Savory & sweet pies, unique flavors, ice cream, friendly staff

"Pies are a great way to pack in protein and veggies for kids, especially when they’re hidden in an all-butter crust that even picky eaters will probably be open to. For the best pies in the area, head to San Diego’s own Pop Pie, which has five locations from Carlsbad to South Park. The restaurant serves classic pies with chicken and creamy herb sauce or steak and ale that will be a hit with kids and grown-ups alike, alongside signature flavors like green hog and cheese and roasted veggies in yellow curry pies. End with the tasty “Piescream” — a salted caramel apple crumble with Stella Jean’s Madagascar vanilla ice cream, finished with house-made caramel sauce. If kids are hankering for more Stella Jean’s ice cream, which is owned by the Pop Pie team, scoops are available onsite." - Helen I. Hwang

"Pop Pie Co. has teamed up with Stella Jean’s Ice Cream to share a corner space in Point Loma. The new location is the biggest yet, with separate counters and ample seating. The pies are made at a production hub but baked fresh on site. For its grand opening, Pop Pie Co. will offer pies created in collaboration with Oceanside chef Davin Waite of Shootz Fish & Beer." - Candice Woo

"I'm excited that Pop Pie Co., which runs flagship locations in University Heights and additional outposts in Costa Mesa, is headed to Point Loma and will open later this summer on Voltaire Street near the popular Italian restaurant Cesarina. The new location will share a roof with sister concept Stella Jean’s Ice Cream but keep its own counter and distinct branding in a Tecscape-designed space offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Co-owner Steven Torres runs Pop Pie’s coffee program with a rotating roster of micro-roasters and is developing his own high-end coffee line with plans for a roastery he hopes to have up and running by this fall. Torres and co-owner Gan Suebsarakham were able to ramp up takeout and delivery during the pandemic by renting a commissary kitchen in Clairemont, which should aid expansion, though Torres says they’re being cautious about not growing too fast." - Candice Woo

"One of the San Diego eateries currently preparing and delivering meals." - Candice Woo

"To commemorate Pi Day this Saturday, March 14, Pop Pie Co. will be giving away a free hand pie to the first 50 guests in line at 7 a.m. and executive chef Gan Suebsarakham has put together a menu of greatest hits and limited edition pies including The Dirty Flattop Cheeseburger pie inspired by The Friendly and the BBQ Pork Daddy Mac Pie created in collab with Grand Ole BBQ y Asado." - Keri Bridgwater
