I can't speak to what they sell, other then the showroom is beautiful! I had some knives sharpened here. I felt the fee was pretty reasonable and the turn around time was a day. I have some nice knives and some cheapo knives. I don't think they care what you have...they sharpen them all. I even had a serrated knife sharpened. Great place! Friendly and reasonable! Maybe I'll shop for some nicer equipment here son

I went in yesterday to get a replacement chef's knife (a Wusthof beast we've had for a decade+) for my wife for Christmas. I was frankly intimidated bc I don't know beans about knives and assumed my budget ($50-$100) wouldn't be a good fit. I was so incredibly wrong — dude was super nice, helpful, and my budget totally worked. I landed with a Japanese knife I can't pronounce that will last for years. Also learned they do knife sharpening and have a bunch of cool chef/knife gear like knife rolls, cutting boards, etc.

Got my knives sharpened here and they are incredible!! 24 hour turn around! I honestly never sharpen my knives but after getting them done here I’m definitely gonna come back regularly!

Fantastic experience! This locally owned business was started over a decade ago. Referred to as “The Knife Guys” by their family and friends. They took a keen interest into all components of the knife from a culinary perspective. This place is literally a knife museum. There are between 500-700 knives for purchase at any given time. Come in and they will take great care in helping you pick the knife that is correct for you in the right price range. Knife sharpening- Thumbs up on pricing!! Don’t be afraid of sharp knives. Dull ones are a hazard. Home cooks on average get their knives sharpened 2-3 times a year. Professional chefs sharpen once a week. They have a 24 hour turn around time and do an amazing job. You’ll be happy you brought your knives in here.

You one stop knife shop! Very knowledgeable staff and great service. It’s good to have some background knowledge of chef knives before stopping in, mainly because you can dive in to pick a knife instead of trying all knives on the shelves. They gots hundreds of knives here! Some mentioned knives are expensive here, but they actually sell the same knife style for various price.

Happened to stroll into this place unexpectedly as I was in the area. Absolutely stunning collection of knives the gentlemen who work here had alot of knowledge of the knives and even offered me to look at some. I had to resist temptation of buying one I was very close. Theyre all so cool.

Excellent knife shop and even better sharpening shop in Portland. The prices are fair (no need to go to the internet), and the knife sharpening class was lots of fun. Highly recomended. Unlike many stores,t hey are not trying to sell you the most expensive stuff that you do not need.

I nearly bought myself new knives until I decided to take a chance based on a recommendation. I have five basically brand new knives overnight. I'm so excited. I dropped my knives off at 3 pm and they were ready by noon the next day and only $5 each. They're so sharp! I'm so excited to cook again!

it breaks my heart to have to write a negative review about a small business. But these guys ruined my expensive Mac knife. It's looks like a cleaver and had a blunt curved edge. When they sharpened it, they shaved off this edge and gave it different profile. It ruins the feng shui of the knife. The knife also has scratch marks from the sharpening, which I've never had with any of my knives. I would've been mollif if they had apologized to me, but the only comment was well it's still functional. It's still functional, but I want to cry every time I look at it and remember the fine knife I used to have.

Our Wusthof kitchen knives were seriously overdue for a sharpening, so I took them by Portland Knife House on a weekday afternoon, shortly before they closed for the day. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the store itself is very cool. (For what it's worth.) Our knives were ready the next day, and these guys did an AMAZING job with them. It's a genuine pleasure using a newly sharpened knife! I'm going to add a calendar reminder to myself to do this twice a year from now on.

Can't speak to their kitchen knife selection but they had a selection of quality folding knives (particularly spyderco which I was looking for). Staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable both times going in. You get greeted pretty much right as walking in. Four stars only because they don't have Saturday hours so it is quite difficult to get there. Even just very limited sat hours to where you could do a drop off for sharpening then pick up the following sat would be great. Also the prices are clearly displayed which is a huge help.

They did a great job, and turn around time was overnight. Centrally located; have to add more words to satisfy this form!!

Did a great job sharpening my kitchen knife. Also told me that my supposedly nice knife is counterfeit. Last time I buy a knife on Amazon. When my kitchen knife inevitably loses its edge again, I'll probably just buy a nicer one from them.

First: The knives are sharp. Seems basic, but they did a great job for a good price. Very friendly and safe shop good distancing and masks.

The Portland knife House did a great job sharpening on my kitchen Steele. I'd recommend them to anybody who is serious about their cutting instruments. And fast! Turned around my dozen knives in a day.

They are better than you and they know it. Despite what research you have done, it's wrong. Honesty I just wish they had listened to me for a few moments to fond out what I was looking for. I work as a cook at a very nice resturant and was looking to up grade, my knife VITAL!! I felt belittled and not important, when I did get a chance speak I was immediately told "that information was wrong". So at the recommendation of my chef I went to bed bath and beyond got a high quality German chef knife and had a wonderful experience. Also saved 30$

Came here to buy a nice chef's knife as a gift for my partner. I let them know we were home cooks and looking for a nice upgrade. My budget was $200. I was hoping for some guidance and was surprised by how condescending the salesperson was. I left feeling like an idiot for asking questions about the products and asking for their expertise. I asked if I should buy a whetstone for sharpening and was told buying that for an amateur was like gifting an art set to someone who has never done art. Not the best analogy but I got the message. I don't recommend this place, the staff is unapproachable for those who are not knife experts.

A very knowledgeable staff and an amazing selection. Knife man took at least 30 minutes helping me select a knife. I'm a chef and I was expecting to throw down some big money. Excellent selection of knives. I came in to sharpen my knives (which they did an awesome job on) and bought three beautiful new knives. The selection was outstanding. So many special Japanese knives and the staff is very knowledgeable. They even have custom capabilities. Great place for a special gift. Amazing find in Portland!! Really - it's a must visit.

Fast service, knowledgeable people. Took my embarrassingly full kitchen knives in to sharpen on a Friday afternoon. Monday they were ready and for $25 ($5 per knife) these puppies could cut through glass! Ok, maybe not but they're totally usable again and I couldn't be happier!

I've paid several visit's to Portland Knife and each visit has left me impressed and in awe each time I have left. I've purchased a stone and Deba knife from Eli and also solicited a sharpening service from him. He went out of his way to show me the progression results of my new stone with ONE I HAD NOT PURCHASED FROM HIM and gave me sharpening advice. On another visit I picked up my Deba and this thing is the most ridiculous sharp piece of cutlery that I've ever held!! His sharpening work is masterful and full details as he even eroded the choil of the knife so that it would be more ergonomically comfortable to hold!! This man is a master of his craft and it shows clearly in the work that he produces! If you have not had a sharpening service done by him or purchased a knife from him I guarantee your life WOULD BE THAT much better for no matter the price! Thank you for your outstanding business Eli and I would highly recommend you who reads this to experience how much more enjoyable being in the kitchen is after a sharpening service by a master!

My boyfriend brought me here as a surprise to pick out a knife for my birthday. I had no idea what I wanted besides it being a 8" chef knife. The staff here are super helpful and patient, and lined a bunch of knives up in our price range for me to look at. They also custom fit a wooden sheath for my new beautiful knife. I would highly recommend visiting here.

Dropped off my knives for their pre-Thanksgiving sharpening yesterday, and picked them up today. 24 hour turn around time. That sounds just about right. In addition to sharpening, this place also sells quite the collection of kitchen knives, carrying cases, aprons, and other classic kitchen tools. They also offer knife sharpening classes for $125/person in a 3 hour group-class environment. Super friendly folks behind the counter. This was a good find for sure.

Great selection & educated staff. There were several customers in the shop during my visit and I felt everyone was cared for during my visit. I came in knowing what I was looking for but if you have questions, the team there are very kind and willing to lend a helping hand. I found out they have started an new product line during my visit one of their new models was really beautiful. The selection was very ample and made me want to return again for my next purchase. I heard about this shop from a friend, and I will definitely be telling more people to check this place out.

They don't honor their return policy. I went in and selected a $360 chef's knife. They only had a display model in stock, but the sales person assured me that it was just as good as a new knife. I took it home and tried to cut some mushrooms and tomatoes. I was disappointed to find that my new expensive knife did not seem very sharp. In fact, my $40 Victorinox knife from Amazon did a much better job. I took the knife back, in it's original condition and packaging, within their stated 14-day return period. They refused to take it back, saying they don't take back used knives and that the knife I was trying to return had edge damage (Hello! It had edge damage because it was a display model!) If you buy a knife here, consider the sale final.

Knowledgeable and helpful staff, went back to buy more. Great selection of knives, both in terms of sets and single purchases. While I was there, I got a cutting board set and some knife covers too.

Great little shop with in house sharpening. Next day pickup. Some stores have a sharpener come only certain days so turnaround can be longer that you might want, especially if you cook for a living. Our knives were woefully dull...and even brought our matfer mandolin which they sharpened at no extra charge for removing the blade, which is not their usual policy, however we appreciated their attention. They also offer stone hand sharpening at a few extra dollars per knife, however we had the standard belt sharpening for a first time around. Again their were reasonable and expedient in service. It is a large and lovely shop, and though they do have an extensive display of mainly higher end Japanese/Asian knives shuns & sushi blades (which someone complained about) they sharpen anything and surely they would or could bring other knives in to purchase? We will be coming back.

Portland knife house is amazing to get your knife sharpened for a cheep price, but the one thing about this shop that I don't like is the fact that they talk you out of getting knifes. I came in today to pick up my knifes and while in there I was pretty much pushed out just to get my knifes and leave. They unfortunately lost a sale because I was in the market to get a new knife today. Oh well looks like I will stick to Chefknifestogo.com

Excellent sharpening service. After the Shun factory left a burr edge on my favorite knife, a professional chef friend recommended the Knife House. I brought in a pretty motley assortment - a few Shuns, a Wusthof, and a Victorinox I use for hacking apart large vegetables. Awesome sales person explained my options - basic traditional sharpening, or Japanese stone sharpening for a few bucks more. I decided to go with the stone sharpening for the Shuns, and the traditional for the other two. I dropped them off at closing time, and they were ready by the time the shop opened the next day. And these knives are SHARP. Sharper than when I bought them, probably. The Knife House also sells a lot of knives, mostly lesser known Japanese-style models and some by local makers. They explain it as paying for the quality of the knife rather than the marketing, which makes sense. When you're going to buy a knife, you tell them roughly what size and style you want, and they bring out several for you to handle and pick between. The low pressure approach is awesome, and they definitely know their stuff. Will be back to pick up another knife here soon.

Loved this place. The guy behind the counter was super helpful, the knives are excellent. Wife and I are home cooks, but they didn't hold that against us. (too much) They brought down a bunch of knives, let us get a feel for them, and geeked out about metal and edges, all the while I kept looking at the price surprised so many were near the $100 mark. I was honestly expecting double that. So, we bought three.

Amazing shop. Great selection. The crew is patient and willing to talk you through your personal preferences and guide anyone from the home cook to the James Bears Nominated. In house sharpening and I saw a few chefs heading out with freshly sharpened knives. I came home with my first Japanese Steel and already have my next knife selected. What a delight to have a ship like this in Portland. This will be a frequent stop and something I share with anyone interested in a spectacular knife shopping experience.

Bought a couple of knives here the other day. While we are happy with our knives - the salesman we worked with was really unpleasant. He was curt and seemed genuinely irritated and unhappy. It made the experience really awful for us and for that reason alone I'd recommend going somewhere else.

They did a great job sharpening my knives. Very friendly and knowledgable about kitchen knives. I went there today, hours listed on their website and here on Yelp stated they were open until 6, and they're apparently closed for like a week. I'll go back, but pretty disappointing they can't bother to post that info on their website.

These peeps know their craft. They salvaged my Henkels from the savagery of SirLaTable's (shame on them but that's another review) inept sharpening. Not only did the knives get the proper care they needed I also recieved some empathy for my troubles

Awesome shop. Portland is such a culinary town and it has been in need of a chef-centric knife shop for quite a while. Well I have to say it now has it. The shop specializes in higher-end Japanese knives, but they do carry some western knives as well. They also carry chef utensils as well; mandolins, aprons, sharpening stones and awesome French spatulas. The owner also sharpens knives and he has been at it for a while so from what I have seen he can be trusted. It is pretty much a kids candy store for chefs.

I came here to have a few knives sharpened, and they did a perfect job at a price lower than I've seen elsewhere. They even rounded out the broken heel on one, and had it all done the next day. The service was really good, so I also picked up a quality chef's knife as a gift. He set out a wide array of knives he recommended based on what I wanted, and I was able to handle each one to find the perfect knife. These guys are very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions, they know their products well, and they are patient and understanding with 'non-pro' home chefs like myself. I plan to return a few times a year for sharpening, and I'll be picking up a new knife every time, as I replace my consumer grade knives with professional grade knives. Oh, and the gift was very well received, so they've already won another customer!

They put a nice sharp edge on every single kitchen knife I own. Really nice shop, lots of wonderful knives.

When I saw this shop open a couple of years ago I was apprehensive. Thinking there would not be enough business to keep them in business. I was wrong. Top of the line knives and service. I've purchased this years Christmas gifts there. I also took my old knives in. For $5.00 each they made them like new.

As they settle in to their space and this city, they continue to offer the best selection and maintain a high degree of un-fussy customer service. The selection is getting better too. Hands down, THE best place for cutlery in this city!

For a long time I've wanted to get the handle on my favorite chef's knife replaced. A few weeks ago I took it in to the Portland Knife House and arranged for the knife to be re-handled, and they did an outstanding job. The haft looks and feels better than the original, which is no small compliment; when I purchased the knife 40 years ago it was a top-of-the-line German product. I'm immensely pleased, both with their service and their workmanship.

Could you possibly be any more misleading with the name of your business? It was so awesome to drive all the way across town to a place called the knife house to find out that you only sell one kind of knife. Great place to go if you want in overprice chefs knife but that is all that they carry is cooking knives

Knowledgeable and patient service! I had plenty of questions to ask and they had most of the answer for me! With the visit I had to rethink what set of knife I really want for my home. They gave me a list of knives they carry in store and a few suggestions on which ones would best fit my needs. Now to do some research and come back in December for to purchase!

This store was strongly recommended by a friend so I bought my husband a gift certificate. Since we drive from Tacoma, it took about a year and a half to make the trip. Even though I arrived about five minutes before closing, The owner was very gracious and patient showing me different all-purpose knives that would be a good starter. I settled on a beautiful yet durable Japanese vegetable cutting knife that will likely become my husbands favorite cutting tool in the kitchen. You can tell how much pride the owner takes in his work and in educating people about his craft. I would highly recommend and I would definitely go back.

Holy sh-nikes! This place is a chefs 'candy store' This place has a plethora of knives for whatever you might need in the kitchen. They have US made ones to imported ones. There are a LOT of beautiful knives here from originals to customs ones. The all range from $60 to whatever! The owner Eytan was knowledgeable and patient. He pulled down a selection of knives based on what I needs and asked me questions to help narrow down to the knife/knives I wanted. If I only had enough money I would give all the knives I wanted, a good home.....*sigh* I will return! I promise I'll come back for you custom carbon Japanese knife with the wood handle...promise!

They not only did an amazing job sharpening my kitchen knives but also several pocket knives that have not seen a good edge in years. Aton (I hope I spelled it right) is incredibly knowledgable and one of the most honest and conscientious shop owners I have met. They will now be my goto place for not only sharpening services but for any new kitchen knives I may ever need for myself or for gifts.
