Chill Out With New Orleans’s Best Cold Seafood Dishes This Summer

"Poke is a quick-marinated raw fish with roots in Hawaii and influences from the many traders and immigrants that passed through and settled in the islands. Poke Loa, now with five locations, was the first to bring the savory snack to New Orleans. So many options, from choices of rice or noodles, sauces, proteins, and toppings — how does spicy salmon on zucchini noodles with cucumbers, edamame, mango, and tobiko with tamari sound? So good right?" - Beth D'Addono

The New Poke Loa Has a Tiki Bar | Eater New Orleans

"I found the new South Market District outpost to be the chain's third location and a continuation of its fast-casual, build-your-own poke format—mixed greens, rice, chopped raw fish, marinades, and toppings—but unlike the other locations it includes a full tiki-style bar. The cocktails lean health-forward (and also include traditional options), with offerings like sparkling sake and kombucha-mixed drinks made with natural fresh juices, natural flavoring and colors, and many drinks with no added sugar; it also has a mochi bar (ice cream wrapped in pounded sticky rice). The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m." - Stephanie Carter

Just ordered from Uber eats. I decided to give these guys a chance because I was really craving poke. Really regret it. They missed more than half of my toppings, and didn’t add any sauce which makes this entire bowl basically inedible. To top it off…. they put straight up raw onion in the bowl. That wasn’t even an option on the menu nor did I want it. TLDR; Skip this place yall.

i ordered from uber eats. the ahi tuna was almost black, smelled & tasted absolutely rancid. i also paid extra for eel sauce and didn’t get any at all. i won’t order from this location again:/ i also ate some of that tuna before realizing so i hope i don’t get food poisoning lol

I have been going to Poke Loa for years and was one of my favorite lunch spots while working in the CBD. I was away for a while and came back to the city, longing to have my regular bowl that I missed so much. However, the quality and service have gone downhill. Out of the last three times I've had a bowl, the flavors were lacking significantly, and on the last bowl, the spicy tuna and squid salad had a rancid taste to them. I ended up eating the rice and mix ins because it is pricy to get thrown away, but I think I'm done with them.

TL;DR: An adequate poke location to curb your craving. I wouldn't go out of my way to get there or to avoid it. Sad soda experience on this trip. A new location, sameish Poke Loa. My wife and I are used to frequenting the Old Metairie location of Poke Loa, but I was in the area for this location when I got a BOGO text. So, I gave it a go. First off, good luck parking. My best advice on this regard is to park in the grocery lot across the street (if you're fortunate). Next, the location is nice, with more space and seating than I'm used to. The service is typical for fast food members that get paid a lower than average wage. I was disappointed on two accounts--1) there were no macadamia nuts on my trip and 2) I got a soda (a once a month or so occurance for me), but the diet coke had no syrup and the rootbear was flat. The flat root beer was discovered only after I had left and, given the irregularity of my getting soda, has hugely disappointing for me. Nevertheless, this was likely an anomaly. The food was typical. The only notable less-than-standard for the food was that several fish chunks were not severed all the way through (a forgivable offense on my account). The portion of seaweed was more generous than usual and was a nice surprise for me. Everything that I noted was clean; I didn't use the restroom.

Great staff, great place and great ramen. I like that when I ordered the staff was honest with me about certain items I wanted and suggested others. The food came out perfectly and was better than I expected. I also ordered this sugarless drink that was still somehow good lol. This place was good and yes I recommend it.

The tuna is fresh and the seafood salad is amazing! Love the build-your-own bowl—there’s a lot of toppings to add for free.

Discovered this nice little restaurant walking from my hotel to another restaurant, had to stop and so glad I did. Ordered a large (4 scoops protein) salmon and tuna (king loa?) and it was so so good! Priced right for high quality ingredients. Server was very nice and place was quiet enough for me to actually enjoy my meal, which is weird for downtown NOLA. Would recommend 100% and definitively coming back.
