Last year, I planned a 40th birthday party at Porter Kitchen & Deck, and it was an unforgettable experience. We had a group of 30 and reserved the Reserve Fireplace Lounge and Private Dining Room, an absolutely stunning space right on the water. The elegant furniture, dim lighting, and secluded setting created the perfect ambiance for a special celebration. From start to finish, the staff handled everything seamlessly. We opted for a plated dinner menu that included a shared charcuterie board, salmon, and ribeye. The ribeye was an absolute hit! Despite planning the event from another state, the process was smooth, thanks to Laura T., my main point of contact. She was incredibly detail-oriented and made sure everything was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better venue to celebrate. The combination of outstanding service, high-quality food, and beautiful decor makes Porter District and Kitchen a fantastic choice for any special occasion. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful Riverside Dining in Chicago! Porter Kitchen & Deck is a must-visit in Chicago! The riverside location offers stunning views, making it a perfect spot for a scenic meal. The atmosphere is both elegant and relaxed, with great service to match. The food was fantastic--I had the crab cakes, which were perfectly crispy and flavorful, while my husband's steak frites was cooked to perfection. Everything was delicious, and the setting made it even better. If you're looking for a great dining experience with a view, this is the place!

Great food and great service! This place is a winner. I've been to this spot for dinner a few times in Chicago. My team mentions it regularly as a reliable spot. It has delicious food, reasonable prices and is very close to our office. The restaurant is downstairs and on the river, which is just so delightful and makes for a beautiful setting. My latest visit last week was particularly good. We tried the truffle Mac and cheese. So amazing and creamy! The Kale Salad was next, and it had a delightful Asian flare with a bit of pleasant heat. Finally, we finished with the tagliatelle pasta dish, and it was so wonderful. An all around delicious meal! Our server was also absolutely delightful. Loved his food recommendations and enjoyed his conversation. All around just made a delicious food experience even better to have such a great server.

Seven the server made this experience great! Y'all gotta try the crispy shrimp. Satisfies a big ole T-Rex like myself. 7/7 time! RAWR

Had a reservation for an event. Service was great it did take a little but I wasn't surprised as there was 12 people in our group. Drinks were good, I got a non alcoholic mule and it had great flavors. Appetizer we got the caesar salad, the dressing was good and the croutons all of it went well. Perfect to share with two or even three people. The salad was chopped up into fine pieces which was kind of annoying to eat. Entree wise I got the steak frites. I made a mistake ordering medium well instead of medium rare. I didn't check was steak was being used and seemed to be flank. It was very tough it hurt my jaw chewing it. It was too late to ask for a different piece and just didn't want to make a scene. Flavors were there though but wow it was super tough. Fries on the plate were as hard as a rock. 85% we're and the rest you had to find soft ones. Also ordered the ribeye, flavoring was good and it was cooked well. No complaints. Overall I'd come back during the summer to sit outside and maybe try another dish

Porter is tucked away in the LL level of William Blair, so be prepared for a bit of searching. Once you find it, though, you'll be treated to gorgeous river views, especially enjoyable if you opt for the patio seating. The service was a bit hit-or-miss during my visit; it seemed they were understaffed as things were a tad slow. However, the staff was friendly despite the challenges. Now, onto the food - the burger was fantastic, and I highly recommend splurging on the truffle fries; they're absolutely worth it. The addition of bacon was a standout, adding that extra savory kick to the meal. One thing that caught me off guard was the payment process, which was done through a QR code. It would have been helpful if this was mentioned upfront to save some waiting time. Inside, Porter is charmingly modern with a pleasing aesthetic that complements its riverside location. Overall, despite some service hiccups, Porter delivers where it counts: delicious food and a lovely atmosphere.

I wanted to love this spot since it's right on the water. The view is the best part of this place. When my fiance and I went, it was around 4 pm so it was pretty empty. I got the steak frites and honestly, I thought the steak was just okay. Fries didn't have much salt and the steak was almost too salty. He got the pasta and said it was nothing special. I wouldn't rush back here but it was nice to try out.

The chicken and Brussel sprouts were delicious! The broccolini was a little bit bland and the sliders were chewy, but overall I would rate this restaurant a 7/10. I would definitely get the chicken and Brussel sprouts again as they were very flavorful. The server was great.

I had a fantastic time at Porter Kitchen and Deck! I couldn't resist ordering their crispy brick chicken - it comes with arugula and potatoes and is bursting with delicious Southern comfort flavors. The dish is priced at $25, and although the portion was a bit on the small side, the stunning view more than makes up for it. The best part? You can dress casually or go all out to match the great atmosphere!

My wife and I took a river cruise in Chicago and she wanted to dine at one of the restaurants along the river afterward. She looked on yelp for one that we might be able to afford and judging by yelp's dollar signs, this restaurant was one of the few. We walked quite a ways to get here, but it was worth it. We sat outside because the moon was full and the weather was perfect. We were seated immediately along the river. The views were amazing, even at night. We were given water and menus. Our waiters were extremely friendly and thoughtful. My wife requested sliders and a shrimp appetizer. We also requested some drinks. My drink of choice was an amaretto sour, which was just okay. I think it was a little unbalanced as I didn't taste much amaretto. It was still yummy, however. A little while later, the sliders arrived. They had filet mignon on them and they were delicious. The shrimp appetizer was delicious and bold tasting at first, but I found myself getting tired of the flavor by the time we were done eating it. Overall, our visit was excellent. Great food, great service, great views, and decent prices.

The review is for Gavin our waiter and Gavin alone! In the city or chicago I have never had better service than here at Porter Kitchen! Gavin was attentive, kind, HILARIOUS, and everything in between! I chose to celebrate my birthday here and Gavin made it one I will never forget!!!! He needs a promotion!! The ambiance is gorgeous, right by the water and the food came out hot and delicious! We got a few of the appetizers. I would come back to dine at Gavin's table any day

I met an out of town friend there for lunch a few weeks back and I can say that will be the last time I go there. Our service was not great - and felt we needed to keep flagging her down for a refill of pop or for our check. For food - we each got the brussel sprouts salad. It was tasteless - little dressing and just dry overall. The only redeeming trait of the meal was being able to sit outside overlooking the river.

Had a work party here, all the appetizers were great! The servers were good about getting drink orders to you in a room full of chaos, although another bar in the party room may have served them well, because drinks could take a while. Would definitely have another party here.

Planned a surprise party for a friend and truly could not have picked a better restaurant. A hidden and underrated gem in Chicago. If you need a place for a birthday that has good food and impeccable service look no further than this restaurant. Has an amazing view of the river and downtown area. Our server was Rayshawn (not sure if I spelled that correctly) he was a dream. So attentive and helpful. Everyone at this restaurant is very good. They really helped us pull off a great birthday surprise. We could not have asked for a better experience. Food and service were top tier. I can't wait to go back. I'd come back for the pita and hummus alone-best I've ever tasted. Only downside was I forgot my left over steak and it was too late to go back to get it.

This restaurant is fantastic!! I absolutely loved the ambiance and the views of the river. The food is high quality while being reasonably priced which is great for a riverfront restaurant. Definitely would go again!

Ambiance and service are great here (thank you, Alex!). Food and wine I would say were just okay. Good but nothing I would ever crave and return for. I had the crab cakes as my entree which were good but I have had better. Bill was reasonable for what we had. Nice location to go to before the Lyric Opera but that's about it.

Had a work dinner here Tuesday night with about 40 people. We had the private room off the entrance which was quite nice. Our waiter was attentive, funny and charming. Food was great. Pita (!!!) and hummus was the best I ever had. Ravioli and cheesecake were amazing. The only complaint I had is that it took quite awhile for the food to come out in between courses. Would probably have dinner here again, though. Everything was delicious!

Great restaurant for restaurant week! Dinner was amazing Excellent cauliflower and shrimp apps, steak frites-great, and finished off with an epic cheesecake (and wine). Highly recommend. Great ambiance and service. Will be back!

Rigatoni = NOT GOOD. It is $25 for boiled pasta, red sauce from a jar and overcooked meat. Not enough cheese. cauliflower was good Fries = soggy Drinks = strong Go for the vibes and views and prob happy hour deals not for the food

We did a long walk on weird roads to be able to make it here! I am so glad we did. :) The reason we chose this restaurant is because it is on the way to the Union station. We were visiting Chicago and wanted to have dinner before our train. This place is right on the river with a beautiful view, surrounded by beautiful buildings. It is at that unique triangular based building 150 N Riverside. There is a walk path of another business on top of Porter restaurant and there were guys getting ready to use power washers to clean the ground. We saw they were getting ready when we were on the way to the restaurant. Then we sat right by the river, and they began cleaning and we got little soapy water splashes all over us. Our umbrella wasn't enough to protect us and our drinks. Our waiter was very kind and helpful about it, he immediately replaced our drinks with the new ones. This restaurant looks fancy and we were expecting high prices or small portions. But no. Portions are big, prices are great! Both fried chicken and steak burgers, fries, Gem salad were so delicious! We will definitely come back to try all the other options they have such as board food & bites and cocktails!

Beautiful atmosphere, river seating, gorgeous looking interior. Great staff, great bartender and server. Food is mediocre. The deviled eggs were over cooked which made them rubbery, the asparagus was an interesting choice but had no flavor, and the whole dish was underwhelming. The whipped burrata was delicious, great choice in dressed greens, vinegar bit through the sweetness of the honey and cheese and the bread was a nice crisp without hurting your mouth. The sliders were the best thing we ate, perfectly cooked and seasoned, great bun choice, and the texture wasn't chewy. The fries were good but when you use pecorino as it's not a very good melting cheese it just clumped on-top of the fries in the hot window and dried out and was not good. The turkey club was great, healthy portions but proper ratios of everything, and love a pickle on the side..the soup was disappointing, seemed homemade in the description but the flavor tastes like the sauce in spaghetti Os with parsley in it. Did not eat the rest of it after a few bites..would not recommend

Visiting the city for the first time, this was the first restaurant we tried. I wanted somewhere by the water and a yummy lunch spot, this place surpassed it. Cami was our server and gave us all the pointers for bars, activities and food spots. We split the sliders and the lobster roll. Both were insanely good. Sliders were so tender and packed with flavor, the lobster roll was buttery and packed with lobster meat. HIGHLY recommend!!

Food was pretty good but the view was better. The restaurant is tucked away, I wouldn't have found it without a good Apple Maps search. The riverfront balcony seating was the best part. Our waitress was good, service overall was pleasant. My husband got the steak sliders and gave them a 5/10 because the meat wasn't very much and didn't have a great taste (was bland). Fries were DELICIOUS! Get those! I got the fish tacos and really like them, they were fresh and had good flavor. We got a couple drinks which were tasty but mostly ice so expensive for what you got.

Went for business dinner in private room. I am only giving this two stars bc the server was extremely attentive and the view of the river was beautiful from the private room. We had family style ordered by the host. Every single item was the most basic thing I've had since I was a child ordering ofd kids's menu. Almost not edible. Disgusting. See photo- looks like the host ordered off the children's menu. I don't know how long this place has been here, but I've had better meals at Shoney's.

Pleasant surprise! I had been meaning to try porter for a while but didn't get a chance to until very recently. And I was pleasantly surprised at everything including the service, the ambiance and the food. We got the brick chicken and it was plenty of food for dinner. The chicken was crispy, juicy and tender. I highly recommend this. The drink I had (which I believe was called loose goose) was also delicious. The service was also nice. The ambiance was my favorite part of the restaurant though. I think this place is still a hidden gem so it wasn't too crowded and the river and skyline view we got by the window was great. I would certainly go back.

I've been here twice - once for a date with my boyfriend in the summer time and another time for drinks & small bites with my best friend in the winer time. This restaurant is the perfect place for both occasions and seasons! I can't even begin to explain how difficult it was for my boyfriend and I to find Porter Kitchen and Deck my first time here, only to find it be embarrassingly easy to access! The restaurant located inside of another bigger building; right when you enter the building, turn right to access the first set of elevators and it's labeled which to take for Porter's. Easy peasy! There's also bathrooms right outside the restaurant which is nice. The outside deck is really pretty to sit outside during the nice weather time. I've sat both outside and inside, and I truly liked both setting. It's dimly lit inside during dinner time and gives it a calm, sexy vibe. The service here both times was okay - the first time our server messed up both our orders and didn't come around often, my more recent encounter our server didn't come around too often either. The food here is yummy! I think they might've changed ownership or partnered with a different restaurant group my second time around because the menu looked different, had different food items, and was priced less than it used to be. I recommend their crispy shrimp, which was the best meal I've gotten here. The dishes I had my first time around (a steak and a signature salad) are no longer on the menu and were both alright. The crab dip was hot and pretty good, but super fishy. My more recent time was a better experience than my first! The prices are above average but still not bad. I like their cocktails, too (if you've been to Benchmark in the city, they have almost identical drinks since they're the same restaurant group). I'd come here again to try other dishes and drinks!

Came here with friends to hang out and get dinner before our architecture river cruise! We were excited due to seeing some videos on instagram recommending this spot and showing off its food and drinks. Check in was easy and the restaurant was very clean, friendly and had a nice ambiance. We were seated fairly quickly and our server came and greeted us. He was exceptionally delightful and helpful. We appreciated the quality of his service greatly. For food, we ordered a variety of dishes among the 6 of us. For appetizers we got the Grilled Pita & Hummus, Crispy Shrimp & Sweet Potato wedges. For Entree's we got the Spicy Rigatoni, Lobster Roll, 2 Crispy Brick Chickens, Mushroom Risotto and Seared Scallops. Also ordered sides of bacon and truffle mac & cheese. All 3 of the appetizers were amazingly well done. They tasted delicious and were great in presentation and taste. The entrees we had multiple hits and misses. Our hits per the group were Mushroom Risotto and Seared Scallop. The Crispy Brick Chicken was definitely good but nothing exceptional, would have liked other flavors besides just salt. The Spicy Rigatoni and Lobster Rolls fell flat for our group and we didn't find it that great. We also got some drinks - 2 Strawberry Basil Smashes, Loose Goose and Diablo. We enjoyed the drinks and thought they tasted great. Overall, would say the restaurant itself is quite nice with great ambiance and service. We're used to stronger flavors for our food so could be a reason the food somewhat fell flat for us. Does have a very good view of the river though, so isn't a bad option for some nice views.

This is a long overdue review since I have visited Porter Kitchen on several occasions in the last 3-4 years. My first trip was with my wife for happy hour at their outdoor seating to enjoy beautiful views of the Chicago river and cocktails and apps. This was a while ago and I still recall I had their Old Fashion and beef filet sliders with fries. The sliders are good even today! Fast forward 3 years and I have been to Porters for several work lunches and dinners and the experience has always been consistent. I do gravitate towards getting their salmon and it's always prepared medium rare to my specification to not dry it out. Porter is part of their enterprise wide My4C loyalty point system. I had an issue once redeeming points and they took care of it by adjusting my CC charge. Extra star for that.

Hosted a team dinner here on a Tuesday night. I had nothing to do with the venue, my EA booked based on recos she's gotten. All the places I suggested closer to the office didn't have anything open The space is nice, directly level with, and on, the Chicago River in West Loop. If you're facing the river, you might find yourself gazing at one of the many Chicago boat tours, or crazy kayakers, or the CTA L train off in the distance. You could say the food is American, anyone should be able to find something to eat from the menu - which you need to have your phone out to scan a QR code. Check with the server on menu changes, at just 6:45, they were out of Salmon and gnocchi. We ordered apps to split - carrots, cauliflower, burrata, hummus/pita points, and deviled eggs. All were good. For an entree, I ordered a soup and a salad. The cup of tomato soup wasn't that good. The shaved Brussels salad was enormous. At one point I felt like a cow eating roughage barely making a dent in the trough of the salad bowl - while everyone else was finished with their meals. Manager accidentally extra billed my card twice, the mobile app alerted me, and he fixed it. Easy approachable, not-risky, place.

We visited at 830p on a Saturday night and the place was virtually empty. We almost decided to forego the whole dinner due to the parking nightmare. $13 + 2 processing fee that you have to download and app to book. And it wasn't explained that there is no valet after 7pm so you have to get out of your car to push the intercom for access. Nonetheless, we were seated by the windows since it was a chilly night. Although many people were outdoors. Either way, excellent views. Our server Gavin was phenomenal, truly the highlight of the evening with his energy, comedy and kindness. We ordered the pomegranate margaritas which were tasty but hardly any alcohol. The cauliflower was ok, not enough of it on the platter compared to the bed of couscous and cashews. Also the sauce was a bit overpowering. The shrimp were very small but flavorful, yet again, too much going on with the sauce after a few bites. We skipped ordering entrees because of the less than impressive apps, but did opt for fries after sitting so long and enjoying each others company. My date had truffle fries which looked good but I didn't taste. I ordered sweet potato fries which were surprisingly loaded with kale and sunflower seeds. Not bad but also not something I could eat a lot of thanks to all the flavors combined. Glad for the experience when intentionally trying something new, but we won't be back. Except maybe to hang with Gavin ha!

Views were amazing!! I had such high hopes reading the reviews. To my surprise the food was super mid. Expensive and tasteless /: I would only come here for the views and happy hour. Don't come hungry lol

If you want to get food at a restaurant with a great view, and don't really care about the quality and price of food you're eating, porters is the perfect restaurant for you! The ingredients of the dishes do not complement each other well and proportions are small for the price you are paying. The restaurant was nice and had a great view of the river.

It was our first time here and Julio was so amazing!!!! He cheered us on while we were struggling thru the giant sundae and gave us the best drink recommendation (I love margaritas and I love pomegranate), and he was so attentive and great all around so 10/10 no notes. Can't wait to come back again!!!!!

I tried Porter new burrata and I don't like it, the texture of the cheese is not pleasant. I think the previous one was better. The drink and another food is very delicious!! Strawberry Basil Smash is always a good choice!!

Food was flavorful. Only thing is the bread was still cooking so I didn't get to enjoy that. Our server was very attentive and funny. We were seated outside so we got to enjoy the river view. Definitely a must try!

First time patron last week. Mark, the bartender, was great. The man know how to pour a drink. You will be hard pressed to find a more attentive and experienced bartender. Steak Frites was great, as well. Although the portion size a tad smaller than some of the competition (Taureaux Tavern, The Gage, Bistro Monadnock), but it is also a few dollars cheaper. Disappointing to hear Four Corners hosted a private event the evening prior for Nancy Pelosi and Lori "Larry" Lightfoot. Lightfoot single-handedly and unilaterally practically destroyed the hospitality and fitness industries in this town during the Wuhan virus. So the group turns around and accommodates her? Ironic to then find a 3% surcharge on the bill due to "rising costs." Shameful.

Great service, beautiful atmosphere overlooking the water. Our server brought out dessert because we were there for a bachelorette party.

Great food drinks and service. Got the brick chicken and cheese cake. Our waitress Kami was amazing and the bus boy was very attentive.

TLDR; this place is a tourist trap. Only recommend for drinks with the view I'm honestly surprised this place has as good reviews as it does. Our experience here reminded us of an episode of Kitchen Nightmare. The drinks and views were good. We came here to celebrate a birthday. The host who sat us was quite curt and rude. We ordered our appetizers and entrees at the same time, but the entrees arrived before we had even had a chance to start with the appetizers. There was almost no room on the table so the servers started removing our plates that we were using. The food itself had no flavor. There seemed to be a change to the gnocchi dish we ordered, which we ordered because it was vegetarian and didn't list any of the foods that one of our members was allergic to. He ended up having a reaction and couldn't eat his dish. We weren't asked about any dietary restrictions and after our earlier experiences with the service, we didn't want to make a big deal out of it and decided we'd make up for it by going to Small Cheval upstairs. The ambiance of the place feels as though it should be higher end, but we've had better service at Denny's. The drinking water was warm and the way the servers poured the water was inelegant. We paid almost $100 a person when we could have had a better experience elsewhere for less than half the price. I was originally excited to bring my in-laws here or to come here for a date night, but now I can definitely say this is one of those places you should avoid. There are many better places along the river with better food, drinks, and service.

Great spot by the river. Came in on a Saturday with coworkers post Tradeshow. Great ambiance and service was great. They did run out of ribeye so opted for a salad. Interesting that when I was calling to reserve a table it kept going to voicemail so we just did a walk in and luckily it wasn't busy probably because no one is picking up the phone to take reservations. Unable to reserve through open table or their other affiliate.

We came in on a Friday night with reservations and were seated immediately at a table looking out at the river-such a great view! We started off dinner with the Burrata which was amazing and I recommend. The focaccia bread was the perfect amount of crispy but soft and the burrata was fresh and delicious. For our entrees we ordered the Rib-eye and Seared White Fish. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection and delicious! However, I do wish I ordered something else instead of the Fish..it was pretty bony and just not what I was expecting unfortunately. But overall I think this is a good date night spot, our waitress was attentive and helpful and the price point for a river-view restaurant is great!

The ambience of this place is what makes the 4 star review. I love the Riverside view, and I'm sure in the summers, the Riverside patio is amazing. The food however, was mediocre for the price. The star of the show, aside from the riverside view would be the "pull apart bread" and it's side kick honey butter. The bread was so warm and soothing along with the honey butter they just melt in your mouth. I would eat 2 pounds of this! The bread is lightly salted, which adds a unique taste. For our entrees, we shared the steak frites (medium rare) and the Porter cheeseburger (medium). The steak frites was alright, nothing special for the price. I did not taste any seasoning, which was a tad disappointing and made the steak bland overall. The fries were good, but you must be really terrible for me to give you a 1 star on your fries making skills ;) The Porter Cheeseburger was an average burger, but for the price, I wouldn't order it again. There are a lot of other burgers out there with this price that will knock your socks off. This one did not make the list. I think this place would be a great place for drinks after work, but definitely not the best place for dinner.

Came for some dinner and drinks and Gavin, our server, exceeded expectations! We've heard such good things about Porter and could not recommend it more. The crispy shrimp was divine as well as their truffle fries and mac and cheese was delicious. Cannot wait to come back!

Drink was good, shrimp appetizer was delicious, staff didn't clean dirty dishes off tables so when our food came out the person had to hold our food in one hand while clearing the several plates with the other. Unfortunately the same thing happened to the table next to us. Scallops were just ok. Great river view.

Overall it was an excellent experience dining here. The gem salad, shrimp and Mac n cheese were delicious! Gavin was the most amazing waiter. He provided exceptional customer service and hospitality. Next time I'm in Chicago I will definitely be dining here again!

Nice & classic, very well done MARTINIS - choose from gin/vermouth/vodka + Blue cheese olives/lemon + on the rocks/shaken / dirty / filthy we didn't order this but they have a massive menu for martinis , done YOUR way. I know a lot of people like this. Appetizers: PULL APART BREAD + HONEY BUTTER - topped with sea salt and homemade (only available during dinner). I was surprised when the waiter Heather recommended this, not knowing what I was getting into. But WOW you HAVE TO get this. Warm fluffy bread with a crispy skin & soft middle, served in a mini cast iron - dip in the honey butter CRISPY SHRIMP - ginger soy glaze + miso aioli, sesame, scallion. Really crispy with dollops of aioli to (choose your own adventure). Amazing balance of sweet & umami, literally finished this in ten minutes (I used the serving spoon to eat ) GRILLED PITA & HUMMUS - don't be fooled. They have FLUFFY pita that has the right chew & softness, almost half-inch thick. The hummus had fennel, red onion, tomato, lemon, & sumac. Just WOW packed, I'd order a bunch of this with a big table (friends/business) Mains: LOBSTER ROLL - I've had a lot of lobster rolls in my life. Used to live in Boston this is by far the most packed with lobster. It goes deeeeppp - Simple with dijonaise, clarified butter (I poured a lot ), @oldbay_seasoning , & a new england roll.
