Poinçon Review - 14th Arr. - Paris - The Infatuation

"A restaurant serving small plates and Sunday jazz brunch in a 19th-century railway station may sound like food trend bingo, but that's what makes Poinçon a cultural hub and dining destination in the 14th. Pull up a chair on the airy ground floor, cozy mezzanine, or patio with twinkle lights, and feast on the three-course lunch prix fixe or the evening selection of small plates. Both menus, best described as international comfort food with a few fine dining twists, are a little all over the place, but they work. Perfectly cooked cuttlefish is paired with earthy mushroom duxelles and creamy piquillo sauce, and you’ll definitely want to keep the two chicken tacos for yourself. The food is enough to hold our attention, but regular events only make the space more vibrant, whether you're sketching live art models before dinner or digging into the unlimited Sunday buffet with things like spicy dhal and slow-cooked beef cheek served to a bossa nova backdrop." - Emily Monaco

We were pleasantly surprised by the creativity of the chef. The dishes were great from the starter to the desert!! Bravo to the team in the kitchen!

Cool spot. Really good food and great vibe inside. The staff are all really friendly. Would like a few more lunch options on weekends as there were only 3 main dishes. But they were cooked fantastically.

First thing first - the aircon is very strong, which is rare in Paris. Loved it! We had weekday lunch there. - waiter/waitress were friendly - presentation was beautiful - the food tasted good - the price was fair - the aircon was strong Nothing else to complain about. Strongly recommended

Really loved the brunch there. Lots of different food and drinks options available, fresh products, cooked hot and cold dishes, dips, great bread. Great quality for the price and didn't feel like anything was missing. Expect a bit of a crowd but we didn't queue much. Live music was a wonderful addition

It is amazing that they change menu every week while making sure everything on the menu is delicious! And the architecture is renovated from an abandoned train station, which has retro vibe.

It's magical and tragic that the menu changes frequently because i want to bring my family from overseas here but the dish I love will soon vanish 😭 the food was obviously mindblowing and I love the ambience and energy of the staff ❤️❤️❤️

Music very good but crowd mostly there to socialize, not listen to live performance. Our experience in NYC, SF, DC, there is more respect for musicians and venue demands that. Staff were spot on. Liked the ambiance.

Cute and lovely place…. But the staff is lacking! Two bartenders rather young, barely reactive behind the bar. And the cherry on top, the man who welcomed us at the door to get seated, he doesn’t seem to bother, doesn’t look at you when speaking to you, simply not interested and no for one interaction while we were there but at each time we got to talk to him, sorry sir for bothering you. A shame, we ordered a 50€ wine bottle, no olives, no peanuts… that’s okish. We wanted to eat here well we didn’t. This being said the smell was so appealing from the kitchen that we may be back to try the food at a different occasion

Yelp
Good food, cute place to have a dinner date. Service could improve a little, but nice place. Will come back.

Yelp
J'etais au Poincon pour un evenement. - Buffet soit-disant a volonte.

Yelp
The first dinner pitstop on my first trip to Paris. It was a tapas global restaurant and a tint of Parisian food. After a red eye flight and landing in Paris for the afternoon tour of signature sites. Built up our appetite to dine in the peaceful neighborhood of Montparnasse. Granted this place doesn't have an english menu but was still easy to navigate even with some partial French knowledge. Several items on the menu were similar to general tapas dishes from Spain and chose the few plates out of pure nostalgia. My choice of words after gulping down every dish - savory, saucy, and smooth bits of heaven. My favorite dish was the most basic of all we ordered - the Jambon / ham. Something about natural helpings of salt made this dish so slippery delicious (should be a descriptive catch phrase). Also we made good use of every piece of baguette from our table's basket and dipped it in everything saucy, especially the patatas salad. Our waitress was very attentive and was very respectful too knowing French wasn't our primary language. Everything was made easy for us to navigate and fine dine our way through. A satisfactory meal before ending the night. And what makes dinner so enchanting in Paris was how the night ended at 11pm with the late sunset. Magnificent stuff.

Yelp
Came for the Sunday Jazz Brunch and it was great... once we were allowed in. Unfortunately, arriving on time for our 11:30am Brunch also meant waiting in line for 10minutes before they'd actually seat us. Some people were waiting outside in the cold, after we took the plunge and waited inside before other people arrived. To improve the guest experience, I'd suggest making sure the restaurant is ready at least 10min prior to reserved seating. Unlike evening Jazz sets, the morning crowd is an early to rise crowd, and would rather watch musicians warm up inside while they also warm up with coffee than wait outside. After we got over that hurdle, everything was serve-yourself buffet style. There were oven cooked meats, cold salads, fresh waffles, pastries, yogurts, smoothies, juices, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, fruit salad, cereals, baguettes, soup, vegan options, and nothing felt like it was missing. Everything was seasoned and prepared well, even for being a buffet- so in the end- the food quality and great music saved the morning delay. The acoustics were great- not too loud to have a conversation- but loud enough to appreciate the music over other people chatting. I'd even go a second time!
