"There are some things that just need to be good, and not great. We don’t need our chicken shops to have white tablecloths and silverware, and we certainly don’t need our Jason Statham films to have a plot. Polpetto is a little bit like that - it does so many things well that it doesn’t really need to be the best at any one thing. This Italian restaurant in the centre of Soho does small plates like meatballs, tasty little plates of pasta, mini-pizzas, and grilled seafood. The food at Polpetto’s very tasty, and although you might not write a poem about those meatballs later, it’s more than up to the task of making you happy - you’ll slurp down a plate of pappardelle and before you know it, your waiter will place a plate of crispy zucchini fries on the table for you and your mates to demolish. It’s simple and satisfying. The memorable atmosphere is what really brings us back, though. The vibe is all flickering candlelight, wood panelling, and smushed-together tables, creating the sort of intimacy that works well for dates and catch ups over a few negronis. That intimacy is also what makes Polpetto perfect for the sort of evening when you haven’t made plans, everywhere in Soho’s packed, and there’s no way you’re waiting two hours to sit down. It’s often easy to get a table as a walk-in, and it’s saved us more times than we can remember. Make tracks here when you’ll settle for food that’s good, and don’t necessarily need great." - David Paw

Google
Very disappointed with it. Mediocre at most the food was very bland, soggy and deep fried stuff came with no sauce. Focaccia was just normal bread burned on the grill. Very pricey for what it is. Overall 2/5 I would not recommend

Google
Great place, nice atmosphere and value for money Place to share, ideal for a date, they do Italian tapas When I was there James and Dave Franco came for dinner

Google
A great little spot for a nice glass of wine or a cocktail at the front, nicely set up to sit side by side facing or at the bar, or table seating at the back if you want to dine. We just availed ourselves of the (7days a week) 4-6pm offer of £5 negronis with nibbles (truffle crisps were delicious!)

Best Italian restaurant in London so far. The linguine with crab was excellent and the staff very professional. I can really recommend this restaurant.

Google
Wonderful Italian 'plates' and a great house white wine. Thank you for such an enjoyable meal almost in the centre of Soho!

Not to my liking. Some dishes were great while others were a miss.

Google
Great place for lunch! I had my favourite spaghetti with clams! Delicious. If there was one slight criticism there was a bit too much garlic. Lovely family run restaurant in a it a road right near the theatre's and seafront. Next time we'll come for dinner. Thanks!

Yelp
Oh my gosh. You guys. Polpetto is so good. Here's why: 1) the food is absolutely delicious. This is pretty important with any restaurant. The portions are small (but not too small- very good for sharing) so it's tapas style and they bring them out as they are ready. My favourite was the octopus skewers- we ordered a second one because they were so good. Juicy flavourful octopus with a decent crunch on the outside- but not fried, just incredibly grilled. The veggies were even bangin on that skewer. The crab linguine was also a win, and so were the mussels. 2) the decor is delightful. Just look at the pic I posted of the menu with the flowers and bar in the background. For goodness sake look at the pretty lights with the cloth covering them! So cute! And the ceiling! The ceiling is even lovely! 3) the price is great. Small dishes should be not terribly expensive because you're buying multiple. They range from £3-7 or 8, which ain't bad. 4) the service is very good. We are the type that ordered a few dishes and then keep ordering, so we need checking on and they are very on it. They even brought multiple bottles of water which was appreciated. 5) it's called polpetto. I love the name and so should you. Yay.

Yelp
My friend and I ate and drank here last night. We got the £5 drinks as part of the happy hour (4-6pm). The Cynar Gin Fizz was ace- the alcohol blend was subtle and strong- and she enjoyed her Negronis. We got the beetroot aracini which looks like a red energy ball and tastes like corn. I couldn't detect the mozzarella inside but my friend could. Either way it was dense but yet crumbly upon biting in and tasted very good. I also got the shrimp and capers pizzette which is a decent size; thin crust which I liked but such tiny, tiny shrimp dotted atop I was disappointed. The pizza also had a subtle fishy taste which I found odd but maybe bc of the capers? Either way I ate it all! Finally I got the broccoli with feta but this was a disappointment. The broccoli was very bland itself. My friend's zucchini fries though were lovely- crispy with a rich oily flavour. I might return just for the burrata and cauliflower- not to mention the cocktails! Service was overall very pleasant and somewhat attentive.

Yelp
Solid Venetian style small plates with a relaxed vibe and reasonable pricing. Totally get why this spot got a Michelin bib gourmand this year. Sat at the bar and ordered a glass of the montepulciano. Loved that it was served in a small water glass and was basically overflowing! Ordered the burrata with pickled squash and arugula, which winded up being a bit larger than I thought but no complaints there. Also ordered the grilled octopus served with grilled fennel and pearl onions. Wish there was a bit more octopus as it was cooked perfectly. Lastly got the rigatoni with beef shin ragu. I was most excited for this plate and it was a bit disappointing. Not a ton of flavor and wish there was a sauce base to the ragu instead of just the meat. Almost tasted like a beef stew on top of pasta.

Yelp
Just the most wonderful atmosphere. Came here by myself mid afternoon for a drink and a snack and absolutely loved it. Rhubarb and basil spritz was fantastic

Yelp
Polpetto has a great vibe. My friend and I were seated in a little 'booth', these little alcoves they had created in the main dining room. So great for an intimate meal! And I love the way their bar stools fold away. Not really necessary but a nice design touch nonetheless. Ok, so foodwise: everything was tasty. The highlight by far was the white sprouting broccoli with anchovies and shaved Parmesan. The creamy dressing was a perfect foil for the slightly crunchy veg and tart anchovies. I could have easily eaten a large plate of this. Everything else was good: Lamb tongue on sliced tomato and elderberry capers. Very tasty and a nice, more adventurous dish to try. Beef shin ragu with homemade pasta was lovely. Melt in your mouth beef with al dente pasta topped with a pile of Parmesan cheese. Very yummy. Burrata was very creamy. It was good but I would probably order something else instead next time Focaccia was perfectly grilled. I'm not a massive bread person and we got it for the burrata. I think it's unnecessary unless you really I've bread or need it to pair with one of the dishes 50cl of Negroarnaro Salento red wine was tasty Meal came to £64, including service Definitely will come back again!!

Yelp
We randomly walked past this incredibly cute restaurant, and decided to give it a try on our anniversary! The ambience is certainly 5* that's if you're into the cozy with a hint of trendy vibe. The food was 5* too with very reasonable prices. We ordered the warm duck salad, kale salad, octopus skewers, prosciutto pizza, salmon tartare and all were fantastic. I'd especially recommend the duck and octopus. With two glasses of prosecco and a carafe of red, our bill was only about £73.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to walk in with only a 15 minute wait for a table. Just enough time for a cocktail starter! The menu is small plate designed, which are a good size, not tapas, but more generous. The food is really interesting and a challenge for some of us, for example the wet polenta is not a texture most of us are used to for dinner. The burnt butter bread that seems to be a bit of a signature of the place is pretty interesting, as a crouton in a great salad with white broccoli stems and anchovies. My favourite was the beef shin strozapretti, really well cooked and fantastic flavour. Wine choice was so excellent and a fantastic accompaniment to the meal. I've wanted to visit this place for a while and having been, I'm glad I have.

Yelp
If I lived in London, I would come to Polpetto basically daily. Definitely get there a bit early and be prepared to hang out and have a beer before you get seated (since the place is small and is super popular), but it's not bad. Once you get a table, go to town. Literally order a ton of things and share because they're all so good. Highlights for me are the Prosciutto/Rocket flatbread, the soft shell crab, the warm duck salad, and the beef/pork meatballs. If you want to see other things that are delicious, just read the menu. That is a list of delicious things. Enjoy! I'm so jealous of you. Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Value: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Yelp
When I found this Italian restaurant , I was very excited to try most of the tapas plates. Below you can find details about the dishes I ordered. Anchovies bruschetta - Crazy salt, the only thing I can taste is salt Meatballs - Dry and not at all seasoned Pizza with Prosciutto- Again no flavor other than prosciutto Chicken salad with rocket: No taste, even salt and pepper was not in it. I am giving one star only for the service as the server was courteous enough.

Yelp
We came to Polpetto with our friends for a weekend lunch since we have heard so many great things about the food. Happy to say they were right! I really enjoyed the wet polenta, beef shin and the kohlrabi fish dish. Make sure to order at least 2 plates per person as the portion sizes are not big. Coffee also tastes great, I ordered a cappuccino and the taste was very smooth!

Gabi G.

Yelp
Polpetto is a small tapas-restaurant. Has a prticular minimal style, not to many seating so hard to find a table available. The dishes are small so I would suggest to order quite a few. The zucchini are fabulous; a bit expensive the cocktails for the small glasses you get.

Melissa R.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite places in London. We loved the small plate concept. Everything we tasted was full of flavor and the service was excellent. The pork and beef meatballs were outstanding - coming from an Italian family, I have pretty high standards for meatballs and these were just as tasty as my mom's. The margarita pizza was great, and so was the Calamari and the ricotta crostini with pea and asparagus. We definitely recommend finishing off the meal with the Nutella pizza.

Yelp
Lovely accommodation for vegans. I had the best cup of tea here too! Wait staff is helpful and nice.

Natalie W.

Yelp
Polpetto is one of many London restaurants with obnoxiously long wait times (no reservations) and obnoxiously uncomfortable waiting areas. On a Friday night at 7pm, expect to wait 90 minutes for a table for four. We enjoyed a couple of decent negronis while waiting and then got to sit in a nice booth for our meal. As there were four of us we ordered nearly everything off the menu. I particularly enjoyed the white sprouting broccoli which had a lot going on (Ada C's review describes it better than I could, in fact her review is spot on in general!) and the outstanding pork belly - it was really melt in the mouth. The beef shin and jersey potatoes were also worth ordering, as were the fried onions which were really cool and surprised everyone. I thought I wouldn't like the lamb tongue (I don't even like lamb that much) but ended up cleaning the plate. The ravioli wasn't an easy dish to share and to be honest only two night later I can't really remember it so it can't have been incredible, but I do seem to remember enjoy it at the time! The burrata I didn't get that much of but I would prefer a slightly firmer cheese; the foccacia we had with it was absolutely delicious though. I didn't really like the beetroot puree thing - I'd rather it be more sour - but everyone else did so that's just personal taste. We ordered desserts (I would rather have had more pork belly, the most delicious dessert of all) and I didn't think any of the ones of the menu were that great but the special rhubarb sorbet was absolutely fantastic, potentially my favourite sorbet of all time. Wine wise we had a really delicious verdicchio de castelli di jesi - not a wine I've tried before but I definitely will again! Overall if I came back here I would rather come with just one other person. Although you'd be able to try less dishes I think you would get to enjoy more of the good ones. Also your wait time will be significantly less!

Yelp
Cozy atmosphere. Not too big and not too small. Has the chicken pasta. Pasta had good flavor. Chicken was tasteless and rubbery. Staff at bar friendly enough but could care less about asking if there is anything else you need, how is the food, etc. With all the eating options nearby, would check out other places.

Yelp
We had been to the old Polpetto on Dean Street, but for some reason hadn't left a review. We were looking for a place just like that for a nice relaxing dinner on Friday night and found the same still in Soho. It was like visiting an old friend, but there were changes in the layout. Trendier. The dishes were simple and tasty and we had an enjoyable night out. We really enjoy the idea of getting half a dozen small dishes that we can share between us. We selected a nice range of dishes and drank our way through a bottle of prosecco (and a cheeky extra 500ml later on). Dishes consumed: Bloater - puréed smoked fish served with generous slices of fresh fennel. A good match and I liked the texture of the bloater. I mopped up the remainder with bread. Scallops - they were nicely fried and came with cauliflower puree and fried thin pieces of cauliflower. The scallops had lardo on top, just pure fat but melted on the tongue and went with the scallop well. Chicken oysters. These came with bellotti beans and watercress. It was nice, but not spectacular. Actually I preferred the wet polenta which came out at the same time and was nearly a third of the price. Such a simple dish but we kept coming back for more. I need to learn how to prepare this at home. Burrata. I have had this before at another restaurant, but here it was creamier and I really enjoyed it. It came with chilli, but I didn't really notice the hotness. For dessert, we ordered 3 dishes - the rhubarb with yoghurt and crumble, the green apple sorbet and the maple tart. The first two were delicious and I loved the flavours. Unfortunately for us, the maple tart wasn't ready and it took too long to set even though we waited extra time for it. The lady at the counter knew our predicament and she gave us regular updates, but it just took longer than they thought. We may just have to try it next time. I'm sure we will be back. Great service and good conversation. We felt welcomed. They answered our amateur questions about ingredients on the menu (even though they probably get the same questions all the time). We liked spying on the dishes of our fellow diners and speculating what they were. This is a popular place, so you really need to go early to be confident of getting a seat. Else, you should be prepared to wait for space to free up.

Yelp
Order the menu, except the harshly pickled carrots if they're schlepping those again. I have been fortunate enough to have dinner here twice in the past month, both times four of us in the party. So seriously, if there are four of you, the menu of sharing plates and sides is perfect. Assuming you're awesome and have a healthy appetite. If you're even more hardcore than me, then you might get the whole dessert menu as well. Stars of the show: beetroot purée with lovely toasted focaccia duck breast and blueberry salad lamb pappardelle maple tart Friendly, though slow, service. Go whilst in a chill mood.

Yelp
My god was I dissapointed with Polpetto. I'm not sure whether I lost all hope when the hare arrived full of bones and thus inedible, or at the tomatoes dish, which, I kid you not, consisted of four cherry tomatoes cut in half. The rest of the dishes were average and very overpriced. You have amazing options in this area; please don't waste your money here.

Yelp
I loved the old Polpetto. Up the flights of stairs above the French House you walked in to an inmate small space with a vibe and some edge. When I was walking to the "new" Polpetto I saw the windows with the lace curtains and thought "Polpo". You walk in and see the bar and the layout and the furniture and you think "Polpo". Where is the uniqueness of Polpetto? That excitement and different vibe that you feel at Spuntino? Not there. The menu had some hits. Hits were the cavolo nero with anchovies which has a Caesar salad feel to it. Really tasty. Another tasty dish was the creamy burrata with chili. Very good I'd say for the papardelle with boar I think it was and the scallops. Misses were some type of pickled veg (I want to say parsley root0 we had at the beginning. I just feel like this is been there done that in the Polpo playbook. I expect with a new restaurant opening for Russell Norman to raise his game and not rest on his laurels.

Tony J.

Yelp
What a strange place. Before I say anything else never ever let them seat you downstairs. You'd be in a vestibule in front of the toilets and looking into the kitchen. The service was pretty good (except for one person telling us we were "wrong" when we all told her that the aircon was intermittently blasting us with cold then hot air). But the main issue I have with this place is the menu. You simply cannot tell what you are going to end up with. One of our friends ended up with two bowls of what can only be described as babyfood. I did slightly better with the one thing I felt I could happily eat off the menu - but I've cooked much better rigatoni myself to be frank. A serious disappointment. Style over substance. There are many better places within minutes of the restaurant.

Oliver Z.

Yelp
Perfect food, very tasty, kind of tapas in Italy. You need to try various dishes. They are all delicious! The service was perfect. Value for money is, compared to other locations in London really good. Come in and enjpy!

Una M.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Ordered soft shell crab which just tasted of very oily batter, the celeriac and wild mushroom was bland and not very warm and the Special aubergine and pepper Pizzetta turned out to be 8 TINY cubes each of raw aubergine and pepper stranded on a mass of bland melted cheese. Scallops were ok and only redeeming dish. Service attentive. But tasteless, unappetising looking food at inflated prices.

David F.

Yelp
Greeted warmly on a Saturday night. All the tourists were in Trafalgar Square and soho wasn't too crowded. Sat at the bar where Becky is in control. Nice wine selection by the glass and carafe. Had octopus plate and then pork belly. Both outstanding. Watched Becky make whiskey sour, Manhattan and Bloody Mary. All expertly crafted and I bet they taste as good as the food
