"Pollo Campero, a Guatemalan fried chicken chain, recently opened its first Manhattan outposts at Herald Square and the Port Authority. The restaurant offers standard fried chicken, grilled chicken, empanadas, and a variety of unique sides such as yuca fries, sweet plantains, Campero rice, and Campero beans. The sides are particularly noteworthy, distinguishing Pollo Campero from other chicken chains. The restaurant's ambiance and additional menu items like tortillas, horchata, and flan add to the dining experience." - Robert Sietsema

I went here randomly for a late quick dinner. I was on the way back to my hotel, which was around the corner, so I got the food to go. I wish I had checked the bag because they didn’t give me silverware and I had gotten mac n cheese. Luckily, the hotel had some silverware. The chicken was good and I liked that the buffalo sauce because it had a nice spice. The mac n cheese was also very creamy. Would I seek the restaurant out to eat there while in NYC? No, but they were quick and convenient.

Went to the grand opening at Penn station I figures let me try there chicken since I been waiting for ever for this place paid 14 for 3 pieces of fried chicken no tortilla no napkins or silver ware honestly instead on doing your social media and having cameras all over the place you should have focused on a positive opening not a good way to start to overrated the chicken very greasy full of fat no flavor the yuca fries I have had better .

1) They closed off the 2nd floor so I had to stand up and wait for customers to finish so I can sit. Bad. Theyd rather let people stand than open the 2nd floor where there are seats and tables. 2) There is no soap inside the bathroom so I asked the cashier for a hand sanitizer she said there is no hand soap or sanitizer. 3) Chiken in a tiny tiny box for $10 plus tax. (No drinks included) look like a kids meal

Here is a pro tip. Just avoid it. The fried chicken was good. Everything else was less than average, not worth the price. The lady taking orders rang out our order incorrectly. We did get what was entered, but that is not what we asked for. Mac n cheese is not that good Chicken nuggets/bites are not that good The grilled chicken 2 leg and thigh are not that good. The beans were more like chili Again, with all the options, try something else. We just wanted a quick lunch figured we would give this a try. 4 adults

Google
The chicken lives up to the slogan, it was very juicy and had a satisfying crunch to the skin. There's upstairs extra seating, a restroom, and a soda fountain, all good things in my book. I got the 2 piece meal, which comes with a side and a dinner roll, plus a medium fountain drink

Google
The best place to get a delicious chicken sandwich. Super affordable and the staff was so sweet! I went in not knowing what to order and the staff was extremely patient to explain the menu and help me. The food came out hot and quick. 10/10 would definitely recommend !

Excellent fast fried chicken. The campero beans were delicious as well. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Google
I’m glad to see pollo campero up north, here and in NYC. Chicken is good. I’m glad they have a grilled option. Sides r usually good. Especially the platain but they’re very stingy with them. Their jamaican Sorrell drink isn’t good

Yelp
This is one of my favorite chicken sandwich. Seasoned very well. Yucca fries and yellow sauce is delicious. Great customer service. Typical fast food ambiance. Will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Got a 3 mixed grill chicken breast and fried leg and thigh w/ a roll, the breast was a bit burnt from the top but still tasty enough to eat! I sat my self upstairs . They will deliver your food to you as you get assigned seat w/ a number from your server ! I would say they just remolded the entire place, so it looks really nice inside. The Mac and cheese is good . Anyway I be back . For the chicken!

Yelp
Dropped by to get a late lunch/early supper around 4pm today. Plus, came here to get the $5 refillable plastic cup for the forever free drink offer when you buy a $5 St. Jude cup. You can get free drinks (including their in-house drinks and/or soft drinks from the fill-it-yourself soda machine) with the cup. Staff said you must bring the cup with you to get the free drink offer. This cup can be purchased at different Pollo Campero locations like Harlem, Herald Square, and Bryant Park in NYC for example. Ordered a 2-pc meal of fried chicken leg + thigh, mac & cheese for the side, and the tortilla. Probably won't get the tortilla next time because it's very dry overall like the Sahara Desert. Will go with the dinner roll instead. Very fast service from friendly staff. Ambiance wise is like your usual fast food places. Fried chicken is very juicy and flavorful without being too dry. Mac + Cheese is very cheesy and tasty in general. Pretty decently clean restroom for customers. There're wall outlets under the tables. Conveniently located by the B, D, F, M, R, W, Q, N trains.

Yelp
The fried chicken is more exciting than the grilled - secret flavorings on the skin and a juicy interior - but it's cool that they can include both in a combo. Like others in the genre, Pollo Campero could do better on the sides. They were out of the beans so I got cole slaw and mac and cheese. Good beverage choices; I enjoyed jamaica.

Yelp
If you have traveled to a lot of other countries, Pollo Campero may look familiar. It is actually a fast food chain from Guatemala with 130 locations there and 400 locations worldwide. A few things set this place apart from other places. The biggest plus for me is that they offer both fried chicken and roasted chicken, and you can even mix the two in one individual meal. I tried both and they were both excellent. Admittedly, there are places with better fried chicken (like Popeye's) and better roasted chicken (most Peruvian places), but the versions of these two here are still excellent. The fried chicken is very crispy and juicy and the roasted chicken was very juicy as well. In terms of sides, they have some Latin American selections. You can get fried plantains, yuca fries, and beans. I would choose those over the standard sides that you can find anywhere like french fries, coleslaw, or mashed potatoes. For the drink, I recommend the horchata, a rice based drink that's originally from Mexico.

Tim O.

Yelp
Flavorful chicken at a reasonable price, 4 pieces for like $16.25. The portions of the sides are very small compared to competing deli-style spots like Margon or Sophie's. Not really worth the extra walk for me at lunch time but I see the appeal.

Yelp
one of the original Pollo Campero in the city, I recently stopped by on a rainy weekday evening .. Place was empty, upstairs dining room was closed and there was maybe 1-2 employees in the front of the house. I got a refill drink (I love their horchata) and yuca fries (free side offer in their app) which is my favorite side. Portion side was small. More expensive than other Pollo Campero's (ie vs Harlem) and higher than other chicken QSRs. Ordering on App was easy. Staff was friendly. Best sauce is their campero house (ketchup + mayo + other secret stuff). Refill soda and horchata machine.

Yelp
Did not expect it to be this good! I ordered 2 orders of the 2 piece meal. I wanted to have a taste of each kind of chicken. So juicy and flavor didnt miss. The mash potatoes were ok but the mac and cheese is a star side dish. You can see all the spices added into the mac and cheese. The grilled chicken and the fried chicken had a flavor of their own and im not sure which i liked more. Def will keep ordering from here again.

Yelp
Heard so much about this place so tried it for lunch. It was a small place and odd layout. It also was really packed for lunch time. Tried the nuggets and yucca fries it was good. However it's concerning to me as I out my piece of bread from them in my fridge. I forgot about it for some time and weeks later I seen it while cleaning the fridge and it was still in perfect condition. ‍

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Decent food and horchata. The horchata is a little sweet, but not too sweet. There's not really a table service, but the cashier staff was nice and friendly. Ok ambience with some pop songs. Nothing fancy. Clean space.

Yelp
We were walking back from a show to take the Path when we stumbled upon Pollo Campero. We had defrosted chicken in the fridge, but we just had to stop and try it. Pollo Campero IS X's childhood in Guatemala. Every time we're back, he has to have it, sometimes even twice. He's had Pollo Campero in DC, and we know there's one in Sunset Park, but we haven't been yet. Now that this is here, well, he can get his fix. To be fair, we ate it about 30 minutes later after getting home, but it was quite good. I don't think it's better than Jollibee or Bob White in JC, but it's good fried chicken. Very juicy and moist chicken meat. It's definitely not as good as Guate tho, so I do think we'll just have to make the trek back every so often :P

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Pollo Campero for a while based on their reputation in other countries, and I was happy to see that they are on Mealpal. I went to their location near Herald Square and ordered the fried chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese and a chocolate chip cookie. I hate mayonnaise, and I was very happy that the sandwich does not include any mayo. The sandwich is pretty simple, with just chicken and pickles served on a brioche bun. Once I took a bite of the sandwich, I was very impressed. The chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy, and well seasoned, just a very flavourful sandwich. The Mac and cheese was probably the best I've had from a fast food chain. The only letdown was the chocolate chip cookie. It was hard and very dry, just a waste of money and calories. I am looking forward to going back and trying out the meals. The service was efficient, and the cashier spoke English and Spanish. Prices seem to be a bit higher compared to other fast food restaurants, but the quality seems worth it.

Yelp
You know, I liked it. And the flavors in the citrus grilled chicken surprised me. Just a little. I'm not even sure of the story here because I was in such a hurry to get my take out and go. The model is definitely "fast food chicken," offered grilled or fried. There are a limited number of sides including slaw which was all I tried, and while inoffensively edible, was also unoriginal and institutional. Service was a bit slow for a relatively slow post "lunch rush" time. But if I was in the Herald Square area again, I'd certainly consider this for a fast low carb option.

Thomas W.

Yelp
Outstanding fried chicken at a reasonable price. The baked beans are a little spicy and the prices are reasonable although the meals do not include a drink so that is a little deceiving. Fluency in Spanish with the friendly servers and cashiers certainly helps. This place has a fun vibe with good air conditioning for the hot summer. If you love fried chicken this place will not disappoint.

Yelp
My first time here was pretty good, the chicken was juicy. But my second time they gave me old burnt looking chicken. The service was good though, the server gave me a plantain to try. Restaurant was empty at 8pm but cool vibes.

Alex S.

Yelp
Best fast food fried chicken I've ever had, chicken was very juicy and flavorful, I definitely will be going back! The line was long but went by fast

Danny M.

Yelp
Service not great took 15 minutes to get the driest most unflavored salad...14$ for lettuce and a few pieces of dry chicken would not recommend walk the extra block and go to chick-fli-A

Stella A.

Yelp
Finally opening today. I have been waiting for this day. Don't have to take the 7 train to get my chicken. The first time I had was in Guatemala. Now I have one in my hood.

Anthony P.

Yelp
Outstanding new chilcken place, delicious fried chicken options and sides, cooked to perfection. Crispy, juicy fried chicken with a character all it's own. Experience the standout flavor and texture that delivers on it's promise. For lunch this signature sandwich is a great option. Also good for families with many meal combinations. The drinks on tap will quench the thirst, not too salty, just flavor savory and delicious. Nuevo!

Robert C. Y.

Yelp
I tried the chicken sandwich as promised and found it very crispy crusted and moist. I highly recommend it. It was huge and a bit different from Popeyes. Comparo gives you the option for extra pickles and they Come through with true extra (6 pickles) which I really liked. The sauce is different from Popeyes and very good. So, if you are a Popeyes chicken sandwich fan and just want a different taste, this is your go-to. I like the fries better here because I never liked the Cajun seasoned fries at Popeyes. They have yucca fries and plantains here too. No other chicken place I know has them.

Scott C.

Yelp
Hard to find good fried chicken and this place scratches that itch. Grilled chicken available for a lighter option.

Chris S.

Yelp
I've been to the other location on 8th av and was ready to write this place off. I decided to try this location and well, it redeemed Pollo Campero for me. The chicken here is fried hard and crispy. It packed better flavor and crispiness the the 8th av location. The plaintains came out perfect. I was able to get my food very quick. It came about a minute after I paid. I was a little suspicious but everything came out perfect. As always, the real star is the drink selection. There's horchata, jamaica, and mango drink available. Its what kept me coming back to Pollo Campero. As always, my complaint is the pricing. Bottom line, Popeyes and KFC will give you more for less. Still, this location is worth checking out.

Yelp
2nd time I've tried to place a delivery order and have it immediately canceled. Not sure if the days/hours are posted wrong or just not really offering delivery. Wont try again.

Johannes F.

Yelp
I love fried chicken, would consider myself somewhat easy to impress for that reason. This place was nothing to write home about I am afraid though. The chicken was very greasy and soggy, and the side of beans rather generic. Interior is typical fast-food joint. Not horrible, but probably won't go again.

Maribel G.

Yelp
Order their empanadas for a group event and they were way too greasy and had an interesting taste. Wouldn't recommend those to anyone. The fried chicken I hear is better but it is a greasy as well. Popeyes is better if you want this type of fast food.

Steven C.

Yelp
Their service was disgusting and disrespectfully racist... charged me 16.00 for a sandwich and never told me about the promo... until approached by a white patron and they accommodated them and told me I was out of luck

Mya C.

Yelp
So today was my first time at the location and my chicken was cold and they kept forgetting my order!!! I had to go back and forth until my order was right !! They only got a 1 star because they have good French fries

Ninoska F.

Yelp
Me encanta pollo campero desde la primera vez que lo probe
