Best Restaurants on South First in Austin | Eater Austin

"For Mexican and Tex-Mex along South First, this restaurant is the answer, full of tacos, migas, enchiladas, and margaritas, especially when enjoyed out on the patio. There are Favor deliveries, and there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Nadia Chaudhury

Best Aguas Frescas in Austin | Eater Austin

"Round out orders of the Mexican restaurant’s tortas with its aguas frescas, such as sandía, cantaloupe, and lime, as per the business recommendations, but also the drinks work well with the rest of the menu, too. There are two other locations, one in downtown and the other at the Barton Creek Square Mall. Favor delivery orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Darcie Duttweiler

Austin Tex-Mex Restaurant Polvo’s Is Opening in Barton Creek Square Mall - Eater Austin

"Turns out Austin Tex-Mex mini-chain Polvo’s is opening a third location sometime this year. The new restaurant is found within the Barton Creek Mall at 2901 South Capital of Texas Highway, Building 7 in southeast Austin. Further details aren’t known at this point. The first location of Polvo’s opened on South First in 1997. Then there was one up in Wells Branch in 2012, but it closed in 2021. That was followed by the downtown location in 2018." - Nadia Chaudhury

This place is great, my boyfriend and I come here every few weeks and it gets tastier each time. Nice atmosphere, AMAZING self serve salsa bar with the best carrots mm, like honestly this place is underrated! I wouldn’t even change anything about each dish, even the beans are good!! Our server today was Victor and he was very personable, friendly and professional. Ps the churros unbelievable

I had the street tacos, barbacoa and pastor. They were delicious just right amount of stuff on top. The sauces were good, I asked a hotter version delicious. The place nice it has an open feel to it. Definitely worth coming back.

Went with a large group but We reserved our table so they knew we were coming. Food was actually good BUT experience was really bad. 1.5 hours from sit down to food service. During that time, waiter was nowhere to be found, communication was poor, order was mishandled. Now if it was busy, maybe acceptable but the place was empty (see pic). At one point when 4 people had been served, we waited more 10 minutes for the next group. During that time the staff was seen goofing around at the bar. We spent a lot of money and deserved better treatment.

It's a crime that Polvos doesn't have a 5⭐️ rating. From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out… You could feel the energy in this place. It came through in the food, the music, and the team members waiting at the tables. I absolutely love this place. The taco bar is phenomenal and specifically the jalapeño salsa is delicious. I ordered the beef fajita quesadillas and they were delicious. When we return to town, we will be back.

An Amazing Experience — Above & Beyond Service! We recently hosted our baby shower at Polvos, and I cannot say enough about how incredible the experience was! From start to finish, the staff was professional, attentive, and accommodating. They truly made us feel at home and helped make our event so special—going well beyond what we expected. A special shoutout to our attendant, David, who was phenomenal to work with. He seamlessly coordinated with our outside vendor and was always one step ahead—constantly checking in, making sure we and our guests felt welcomed and cared for. The entire team was so polite, friendly, and eager to help with anything we needed. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. The facilities were beautiful, clean, and well-organized—the decor even complemented our event theme perfectly. What truly stood out was the genuine care and attention to detail: they brought out plates and utensils for our cakes without us even having to ask, offered knives to help us serve, and were always ready to lend a hand before we even realized we needed one. I can’t thank the team at Polvos enough for making our celebration so memorable. Hands down, this was some of the best customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. We will definitely be back for future events. Highly recommend!

To whom all don't want to get ripped off, I rarely leave negative reviews, but the service at Polvos Barton Creek, was truly unacceptable. From the moment we walked in there was no welcoming greeting, the A/C in the place was not on, the staff seemed uninterested and inattentive. We waited over 15 minutes just to be acknowledged, and even longer for someone to take our order, the server David was okay once we finally got to him. As David took our order, he seemed to not know the menu as he should have since he was a server, but with all the other issues my whole entire party had I'll let him slide. He took our order, and I had asked for sweet tea as I saw they served it on the menu; he went to go get drinks and came back and told me they didn't have any. He still charged me for it as you can see on my receipt as I will attach it to this wonderful review. So, after my entire party of 3 adult and 3 kids under the age of 12 were done ordering, the food runner ends up bringing out the food and has the audacity to set the tray of food on the table and begins to hand it out (that is against health code). After all the food is done, I asked for the check so I could split my food from the rest and David says that they can't split checks with more than 6 people, remind you it was only 3 adults, so I said okay, and gave him the card, I asked to speak with a manager to let him know about the service and wanted to know why we were being charged to use my own debit card with a fee of $3.70 and why David auto grated me a 20% without it being posted anywhere, because I was going to give him a $35.00 tip when he brought the receipt back. So, since he wanted only a $24.67 tip that's what he got. Now, back to the manager when he came over to my table and talked to me, he made some rude comments and had an attitude like he didn't care. He made the comment to me that I needed to communicate with him, isn't that what I was doing when I called you over. Also, this place advertises to be a full-service restaurant, but you have to get up and get your own salsa. Jokes!!!!! It felt like they just didn’t care about their customers at all. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. With so many better options out there, I won’t be returning — and I suggest others think twice before dining here and don't forget to BRING CASH!!!!! Sincerely, The guy with 3 enchiladas with no rice and beans for a total of $23.97 for the plate.

Delicious food and drinks with a variety for everyone. An Austin institution in my honest opinion. Thanks Polvos! ❤️

Ordered this on DoorDash for pickup their doordash menu is so disorganized. Portions are small $22 for the enchiladas pictured. Enchiladas are just ok. The “refried beans” are like watery soup and did not see a frying pan. Also how do you give black beans WITHOUT saying that. Refried beans are pinto unless you say otherwise. The beans taste like they have no spices. I ordered 3 flour tortillas. Received 2 flour and two corn tortillas. Which are all undercooked. I Do not recommend this place.
