Pompette Wine Shop

Was just in the store - got two pet nats and a chillable Gamay ... I love this wine store and the two gentlemen who were working today are awesome!! I wish I needed more help because I know they would have been able to help me find what I needed. Love you guys! Thanks!!

Good store. Nice people. Good wines. Selection is not wide but it's high quality. Stays open til 9, 7 days. Expensive as far as I can tell but that's anecdotal as I haven't actually compared prices for specific bottles. This is a place for getting a high quality bottle when it matters - probably not a place I would shop for daily, at home bottles. Their adjoining restaurant is good. I'll review it separately.

The BEST small high-end wine shop in Harlem. By far. I love the selection and I love the staff. They’re super helpful and lovely people to talk to. It’s my go to shop. They’ve got a great website and will also deliver quickly if you call. I’ve literally made friends on the subway just by seeing and connecting over our Pompette Wine bags lol this is a beautiful little neighborhood shop for wine enthusiasts but also with great knowledge if you’re just dipping your toe into the wine and spirits water. Also love when they have liquor and wine reps come in and educate on their stock.

There are alot of pictures of the location already so I decided to mention my experience instead. Nice setup and decor. The wines are laid out nicely without being on top of each other. There was a nice variety from around the world. The customer was excellent. I was looking for a non sweet and not too dry wine and a worker suggested a fruity Portuguese wine. Excellent choice. The girl that helped me was one point with her suggestion. (so sorry I forgot your name, update when I get back). Fiuza Alvarinho white wine 2017 (Description- Lemon color with green tinges. Aroma of tropical fruits and citrus flowers). I know sounds good especially after breaking my 3 week internment fasting. I also, picked up a locally founded Harlem and made in Brooklyn liquor Absinthe the green. Haven't tried it but yet let's see how that goes.

Tasty and fresh wine. There is an elevator which leads to an unknown area, I saw a group of men fancily dressed on it. They allowed me to take a nice photo but I wonder where that leads to? Anyways, great service and wine all through out.

Very cute spot. Good wine selection. Very reasonably priced. Incredibly helpful and patient staff- a pleasure to visit and interact with. Highly recommend.

Great little wine shop I stumbled upon on my walk. They have a great selection with a range of prices. The gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable and helpful and I ended up picking up a rosé and moscato to take home and try out. If your in the area be sure to stop by to grab a bottle for yourself, to take to dinner or gift a bottle to a friend. Thank you guys for a great experience! can't wait to come back and try out a few more from your selection.

Pompette is the wine shop of my dreams. Well-sized and stocked, they have a great selection of wines and an even greater staff who can help select when you're not sure what you want but know you love a red or need something for a party (or debate watching). Pompette has fast become my go-to wine shop, it's a great local gem!

This was my first time here. AHmazing little wine shop. I didn't walk around because I ordered from the app went in and bags were waiting with my name and walked out! I had a quick chat because they forgot two of my wine bottles. They were very apologetic and it wasn't a big deal. All in all yes I will be back. The Bordeaux was delicious!

Before I moved to the neighborhood I had been by a couple times and loved their wine tastings, friendly and warm service and selection of wines and spirits. I bought my grandfather a rum from El Salvador with the suggestion of the tasting host and it was delicious! At that moment I knew I'd be back. Now I live in the neighborhood and cherish this shop so much. Moving from West to East Harlem is a bit of a transition. I have yet to visit any liquor shops where the staff is friendly or even where I could grab the bottle myself. While I wish I could find everyday favorites at Pompette I love their unique and carefully curated selection. It's not overwhelming, the staff will help even if they are just there for the tasting and it doesn't break your pockets. I know I will frequent Pompette a couple times a month and hope they keep the same warm demeanor over time!

The store is extremely clean and welcoming. The array of wine available is tremendous and the owner, Mozel, is quite knowledgeable of his wine. I've witnessed him rattle off the flavors and names of wine like it's second nature to him. If you have children, there is a small table set up with markers and paper where they can draw and the drawing is placed on the wall to your left when you walk in. I also love this place because it is black owned. Let's continue to put money into our communities by supporting black owned businesses!

My favorite Wine Shop in Harlem. There is an amazing young man there who always helps me pick out my wine when I am being super indecisive lol. Great prices, great selections. So glad I found them on Yelp when I first moved to Harlem. I recommend their wine tastings, some times there is vodka!

I love this wine shop and I always recommend it to my Harlem friends. They have weekly tastings, events, and even cool spotting of influencers and celebs. It's kind of the wine shop to visit if you're in Harlem, especially on a Thursday night. Their variety of wine and other spirits is also a reason to visit. They're often adding new things and switching out the old. Mozel and co also shows great pride in being a staple in this / his community. I love love love that this is my local shop and I hope everyone who reads this signs up for their mailing list...they send out great gifs lol.

This is my favorite wine shop! The staff is so cool and helpful. Every time I go in, I'm greeted with a smile. I really like that they don't hound you here. They let you do your thing but are quick to help when you ask. Their selection of wine is out of sight. So many great different choices. My favorite French Malbec is sold here too! I can really tell that they put a lot of thought into the wine they order for their customer. They've got me hooked and have my loyalty!

Came here last weekend to pick up a red and white wine for a party I was going to. Staff was friendly, helpful, and even poured me a healthy glass of wine to taste. Unfortunately, I was in a rush so I didn't get a chance to really take everything in but at quick glance their appearance and selection seems legit. Will definitely be back there some time in the very near future.

Really nice wine shop just off Lenox at 131st. I was visiting a family member who lives a block or two away and was put in charge of wine for group dinner and was sent here. No corporate generic wines to be found, nope! An excellent collection of carefully curated bottles. We were having Paella and I was looking for some lighter reds like garnacha/grenache. I spotted a French Pinot, which I grabbed and asked about any Spanish garnacha. The owner said that they didn't have any 100% Garnacha but pointed me to a Garnacha/Syrah blend (85/15%). I then found it's French Ventoux cousin and walked out with three bottles. All about $15, all delicious and all appreciated by the guests. Great spot!

I love wine and love this place even more. Definitely a Harlem gem. At the store, it's very well organized, staff is incredibly helpful and they always have great wines being featured. They also enforce only a few people at a time in the store to making shopping safe. I order from the app practically every weekend and my delivery is always on time and never have any issues. So happy to have discovered this place. I had a few wine subscription boxes which I cancelled because I prefer getting my wines from here. So long story short, check them out!

This specialized wine shop is a great addition to this part of Harlem. Pompette is a little hidden away on a cross street right off of Lenox. The shop itself is pretty large and has a lot of options at different price points. The staff is incredibly helpful, willing to answer questions and give their opinions and I've tried a lot of new wines because of it. Pompette also does a lot of great events and tastings as well. I got to sample Titus Burgess' Pinot Noir with him there!

Love this wine shop, it always delivers when I am in a pinch, looking for a special gift or trying out a new cocktail. I am especially happy to support this black owned business during this really difficult time! The staff is very knowledgeable and courteous!

I needed a gift delivered in the neighborhood, and within half an hour Pompette had the bottles I chose wrapped and at my friend's door. Doesn't get much better or easier than that!

Amazing customer service! I'm always greeted and asked if I need any help. The recommendations are always on point! This place is a little further away from my house, but would much rather go here than my local wine store.

He's always helpful, always on point with recommendations, always knowledgeable about the right wine or spirit for the right occasion. Whether it's a super dry, refreshing rose wine in the summer or a nice bottle of bourbon to bring to a party, Pompette has what you need. Go there and support local business. His prices beat all the big games I've seen in town--this place is everything you'd want a wine and spirits shop to be.

I went in disposed to like the place. I have lived in Harlem for 13 years and like to support neighborhood businesses over big discount stores. At first glance, they played cool music and seemed to have an interesting selection of wines and spirits, attractive displays, and nice lighting. But the person behind the counter stayed behind the counter, chatting with a couple of people who were sitting in the shop and greeting others who poked their heads in the door. Knowledgeable? Hard to say. He never once inquired what I was looking for or offered to show me around. Helpful? Definitely not. When I asked whether they carried a particular kind of wine, he politely directed me toward the appropriate shelf but made no attempt to help me with my selection, not even "let me know if you have any questions." I picked up a Cab-Franc-Merlot and a Cab-Shiraz Merlot and compared their labels. I eyed the Botanical Gin with curiosity. No interest from the guy. Meanwhile, the volume of the music was turned up to a level where I could not simply ask him a question from 8 feet away but would have had to go back to the counter and lean in. So ... the impression given was that here was a young hipster for whom "being at work" meant chilling in a pleasant environment listening to some tunes, who was remarkably unmotivated when it came to the actual business of selling wine. Or perhaps he decided I did not fit the profile of a new customer the shop would be interested in acquiring. I put my potential purchases back and said "thank you" and "goodbye" on my way out the door, but I guess he didn't hear me over the music, because he did not respond.

Very nice atmosphere. Excellent customer service...I'll definitely shop there again. I ended up getting a red sweet wine...I'll try it soon.

Best wine store in the area!!! Adorably decorated and helpful, caring staff. They have wine tastings from time to time. Check it out whenever you're needing some vino!!!

This is an updated review as of 12/2016: the manager responded by sending us a number of bottles of wine and apologizing profusely. We feel good about that and continue to order from them. Despite one time When we were given the wrong order and had to wait another hour to get the correct wine, it's been a great experience. We have loved this place ever since they opened. We have two small children, and having wine delivered makes our lives so much easier. Tonight we had a really disappointing experience. We ordered two bottles of wine at 7 PM. It's now 10 PM and they are still not here. We were already charged for the bottles. I called at 8 and was told the delivery person was almost here; that he had taken 10 deliveries at once, which is why it was taking so long. I called at 9 and they were closed, with a full voicemail box. We are now wine-less and sad. So hoping they make amends for this so that we can continue enjoying our neighborhood wine shop!

This Wine Shop is the best thing that has happened to me in quite some time. I came here 3 or 4 days in a row while visiting my friend who lives directly across the street from the shop. She was in there chatting with the owner and his friend when I walked in and she introduced me. The guys were so delightful! They were very knowledgeable about their products and gave us excellent advice about which wine to purchase. Their recommendations were fantastic and I can only find that specific wine at their shop! The shop is very well kept and neat. It looks so cool, and everything is arranged very nicely. There aren't any boxes sitting around or any evidence of downstocking etc. They do that stuff in the mornings when they have no customers, which is also a fabulous thing. The shop is well lit with natural light which is greatly appreciated as well, and it is just a wonderful place to be. Honestly. I love stopping by! You should, too!

I love Pompette! I live right down the street and always go here if I need to pick something up for a party or special occasion. I know literally NOTHING about wine so I really appreciate how knowledgeable and patient the staff are (seriously, I think they helped me for like a half hour once). The wines I've tried I have loved. I also really enjoy the wine tastings they have, especially for someone like me that has a lot to learn. Basically the verdict is, if you're in the neighborhood, come here!

Really nice wine shop. Not sure what else I can add that has not already been said. I like that they have a visible section showing wines that are less than $20 or less than $15. I love the music they played when I went on a Sunday early afternoon -- it was hip-hop and rap, and the owner was singing along! Coolness. Definitely not an uptight shop. Happy this is a few blocks from me and, not being a "liquor store" (ahem), I can walk in easily - if you know what I mean. lol.

Fantastic addition to the the neighborhood, owned by a longtime Harlem resident. This shop is a breath of fresh air! Lots of tastings and a social atmosphere. Best of all, they have a great selection of wine, including a cheap and tasty table with wines below $15.

This place is adorable (not like the other liquor stores in the neighborhood-no bp glass). The staff was very friendly, super knowledgable and they deliver!! This place is amazing and they have wine tasting on the weekends. Such fun! The staff there are extremely friendly and establishment has a very welcoming atmosphere. This is where I get my wine for now on.

I absolutely love this wine shop. Everyone in the shop is sooo helpful. They have the best selection of wine. I'm reluctant to share my favorite one because I don't want it to sell out lol. But it's the Grapefruit Rosè!!! Amazing!!!

Saw this gem on my way from the store and just had to peek in! A friend and I went in on a Sunday and they had free mimosa tastings with prosecco...yum! We were greeted immediately upon entering, the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is so comfortable and lovely! They have quite an extensive selection of wine at affordable prices and I can't wait to go back! We bought a bottle of Riesling and Prosecco. I love it, Especially considering how close it is to my apartment :)

Please don't go this place. The guy has attitude with no smile (white bald with beard). He was nice only white peoples. There is wine store one block from there. It's cheaper. Most reviews are even real.

So happy this wine shop opened up for our community. This is not just any wine shop. This is a beautiful, chic, fun and amazing wine shop full of a creative and fun selections of wines and spirits. I feel inspired to try new brands that I never see at boring and ordinary liquor stores. I have the luxury of living two blocks away and feel I am so blessed!!! I love coming here, love the beautiful crates, the lighting, the staff as well as the cute quotes on their boards out front everyday. Lovely customer service at a gorgeous Black-owned wine shop! I'd passed this vintage, French looking boutique many times before stopping in recently for a gift. On the night I visited they had just wrapped up a champagne tasting ,but the gentlemen who worked there (the owners perhaps?) still offered me a glass... twice! Even though I declined both times, I decided that I would stop by in the near future for tasting when I had more time. They did not carry the Bartenura wine I was looking for but I was shown a variety of reasonably-priced alternatives. At the suggestion of another customer and one of the gentlemen employees, I selected a sweet wine that definitely lived up to the hype; my friend said it tasted great! I will definitely be back to this location and I encourage everyone to stop by at least once... if only for the atmosphere alone, I promise you won't be disappointed.
