The 15 Best Breweries In Boston 2024

"Though its taproom is the newest addition to Somerville, the people behind this brewery have been in the craft beer industry for a long time as contract brewers, who make beer or alcoholic beverages for other brands. The location is a bit tucked away behind a chocolate factory, but the space is open and airy, making it great for a group of friends and some board games. Their German-style pilsner is light, crispy, and adeptly hopped, and you can't go wrong with any Belgian blondes like the Fuzzy Logic. You can also get top-notch birria tacos and nachos from Taqueria El Barrio, which has taken up residence in the brewery. " - valerie li stack

We Love portico! The vibe is very fun and the owners are so nice. Great staff, delicious food onsite (Taqueria El Barrio!) And of course, great beer! It’s also a perfect place for a party… while we were there a baby shower was going on, and it seemed like an amazing space for it!

This was my third visit to this place. Once on my own for apps, second for a company function and this time I went there for a hot dog to go. Service was a bit slow but the person that took my order was nice but was too chatty and very slow to see me trying to get her attention to order, pay, give me the food long after it came out. There was only one patron at the bar hut 2 people working and the third sitting at the bar. The cook kept touching her hair with no hair net nor gloves on. She at least used tongs on the hotdog but not the bread so I didn't eat the bread. There was what looked like a middle aged woman sitting at the bar that kept staring at me and not in a flattering way, she soon got up and went behind the bar to work. Very unfriendly and seemed to have an attitude with me for reasons unknown to me. Then, when I got my hot dog to go, there were no condiments in the box. So this lady with an attitude was the only one near for me to ask for ketchup. She said without even looking up they don't have ketchup. I thought it was odd as I've ordered a hotdog there before and got ketchup. When I questioned it asking if she was sure cause they are selling hotdogs so maybe there is some around. She said let me ask the kitchen and then came back and said we dont have any. She was very cold in her delivery but that's the vibe I got from her as soon as I walked in and she kept staring. No worries I won't return! I won't spend my money there as I've been disappointed twice now after going there. First, with the chicken quesadeliia for like $15 that was the size of a small grilled cheese sandwich and it tasted horrible. I prefer cooks not touchng their hair and pulling up their pants every minute while preparing my food and especially with no gloves on. Their grape spritzer is not for me but if you like beer it may be the place for you. To the establishment , No worries I won't return! Now I see why my coworkers frown anytime someone mentions the idea of going there for drinks and apps.

Great service and beer! I love the indoor outdoor feel and so my games and things to do for kids! The courtyard area is nice and the street is quiet which makes for a nice gathering space.

One of the best spots around here, so much that I nearly don't want to leave a review to keep it less crowded! Beer is good, food is good, staff is super friendly, place is super kid friendly, bathrooms were clean every time I went... They have games to play with, they have a nice outdoor space and thy are right on a green space so kids (and adults) can run around, come by bike etc.

Love this place! A more modern looking brewery with tons of windows, natural light, barely seating as well as tables. It's connected to a hotel. They have Legos to play and build with while you drink a beer. They also have old school Mario video games to play which was fun. Beer was good great find right outside of Boston!

Had a great few hours here on a beautiful day with the open air/bay doors open. Tried a bunch of beers and they were all good. Fuzzy Logic Belgian Ale was my fave… Also tried some food items and was excited to see Pickles as a stand alone menu item 😂🤣. Wings and garlic knots were excellent as well. Great relaxed environment with friendly and helpful staff… will definitely be making this a regular spot.

I’ve been going here since it opened. Great beer, super friendly staff, cool music, good decor and even fun video games to play. But after today, I’m not going back. I counted 20 children and 15 adults when I walked in. Constant screaming. 2 of the children were even sitting at the bar. The staff asked them to attend to their kids and the parents rolled their eyes. None of the kids were even writhing 20 feet of an adult. It was chaos. I left with a headache from all the screaming kids.

After a tour at the near-by Taza Chocolate Factory, I visited Portico Brewing in Somerville. The spacious, modern taproom at 101 South Street features floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the area with natural light. Entertainment options include a variety of great Nintendo 64 games and bowls of LEGO bricks at the bar, adding a playful touch. The LEGO-crafted tap handles, one a winner from a competition, further enhance the unique ambiance. Co-founders Alex and Alex were exceptionally welcoming, engaging with all patrons. Bartender Anna expertly guided me through their diverse beer selection, which includes lagers, IPAs, and a rich stout; each brew was flavorful and well-crafted. Originally planning for a single drink, I was enticed to stay longer and enjoy dinner. The in-house taqueria, Taqueria El Barrio, serves generous portions of nachos, delicious tortas, and a variety of mouth-watering tacos that perfectly complement the beers. Portico Brewing has become a new favorite spot, offering an inviting atmosphere, engaging activities, exceptional staff, and delicious food and drinks. I look forward to many more visits.

Yelp
This brewery seems to be semi new. The space is huge and very clean. They have like bowls of legos that you can build with at the bar. Staff is friendly. They have bar seats, long tables with chairs and sitting area with couches i believe and more tables. They also have a great outdoor space where you could play cornhole or just enjoy your food and drinks. Highly recommend checking it out. Though it is kind of hidden but once you see it you cant miss it.

Yelp
We came for the opening party on April 15th! It was a fun time and there were tons of people. We were able to get a table and hang out for a few hours. The staff were super friendly and definitely a little overwhelmed. Cute place & loved the fuzzy logic (pretty sure that was what we were drinking). There was a kink in the tap line for the Belgian beer we were drinking which caused a delay in orders for a bit. Overall, it was a great party and we will definitely be back. We didn't have food but there was pizza and wings available.

Yelp
Came here on an early Saturday evening to meet up with a few friends. The brewery is part of a new development in Somerville. They have a large outdoor patio area in front facing the street but the actual entrance is around the corner. The inside was very clean and modern looking. It was busy but not too crowded and we were able to grab a table outside after a few minutes. We all got a beer flight. Everyone's favorite was their Belgian ale, Fuzzy Logic, which unfortunately was not available at the time for to go. All the beers were good and ordering food online on their website was very easy. The food was alright. The square slice of pizza was really a big hunk of bread. A fun spot to hang out with friends and have some beer.

Yelp
Met a friend here for a Friday early evening drink before dinner, and had a great experience. The bartender was incredibly nice, the space is enormous and the ambience was nice. I tried both the 'Fuzzy Logic' and the 'Luzzy Fogic' which were tasty and well balanced. I ended up getting dinner at Pomodoro inside, and tried a slice of the traditional pizza and a half chicken salad sandwich, which both were really solid. Fantastic outdoor space to boot.
