Yelp
Vegans and vegetarians, you HAVE TO stop by this food truck if you're ever in Mexico City! I've been here the two times I've been in Mexico City and should I return (very likely), I'll be by again, despite there being plenty of vegan options throughout the city!
The first time I Ubered here, it was crowded as balls (which surprised me a bit - vegan food trucks rarely see fanfare like this where I'm from!) - I actually had to wait a little bit with my two very patient omnivore friends. Granted it was late and I suppose a fair amount of the patrons had been liquored and up and tacos sort of go hand and hand with alcohol . . . hell, they go with everything. AMIRIGHT?! I ordered four tacos - Pastor (two of these), Chorizo, and I forgot the third. The food truck peeps whipped the tacos up with haste right in front of me and they were presented simply with the mounds of faux soy and wheat gluten-based meats on corn tortillas. There's a crapload of sauces, toppings, accoutrements, etc. in tiny bowls and you betcha I loaded them onto my tacos. And no joke, probably one of the best vegan taco experiences of my life and I've had many! I'm not exactly the biggest faux meat fan, but the slight crispy chewy savory goodness melded with all my miscellaneous toppings . . . my body is always ready for that.
My most recent visit was sort of happenstance. I was strolling around with my friend and her kiddo and I happened to whip out my phone to peruse Yelp and behold, Por Siempre was a mere few blocks away. Fortunately, this all occurred during an off hour, so there was no wait and one of the food truck peeps actually spoke a bit of English! I think I ordered similarly as I did my previous visit here and added a banana cake and a chocolate cake. Like the newly arrived tourist that I was, I didn't have small enough bills to properly pay for my order (everything is soooo affordable and cheap here, well Mexico City in general when you're visiting from the United States, but this place is in particular is a freaking bargain!), so the cashier lady ended up giving me a discount. I should have just tipped them the excess of my larger bills, but I wasn't clearly thinking (was too overcome with vegan taco love), so for that, I suck. I received a couple of thin plastic baggies to full with toppings and sauces for later consumption and then essentially dashed back to my Airbnb to scarf down the deliciousness.
My omnivore friend said the banana cake tasted pretty much identical to any regular ole banana cake. I want to say the chocolate cake was supposed to be a black forest cake? Both were delightfully moist, light, and not overly sweet - I was perhaps aggrieved I hadn't doubled my cake orders . . . The tacos themselves were as tasty as I had remembered them (I actually had mediocre vegan tacos elsewhere a couple of days later, womp womp!). In fact, they also actually reheated fairly well the next day!
Basically, as I previously stated, if you're vegan, vegetarian, or even an open-minded omnivore in Mexico City, you NEED TO STOP BY THIS TACO TRUCK. It is a must!
