"The pride and joy of not just Burbank, but the entire Valley, Porto’s Bakery is a straight-up classic. The family-run Cuban bakery has been serving guava pastries, potato balls, and everything else under the Valley sun for decades, and built a rabid following in the process. Come here at noon on a Tuesday and be greeted by 100 other people who had the same idea as you. But not to worry, Porto’s is a well-oiled machine and will have you in, out, and eating strudel for lunch in no time." - brant cox, sylvio martins
"For anyone who’s ever stepped foot in Southern California, Porto’s should need no introduction. But just in case you need a quick refresher, the family-run Cuban bakery has been serving guava pastries, potato balls, and every other baked treat under the Valley sun for the last 55 years. They’re the pride and joy of Burbank, and you should go here (or to any of their other locations) to join the lines of people waiting to stock up on their trademarked papa rellenas, which are deep-fried and filled with more meat than an Arby’s tagline. And since Porto’s is a streamlined operation, they’ll have you in, out, and eating pastries for lunch alone in your car in 10-15 minutes. " - brant cox, sylvio martins, arden shore
"Founded in 1976 by Raul and Rosa Porto in an Echo Park strip mall and relocated to Glendale in 1982, this family-run Cuban bakery grew from Rosa selling cakes from home to an iconic Southern California institution known for affordable Cuban pastries. I note the bakery’s signature refugiados (guava and cheese strudels), potato balls, cakes, and long lines for tres leches cakes, Cuban sandwiches, pastries, and salads. Raul Sr., who helped the business grow after initially working elsewhere and even as a janitor while supporting Porto’s on the side, retired to focus on raising his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he died on May 22, 2024 at age 92 and was remembered as humble and devoted. The Portos’ three children—Beatriz, Raul Jr., and Margarita—took on leadership roles, expanded to Burbank in 2006 and later to Buena Park, Downey, Northridge, West Covina and other Southern California locations, launched nationwide delivery of Porto’s par-baked goods in 2018, and plan a Downtown Disney location later this year." - Matthew Kang
"Porto’s Bakery is also slated to open in the Downtown Disney District this year as part of the planned additions that aim to cement the area as a dining destination." - Carlye Wisel
"An incoming Porto’s Bakery and Cafe will take over the La Brea Bakery structure and bring one of Southern California’s busiest and most beloved restaurants to Downtown Disney." - Matthew Kang
