"Pies are a great way to pack in protein and veggies for kids, especially when they’re hidden in an all-butter crust that even picky eaters will probably be open to. For the best pies in the area, head to San Diego’s own Pop Pie, which has five locations from Carlsbad to South Park. The restaurant serves classic pies with chicken and creamy herb sauce or steak and ale that will be a hit with kids and grown-ups alike, alongside signature flavors like green hog and cheese and roasted veggies in yellow curry pies. End with the tasty “Piescream” — a salted caramel apple crumble with Stella Jean’s Madagascar vanilla ice cream, finished with house-made caramel sauce. "I'm excited that Pop Pie Co., which runs flagship locations in University Heights and additional outposts in Costa Mesa, is headed to Point Loma and will open later this summer on Voltaire Street near the popular Italian restaurant Cesarina. The new location will share a roof with sister concept Stella Jean’s Ice Cream but keep its own counter and distinct branding in a Tecscape-designed space offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Co-owner Steven Torres runs Pop Pie’s coffee program with a rotating roster of micro-roasters and is developing his own high-end coffee line with plans for a roastery he hopes to have up and running by this fall.
