Atlanta’s Most Exciting Summer Restaurant Openings - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Portillo's, known for its Chicago-style hotdogs and Italian beef sandwiches, is opening its first restaurant in the Southeast. The new Kennesaw location will have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as its signature double drive-thru lanes. No word if we have to refer to sodas as "pop" here." - jacinta howard, juli horsford

Chicago Hot Dog Chain Portillo’s Is Considering Expanding to Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"A Chicago-born fast-casual chain that began in 1963 with a hot dog stand in Villa Park and has since grown into a multi-location, billion-dollar brand. It’s best known for Chicago-style hot dogs (yellow mustard, relish, celery salt, chopped onions, tomatoes, pickle spear, and peppers), chili dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, cheese fries, thick shakes, and chocolate cake. The company is actively expanding in the Southeast—eyeing the Atlanta metro and state of Georgia with consideration to open roughly six to eight restaurants within a single metropolitan area—while also targeting Houston, Nevada, and Colorado; recent openings (including a January debut in the Dallas area) drew hour‑long lines and heavy demand. Specific Atlanta locations and an official opening date have not been announced." - Beth McKibben

Huge fan of Portillo’s and can’t wait for the opening. Here’s a photo I took on Saturday September 20th. Things are progressing and I hope they open by end of October.

I am from Chicago and Portillo's is one of my absolute favorites. I already know that the food and service will be good. The Chicago dogs and Italian beef sandwiches are to die for and I can't wait for the cake shakes. I'm so excited for a little taste of home to open here!!!

I'm a big fan of Portillo's and I'm sure this one will be excellent! I'm hoping to catch their grand opening now that one is opening close to home. I actually scheduled a family vacation around their first restaurant opening in Florida several years back, and try to catch any Portillo's along the way on my road trips.

I've lived even the first one opened, I'm 70 now, and I was in high-school....well, I can only say.. that they have the best beefs sandwiches, the best I enjoy is the combo Italian beef and Italian sausage...don't forget 😋 to mention dip the bread, you won't be sorry...and if you like hot dogs? The best! Can't wait, to taste my favorite restaurant again....the old famous Chicago dog.....😋 yum! Can't wait.

My dad’s side of the family is from Chicago. So I’ve been going there every year since I was little. Portillo’s has always been our first stop to eat every single time. I’m extremely excited there will be a location in Georgia and less than 30 min from me too! As soon as this location opens I’m coming!!! 😋😍

Waiting patiently. For the people giving a one star review because they aren’t open is wild. I am a business owner I would never tarnish a business unless it’s warranted. Do you know how many permits and inspections you have to go through to open up a business? Think twice before you start writing negative reviews. It’s how most of us take care our families

Georgia is in for a treat!! Born and raised Chicago! We've been in GA for almost 4 years and the one thing we miss is the food! I can't wait to have Italian beefs and a good hot dog. The burgers and chili dogs too!!! Yum!! I'm sooo excited!!!

I was born and raised in the Chicago area and old enough to remember going to the original dog house in Villa Park and that’s when I first met Dick Portillo at the age of 7. My father did some remodeling for Dick when he opened his first brick and mortar store, an old A&W I believe it was. I had been going to Portillo’s ever since. I miss my Portillo’s when we moved to Georgia 8 years ago and only get it maybe every other year, so depressing. Can’t wait until this one opens up, I’ll take the 90 minute drive down just to get my beefs and dogs. Then can’t wait until Buford opens up as that’s only 35 minutes from me. It will be happy days again.
