My particular visit this day was just OK. I ordered a 12oz hot Matcha Latte ($5.50) and it was lukewarm. It seemed that the milk wasn't heated enough, and so my drink became cold really quick. My drink also didn't have enough matcha powder, so it tasted primarily like milk. While I didn't have a stellar visit, I'm open to giving Poetica another shot, since the reviews look great, and the cafe is bright and cozy.

If you don't want to read my story below - here's the summary: Super good coffee! So here I was, casually strolling on a cold December afternoon through the streets of East Village. I needed a warm cup of the good stuff. We know New York is cold in December and I'm the type of person who is cold in July - it's a curse. Anyway, I was heading to another popular brown bean flavored water spot when I saw this beautiful sign. I was cold and didn't want to walk another couple blocks. So my cousins and I went inside to try it out. The inside is small and cute. They have a 2 hour limit on the seating but it definitely looks like a place I would love to come work for a bit or have a little coffee meet up with a friend (if I had any). There were several other people in there and that's always a good sign. There was only one employee working, but he was super efficient so there wasn't much of a wait at all. I ordered my usual vanilla latte and step aside so my cousins can order. One of my cousins orders her usual matcha latte something - (she's a coffee snob who has worked at several other brown bean water shops) and my other cousin goes rogue and orders their signature "poetica latte". I turned to him in shock and asked, " do you even know what is in there?" and he says something so profound: " no. But it's their signature coffee, named after their business, so it had to be good, right?". The employee chuckled and told us that the latte was made with brown sugar or something like that. It did sound good. We waited less than a couple minutes for all three of our drinks. We originally all wanted some drinks just to warm us up but what we got was magic. All our drinks were so good! Super creamy and rich. As we walked away, with our lattes in hand, we all kept talking about how delicious they were. My cousin was done with his before we finished walking to our next destination (the christmas market) like 3-4 blocks away. Definitely recommend this place. Both for their coffee and ambiance. But don't plan on it warming your hands for too long because you'll drink it quickly.

A cozy spot with great vibes tucked into the East Village -- I love all of the art on the walls and there are plenty of tables to sit and chat with a friend. The barista was willing to make me a London Fog since I'm not a big coffee drinker, and loved the tea selection as well. Might just be my new go-to neighborhood spot, since it tends to be less crowded than some of the others in the area.

I grabbed coffee here on a Sunday afternoon. It's not a big cafe, but there are a fair number of tables. I had a cold brew, which was good. The staff were friendly and the ambiance was cozy. It seemed like a great place to get work done or catch up with a friend!

I had the two peroigi's which were more like stuffed buns (apparently they russian style!?) they were yummy but if you like your food a little more seasoned you probably won't like these. The iced poetica latte(vanilla,brown sugar,oat milk) was really tasty. The baristas are always friendly (and a little sassy)

Good energy. The person working was nice to everyone who came in. I got a chai which was pretty good, and a croissant, which was okay. There's nice sweating in the space as well.

I really loved the barista here she was so friendly and sweet! So reliable and I can definitely see myself doing work here. The interior had a clean, rustic vibe and there was a lot of seating and most doing work with the free wifi. They also have free water and books. I really liked my caramel latte it was perfect! Seems like a really great new coffee shop. Would definitely come in again if I'm in the area.

Great place to study/do work! They have lots of tables, and the inside is quaint and quiet. The coffee is very good, with big cups and good prices. The staff is very friendly, and the service is fast.

The coffee here is very good - but it's also very crowded because it is so good! So be warned. Wouldn't guarantee a seat at all but people get up frequently. They have a few tables and make the best of the space. In the summer they have outdoor which makes it a lot easier.

Terrible experience and was made to feel very uncomfortable while there. Awful coffee.

I'm giving 3/5 stars because 1 of their staff members provides 1/5 service, whereas everyone else is 5/5. All too often when this one particular woman works she messes up the order. She'll either make a large and charge me as such when I specifically ask for a small. She will use the incorrect milk, which for me is a preference thing, but for others can be a health issue. She will sit there on her phone for 5+ minutes past opening while a line starts to form outside. And then today the decaf americano was made in roughly 10 seconds, which indicates to me that she just used drip coffee & ice water instead of a proper espresso shot. Not surprisingly, the Americano tasted like absolutely nothing. Sorry, but this woman at the Prospect Avenue store can do a lot better.

Good vibes. I enjoyed my tea. Loved the open windows. Quiet, which was appreciated. There are limitations on outlets and no restroom so there's but so long I was able to stay here.

Poetica is a coffee shop that just opened. I had hot chocolate which was rich, just the way I like it. My friend also loved "poetica" drink (latte). We visited while it rained outside so it felt comforting. It is sort of self-service. You get drinks yourself and sit at a table. I would love to visit again.

Clean, friendly (enough) staff, a cute bookshelf of books to peruse and good coffee. Like all coffee shops around here, snagging a table can be tough. But it's a good spot

Honestly looked so sick externally but just like majority of things looks are deceiving. One of the wateriest stupid coffees in Manhattan. If this coffee was a person, I'd spit in its face. Don't get the poetics special it's an absolute heresy.

Located at the legendary Gem Spa corner, Poetica Coffee is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Originating in Brooklyn, this little cafe serves outstanding coffee drinks, macarons and croissants. It's a great place to relax and enjoy. I wonder if they're going to add Egg Creams to their menu.

The matcha was terrible and the barista (unfortunately didn't get her name) was rude. She was rude to me when I was ordering, rude to other customers, and rude to her coworker.

The Poetica latte (vanilla and brown sugar) is amazing, very good if you like sweet but strong coffee. It's also one of the best and most reliable places to work in the East Village!! If you are lucky enough to come in when Alexa is on aux, you will not regret it! Their service is always extremely friendly and they create a really great atmosphere. Cant recommend enough!

Poetica has a cool interior and has plenty of seating if you want ti sit in. They have good coffee and tea while also having some lovely pastries. The lemon bars were sneaky good too. Lovely place and perfect part of the neighborhood. They also have a couple outside tables if you want to go that route.

Excellent space to work/study, lots of seating and wifi. Nice vibe and decor in the cafe with books and a rustic style. The Poetica coffee drink is really good too, it's a latte with brown sugar and vanilla.

Oh my god... two women were working on monday morning and were practically yelling / singing while working. There's a happy medium, it's a monday morning ppl are trying to be calm and do work lol. I left it was so unnerving

Both female staff at the counter today were incredibly rude and intimidating. Food is meh. I like the half price on Wednesdays is appealing but the uncomfortable experience going there each time is not worth the discount, which says a lot because it's a great deal. I'd rather pay more and not be treated this way. They are working in the service industry yet making customers feel disrespected. I don't see myself returning here.

Great, rich iced cold brew. Haven't tried anything else. Friendly service. Wish they had a public restroom.

could not recommend this coffee shop enough!! I think they have one of the best iced vanilla lattes in the city & Alexa, the barista always gives 100/10 customer service. I've popped in for coffee after runs or have sat for a bit and worked on work and I'm always so impressed by how well she interacts with customers, engages with them & asks them questions to ensure their experience is top notch! Working in service can be so challenging (coming from someone who serves and bartends) and even if Alexa is having an off day or hard day, you'd never know!! love it here!!!

Barista makes a delicious cup of coffee! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Can't wait to come back.
