Point Fermin Park is one of those unique spaces on the Southern California landscape. It is this nice park, at the end of the road, that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
Whereas many parks are set up with basketball courts, football fields, and other sports related activity areas, this is not the case with Point Fermin. Mostly, this is just a very scenic park where people walk, have picnics, and do things like that. Yes, they do have a small, yet very unique amphitheater, where once upon a time I imagine they gave concerts and put on plays. I have not seen anything like that going on in recent years, however. But, the amphitheater is still there and it is a unique historic structure.
This park is also home to a large house, constructed a long-long time ago, where you can get tours. If you're into doing stuff like that, this gives you a peek into the way life used to be in Southern California.
For you adventurers who want to investigate truly unique Southern California locations, this is also the park where are you climb over the fence and walk down to Slab City. Technically, you're not supposed to do that, but that doesn't seem to stop the many graffiti artists and others who want to walk down among those formations.
Overall, if you want to take a nice walk along the California coast, from an elevated location, and see the wonders of the California landscape, this is a great place to do just that. There's plenty of parking along the outer ridge of the park, and the parking is free. Also, if you look Eastward and upward you can see the Korean Bell.
Overall, nice park. A great place to take a moment and relax.
