Pop's Homemade Water Ice

We went to Pop’s this evening and Layla helped our family out. She was so bright and cheerful. It’s refreshing to have good customer service!

We go here a lot and it's great. But a couple months back I saw their flyer on ice cream cakes and so I ordered one. It was fantastic - they did a really good job. Everyone in the family enjoyed it...for several days.

Saw the roadside sign about new ice cream cakes and decided to order one. This is the type with just ice cream but you get to customize the mix or vanilla/chocolate, the sauce and candy crunch filling, and the sprinkles. The only thing they don’t do is write on the cake. It is a bit pricey but it is huge. The fudge wasn’t quite all the way through but it was very good. Service was also excellent - when the cake needed more time to freeze, they offered to deliver it if I wanted, discounted the cake, and gave me a coupon. They now take credit cards but impose a fee. Debit cards aren’t charged but it isn’t clear on the signage or the screen, only once you get a receipt is the surcharge not there.

I love Pops. We’ve considered installing a gate in our back gate to be able to walk there faster :) It’s one of the things we look forward to most in summer!

I have yet to visit since the new owners bought. I live across the country in SoCal. I WILL visit when I come home. My pop pop and aunt opened pops when I was 3! All I can say is I’m beyond happy that the new owners are bringing much needed life back into pops, and the Havertown community.

I have no vices nor ever been addicted to anything at all. But since I’ve been buying the Cherry water ice from Pops Oregon location I now understand addiction... only in a good way tho. I could eat this stuff everyday for the rest of my life. In fact I have all my friends and family hooked on it too. I have never tried any other flavors but I’m sure they’re great as well. Best water ice around, been going here since I was a kid and the quality has definitely held up! I always prefer Pop's over Rita's. FYI, they have been cash only the past year or two so don't roll up with just a card.

I got the chocolate water ice with coffee ice cream blended in. It was delicious. I love Pop's. I don't go there as often as I would like (getting out of their parking lot can be a pain, forget about turning left out of their parking lot, it's practically impossible and, I think, illegal. And if it's not, it should be.)

Pop's is still serving awesome soft serve. They've changed owners. The new family have made some positive changes: Indoor seating! Nice, small, clean spot indoors. You still order at the walk up windows. Now accepting credit cards and Apple Pay! Serving Bernie's Pretzels! Yay! I sometimes get a pretzel with creamy vanilla soft serve It's a great, locally owned ice cream parlor.

I passed this many times wondering if I should stop. It's funny I go to the ymca right across the street twice a week. But after a good workout on a sunny day water ice seemed like a great idea plus it's healthier then candy. I decided to stop by and I was surprised of how unique and cute the place was. They had a place you can eat inside or stand outside after ordering. They have many portions from ice, to bananas, pretzels and gelaties. They have soft and hard ice cream and you can ask for samples. We got to meet the owner who was friendly and let us take our time ordering. I'm he mentioned to us that in the summer he will have over 28 flavors at a time to order from. That is more then Rita's which I feel bad is right up the street from him. I decided to get a cotton candy gelati it was delicious and the vanilla ice cream hit the spot. If you pass Pops water ice def stop by and support a local business who gives back to our community from participating with the ymca, to going to local parks.

The low rating is for the "water ice" which is in their name. They use the same logo as Pop's in South Philly on Oregon Ave. but they are NOT making the same water ice. I'm fact, it's NOT water ice. There's no water; just super fine ice instead of the larger granual ice and water mix. Apparently even though they still use the name and logo they're no longer affiliated. Do not go here expecting real Philly water ice. In the Western 'burbs I can only recommend Buddy's in Norristown.

My wife has always wondered why I always refuse any of the area water ice spots, especially the chain stores, until I took her to Pops. My wife's first real water ice was at the original South Philly location on Oregon Ave, then we found Havertown. Pops is by far the best water ice I have ever had, and I've been enjoying Pops since I was a kid. The Havertown location is spot on like Philly, and it saves my a trip onto the city. Do yourself and try this, the pineapple is my favorite with actual chunks of fruit. ,

And the battle rages on every summer in Havertown. Pop's is on Eagle road and fifty yards down the street is the local Rita's. When the weather is good they are both mobbed. Among Havertownians it's almost as bad as the Pats and Gino's cheesesteak war! Rita's has the big marketing budget on their side. Pop's relies on word of mouth. I live within walking distance of both and have visited both many times. In my opinion, in a blind taste test, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. They are both a fine summer treat.

Great water ice and gelati! A bunch of flavors and good value for the price range. I recommend the mint chocolate chip and the pina colada water ice. There's a few benches to sit on right outside, underneath an awning, in front of the parking spots.

This is my go-to place when it comes to water-ice in the Havertown area. You get fresh fruit bits in the water-ice, and my personal favorite flavor that I wait all year round for is pineapple~ Their vanilla custard is also amazing. Nonetheless, they have a wide variety of flavors, and if you can't decide, you can go for a gelati or mix different flavors. ***Beware, don't park in the adjacent parking lot. Those spots are reserved for the small apartment and office complex there, and those people will have it out for you if your car is even an inch on their lines.

Amazing homemade water ice. Growing up this was the only water ice spot in my town until Rita came along and even then pops was best. With their richer flavors and better sizes for your money they had what a kid wanted. Less water, more flavor. The chocolate TASTES like chocolate, the cherry and lemon still have the tiny chunks. Tasty pretzels and great soft serve. Did I mention CHOCOLATE COVERD BANANA? yum. Believe me if you're near pops, don't pass it up.

We got a pint of vanilla ice cream and the lady only filled it up barely 3/4ths of the way and then when we brought it home the swirl in the quart was hollow. Terrible customer service as well.

Give your tongue a sleigh ride and head over to POPS for their soft serve It's the only place in the area that serves real soft serve ice cream that doesn't taste like chemicals. I always get the small vanilla cone because it's so large and for $2.50 it's worth it! I would have given 5 stars however the pavement and benches are always very dirty with sticky ice cream that's been built up over the season. I really believe a simple pressure washing once a week would work wonders quickly and easily. It's always nice to go to a place that's spic and span. Have a great 2nd half of the season POPS! I wish you were open all year long.

water ice and pretzels were a staple evening treat in the summer when I grew up in West Philly as a kid. Pops is the only local place in the burbs where you can get a decent cup of authentic water ice and a REAL Philly pretzel!

In the competitive world of a fresh flavored water ice I found that Pops takes it to the next level I find there water ice extremely delicious with bits of fruit which adds a luscious kick to the taste bud.

I totally agree with Steven B.! Pop's and Rita's water ice basically taste the same. I can't tell any difference. The real difference was the pricing... I think Rita's is cheaper. But since they're next to each other, I guess all that matters during the summer is which line is shorter. They're both going to do well.

Pop's is awesome. Friendly, large selection, great tasting water ice. After reading one of the reviews below, I felt the need to chime in - the parking is very easy to understand - if you don't park in front of another business (with a clearly marked private parking) sign, you will have no issues with neighbors. Pop's has ample parking so this won't be a problem for normal people.

Love this water ice/ ice cream shop. Used to go to Rita's until I discovered it shortly after moving to the area. Will never go to Rita's again! They are ALWAYS friendly and kind and cater to some odd requests I give.

The best place in the world the best workers so nice and help u like u are best friends. it is sooo much better then Ritas If i could i would go there 5 times a day for the rest of my life. Pops has the best water ice you could think of. They open early in the year and close in the way end of the year. I do not no y people go to Ritas, Pops is the best i do not no y people would say otherwise. I hope u will go to Pops now.

Growing up in Havertown I have been going to POPS for years, however I have found now that I must move on. I am a huge supporter of local businesses and have enjoyed taking my family and my basketball team to POPs on summer evenings. However I must now continue to my daily walks a few blocks further up the street to Rita's. As I can respect small business, I can't respect being treated rudely for simply asking for a glass of water for my dog. I walk my dog everyday and when it is hot I tend to make stops and get him a drink. Jakes Hardware, Brick in Brew, Oakmont Havertown Bicycles, are a few of the local businesses I stop at and I am given a cup of water for my dog, even if I am not making a purchase. Hence why I will always continue to give them my business. Rita's also gives me a free cup of water for my dog and for this reason, I unfortunately wont return to POPS. Part of supporting local businesses is they support their locals. The owner of POPS could learn a lesson from her employees who for years have given my dog water at no charge knowing they are making much more profit off my repeat business, then what you lose in a 0.05$ cup. I am pretty sure on a 90 degree day majority of people would give a dog a free drink of water. Perhaps you should look at the big picture. You already save enough money from being a Cash Only business.
