Highland Park’s Greyhound Bar Vandalized With Anti-Semitic Swastika | Eater LA

"A popular pie-and-coffee concept expanding from San Diego into Orange County this fall; the brand is actively hiring for all positions and will open a location in Costa Mesa immediately adjacent to an established doughnut shop." - Farley Elliott

University Heights Pie Shop Heading to Orange County | Eater San Diego

"Set to open in mid-September in Costa Mesa in the same strip mall as Sidecar Doughnuts’ flagship, University Heights’ Pop Pie Co., founded in 2016 by co-owners Steven Torres and executive chef Gan Suebsarakham on Park Boulevard, brings its hand-picked expansion to Orange County. The all-day eatery will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday–Saturday, offering signature savory individual-sized pies such as Chicken Pot Pie, Aussie Meat Pie, Steak & Ale, curried vegetables, and chile-spiced braised pork, with sides like creamed corn and kale slaw. Dessert pies — including Salted Caramel Apple Crumble, Coconut Cream Pie, and Key Lime Pie — will be available by the slice, as whole 9-inch pies, or in handheld form sweetened with guava cream cheese or lemon curd and mixed berries; small-batch ice cream from companion scoop shop Stella Jean’s and a full-service coffee bar fueled by beans from Portland’s Heart Coffee Roasters will also be offered. Torres said the move was a perfect match for their long-planned expansion, and additional San Diego locations are reportedly planned." - Candice Woo

Amazing pies with buttery crust. Was nearby and got 4 pies, the hog, steak and ale, chicken, and Aussie… all of them excellent. In terms of pure protein content the hog was best in terms of total amount and leanness, the Aussie had plenty of ground lamb and was rich, whereas the steak was also nicely lean but maybe less protein overall. The ube coconut looked amazing and will have to try it next time!

Had this place bookmarked for some time as BF has been on the hunt for a comparable place to his beloved meat pies from England. We were able to stop by for weekend lunch. Parking in this plaza can get crazy because Sidecar Donuts is in this plaza, right next to Pop Pie, and is pretty popular. For the time we were here eating our items, we saw quite a lot of people arriving to get some donuts next door. Anyways, onto Pop Pie! We wanted to eat our hot items right then and there, so it was good that they had some counter seating by the window. There's two tables outside too, but it was easier to dine indoors. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they bring you the items on a metal pan that they take back and that they offer metal utensils for you to dig into their pies! They also offer a large water jug with non-single use cups, so that was another bonus. BF and I ordered 4 items to share: * sausage roll * steak and ale pie * classic chicken pot pie * aussie meat pie We had asked for the difference between the steak and ale versus the aussie meat, and it was that the aussie meat pie is a bit sweeter (think sorta like a sloppy joe kinda taste and consistency). I liked both and one would stand out over the other depending on what you're in the mood for (e.g. the aussie meat pie would speak to me if I was craving a sweeter savory pie that day, and the steak and ale would taste the best if I wanted a savory hearty pie). The chicken pot pie is a really solid pie here, with tender tender chicken, soft vegetables, and an excellent creamy sauce, wrapped in flakey goodness. I think out of it all, the sausage roll might be my least favorite since compared to the others, it was not as moist, but I do like the taste of the seasoning in the sausage. Even though we shared the items, I was sad I had no room to try their desserts. The key lime pie sounded really good.

I’m ashamed to admit I had no idea this place existed. They have so much to offer. Everything from meat pies to dessert pies, ice cream and cookies! Staff is super friendly and the place is clean. Decent price for what you get. The place is very small with very limited seating and parking can be difficult.

Dropped in to pick up 2 pies to go, first time here. Considering it was prime time, 6:45 on a Saturday evening the place was empty. Came for two Chicken Pot Pies, that was the preference but they only had one. Dissapointed they didnt have more at that time of the evening, nontheless after the employees recomemdation the choice was the Aussie Meat. Got home back to Tustin, threw them in the oven for a few minutes and had to try them out. Chicken was absolutely fantastic, Aussie Meat, no so much...not my choice of flavoring! Wish you would of had more chicken pies shouldnt of had to settle for the Aussie meat as I was still hungry.

My Curry Pop Pie was extremely delicious. It tasted like I was visiting my friend’s grandmas house! The crust is perfect and freshly made. I will come back to build my own pie. I grabbed a rhubarb dessert that knocked my socks off and a chocolate cookie that melted in my mouth. Their service is great!

I thought I knew pot pies. I was wrong. Pop Pie Co. does not just serve pot pies it perfects them. These are not the frozen ones from the grocery store or even the homemade ones you grew up with. These pies? They hit different. 🔥 The Crust. A Golden Masterpiece One bite in and you know this is not just any crust. It is buttery, crispy, and flaky in all the right ways. Light yet sturdy enough to cradle every bit of that rich slow cooked filling. It feels like it came straight out of a world class bakery. 🍖 The Fillings Straight Up Comfort Food Goals We went all in and tried everything and honestly? Every single one was a hit. - Chicken Pot Pie – Classic creamy packed with juicy chicken and that gravy? Pure magic. - Steak and Ale Pie – Deep hearty flavors with tender beef and a rich ale infused sauce. - Aussie Pie – Savory meaty and everything a true Aussie style pie should be. - Green Hog and Cheese Pie – A wild card that blew our minds braised pork tomatillos poblanos and just the right touch of spice. - Sausage Roll – A sleeper hit. Ground pork bacon and garlic all wrapped in a flaky sesame seeded crust. 🥗 Even the Salads? Insanely Good. You would not expect a place known for buttery indulgent pot pies to also crush it with fresh vibrant salads but they do. It is the kind of balance you never knew you needed. 💨 Fast Friendly Service and Chill Vibes Even when it is packed the team here keeps things moving. The service is fast the vibe is casual and the food hits the table quicker than you expect. 📍 Final Verdict. If You Are in Costa Mesa You NEED to Eat Here Let’s be real this is THE spot for next level pot pies. Whether you are a classic Chicken Pot Pie person or down to explore unique flavors Pop Pie Co. delivers. If you have not been yet what are you waiting for? Go grab a pie and thank me later.

Had to wait until they were done serving ice cream to service us. Order the OG chicken pot pie. Was honestly very disappointed. Was hoping for a good one. Maybe next time I’ll try something else.
