My recent visit to this restaurant was just as delightful as the previous one, and I can't help but be amazed. The staff remained exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and they continued to offer great recommendations. We even had the chance to chat with one of the managers or owners, who had us in stitches by the end of the night. In our large party, we had the pleasure of savoring a wide variety of dishes, from pastas to steaks, seafood, appetizers, and desserts. In my opinion, every item we tried was not just good but exceptionally tasty, seasoned to perfection, and bursting with flavor. The adult drinks were also a pleasant surprise, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening. Even the children with us had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. While the food was fantastic, it's worth noting that it did take a little longer to arrive at our table. However, the reasonable pricing, clean environment, and the rainy weather preventing us from enjoying the outdoor seating were minor inconveniences in the grand scheme of things. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant to explore their menu of delectable offerings. I, for one, can't wait to return as soon as possible. Four stars for a fantastic experience with just a minor hiccup in food delivery timing and parking.

The place and staff was nice. However, the lobster tail and shrimp was over cooked. The fried calamari was gummy. The food was not tasty at all. My review is harsh because this is my first time having lobster tail and it was sad😞😢. Moreover, this was my first time on City Island (why 😔). I want to come back... After I checkout other restaurants on the island.

Amazing view of the water. Drinks - white sangria - was a little watered down. Appetizers- fried calamari- a little dry and not too much flavor. Ordered the surf turf and brazentino fish for entrees. My husband did not really like the steak. The fish was great. Service - young waiters who seemed to have friends over at a different table. They took a little too long to bring out the menu and drinks. Not bad service just a little distracted. Also a little pricey for the quality of the food. However I did forget my purse and they held it for me until the next day. Friendly manager.

I was on a date night with my fiancé. Food and service were phenomenal. Lobster was tender, well seasoned and very delicious. It was so appetizing I forgot to take a picture, I just went right in. Nice quiet romantic dinner, definitely enjoyed going there.

I celebrated 🍾 my 53rd Birthday here with my Babes ❤️. I had an Amazing evening in your Beautiful romantic establishment. The food was excellent, and the service superb 👌🏾. Because we went on a Tuesday we practically had the place to ourselves and our dinig view of the sun setting on the water... made it even more amazing for me 😊!!! I would definitely go back there. Thank you

Went there for my anniversary and was very happy with the food and service as well as a great view. I initially was not happy with my entree, but my waiter immediately gave me the menu and I got something different and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

My family and I visited. Actually our second time. The staff was great and the food came out at a timely manner. The outdoor is beautiful and my 9 and 12 yr old loved it. They enjoyed watching the boats dock. My husband enjoyed himself too. We had a great time will definitely visit again.

Yelp
Unfortunately Portofino was closed for lunch. We've been there before and the food was good, but the service was excellent.

Yelp
We came here for dinner after a full day of fishing in the waters of Port Washington. After docking our boat at the pier, we hurried to the only open restaurant at that time. Although we were promptly seated, the service here was almost nonexistent. I understand that some restaurants may have dim lighting, this one was excessively dim, requiring us to use flash for all our photos. Regarding the food, we ordered the lamb chops (1/5). I usually enjoy the seared crust exterior that results from the Maillard reaction, but unfortunately, these lamb chops were burnt and had a bitter taste throughout. Even the aromatics used to season the meat were burnt, rendering it inedible. On the other hand, the seafood combo (4/5) was flavorful. However, the shrimps (3/5) were drowned in the sauce, overpowering the delicate taste of the shrimp itself.

Yelp
We went in a Thursday night about 1 1/2 before closing. Not busy at all. Service was very quick, attentive but not intrusive. Food was amazing. Very large portions. The chicken albanese was spicy but very flavorful. We had a water front table for a romantic ambiance. Looking forward to coming back in the spring and sitting on the patio.

Yelp
Went to put a Fina on a Groupon date on a nice summer 87° night in New York City, its nestled right in between all the other seafood spots and city Island, But it's an Italian restaurant which in my mind was gonna have some good wine , good views and an all around nice date night. So upon arrival the entrance to the restaurant is so nice and sleek looks like a lil restaurant on the water in Italy (i feel that's they view they were going for and they've succeeded) there are wine bottles across the wall and a nice full bar . When you walk thru to the back the main dining hall is big with lots of seating , the outside area has good seating as well and heat lamps for the cooler weather. So my Groupon deal consists of 2 appetizers , 2entrees , 2 desserts and a bottle of wine... (we chose a bottle of white wine) i must say you can't beat a deal like that. So for starters, we got an order, of the shrimp cocktail, and an order of baked clams. so the shrimp cocktail the shrimp, were big but it didn't feel like they were blanched long enough so when you chew did it didn't give you that bite that you normally get it was a little chewy but edible I'll gave it a 2 out of 5 just cause the size of the shrimp was good. We also ordered baked clams so this was my first time trying baked clams and they always look and smell so good. We'll let me say that I'll never order them again, it was baked with a garlicky breadcrumb which was good, but the bite itself was so mushy thou i finished it but I'll never order baked clams again ‍‍i give it a 2 out of 5. For entrées, I ordered the twin broiled lobster tail and it came with sautéed vegetables and fried mashed potato also for the second entrée we ordered the Shrimp Alla Fra Diavolo which was Shrimp Sauteed in Olive Oil and Garlic in a Fradiablo Sauce, served over Linguni pasta. The lobster tails were cooked very well They were seasoned very well there was no fishy taste They were juicy on that first bite i had no complaints for the lobster tails, the veggies seasoned so well and soft (i hate hard to chew veggies) it also came with fried mashed potato though it's something I will never try it again!! It reminded me of a knish and I didn't like those when I was younger so I knew I was gonna enjoy it.. i give the meal a 4 out of 5 for the other entrée the linguine meal , the shrimp were nice and big seasoned well it did have a very lemony taste thou taste, and the noodles were more than al dente they were Hard to chew he gave his meal a 2 out of 5 and the 2 was for the size of the shrimp. I'm giving my visit 2 and that was due to the the scenery and the service my waitress was very friendly and her banter and conversation was really good and inviting. SB notes: The scenery was my favorite thing about this outing the breeze and the photo op is the best ... but BEWARE there was a raccoon bandit that was trying to climb over the fence Also if you use the Groupon you'll get a hill for 79$ well mine was cause we had to pay $8.50 for a bottle of water and then they add the gratuity of $40 automatically so take into account we used a card so there was tax so let's say you'll Pay about $66 if you paying in cash .. Yelp
Stopped in for drinks in the mid-afternoon on a Friday. The place was not busy and it was pretty peaceful before the dinner rush. Exactly what we wanted for the day to enjoy some wine and relax. The server seated us by the waterfront and served us water. We ordered a bottle of ruffino and a glass of red wine. The ruffino was pretty nice. The ambiance was very nice and the view was super relaxing. The servers kept asking us if we wanted to order food. We told them we were just in for drinks. We felt so pressured after they asked us again for the 6th time in the hour that we ordered some oysters, finished our wine and left.

Yelp
I read some negative reviews and was kinda worried. The food was great. The waitress and waiters were very nice. I am surprised that it was very empty for a Saturday night. We decided to eat dinner inside instead of on the deck. My only complaint is the dining room was kinda warm, they needed to turn the air conditioner on or down.

Yelp
My dinner was awful. Everyone else was happy with their dinners. For the price, food should be impeccable. Went for my stepmother's birthday and she was happy. But I will not be back. It is smelly ( like sewage) especially when you enter. Loved it 25 years ago, but now, just a disappointment.

Yelp
My cousin chose the restaurant for our first in person, post vaccination get together: Fathers Day 2021. Well, turns out that EVERYONE in the tri state area had similar plans and the traffic was horrendous, but being who they are, the restaurant staff at Portofino assured us that they'd take care of us and boy did they EVER! I got there first, and plopped myself at the bar. The bartender, a definitely SWEET and about to have a baby in the near future made me a delicious fruity drink with rum. A couple seated at the bar gladly shared with me their favorites on the menu, even a couple of "off the menu" tips. And in walks my 83 year old uncle, man of the hour, so now we are taken to a table outside on the covered deck. My cousin scored a spot in the parking lot and we scan the menu. There are families, there are people of all shades of skin tone and everyone is happy, treated exceptionally. The food is AMAZING. The service is AMAZING. We WILL BE BACK.

Yelp
Went there for our anniversary on Aug 5 2023 our server Val was very friendly and took a great photo of us. Our Groupon qas for a three course meal with a bottle of wine the bottle of wine was a fill size bottle and tasted great. For apps I ordered mozzarella and greens husband order a pasta dish. Both were ample portions. Main course for me was shrimp with pasta. Husband got lobster tails with green beans almondine my dessert was vanilla ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate sauce husband was tartuffo, which was vanilla ice cream with a chocolate shell all tasted great the total for everything was 189 dollars including Groupon tax and tip a truly magical evening

Yelp
It was date night and we decided to use good ole' Groupon for a surf and turf deal as my cravings for lobster come often. I haven't been to City Island in years so going to Portofino on a school night (Wednesday) seemed perfect. I imagine the weekends are pretty crowded and I wanted to have nice quiet time. As you walk in you'll notice a very traditional sit-down Italian restaurant decor. This place is huge and I can definitely see huge parties held here. Since we decided to go on a Wednesday evening there was absolutely no crowd (there were maybe a total of 6-8 other people besides us) and plenty of parking. The staff (waitress and server/hostess) were really friendly and welcoming. They checked in on us a few times and made sure everything was to our liking. Our Groupon included: 1 bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 surf and turf entrees (a lobster tail and steak), and 2 desserts. The Cabernet Sauvignon we selected was delicious (photo attached). We decided to go with a shared appetizer for an extra cost. It was the Hot AntiPasto for 2: Shrimp, Fried Calamari, Stuffed Mushrooms, Eggplant, Rollatini, and Baked Clams. If you are starving I would suggest this. The sizing was pretty large for us as I started to get full after eating this. The shrimp, calamari and baked clams were delicious. Everything else was just friend mush. Our surf and turf entrees consisted of a large lobster tail and steak. I asked for Medium-well (don't judge me) and ended up getting a well-well done steak. I did not need to use the butter sauce as the lobster tail was extra seasoned. The veggies (carrots and string-beans) were cooked in some buttery garlic sauce I loved it. So I ate the lobster tail and veggies for most of my entree. Our deal also included 2 desserts. By this time we were so stuffed we did not even want to see the dessert menu so the waiter offered to give us the desserts to go. This was so kind and I'm glad we did not have to ask for it be wrapped up. The waiter offered this before we even know what was being offered. I asked and he named several cheesecake flavors. I am not a fan of any type of cheesecake so my date was about to have the bomb late night snack. We ordered a raspberry cheese cake and a chocolate cheesecake to go. Before leaving the waiter offered us some homemade sambuca (fig and raisin). It was the bomb. It was so sweet and strong at the same time - I loved it! Our night was lovely, we had a great dinner and all is well. Fast forward to the unwrapping of the desserts. We open the first container of the "raspberry" cheese cake. We notice there are no raspberries there are actually strawberries on top. Ok that's fine. We wouldn't have complained about that but as we go to get a fork (I was willing to try it) we notice some mold on one of the strawberries. We both took a better look at this and quickly threw the slice of cheese cake away. My date did inspect and try the chocolate cheese cake but didn't feel comfortable eating it. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the wine, the amount of food for the price and I can so see this being such a great outdoor dinner spot during the summer but I'm not sure I'll return because mold on food is not really a good look. It made me think about everything else I ate and I was a bit turned off.

Donna B.

Yelp
very disappointing. Stopped in for lunch and cocktail. The restaurant was empty but for us. The waiter was sweet but very slow. unacceptable to have had to wait so long for service and bill while he sat inside the restaurant on his phone. Also the food was sub par. We did the hot antipasta. The grilled shrimp was so dry, the fried mozzarella was tasteless and the eggplant rolatini had spoiled ricotta cheese, couldn't eat it.

Yelp
ATTENTION: Any consumer with a valid, non-expired Groupon for Portofino Restaurant be advised they do not honor their agreement for their 'special' offer. They will be glad to take the value of the purchase price from you as if you walked in off the street[bait & switch]. When asked 'why not honor the deal?' Reply: 'because we stopped running the special.' p.s. I am posting here b/c i can't post on Groupon without using the dishonest voucher system first. I traded in the value instead because voting with your wallet is the best recourse...aside from posting on yelp. ;) p.s.s. I will post updates for every 'Groupon' Restaurant that tries this w/ me in my profile to inform the consumer, as if the current atmosphere isn't stressful enough. Check in from time to time because the world is on sale and these types of places will not last with a simple key stroke. Jr

Yelp
I visited this restaurant with friends during the time of CoVid, so seating was limited to outdoors only. The venue was busy but we were seated immediately, which I appreciated. The view overlooked the water and the patio was filled with tables of family, friends and couples. The atmosphere was very family friendly, ideal for a late Sunday lunch. Service was slow and lackluster. Our waiter/waitress changed a few times but each person seemed equally distracted. This was likely due to the busy-ness of the venue, as my friend who previously visited on a weeknight spoke highly of his waiter. The food was very good. For appetizers, we had the escargot, which was cooked nicely in a herb butter sauce. We also had the calamari, which was lightly breaded and crispy. For my entree, I had the Shrimp Portofino. The shrimp was fresh, succulent and cooked nicely. I would order this item again. My girlfriend had the Shrimp Alla Fra Diavolo, which she enjoyed. My other friend thoroughly enjoyed his fish with clams. The general consensus was that the seafood was fresh, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. We all ate very well. Overall, although service was mediocre, the dining experience was enjoyable. I would return.

Yelp
I rarely do Happy Hour. Juggling with our side business, I'm either rushing or have no time most evenings to really lay back and chill. But it's Summer. It was a Beautiful day. And needed a much deserved breather, to catch up with my friend on an early, Friday evening. Polished main dining room, leads you to their patio, giving you a decent front seat to the Long Island Sound. The vibe here is pleasant to unwind, while you're having your Happy Hour drinks and Appetizers (though my friend and I, skipped them and had our sights on eating elsewhere). Pinot Grigios and Rosés that we ordered for the time being, were a nice refreshing delight. Service was pleasant between Val and Douglas. However, my biggest irritation that evening was when Douglas assumed that we were finished and tried to remove the bill without my friend or I grabbing his attention to...but apologized, for his quick impulse. Maybe I'm too generous with the 4 stars? On the whole, service was good and very much attentive while we were there. Portofino did the job and was a nice choice for sipping a chilled glass of wine on a warm day. Wouldn't be bothered to return.

Yelp
I went there last night for a work function with dinner. Poor service, rude staff, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered sea bass and I don't actually think it was actually sea bass. Some of my friends ordered steak and were fond of this. Pasta with clams was liquidy and awful, bread was warm but not authentic Italian bread, salad plain.

Yelp
The view on the patio dining area is great for NYC, but the food is average at best. The service was good. The prices must definitely be for the view as the food was subpar in comparison to other much more comfortably priced places serving the same type of food with a much better taste. The 3 stars are for the view and the service. The taste of the food would leave this place between a high 1 star and low 2 stars. The ambience of the place is good and the food seems to have declined since my last visit years ago.

Yelp
Came to Portofino for date night with my fiancé...upon entering the establishment I could not find any host or waitstaff or even a bartender to ask if we should seat ourselves or wait for a host/hostess (since there is a front table for the host). We decided to walk in and seat ourselves. Our waiter approached, we ordered and were served. We noticed we weren't offered or served any bread yet all the other tables had a basket of bread except ours. I decided maybe an oversight although there were only 3 other tables that were occupied in the entire restaurant besides ours. We considered inquiring about the bread but we were already halfway through our meal. Not once did our waiter ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything else. We felt ignored. Not sure how inattentive they could be when the restaurant was so empty. The food was good and no complaints there. It wasn't the best I've had (we ordered the raw oysters, Dijon mustard salmon and shrimp scampi and at the end two cappuccinos) but it was definitely appetizing. We would have ordered more and stayed longer but were turned off. Not sure if I would come back because of the awful service.

Yelp
Top notch! My uncle and I decided to go here because of their Groupon discount and we would happily come back and pay full price next time. We started off with some bread...a wonderful soft loaf with a thin and crunchy crust. The olive oil was infused with rosemary which was beautifully aromatic. Next was our hot antipasto appetizer accompanied by the Portofino Salad. YUMMMM! The dressing was light and clean and refreshing while the hot antipasto appetizer was savory and deep. Our lobster tail and sirloin steak were as close to perfect as you can get....falling out of the shell and cutting like butter, respectively. Then the dessert was a fantastically fluffy tirimisu accompanied by their homemade dessert drinks: grappa and lemon cello. Everything was tipped off with this wonderful Merlot... Casa de Toro I believe. Our evening at Portofino was amazing. The music was not too loud and our waiters: Val, Antonio, and Enis were on their game. Such a sweet and accommodating team. Honestly, I'd be alright having my wedding here. It was awesome!

Yelp
If we could give this place 10 stars, we would. The most amazingly friendly and attentive staff served us delicious food on a fantastical relaxing and scenic deck ever. We felt like we had been transported to an island paradise. We had delicious oysters to start and I had an amazing Shrimp Fra Diavlo for my meal - just the right combination of spice and flavor with hefty shrimp. Tara had the Lobster Ravioli and said it was heavenly (she repeated this assertion about 10 times).

Yelp
Poor service and mediocre food. Our waitress sat down at the table next to us midway our meal and never tended to us again.

Yelp
I said I wouldn't post a review but I have to. We visited for Mothers Day dinner. The service was nothing short of horrible. The outdoor area was dirty and piles of dishes and half eaten food sat for over 2 hours in our view. No bread and butter, food took forever and even though we made our reservations for outside, they tried to dissuade us from sitting outside. We made reservations for OUTSIDE. Very confusing. The food was good but I will probably be hesitant to return after what we experienced. It's Mother's Day...expect a rush and plan accordingly.

Yelp
This is my first groupon experience on the restaurant deal, so I don't know if this is normal or it's odd that customers who bought the groupon still have to pay the tax, I thought it should be included in the groupon value. I am surprised that the billed came out and saw I have to pay the tax ( and the tax was based on the original food & wine price) and the tax is significant. On our bill they charged us $14 on the tax, so basically you have to expect to pay about $40 - $45 extra ( including tips & tax ) for a party of 2 people. The food is not bad but not outstanding, the steak is especially disapointing, it's not Filet Mignon. Of course it doesn't have to be a filet mignon to make a good steak, but the one I had that day is just not good. The highlight of the day is definitely the lobster tail, I almost stole all of the lobster tail from my husband's plate, it is delicious! The service is good, too, there are several waiters taking care of our table that day and they are all very polite and attentive. Overall, I think I paid FAIR price for the dinner, but I don't feel like I really got a great deal.

Yelp
Went to City Island on July 2nd, right before the holidays and BOY was it a traffic nightmare. Luckily, we found Portofino on Yelp. It was the perfect escape from the millions of cars piled up on that one lane main street on the island. Portofino has an amazing outdoor deck overlooking a small marina. It was beautiful watching the sunset and the clouds change from white to pink as we had our dinner, and frankly why I'm giving this place a 4 star rating. Food was a bit pricier than some of the other places on the island, but you are comparing Coney Island grab and go food vs a sit down meal on a deck. Very different. Seeing how long the lines were at other joints, I was thrilled to find Portofino. Entrees are pretty large. We ordered 2 entrees and a dozen oysters for 3 people, because we weren't too hungry. I think 2 entrees and 2 appetizers would have been perfect. We had the Branzino whole fish and really enjoyed it. My family loves fish, but most restaurants overcook it. Portofino actually cooked it well! Bravo! We also ordered the Lobster Tail and Shrimp Scampi Linguine - Lobster Tail was very small, but actually very good. Overall, I was very happy with our choice to find a comfortable restaurant that had a nice view. My parents liked it a lot!

Yelp
Raccoons at this establishment! I was sitting on the outdoor deck at my table and was attacked by a raccoon and had to immediately go to the hospital for rabies shots. My aunt came to the restaurant a week later and asked the staff what they had done about the raccoon problem. They told her they had captured the raccoon put up fences to keep them out. While she was eating her dinner a raccoon scratched her leg! Clearly not enough is being done about this raccoon problem. Unless you want a rabid raccoon interrupting your meal I would avoid this restaurant.

Yelp
I noticed a new lunch special and decided to treat my mom and sister for a Sunday lunch to get a change from our usual brunch spot (Vista Mar). Once seated (we requested the outdoor patio) we inquired about the special and were told it was a Mon-Fri deal disappointed but we decided to stay. The menu is limited and pricey so many others entering asked about the special after being seated and got up and left. We opted for the calamari, seafood salad, seafood linguini chefs special, penne a la vodka and lobster ravioli. I must say the appetizers had the freshest seafood I have ever tasted. The calamari nice and soft, the mussels in the salad the cleanest, not one grain of sand and the smoothest slivers of oysters. My sister ordered the penne, it's her usual when she finds it on any menu and she was impressed. My ravioli was a generous serving and deliciously creamy, my mom said her special was so delicious her only regret was not wanting to get dirty tearing into her lobster. Sorry I have no photos on this meal as we were enjoying it all to well. I gave 4 stars over 5 because I didn't expect to spend $166 on lunch for 3 when many other places on the island have a Sunday brunch menu. Especially since we only had water with our meals.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants on the island. I really love it here. If only I was able to come here often. The service is great and the food is just yummy!!! This is my number 1 recommendation when I tell people about City Island.

Yelp
Great food and service! Is great for couples. Decoration a little old but looks ok. They have outdoor sitting but unfortunately it was raining when We came. Ambience is no loud which is good for me and my husband. I will go again.

Yelp
1st time in City Island, this place was amazing. From the amazing server to the incredible food. Loved sitting outside on the deck, amazing weekend. I will be back

Yelp
A++++ for this place! Went here in the summer and we had the opportunity to sit outdoors to enjoy the view. Sitting by the water surrounded by beautiful plants and relaxing decorations was a delight. My husband and I both had calamari as entree, surf and turf, along with a bottle of wine. The food tasted like no other. There are not enough positive words for this place. The service was great, we were treated very well. I loved and enjoyed every single minute of being here.

Yelp
Great place to get lunch! Friendly staff and delicious food. Large portions too! The lobster linguisa was amazing. The fish of the day Dover fish was cleaned and filleted at the table. The Blackstone wine was very tasty too. Probably my new favorite American wine.

Yelp
Came to City Island for the first time (shame on me, I know) on Sunday. Had a drink from their current HH special, the owner was really welcoming! I wish things were different because I'd love to dine in. I did see they had an open area in the back, not sure if it was open because I didn't ask. Just call ahead for the hours but would highly recommend if you want a perfectly made marg while at City Island!

Yelp
Had dinner there last night. Everything was excellent. Had a Groupon deal for 2 surf and turf dinners, lobster tail was sweet and fresh, NY strip steak was a decent size perfectly cooked and tasty. The bread was from Arthur Ave, need I say more lol, the wine that came with the dinner was an excellent Cabernet from Chile slightly sweet not dry tasting just perfect.the desert was home made tiramisu, it was fantastic. Then after desert they come to your table with a cart with jugs of home made grapa's and home made sambuca. The waiter and waitress that served us were terrific. Excellent dining, nice atmosphere, and good deal with the Groupon. 5 Stars from start to finish, we'll definitely go back again

Yelp
I took my husband there for Father's Day. We walked in and right away the staff was attentive and quick with seating. They asked if we'd like to sit inside or outside- we chose outside on the water. Perfect choice! All the tables had huge umbrellas so we had the perfect amount of shade. The wait staff were just awesome, so polite and sweet and kept playing with my toddler. Restaurant was not crowded but it was full. Reserve if possible! I just took a chance and popped up. I'd recommend to everyone food was great! Drinks were great! No complaints.

Yelp
Came here for my birthday weekend and all that is consistently good is the food!!! The service was extremely poor for the standards of customer service especially at a restaurant for fine dining. Who was our server? No clue. She disappeared and she looked like she was the hostess with a red shirt on. Where was our order of beer? Never came. Where was the refill of water while eating? Never came while sitting in the hot sun. No one inquired how the meal was which would have been an opportunity to point out the missed beer and need for water. They fixed everyone else's umbrella's as the sun began to come down but ours. The check came by someone else once we asked and was sitting around idly. Another server came with the check then another lady took the payment because the other lady walked off. Don't waste your time here go to Don Coqui! Great drinks and atmosphere! We are here now getting awesome drinks, service and food.

Yelp
The staff is very friendly, the food is delicious and the outside seating did wonders for my stress level. Also, there aren't that many patrons in the afternoon which made the whole experience about a 1000 better. I had the shrimp risotto and it was yummy. Don't forget to order it when you come in.

Yelp
So GOOD!! Nice spot outside by the water. Waiters are attentive, food is GREAT. The owner walks around to confirm everyone is good and engages in conversation.

Yelp
Very disappointed with service, and the long wait, have been waiting to wat here for awhile, but I am very dissatisfied with the waitress telling me that just to pay my bill and never come back, waited 2 hours to be told that they didn't have crab legs instead of being told that at the beginning, and told because I ordered appetizers our food to longer than other people that came in after us, and also Please do not use the pandemic as an excuse I have been working in the field since day one as an essential service..be advised I payed MY bill but NO TIP AT ALL......BE ASSURED THAT PEOPLE I KNOW THAT COME HERE WILL BE INFORMED....WHEN I HAVE A BAD DAY, MY NEXT DAY WILL NOT BE AFFECTED AND MY ATTITUDE WILL ADJUST PROPERLY....

Yelp
This was my fist time at this restaurant, wanted to take my husband somewhere nice for his birthday. As soon as I walked in I was amazed by the view. We were seated immediately by our fabulous waiter, Douglas he was extremely nice and knew about everything on the menu, and the fantastic drinks. We started with an appetizer which was fried calamari it was really good not chewy and cooked to perfection. It was time to order lunch I had the mahi-mahi with mussels in a delicious red sauce with vegetables and potatoes. I really enjoyed it! and I noticed there was a good amount of garlic which I love. My husband had the fried fantail shrimp with french fries, nice and chrispy. I tried my husband's french martini drink it was absolutely delish!! I would recommend that drink to everyone. We were really satisfied with the food and service.

Yelp
i don;t do reviews. Father's Day 2021.Party of 7. first visit.service here was horrible.staff went from slow service to NO SERVICE to INSULT. first off we had to request 4 additional place settings despite advance reservation.and confirmation before our15 min. wait for our table prep.2 different waitresses.1 took drink orders (25 min wait). then 2nd waitress took appetizer orders.i asked for lobster bisque she said they didnt have any,i asked for soup of the day.she replied "we don't have any soup because "ITS TOO HOT FOR SOUP" Really? no clams or oysters. no crabs legs, no flounder.we were served a few orders of mussels( 6 per) in white wine and a couple of the most tired shrimp cocktails i've seen served in a restaurant.(sorry we were all so bummed no one took pix).our wait staff vanished and 40 mins later ( havind NO FOOD served to us) i got the attention of a passing wait person who offered to take our orders AGAIN?? we requested a manager and 10 minutes later a young man came over and in a rude and patronizing demeanor offered free drinks if we would stay.NO APOLOGY WHATSOEVER. we declined. he returned with a S176.00 check slapped it on the table, (still no apology) to group of retired vets, nypd and postal retirees. this could have been a one off but this place was TERRIBLE. mediocre appetizers (all we got to eat). rude, unprofessional waitstaff and horrible management. my worst restaurant experience ever. DON'T WASTE TIME OR MONEY on just a nice view.UNACCEPTABLE

Yelp
Great family run restaurant with a large open air deck which is very enjoyable right now, given the social distancing requirements.

Yelp
OK, so a friend and I go to this restaurant to have a nice dinner. My friend had a GROUPON which was shown as soon as we came in and sat down. The waitress seemed nice enough till we started ordering the food from the menu. She explained how she NEVER gets a TIP when people use GROUPON and how she HATES GROUPON and how she doesn't make much money... You get the picture! After that riveting monologue, we wait and wait AND wait for our food to be served. We were sitting outside and the evening was beautiful... I was so hungry I wanted to jump in the water and catch a fish. However, I thought how my friend would react... so I just purred...and we waited. FINALLY the food came and I was so happy. The lobster tail was wonderful and the steak was a bit chewy but tasted great! The waitress served a nice wine that came with our HATED GROUPON. Then we asked for dessert!!! WHY DID WE DO THAT? She debated if our meal came with dessert. WE WERE SURE THAT IT DID! After much debate and attitude, we ask for it to go... she had a really bad attitude and made us WAIT endlessly for the dessert to be wrapped up and our bill to given to us! My friend was WONDERFUL to give an amazing tip (cause he felt obligated, she doesn't make much money as you recall we were told by HER). I would have given her the back of my paw!!! NOW THE ICING on the cake...JUST LIKE THE OTHER YELPER... OUR DESSERT THAT WE WAITED SO LONG TO GET WAS ROTTEN!!!! THE FUR ON MY NECK WAS STANDING TALL! AFTER ALL THAT WAITING ...THIS!!!!

Yelp
Oo-kay...I'm a little grossed out by this place. My husband, mother in law and son came here after I purchased a voucher for four which included two apps, four entrees and two desserts. We were taken aback by the view on the patio of the outside dining area and with the weather, it seemed perfect. We were seated fairly quickly and were immediately greeted with complimentary bruschetta and big, crusty bread. Our server took out orders and the apps came out pretty quick. We decided to share Fried Calimari and a Caprese dish. The calimari is big and little overly breaded and fried but it tasted ok. We started to eat the caprese and finished two of them, when I stopped my husband from cutting into the third because I noticed a think hair, sitting in the oil on the plate. I shrieked at him to stop and showed him the hair. When I told the wait staff, they were unconcerned and didn't ever apologize for the inconvenience or disgusting nature of the event. The server just took the hair and walked away. A second came to claim the plates and asked if we were sure we weren't going to est the last caprese on the plate. I told him that we don't want it and that there was a hair in the plate and he just went about clearing tye plates off of the table. By the time my entree came, I was not at all interested in esting. I was so turned off and disgusted, not only by the hair sitting in the food but by the way they handled the situation. I will never come back here. Ever. I find that most times, when using vouchers, I find little dining gems that I would not otherwise have ever known about and am genuinely happy to have an opportunity to try out a new place or cuisine and even return to pay full price but then, I have found that some places utilize the help of Living Social and Groupon because they just wouldn't have any business otherwise. I am originally from the Bronx and even went to school on City Island. I guess there was always some unspoken reason as to why my family and I never dined here. Increasing foot traffic may increase sales shor-term but in order to maintain high patronage, you need to improve the handling of your business. Customer service can go a long way and thanks to sites like Yelp, so can word of mouth.

Yelp
Love Love Portofino!!! Had a lovely evening using my Groupon! The deal was $75 for 1 app, 2 entrees, 1 dessert & 1 bottle of wine. Based on the other reviews I thought the surf & turf might be somewhat small but I was pleasantly surprised. The waiter/manager began by saying "you can order whatever you want on the menu" and "you get 2 apps each"! I was excited so that meant I would have to tip nicely. :-) Started with a chilled bottle of Chardonnay - $50 for this $10 bottle of wine....smh..... We went with with the Fried Calamari & the Fried Mozzarella in a caper wine sauce for appetizers - it was very yummy. The calamari was tasty, the fried mozzarella was somewhat salty but with the warm bread it kinda takes away the saltiness. I had the surf & turf - Filet Mignon w/ Lobster Tails, scalloped potatoes & steamed veggies My mate decided to order from the menu and had the Fried Seafood Combo - it was quite yummy and the Tilapia was very tasty. We ended with dessert - classic NY cheesecake - it was delish! Overall, w/o the groupon my meal alone was $70!!! So we definitely had a great deal and it was worth was I paid. The total I owed was only $15.29 (tax) on $192 bill. I would defintely come back to Portofino but only with a Groupon deal cause otherwise it's get very pricey. The service was attentive & since there wasn't that many patrons the ambience felt as if we were the only ones there.

Yelp
Today I came here and had lunch. I am a professional chef and this was the worst meal I have ever eaten. I ordered a cocktail and it tasted like fruit punch, ordered a mozzarella and tomato salad, which had no seasoning and unripe tomatoes. The mixed greens on the mozzarella were wilted. I ordered the crab cakes, it wasn't even crab. It was ORANGE, 3 hours later I still don't even know what the meat was because it didn't even taste like imitation crab. Unfortunately, the so called "crab" was in two other entrees I ordered; lobster and shrimp. Ruined everyone's meal. The mashed potatoes weren't even fresh, they were instant. The broccoli was large, it had the entire stem on it. Wasted $300 on the meal, and it was terrible. The best thing was the free bread they gave at the beginning of the meal. Don't waste your money and time.

Yelp
Loved this place. The atmosphere was great and the waitresses were wonderful on different days that I went. The food was delicious. I had the Branzino and the stuffed lamb chop the other day. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I was just there the other day and all is fine and the same as my last visit. Owners should consider abandoning the obvious frozen or canned string beans. It probably would be to nice provide a shared Caesar salad or some freshly cooked vegetables . This time my steak was much better so there appears to be issues with the consistency of the food. All in all still recommended.

Yelp
Had a great dinner and the value was extraordinary as we took advantage of the Groupon 'surf & turf' dinner. Try it.. you'll like it...
