Poppycocks Cafe

I really want to like this place.. I understand this is Aspen so prices are high but I am very disappointed in the quality of food just feels like they are just dispatching plates so rapidly to get the next table in. The plates for sure need more love and time and the prices need to be readjusted to what they actually serve. On another note, the owner and servers are very kind and attentive.

Nice place for a classic breakfast. They have really good options for healthy eaters. Simple and delicious. Stuff is welcoming too

Stay very far away from this place. The service was terrible and the food was beyond mediocre. They tried to tack on all these additional charges. For example we ordered the eggs Benedict and on the bill it had an additional 4$ for the hollindaise when it says it came with the meal. They charged 10$ for 2 tiny cranberry juices and said everything is a free refill besides that (not to mention they don’t have the price on the menu). The manager and server proceeded to yell at us for the whole restaurant to hear when we asked about it. Saying “everything costs money.” We are familiar with the fact that Aspen is costly but are not okay with the shady antics taking place at poppycocks. Next let’s get into the sanitation. There cups look 10 years old and disgusting. The hollindaise sauce had a black hair in it. And the kitchen you can see in the back doesn’t look very sanitary. I would give this place negative stars if I could and I rarely leave bad reviews. If you would like to be scolded at breakfast and scammed at the same time this is the place for you!

Typical ski town establishment. $30 a head (including 20% tip) for average food from a pretty limited menu. Full of mid-season ski town folks, naturally, so the atmosphere reflected that, if you know what I mean (Brad and Jennifer miss the bagels from their usual Manhatten deli, "but this place is so quaint" or whatever). Gluten-free bread would have been an additional $4.50 (!!!), so i just went with the huevos rancheros. That didn't have any gluten-containing ingredients listed. Pork chili was bland and would have been more convincing if it was labeled "gravy." The potatoes were way under-seasoned. There was a salad (a couple of pieces of lettuce and some sliced tomato) on the side, which was listed as part of the meal, but added nothing of value and seemed to be there to make the plate look more full. Service wasn't great, but there only seemed to be 2 servers and the one that took care of me was definitely the busiest (monumental side-eye to the other server). Poor thing, who was very quick and very lovely, said I could pay at my table then proceeded to take my phone to the register at the front of house to use Samsung Pay. Give them a wireless payment machine, for goodness sake! If I'd known I'd have just taken care of it on my way out! Their rent's probably insane, so the prices should be expected. The service is as you might expect from any employer trying to squeeze as much out of their staff as possible. They need wireless, handheld payment machines. The atmosphere was flat, as you'd expect from a place full of typical ski season tourists.

Great location, customer service was attentive and efficient. Nice to enjoy a breakfast outside watching the people walk by in Aspen. Only negative I would add is the food was not great quality. In terms of pricing, I understand Aspen is expensive, but here we didn’t feel we got what we paid for in terms of quality good food. Hoping they focus on key items to be very good because it’s more about quality than quantity.

This is a pretty nice little café for breakfast. I had the corned beef, hash and eggs, and it was good but not great. What would’ve made it fantastic is if they would have seared the corn beef hash on a flat iron grill it was just a little too mushy otherwise we enjoyed our visit

I have been eating at Poppycocks for almost 20 years as a winter visitor to Aspen. On this last experience, it was evident that something has changed for the worst. For $18 the huevos rancheros were very disappointing. Here's the lowdown - the tortillas were raw! In the past they were warm and had likely been placed on a griddle. These were cold and felt like cardboard in your mouth. 2) The beans, which used to be plentiful and identifiable were sadly lacking. The pork green chile - sauces appeared to be straight from a jar - we both felt it was gloppy. The sauce was not warm at all. They would not allow the two of us to split the check on our respective credit cards! We feel like this restaurant has been sold or there is an inexperienced management staff in place. I don't recommend Poppycocks - sad to say after so many years.

Nice, clean dining area with excellent service. The food came out quickly, was hot, and really good. I had the Nutella Banana crepe and it was wonderful. One of my brothers got the Breakfast Burrito and I sampled some. The salsa was delicious and the eggs were done just right! My other brother got the French toast, and while I didn’t sample it, he said it was good. Thank you for an excellent meal!
