Porzia - Review - Oakwood - Toronto - The Infatuation

"Porzia’s isn’t exactly central, but the lasagna is worth crossing town to Oakwood Village for. Clocking in at over a pound, it’s a hearty tower of food made of fresh pasta, and we’ve seen every table who orders it deep in games of fork hockey for the last bite. Porzia’s isn’t just a one-hit wonder, though: You can nurse a glass of nebbiolo with spicy rigatoni at the front counter or park yourself at a back table and watch the chefs slice prosciutto from the open kitchen. Start with the radicchio and chicory salad that’s bitter, simple, and perfectly dressed with a tangy balsamic vinaigrette. The burrata and kampachi crudo with citrus chilli are solid, but the spatchcocked Cornish hen is the sleeper hit: super crispy skin and incredibly juicy meat, all bathed in a golden jus. Desserts rotate, but there’s always soft serve in flavors like strawberries and pistachio or coffee with biscotti." - Renée Suen

Food was alright. Kind of disappointed after hearing about all of the hype. It’s a smaller restaurant and has a very cute vibe for a date night. The lasagne itself was overdone and a bit mushy. The mushroom ravioli we thought lacked flavour and the raw mushrooms shaved on top was an odd flavour choice. The focaccia with parm was a nice way to start the meal off. Our fav was the beet salad with pistachios. We had the ricotta cheesecake as well, which was nice and light, but not mind blowing. I don’t think we will be returning.

This spot is a little outside the core Toronto area, so it might take a bit to get there, but it’s totally worth it. The lasagne was beautifully made and the seafood spaghetti was super tasty. The lasagne portion is quite generous, so I’d recommend sharing it with someone. For starters, the calamari was great, and the bruschetta was honestly one of the best I’ve had. For dessert, we went for the soft serve and we demolished it in seconds. I also tried their mocktail Light Wave, which was so good — not too sweet at all, which I really appreciated since most mocktails tend to be. The space itself is small and cozy, with that relaxed, tucked-away feel. Definitely worth the trip.

I normally don’t leave Google reviews, but this one is so bad that I feel like I have to leave one so that I can warn anyone else to not try their lasagna or not to come, because it’s such a waste. I heard of this restaurant from other people online so I booked marked it and was so excited to come here and try out their lasagna. So my bf and I went there for lunch on Saturday, we ordered the fried calamari and lasagna bolognese. The fried calamari was okay, but the lasagna was really, really, really bad. First, we got the corner piece, the corner part was burnt and outside of it turned completely dark. Fun story when they were making the order me and my boyfriend smelled something is burning, turn out was our piece of lasagna was burned…. Not sure if other people had the same problem.. The lasagna itself was pretty flavourless and salty at the same time, The outside part which is covered with cheese and sauce is pretty salty ( just salty, without any flavour of the spice), but the inside is really soggy and flavourless, if there is no sauce, I feel like eating a plain dough. And these cost me ard $65 before tip. This is The WORST lasagna that we have ever had in Toronto. Do you guys know the feeling that you really don’t like this but because you spent money on this, you have to finish this to make it worth? (We still could not finish it at the end because it was BAD). In conclusion, I wasted my quota of a meal and wasted my money at this place. I don’t know why there are so many people hyping about their lasagna, my advice is -DON’T. And the waitresses didn’t even ask us how did we think about the food during the whole meal, maybe they already knew the answer so they chose not to.

Had a wonderful meal here with a group of friends. We had the nonnas special which was well worth the $70! Highlights were definitely the appetisers, corn ravioli, crudo and focaccia (add on). The lasagna was impressive but could use more burnt/crispy edges for more flavour. Got really full before the last meat course was served and could’ve have done without it. Service was beyond excellent. Restaurant was a bit too smoky at times. Would definitely go back!

TLDR: NOT RECOMMENDED. SEVERE DIARRHEA AFTERWARD. We came here yesterday really looking forward to try the food, but unfortunately both my partner and I felt really SICK afterward. It was the first meal of the day for us, and after eating we both had SEVERE DIARRHEA that lasted until the next afternoon. The service itself was actually very good, the staff were professional and friendly, but sadly the food experience was not really good.

Great experience! Food and service incredible. Only downsides were tables a bit too close together and the wine list felt limiting in that most of the options were quite pricey. But absolutely would go again!!

Porzia’s is a true hidden gem, and part of me doesn’t even want to share how good it is! The lasagne Bolognese tastes just like my mother’s—rich, fresh, and absolutely comforting. Every bite feels homemade in the best way. We had a great bottle of wine at a reasonable price, and the eggplant was perfection—tender and full of flavor. The gabagool was incredibly fresh, and the ricotta cheesecake with maraschino cherries? A must. If you’re lucky enough to know about this place, consider yourself in on one of the best-kept secrets in town.

Honestly the place is so cute and has a great atmosphere, a tight space but the food is worth it. The lasagna is 100% worth it. I loved it, you can tell they made that with care. So many layers and a great sauce and just great presentation. Great starters too honestly I don’t think you could have a bad meal here. The drinks weren’t the best, I wish there were a few more options for cocktails and wine by the glass but that’s a small thing.
