Portland Running Company will serve pints of beer at its Slabtown location with Run Pub - Eater Portland

"Portland Running Company, a 25-year old retail store focusing on running gear, is opening a location in Slabtown, and with it, the Run Pub. The small, four-to-six tap pub in the back of the store will serve Oregon ales to shoppers, runners, and anyone who wants to swing by for a pint." - Alex Frane

I went here to get new running shoes. I’m not an avid runner so I like to get help when picking new shoes. Upon walking in, I was greeted and welcomed by the staff. I believe the person who helped me was named Leo. He quickly came asking if I needed help and sat down with me to help me see what kind of shoes I needed. I was asked to do a small walk to see what kind of shoes might benefit me more. He brought out various shoes explaining what each one did and were transparent on the price and were more than helpful on staying within my price range. They spent a good time with me helping me make sure that my shoes were the right pair for me! Definitely recommend coming here as this was a great experience when it comes to shopping for running shoes!

Adam was super helpful and cool, he helped me try on a million different sizes and colors, was totally patient and kind the whole way. Really glad I came here and got the 1 on 1 recommendations and help!

Google
Cute running store with a solid selection of shoes. I wasn't shopping for shoes today (just getting a beer and saying hi) but 2 different team members politely offered me help while I browsed. Both staff members I spoke to had great recommendations for local runs and there is a little tap wall inside where you can grab a pint to sip inside or on the sidewalk at some tables outside--super cool vibes and helpful/friendly people!

This is the first purchase I've made from Portland Running Co. It was an online order as I live hours away from their store location. Service was quick and accurate and when there was a quality issue with one of the shoes (due to nothing they did wrong) their customer service was excellent and just as prompt and accurate as when I first ordered the shoe!! I will continue to shop with them because this type of customer service seems to be slipping away from the norm these days and it felt very good to experience quality and caring service!

Google
The store had everything we needed. The prices were reasonable. The young man who helped us (I think his name was Jesse) really took his time with us and was very friendly and incredibly helpful. He was very knowledgeable and made some good recommendations. My mother has limited mobility, and he ran the lift for us so she wouldn't have to go up the few stairs. Just a great experience all around.

Google
Taken care so nicely, let them know my running needs and suggested a great shoe that fit the budget, did not try to put me in an expensive shoe I didn't need ... perfect service for all your running requirements!!

Yelp
They are located right in the heart of the NW 23rd neighborhood scene. Parking was difficult even with the one or two garages in the area. The building is easily identifiable because of the bright blue coloring. You can't miss it. I was greeted right away and the man that helped me was very friendly and knowledgeable about running. He did a gait measurement and recommended a few pairs of shoes for me to try on. I never felt pressured to buy and there was no up selling or shady sales tactics. They had a decent selection of everything I needed on this particular trip and their prices weren't inflated compared to what I was able to find online.

Yelp
Do not enter this business unless you are a skinny runner in the best shape of your life because if the employees deem you are not worthy, not only will they ignore you to help "real runners" but they will flat out refuse to get you a shoe you asked to try on because you don't need it. After all what could an overweight person need with a pair of work out shoes anyways?!? So if you're the perfect body type, feel free, you will get great service, as I observed, however if you feel insecure in any way, rest assured this company and its trained employees will really make you feel like crap if you try to buy anything here.

Yelp
I'm not a runner, but when training for my first (only and last) marathon, I was recommended to come here to get a "gait assessment". This was honestly one of the best pieces of advice I received, because the shoes that I ended up purchasing definitely affected my overall performance. This store is a great place to get a first pair of shoes. Their employees will "assess" your running by asking you to run around their little indoor track. Afterwards, they recommend a few pairs of shoes that they feel would best suit what your goal is, and one that would also be the best fit for you (e.g. provide more or less stability, more or less cushion, etc.). This actually helped a TON. Because of this, I found out I needed a shoe that would provide a lot more stability than I realized. Additionally, they also have a lot of running equipment - from energy gels to water bottles. It's a great one stop shop for your first race or just casual shopping!

Yelp
I placed an order on-line for store pick-up of a pair of waterproof running shoes since the Portland location had them in-stock. I received an automated e-mail right away confirming the order, and it advised that I'd get another e-mail when my order was ready for pickup. Well, after three days of no updates, and my order status showing as "processing", I called the Portland store to get an update. The person I spoke with said the order was ready for pickup, and had been. He also apologized for the "miscommunication". When I stopped in to pick them up, the employee fetched them for me, and confirmed what was in the bag. All told, I was in and out in probably three minutes. The employee was prompt, but not notably friendly. The store itself is pretty large, and appears to have a good selection. There's also a running track inside that allows shoppers to try running shoes and give them a good workout. This is probably the reason that the shoes I picked up weren't exactly in brand-new condition. The soles were visibly dirty, there was a fair amount of debris on the sides, and there were more than a few hairs in the box. This was very disappointing, and I probably should have checked their condition while I was still in the store instead of waiting until I got home. Parking is TERRIBLE...it's all street parking, and the area is extremely busy. This store also serves beer, which seems like an extremely bizarre thing.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the ease of finding the perfect athletic shoe. The staff were very helpful and they even have a bar!

Yelp
PRC isn't just for runners. I hung up my running shoes and was looking to try some HOKA for walking. Of course I bought my shoes but grabbed some sunglasses too. Love both locations.

Yelp
This is the best running store in town! They have a great selection of brands and styles, and the team is super knowledgeable. They're also very welcoming to all running abilities. Going to make an effort to join their group runs more often!

Yelp
These people know running and more importantly they know the value of community, and they are amazing at both. This new store is such a great concept. Go check it out!

Yelp
Great selection and quality products. Terrible service. Won't be coming back. I came in around 4pm a little under an hour before they closed. The person working the floor tried to make some "selections" for me without asking me any questions about my personal preferences, and then proceeded to stand there and stare at me after I told them I'd like to browse for a few minutes. I've never felt so rushed to make a decision. Without a doubt some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Such a shame.

Yelp
When I was shopping for shoes for running in February of 2006, I took the bus to the older (former) location of Portland Running Co. I didn't take my handbag. There was a few different reasons I was shopping for running shoes. 1) Sometimes I need a more grippy (better for walking on trails) sole. 2) I like to walk faster when I'm walking around Portland by myself. 3) I called ahead... there are usually plenty of larger sizes of women's running shoes. 4) The guy who helps people find the right shoes... sounded friendly on the phone. I arrived earlier than I thought. I was assisted with shoes, and I was encouraged to run down the block outside the storefront. It's because the guy who was helping me wanted to see my "running style." I told him.... I'll probably only be walking on trils and maybe I'll do some longer strides depending on how fast I'm walking with my Darling Husband. A different shoe was suggested. I tried those shoes on. I still wear those shoes... on the beaches... because they are very olde now. I recommend bringing a pair of socks that you will usually run in with you. The sizes on the women's shirts is probably still too small for me. But, if you are already shopping at Portland Running Co... and if you need shirts for your runs... definitely take a look at the racks.

Yelp
Everyone at PRC are super friendly and helpful. It's a positive experience every time I go in. They even had the Garmin I was looking for in-stock as soon as it was released! Also, the owners put on great events and are very supportive of the local running community (including my track club). Can't say enough good things about the company and the people. : )
