Best Restaurants on South First in Austin | Eater Austin

"For Mexican and Tex-Mex along South First, this restaurant is the answer, full of tacos, migas, enchiladas, and margaritas, especially when enjoyed out on the patio. There are Favor deliveries, and there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Nadia Chaudhury

Best Aguas Frescas in Austin | Eater Austin

"Round out orders of the Mexican restaurant’s tortas with its aguas frescas, such as sandía, cantaloupe, and lime, as per the business recommendations, but also the drinks work well with the rest of the menu, too. There are two other locations, one in downtown and the other at the Barton Creek Square Mall. Favor delivery orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Darcie Duttweiler

Austin Tex-Mex Restaurant Polvo’s Is Opening in Barton Creek Square Mall - Eater Austin

"Turns out Austin Tex-Mex mini-chain Polvo’s is opening a third location sometime this year. The new restaurant is found within the Barton Creek Mall at 2901 South Capital of Texas Highway, Building 7 in southeast Austin. Further details aren’t known at this point. The first location of Polvo’s opened on South First in 1997. Then there was one up in Wells Branch in 2012, but it closed in 2021. That was followed by the downtown location in 2018." - Nadia Chaudhury

Started with a draft Modelo and a shot of Avion Reserva Cristalino and the Caldo de Pollo. Followed by the Steak Polvos (cooked medium). Caldo fresh, beer cold and Avion very smooth. Steak cooked perfect. They really knocked out of the park marinating out in Pico de Gallo. Servers Miriam and Olivia were excellent. Ensured my glass was full, food exceeded expectations, and if I needed anything. Top notch service. Amazing atmosphere. Great food. Cold beer.

My husband and I were looking for a breakfast place. By the time we actually made it out of the house it was more like lunch time. We came to Polvos in Barton Creek Square Mall because we saw it couple of times on our shopping trips to the Saturday farmer market. It was 11:30am when we came in and there were maybe three tables occupied. The waitress gave us a lunch menu (but later when we mentioned that we stumbled onto this place in search of breakfast she told us that they serve breakfast as well). We had ‘Cocktail Merisco’ and ‘Phalla’s salad with fajita chicken’ and both were very tasty. Our waitress, Miriam, was very courteous, checked on us couple of times, but was not overbearing. This unexpected find will be on our list of ‘to go to’ restaurants.

This place feels like if you asked AI to generate a Tex Mex restaurant for you. The interior design is off, they bring you chips but you have to go to a salsa bar with 3 options to get your salsa, the cocktails are overpriced, and the food was way over-seasoned to the point where we just left after a few bites. Our server David was great though! Super helpful and nice. He asked us how our food was and why we didn't want to go boxes when we asked for our check. He was super apologetic and mentioned he'd notify the manager and kitchen about the over-seasoning.

Such good food and the salsa buffet is my favorite, they have about 4 different salsas to try. I had the street tacos and they were delicious! Adding on a Mexican martini was obviously extra but you get it in a shaker so it's worth the price!

Hands down the best Mexican restaurant I’ve tried in Austin while visiting from San Diego. It’s extremely clean, well lit, great atmosphere and extremely good food quality with big portions! Margarita flights were 5 star!

Great spot for every occasion. This particular location is in a great spot. The restaurant is big with plenty of parking. The architecture of the building is stunning and makes it look expensive, but it's not. The only service failure they have is their bar. It was slow and always behind, at least while I was there (Wednesday night). The food is great; salsa bar is the best thing they have. More than 6 different salsas to taste, and you can have as much as you want. The plates are spectacular and well plated, and the portions are big. Flavor is definitely there. If you like Chile rellenos, then you should try theirs, very unique. Everything I tried was good and flavorful; Rellenos, street tacos, chile con carne, and asado puerco. Price was just what I expected. The average plate is about $20-25$ so you will end up spending about $50+ per person with drinks. I ordered tacos and 3 cocktail drinks. Overall true authentic mexican food, presentation and atmosphere. Will be back again soon. For the record, I would've given them 5 start but the bar was slower than usual. Server was great!

So very disappointed on in my first visit to Polvos on Capital of Texas Hwy. I went with a group of women professionals, business owners, and ladies very involved in the community. We were a large party of about 40-45 ladies. The restaurant did not have enough servers to accommodate the whole restaurant. They had only 2. This party was booked in advance. They had only one bartender on site and the drink orders were just too much for him to handle. He was very rude and honestly could just not handle the work himself. He charged a friend the credit card fee when she paid for her drink. She paid cash. She asked him why he was charging her the extra credit card fee, and he said it doesn’t matter he charges everyone, regardless of credit or cash . There was also no manager on site during our service. You would think that with a large party, and only two servers, there would be a manager on site. The acting manager did not show up until after the dinner service. Be very careful if you book a party with this restaurant. We were told that a $200 deposit would be deducted from the bill, only to be told that the $200 was for a rental room fee. I was so looking forward to having the party here, and it just turned into a big old mess. Once again, get everything that they are promising in writing, and make sure that you are told that the credit card fee at the bar is charged on all drinks even if you pay in cash. Will not be returning.

Love! Hands down the best veggie quesadilla I’ve ever had. Salsa bar can’t be beat, gorgeous space inside & out and super friendly service. Highly recommend!
