6 Local Chicago Spots for a Killer Bourbon Cocktail | Eater

"Longtime locals have been madly in love with this quirky riverside spot for generations. Give a beautiful day on the river the ultimate sendoff with a Bulleit Old Fashioned (Bulleit Rye, sugar cube, muddled orange, cherry, and angostura bitters) paired with a dish from their seafood-heavy menu, like a bucket of clams or mussels, fried oysters, steamed Alaskan crab legs, or jumbo sea scallops with beurre blanc." - Vox Creative

I dined there twice already. Always have good experience there. Food and service are great. 10/10 Definitely go back.

Great for special events or just stopping by after a stressful work day! Every year I look forward to the official opening of the terrace on the river...everything is incredibly convenient from close by free parking (cars and boats) to menu, service, options...beautiful sites, place to disconnect and relax. No reservations needed for terrace sitting. Highly recommend to check the website and visit with friends and/or family! ☀️

Staff were great. Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Server Amanda was spectacular! She was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu, never kept us waiting, timed the courses perfectly, and never hurried us. Very friendly, fun, and down to earth. We’ll be back soon! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yummy yummy in my tummy! The wild caught Alaskan schmeat fish with a side of scallops and bits was delicious! The server was kind and complimented my cool hat. Id come back here again

What a great night! Food and service was amazing. Samantha and Doug were incredible bartenders. From start to finish food was amazing. Port plater was so good, king crab legs were enough to share. Perfect night. We will go back for sure.

NOT SAFE! I recently discovered this place driving through Algonquin. While my mom was in town last week, we stopped here and enjoyed a nice dinner. The waitress was a mid age women that was so kind, I tipped 20% like I normally do. Food was exceptional and friendly talkative staff. I came back a week later while my sister was in town because my mom suffered a stroke. I knew coming to this place would at-least bring my spirits up. Good food, music, staff. Aug 2nd around 8pm we placed an order that included sprite, two waters, 2 appetizers and 2 steaks. Appetizers and drinks were dropped off by other waiters. An hour later, still no food or refills. Finally, our waiter shows up with 2 cold steaks after never seeing him after taking our order. The steaks took 15 minutes last time, so I am assuming they were ready for while before he gave it to us. I didn’t complain. I ask if I can have some steak sauce he tells me it’s on there and walks away(I ordered the same thing last time it’s just steak juice not sauce) So, I had to ask another waiter that kindly brought some over. Then comes time to pay. Not only was he hawking over me as I press 10% tip, he then asks me WHY I didn’t leave him 20%. He absolutely didn’t even deserve a 10% but to ask why I didn’t leave him more is CRAZY. He then started to corner me and ask why would I only leave 10% in a $117 order, so I wouldn’t leave without giving him an explanation he began to get loud. I almost lost my mom 2 days ago at 24 years old and have been sleeping on hospital chairs and now I have some weird tall creepy man barricading me in my seat asking him why I didn’t tip more than 10%. I absolutely loved this place and planed on coming back once my mom feels better but I will NEVER. I tried to notify some teenager standing at the front but she didn’t care at all. Hiring someone who clearly is very mentally unstable is NOT okay. Please consider your guests safety, Port Edward’s!

Google
I gave this restaurant four stars only because the food took forever to arrive, likely due to the large crowd. Despite the wait, we were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The standout dishes were the duck wings, TNT shrimp, and mussels. However, everything tasted great, and we will definitely keep coming back, especially for the duck wings!

Yelp
We went to Port Edward's for the kid friendly Easter brunch buffet. It was enjoyable. And, our server was the greatest! This place is a throw back. When you walk in you see a ship in a pool with gigantic Koi fish swimming around. It's a bit smelly in there, but you get used to it. They seated us and then allowed us to head to the buffet. The buffet had an iceberg salad with yummy ranch, waffles, French toast, bacon, sausage, tenders, fries, mac, fried shrimp, potatoes, and more. Really good buffet for kids. No culinary standouts, but for $25, it was worth the price by 2025 standards. There was a bunny for photos, drink options and an egg hunt for the youngsters. For the price and the casual-ness, it was a good thing for families with young kids. I think we may head back for the regular menu to see what it's all about. The restaurant had been around for decades. I think there is a reason they still stand!

Yelp
Food was amazing!! Definitely pricey but well worth it. However the service was not great. Our server had to be flagged down multiple times. He came by and asked what we wanted to drink, then we flagged him down to put our food order in, and then got served our dinner and had to flag him down again as part of our meal was missing. Additionally, they are serious when they say you can only be at your table for an hour and a half. Two tables next to us got kicked out for being there too long. Live music, they were great! Outdoor space was nice as well, very comfortable seating.

Yelp
We came in hungry and hopeful. The food was decent overall, but the grilled octopus completely missed the mark. It was cooked until it was crisp, and all I could taste was burnt charcoal. The actual flavor of the octopus was totally lost. Service was a bit lackluster. I asked for a couple of cucumber slices for my water. The server told me they could only do lime or lemon. Later, when I ordered the tuna sashimi bowl, I asked again for cucumber slices on the side. She said yes but forgot. I ended up fishing a few out of my sashimi bowl just to add to my water. Seriously, how hard is it to get a couple of cucumber slices? Overall, it just wasn't worth the 40 minute drive. If you're local, it might do in a pinch. But if you're driving in from across town, keep looking. There are better spots that actually listen and deliver.

Yelp
For Mother's Day there was an open buffet with open apple and orange juices. Food was okay and very expensive, $80 a person. Of course, the gratuity was already taken out. Not to mention the $10 a person to hold your reservation. The clams, octopus and crawfish were over cooked and dry. The mac & cheese wasn't creamy it was tasteless and watery. The vegetables were tasteless. The ham and turkey was processed. The desserts were good. My niece loved the chocolate fountain. I went to the restroom. Upon entering the restroom there you see a toilet door open with poop on the toilet. I found a clean toilet and upon my exit. I washed my hands and looked to throw away my paper towel but it was overflowing. I went to the front of the restaurant to inform the Host at the desk that the female restroom was flilty and needed to be cleaned. She said ok. Ok???? Over 30 minutes later my group was leaving. My niece needed to go to the restroom. She went in and came right out saying it stinks and is dirty. So therefore I will say the restaurant doesn't keep its restrooms cleaned and the food isn't of quality. IJS The service was great though. Ambiance was okay. I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THE GOOD AND BAD OF THIS RESTAURANT!!! We won't go back.

Yelp
I loved the vibe of this place but the food and service was lackluster. While the coy pond, live music and bar area was super nice, everything else was a little disappointing. We didn't know about a cake cutting fee - $1.50 per person, which was unfortunate for our big group of 11 people. Our waitress also did a terrible job and destroyed our cake...a sparkler also cost an additional fee. Our dinner was so expensive it was ridiculous that we had such bad quality of food and service for the insane price. Oysters were huge and okay. Calamari wasn't great and tasted like it was previously frozen and then microwaved. The seafood pasta was the best dish, the other entrees were small and not great. The hand helds seemed to be the best bang for your buck in terms of portions. My seafood salad was nothing special, as was my boyfriend's soggy grouper. My brother's swordfish was also smelly and not great. My mom's prime rib for the Saturday special was probably the worst I've ever tried. Not a place for prime rib for sure. The clam chowder also nothing special. Since we had a big group, the waitress was just overwhelmed as well which was uncomfortable for us as she would make comments when she had to repeat herself and things were taking a while.

Yelp
The food is terrible, service even worse avoid at all costs. Order a burger, thought that was safe but it was a frozen Patty undercooked. They only offered to take 50% off because I had a few bites. Worst service imaginable.

Alicia R.

Yelp
Food, service, and atmosphere was great! I had the snow crab and it's was a great amount! Ended up taking some home. Boyfriend had the fish tacos and he loved it! Had a bottle of white wine and drank it all. Loved the atmosphere outside. Waitress was wonderful. Will go again

Yelp
Terrible service, long wait, terrible ambiance, and extremely overpriced for what you're getting. Food is never consistent.

Yelp
Outdoor eating area on a Sunday was fantastic Great service Great food Great people. Dining on the water is so enjoyable Highly recommended

Yelp
Such a cute place to have a meal! There's an indoor koi pond with a small boat to make it look like you're on the water near a dock. Some of the seats overlook this area to give it an outdoor feel. Service was very friendly, food was good, and prices were reasonable. It is recommended that you call for a reservation. Complimentary sour dough bread was delicious with the crab dip. House cabernet $7 - Aok. Calamari $14.50 - Crunchy and tasty, biggest portion I've had in a while at a restaurant. Seared sesame tuna $16.50 - Great starter, came with 3 pieces of tuna. Mussels $17 Swordfish $30 Gift of the Ocean Pasta $34 - Creamy sauce with assorted seafood including scallops, clams, mussels, shrimp and squid. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2024

Yelp
Old, worn out, funky smells describes this restaurant. An old boat landlocked in a dirty water indoor pond. Stay away because you will not enjoy this place.

Yelp
I went for by birthday dinner on Sunday. It was very busy we waited 30 mins. Which is fine we had drink at bar. We sit down there were no specials mentioned or drink specials. I ended up ordering king crab legs. The waitress forgot my daughter's soup. She never came by to ask how anything tasted. I started cracking crab and it's cold and I keep asking my husband if it ordered cold crab he said no. There is nothing to crab legs so with I get to another leg frozen . I tell the waitress she said why didn't you tell me sooner there are 4 legs they all cold and frozen you never came by. The manager comes to table and says he's sorry that the legs were never Steamed and kept insisting on bringing more I said no I'm good. He then says for your trouble how about a cheesecake slice it was. My birthday dinner. I said fine but still not satisfied about how this all turned out. They charge $120 for crab legs that I ate cold and frozen. Thu never gave a percentage off the bill or anything. We spend 375 on a basic meal also added on extra drink we never had to the bill she took that off. Just had a bad experience

Yelp
Went for the Sunday champagne brunch. The food was plentiful and fresh. Our server kept our champagne topped off. The only reason I'm taking a star off is most dishes were very salty. Both my dining partner and I commented on it. The brunch goes from 9-2....I left at 1:30 and the food on the buffet was still full and hot. I did note that they accommodated several large parties (6+). This spot would be great for that.

Yelp
I got sicker than a dog. It tasted terrible from the start. The smell was awful. It's my fault for even going in the first place. One of my friends warned me. Do not eat at that place. trust me you're gonna get sick but another friend of mine bought me dinner and I thought I'll give it a shot but man was he right I was sicker than a dog for four days. Please don't go there

Yelp
Lobster roll was overfilled with lobster meat, dream for any lobster lover! One of the best chilled lobster rolls I've ever tried! Place is clean, delicious food and great atmosphere, very unique! Definitely will be coming back. Our server was very nice and fast with drinks/orders.

Yelp
Seafood stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer consisted of 4 medium sized mushrooms at $12.95 (not worth it). I ordered the Tuesday night seafood special that was a 4oz piece of mahi mahi, a sizeable portion of salmon and a good size piece of grouper on a bed of rice for $29.00. A good deal, HOWEVER, the kitchen overcooked the salmon and the mahi mahi and for a restaurant that is known for their seafood.......!! Our waitress, April R was very unprofessional and LOUD. Again, for a restaurant where i spent over $60 I guess I would expect management to have higher standards. Won't be back

Linda W.

Yelp
After eating here for 3 years we had a bad food experience. We always get the lobster bisque and the lobster rolls. This time the lobster bisque was dark brown like beef stew with lobster thrown in. It was gross. I didn't eat mine. The lobster roll used to have huge pieces of lobster. This time it was chopped up Fine and had a mushy texture. I ate it but didn't enjoy it. The waitress admitted they had a new chef. We are done. For $118 it was not good. I'd avoid

Yelp
Last Sunday 6/31/24 a large group of friends( approximately 10 people)and I met at Port Edward's to eat drink and a to listen to the band MCrew. It was a beautiful Sunday evening so we sat at the outside tables! The food was delicious and drinks were good Our waitress was sweet and attentive So why one star? After we were done eating our entree they said we had to leave the table for others to eat and that we couldn't order dessert or an after dinner drink I was only at the table for an hour my friends got there 30 minutes earlier and they brought our bill to pay without us asking for it I asked for the manager (not to be a Karen but we weren't finished eating??) She was polite and said they only allow 11/2 hours at a table and that there was 6 seats we can grab at the bar I was obviously flustered since we traveled an hour to meet everybody there and our group was just warming up since we hadn't seen each other for months and so catching up a bit and now we had to disassemble or retreat to the bar!! BTW Our tab was not cheap! We all ordered entrees like lobster mac Surf and turf, classic cocktails etc Also Our group ages were between 65 and 75 and most either couldn't stand for long couldn't sit on high top chairs but that didn't matter to them All they seemed to care about was turning the tables, so very sad Anyhow if that wasn't bad enough Part 2 happened I went to the bar per the managers advice in order to get the seats saved while the rest of the party were paying the bill and to keep the group together and so we could continue to listen to the band and maybe get an after dinner drink then this happened A very rude female bartender with dark medium length hair( I didn't get her name) scolded me about saving seats at the bar as I told a couple that was trying to grab the seats that I put my sweater on and other personal items to hold while the others were paying there tab at the table 10 yards away from the bar! I explained to her what just happened and her reply was that she didn't have to serve me and guess what She didn't She also must have told the other two bartenders not to serve us as well cause 8 of us sat and stood at the bar for 30 minutes with no service till basically they drove us out due to no service at the bar outside. Just horrible treatment Most of us will probably never come back Sad cause I personally had some nice memories in the past I don't know what's happened But this needed to be addressed They literally ruined our evening for no reason

Yelp
Never disappoints , staff is attentive and friendly , efficient. Food is delish, new items on the menu. Could not have asked for better weather. Great vibe. Zia may be the best GM in the business !

Yelp
Stopped in on a gloomy Sunday. Great bar, lots of customers and on the patio. Didn't go inside but I was years ago and it was a nautical theme. Connor made THE best jalapeño margarita! I'm very picky about margaritas and not having sour mix in my margarita and it still taxing good. Conner added a bit extra lime juice and it was PERFECTION! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I was very excited to take my partner to Port Edwards for the surf and turf buffet for Valentine's Day, and we were both thoroughly let down. The few seafood dishes they had were overcooked and the made to order steak was unseasoned. Unfortunately, our favorite things to eat the evening were strawberries from the fruit bar and carrot cake. They definitely purchased from Jewel. Save your money and go to a different restaurant where the food quality is of the highest standard.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service! Good food! The crab legs are a must...pricy..but delicious! Staff is all friendly, helpful and fast!

Danute P.

Yelp
I've been dining here for nearly 10 years. The Champagne Brunch is amazing! A huge variety of fresh delicious food. Can't go wrong with unlimited champagne. Service is always great too. My favorite place for birthdays and anniversaries!

Yelp
I've been here 2 times now and one thing is for certain... this spot is worthy of a special date or occasion because the experience is unique and the interior design is epic. The first time we were here, we got to sit in the boat! That's right, dinner served in a boat that actually rests on water. After about 10 minutes, my wife and I were seasick, so we ended up going to a booth that we confirmed was on dry land! While we both love the ocean, we realize that we are landlubbers when it comes to eating a meal. The menu is generally pricey, but not unreasonable given the quality we experienced. Our servers have been friendly and talkative, willing to share the history of the restaurant and the best things to eat. My wife loves the escargot and I enjoyed the fish sandwich. We haven't been here during the buffet times, but that will be our next endeavor.

Yelp
Worse customer service. I called to see about reservation for party of 8 with arrival time 4pm Sunday afternoon. Per voicemail they only have first come first serve. Does not mention anything about seating is only 90 minutes. Once we arrived (1hr travel) we were told several times only 90 minutes. Not everyone arrived yet found high top table in bar outside. We had appetizers and drinks, sign on table also stated 90 minutes. Once everyone arrived we were already on waiting list for 4pm when entertainment started, paid bills. When being seated AGAIN we were told 90 minutes. When asking questions on specials etc waitress had to go ask, waited on drinks, meals etc. As soon as we finished our meal not even digested yet or asked if we wanted dessert we were literally kicked out of our table. Totaling what all parties spent had to be over a thousand. Example of one plate of king Alaska crab legs was 110 a plate. We were told we can sit at bar. My friend saw a row of five open seats asked bartender to add glasses of water to hold seats bartender was very rude stated we do not hold seats friend advised we are all here paying the bill. Bartender continues to be rude went to her manager, mgr let her know she did tell us we can sit in bar area. Would not even ask what we wanted once all there. At that point we were fed up saying goodbye to friends group. I called on Tuesday and talked to a manager she stated that is their policy does not matter if you order a cheeseburger with one drink and one person seated everyone is treated the same. Asked about inside dining room which I never had an issue with she stated it would be the same they use same waitress from outside. I then stated I was adding a review on yelp she begged me not too until she researched it and get back to me, she did remember our food order with crab legs to remember that order from that day you know we spent a lot. Next day a general mgr called me said we wanted to apologize BUT made excuses for his staff and policy was rude! He offered a round of drinks next time we were there. I told him we didn't even get dessert and he said but you did get your meal! At that point I was so disgusted I said to shove his drinks up his ass. He then had the nerve to call me back and said make sure I add that on my review...so rude not professional all they care about is turning over that table not the customer. So like he said I am adding that to my review.

Yelp
This restaurant is truly a gem in Algonquin. Highly recommend as the food, the service & atmosphere is just so worth the visit. I've been visiting this restaurant since 1992 & it never has disappointed us. Great job to all the servers & chefs & owner! The Sunday Brunch was fabulous

Yelp
To be fair, I am not a seafood connoisseur. Never liked, probably never will. That said, I do have to give props to Port Edward as just a cool place to hang out with friends on the patio or eat with the family inside. We hit this place up every summer at least a couple of times with friends just to enjoy the service and atmosphere of the patio and enjoy some live music. Only downside for us non seafood eaters is that really the only option you have is a run of the mill burger and fries. I consider it a small sacrifice to enjoy good times with friends.
google avatar

Tom R.

Yelp
Champagne brunch was ok. But not worth $55. More like $30. Seafood options limited. Crab legs were extra which I understand!

Lina S.

Yelp
To my surprise they charge us the crab cakes sauce and the SALAD blue cheese dressing... This is the first time that any restaurant does it... So sorry!!! this little thing make a bad experience for US... The waitress was like "I do not make these rules, also the blue cheese dressing is very expensive...." What a bad answer, I requested to tell the manager our discomfort of this situation... it is not only the money they charge is the fact of charging for everything ...
google avatar

Pam P.

Yelp
Loved their seafood pasta. Never had a dish with so much seafood and the sauce was delicious. The service was very good and the ambiance was so romantic with the boat in the water in the middle of the restaurant with koi swimming all around it.

Mike R.

Yelp
We have been coming to Port Edward for over 40 years. This past Friday evening did not disappoint in any way while celebrating our wedding anniversary. Everything we ordered that night from appetizers to dessert was prepared to perfection & absolutely delicious! A special shout out & a big thank you also goes out to all of your amazing staff for making our evening extra special!

C M.

Yelp
Not worth the money or time it took to drive to this restaurant. We used to go for their international seafood buffet on Friday nights but hadn't gone in awhile. We were looking forward to going there and trying out their surf and turf buffet. Food was definitely not of the caliber that it used to be. Most of it tasted overcooked and rubbery. The lobster thermador was a joke. Three tiny overcooked pieces of lobster thrown back into the shell with a small handful of rice. I would've thought it would have been the whole lobster tail cut up and placed back into the same shell. Definitely not worth the almost $200 we spent there. Feel like I wasted part of my holiday bonus on this place when I could've gone to Royal Buffet in Schaumburg for a third of the price and a fresher, wider selection of buffet items. We won't be back. It's sad because we used to love this place.

Yelp
Went there solo for dinner on Saturday April 27. After sitting at my table for 20 minutes with no acknowledgement of myself. I decided to leave. On the way-out Janet, the hostess asked why and she immediately stepped up and apologized, explaining there was a mixup and asked if they could make good on the evening. Janet was wonderful. Immediately greeting me at my table was Cynthia, who has been an employee almost as long as Port Edwards has been in business. It would be impossible to ignore her incredible kindness and concern. She is amazing. Holly, my server stepped up and my Grouper Sandwich was exceptional. WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!!!

Don R.

Yelp
My daughter went to port Edwards last night for a birthday dinner for her boyfriends dad they said the food was absolutely terrible she got the grouper and about an hour after eating she's throwing up has sweats stomach aches, this place use to be the seafood restaurant to go to, now I would think twice before going there, she's an ER nurse so she knows what to do for her symptoms but had to call in sick today because of her symptoms, they did complain about the meal to the manager and he did comp the meal but that doesn't excuse her getting sick.

Yelp
Port Eddie has been a fixture on the Fox for the better part of a century. Sitting just above the Algonquin dam diners on the patio can enjoy the view across impounded waters in warm weather, views from the bar are available year round. plenty of moorings are available for boat access, weather and common sense permitting. nothing else to do late Sunday morning except admire the view of the river while conversing over champagne brunch. when we arrived the hostess asked if we had reservations, told her "Yes, but we came anyway..." (insert roll-and-rim-shot emoji) got seated in the bar because it's expedient and the extra couple steps getting to and from the buffet does a body good. we weren't seated five minutes before some lady shows up offering bubbly white wine... yea! a sip and we wandered off in search of orange juice and victuals. found juice, deviled eggs and salads; breaded shrimps, etouffee, sliced turkey and dressing; prime rib, blintzes, fruits, cheeses, and more deviled eggs; and finally chocolate mouse. the coffee was hot, fresh and plentiful. just the ticket on a brisk winter's day. I think I've been here once or twice before and not much has changed, still kinda spendy, still kinda fancy, still isn't stuffy... but I don't think the boat is available for dining anymore.

Yelp
We sat outside and I was pleasantly surprised with the food. My tenderloin trio was absolutely delicious as well as the New England lobster roll! We had the cheesecake for my grandma's 80th birthday and one was enough to split between four people. Our waitress Jenny gave us the best service I've experienced in quite a long time. She was friendly, always smiling, on top of refilling our water, and just a great person. We will definitely be back!

Karen G.

Yelp
We are frequent patrons. Planned a visit outdoors due to the beautiful weather this past Friday. Was disappointed in the entire visit. We were greeted rudely, mid day, with "I have nothing right now!"There were at least 3 empty tables in view. She Took my name on an empty piece of paper, no phone # or pager... we went to the bar for a drink and saw the same older woman seat people arriving after us, over and over. A kind waitress seated us, as she noticed us waiting. We had to ask for silverware and water after we were served. Our entree, well over priced, was significantly smaller than usual. Not a happy experience...

Yelp
This is a solid place for seafood. My recent visit was a Sunday afternoon and involved appetizers that were tasty after sampling beers at a nearby brewery (reviewed separately). Crab Cakes Royale were decent, while mussels and sourdough bread to dip were good and the Shrimp Dejonghe was tasty. The atmosphere is older supper club, and you are on the river, so nautical themes all around.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years. Now I am going to come back soon. So many upgrades like boat docks and seating. Food excellent, service great and uncramped outdoor seating next to the Fox River. Our group started with the generous Port Platter appetizer platter of calamari, seafood stuffed mushrooms and TNT shrimp. The mushrooms were delicious and perfectly cooked. The TNT shrimp had a nice flavor with a little kick to it. The calamari rings had a nice crust and properly cooked. My friend ordered the Gifts of the Sea Pasta. She grew up on the northeast coast and said it was the best she had ever had in her life. Another table-mate ordered the Chipotle Lime Bowl with beef medallions. It was delicious and the tender beef was perfectly cooked medium-rare as requested. Altogether Yummy. My wife had the pretzel crusted Walleye with baked potato and side salad. The generous fillet was perfectly cooked with a nice crusty crust and no burned spots. The baked potato was moist and fresh and the salad was fresh and delicious. I had the special. It had fillets of Mahi-Mahi, Salmon and Grouper on a bed of rice. All 3 were fresh, properly cooked and delicious. The bed of rice was moist with a light sauce. I scarfed it down and bought part of each fillet home. We finished the evening by sharing the flourless Chocolate Torte. It is as delicious and I would have ordered my own but I was soooo full. Mary, our server, did a perfect job of checking on us and offering suggestions. The Owner stopped at our table to chat and make sure everything was just right. During the summer, the seating is all outdoors on tables with umbrellas. We are definitely coming back soon.

Yelp
Me and my wife went here on 9/6/24 , I ordered the walleye fish fry and my wife ordered the fried shrimp platter, both was terrible! My fish definitely was not cooked to order , it seemed as it was pre cooked and sitting for a while , the batter was soft and mushy and the fish was not hot ! As for my wife's shrimp, that was definitely overcooked! Don't think they will be getting our business again

Yelp
We celebrated our 27th Anniversary tonight at Port Edward with dinner on the boat. I grew up going here as a kid and had not been there for 30 years. It was as amazing as it has always been and exceeded my expectations with the fantastic service from April and the kindness of a sweet woman who had worked there for 50 years named Cynthia. They went above and beyond to make sure our night was one to never forget and all of the food was delicious. I highly recommend to everyone to come and enjoy this experience for yourself! Thank you to April and Cynthia for a perfect night!

Yelp
If you love seafood....... Our son asked us to with him and his girlfriend to celebrate his 40th birthday. It had been so many years since we had been here. This restaurant has been around for years. You're welcomed upon entry. We had to wait just a few minutes. It's an interesting place. Big koi fish swimming in apond with a boat in it. I think the boat is actually a table. We sat near the buffet. Our son knew that is what he was there for. The chef cooks your steaks to order in front of you at the buffet. They went back a few times, and the dishes all looked good. They confirmed that. Back in the day, they were known for their "all you can eat buffet." My husband had a chicken sandwich. He said it was really good. I found that funny in a seafood restaurant, but whatever. I had the Chipotle Lime Shrimp bowl. It was so good. I only ate part of it. I am sure I will enjoy it later. Go try this place out. It has the feel of a supper club but definitely more upscale. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
We went to celebrate our anniversary. I read some of the reviews and was hesitant about going, but we went anyways. I'm so happy we did. The service and food were so good. My scallops were huge and delicious. They came with a salad and one side. I chose mushroom risotto were was well worth paying a little more for it. The restaurant was very busy so we had to wait for our table which was outside. Their outside area is right on the Fox River so you get a view with your meal. If you go to their website it doesn't say that only the patio is open the restaurant main dining wasn't open.

Yelp
We couldn't sit outside because of rain, but the inside seating still had great views of the river. Food was good, we shared plates and had plenty of variety and enough to eat. A classic stop.

Yelp
I've lived in "old Algonquin" for the last few years. Every Summer, you can count on every parking spot being taken by folks going to hang out down at Port Edward. Summer time is when this place really packs them in! The outdoor bar and patio is always totally packed. Many times, there is a wait to get a seat on the patio. It is worth the wait to me, I love eating outdoors. The entire area is so full of people be prepared to spend time finding parking. The paid lot is always full. The businesses own lot is always full. Street parking is taken by the condos & the barbecue restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is incredibly dated. In my opinion, this place has become more of a "watering hole" or bar. The interior has a very off odor, likely caused by the boat sitting in stagnant water indoors. It's unique but the place is very dated. The food unfortunately is nothing to write home about. I have spent a ton of time on the East Coast. In my opinion, much of what is served here is of lower quality and is certainly frozen. The prices are also absurd. I have eaten downtown at 5-Star spots and spent less. We do enjoy going to enjoy the patio and live music in the summer. Occasionally, we order the peel and eat shrimp. That's about all that is worth the cost on the menu. However, the last time the shrimp had a foul aftertaste. I am not sure if they've changed hands, but quality is nearly non-existent. I feel they're living off the name and past reputation. In my view, it's an outdoor tiki bar and watering hole. If you are a boater, they do have slips to tie onto so you can stop by for lunch. During the summer, you see many folks stopping off for lunch and a drink. It's not a bad place, but it isn't worth the price charged. The quality isn't there to justify the pricing. I don't mind paying for quality. I don't like paying top dollar for a poor quality product. As for service, it's average. Nothing special.
