"After rumors circulated of a permanent closure, Pompei’s Grotto manager Michael Carden has told the San Francisco Chronicle that it does, in fact, plan to reopen next month. He aims to open the 75-year-old seafood restaurant sometime in June." - Becky Duffett

This nice little restaurant called my attention for it design and the clam chowder price. I got the $6 one which is smaller than the regular one for $13. It was very tasty. If you are not too hungry you should stop here. I am giving four stars because table service could have taken less longer. Finally, the special part of our visit is that is was a calm and relaxing place to eat.

I had the Captain's platter, and it was really good! The scallops and snapper were perfect, though the calamari and fries were crispier than I prefer, hence the 4 star rating. I would definitely eat here again. The staff were all super friendly and attentive. I'd give them 5 stars for service.

They had a great class chowder in a sourdough bread bowl special going on. Only $5! Which makes one of the famous San Francisco dishes very affordable. The food was very good. The other prices are kinda high, but they do have a kids menu for the little ones which includes a drink and a dessert. It's a place we go to every time we visit, and will definitely return!

We scored some sort of lunchtime deal, which made the whole thing great, basically cutting the cost in close to half. Fish and chips were pretty good, and a reasonable portion size. Bread bowl chowder was okay, mostly bread, not so much chowder, but a deal I guess for the price. If I'd been paying regular prices though, this would lose a few stars. Service was okay.

Very pricey, but the food was delicious! The best fish and chips I've ever had! The bloody Mary's looked great, but I've had better so don't waste your money on those 😉 All in all, it's a quaint little place with indoor and outdoor sidewalk seating. I would definitely come back for the food!

Walking by on a hot September afternoon and saw a sign advertising Happy Hour with decent pricing and what looked to be a good selection of Appies, not to mention that the outdoor patio was very enticing. Drinks were $5 and snacks $5-$7. We were surprised at how wonderful the service was friendly, attentive and efficient. The water glasses were never empty. Ordered wine, bruschetta and fish tacos. It was such delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere that we had more wine and then tried the mussels. Great value for the price paid. All the other meals around us looked equally delicious. Keep up the good work, will definitely return on our next visit to this gorgeous city!

Unimpressive, nice from the outside, but service wasn't all that. We waited for a long time for our order to be taken, and then for our food to arrive. Food was good. But they had a sign outside $5.00 for clam chowder and the waiter never mentioned it, and we ordered clam chowder and were charged the original price. Been to better places in San Francisco.

Good food and service but a little pricey (understandable at the wharf). Their alcoholic mixed drinks were really good and they even have vegan and vegetarian flexible dishes! I had the salmon BLT which was surprising and the coleslaw was a little zesty. As others mentioned, there is a $15 minimum/person so be aware if you are only looking at small dishes!
