Giving the best to a place like the Post Pub seems to me to be the very least. you enter the most classic American style pub you can imagine: a counter running to the right with an experiment of spirits behind it, and pairs of sofas with respective tables on the left. The guy who greeted us, I think the owner us immediately made you feel at ease, and he immediately made himself available for my baby. we started with a pact of really good freshly tapped beers, but the highlight was certainly the meat: two huge and very tasty fillets, run perfectly on a bed of delicious fries. my hamburger: 10 and praise not only for the infinite goodness of the meat but also for the caramelized onion, a perfect touch. Fast, attentive and professional service, with a very fair value for money given the crazy quality of the food is the location located a stone's throw from the White House. We highly recommend it to everyone.

We had ordered dinner online. Overall food was good, the kids liked the burger and spicy chicken sandwich. The truffle potatoes and aioli were delicious. Onion rings were tasteless, unless you will eat it with the sauce.

Google
My Diplomat Bacon Cheddar burger ($12.95) with sweet potato fries ($3) was so good and very reasonably priced for so much food. A good place to enjoy a relaxed, casual lunch.

Google
very friendly service and nice public. I have been there twice and enjoyed both times. Burger is really nice and they offer to prepare meat even rare which is not an option in every bar.

Google
Great dive bar we stumbled upon while staying in DC. Food was good, service great, felt right at home!

Google
The atmosphere was warm. The establishment was full of people. There was no seats at the bar. I found a table in the room near the door. I found the service rushing around (they were busy). Another table was complaining about their wait. It wasn't long before I was able to order a drink and it came in a reasonable time. I ordered the 12 oz New York Strip with a baked potato and a Cesar salad. I didn't wait too long for my food. It was cooked correctly and was delicious. I finished the meal with a piece or carrot cake. It was delicious. I definitely recommend it for those who enjoy sitting with friends and having a drink. It is not large and very dated (it's been there for 40 years with limited updates). I will definitely go again.

Google
In the vicinity of Washington, DC, you will find a nice pub. During the late hours of the night, they serve a variety of hamburgers and rice dishes. This Southern-style chicken burger is delicious and well-prepared. Orange chicken is not a bad choice for a pub meal

Google
It is a little hole in the wall that has barflies and locals rather than the tourist. We had lunch and the hamburgers were very decent and the service was good, and it did not break the bank.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about the post. One of the few bars in the city that actually feel like a pub you can spend all day in and appreciate every minute. Every single staff member is top notch. Will always be my favorite bar in DC, it feels like home. Food is great too! Kitchen is open late, try the diplomat or the Shirley povich!

Yelp
Okay dive bar, but the vibe was a bit off. Nicely priced happy hour drinks. I sat at a booth and was told that a large party is expected to sit there, so I moved to another spot. No one ever came to sit at the booth for over 30 mins. They reuse beer glasses. I was a bit frustrated to have 2 draft beers in the same glass , seems gross to have so many germs on the tap from multiple reused glasses. Overall it's a dive and it was fine. I don't think I'd go back.

Yelp
A nice local dive bar, with a restaurant for the nearly (or those on the road to) wasted. Staff is pretty friendly, keeping tabs on you and watching for openings to slip you another drink. The prices are high, though standard by DC terms ($6.60 for domestic bottles). The place was full of local regulars, three sheets to the wind on a Tuesday night. Most folks seemed to know each other, but they were reasonably welcoming to a visitor from out of town, nothing to write home about. TL;DR: Dive bar.

Yelp
I liked this place. Nothing fancy, real basic bar and basic booths and tables to eat at. The menu looked tasty, especially while drinking or for a hangover. We were staying at the Hay-Adams, and had spent the previous night at their basement bar having $30 drinks, and they weren't all that great. So, I found this place on Yelp, and was happy I did. They even have a reasonably priced fun cocktail menu, which you don't always find at a place like this. The bartender was funny and personable. My husband chatted with a few people, everyone else seemed to live in the area. I think I would join them if I lived in the area.

Yelp
No nonsense local dive bar. Fair HH prices and ok selection of beers. Service was quick. We visited on a slower night and there was one person working the bar. The truffle parmesan fries were pretty good; we got one plate to share between three people. I appreciate when crinkle cut fries are toasty with a nice crunch, and these were just that.

Yelp
Underwhelming experience at this DC staple that I hope was unique to my visit alone. We came for lunch and were seated super quickly in the cool dive bar. After that, the experience soured. Although the restaurant was quite empty, it was hard to flag down our server. Many of our items came out wrong. My friend ordered chicken with no side--it came out with mashed potatoes anyway. I ordered old bay fries that never showed up until I had to flag down our waiter about fifteen minutes after the food came. The food was not great. The queso had a film on top and was watery underneath with stale chips. The fries were perfectly crunchy, but the old bay fries had globs of unseasoned mayo on top that were super unappetizing. The burger was under seasoned, and the mushrooms were watery. It's a cool space with a great history--just wasn't my vibe. Hopefully next time will be better!

Yelp
What a great local divey spot. We stopped in on a Saturday night and they had plenty of seating. We ordered at the bar but sat in a booth. Had to grab a menu and seat ourselves which is no biggie! Got a cocktail while my partner got a beer. We each had a burger which were good! Not the best burger in the world but it hit the spot. The truffle fries were crunchy and addicting. Service was not overwhelming which I appreciated! Plus their tips printed on the receipt were super easy/helpful. This is not a fancy place and certainly won't be the best drink or food you ever have, but it's in a great location and hits the spot. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Classic dive bar. Cheap draft beers / ciders ($8 non happy hour & $6 during 4 - 6 happy hour) Tons of creative topping options for the crinkle cut fries - hot honey and cilantro was great! Bao buns are listed on the menu as "boa buns"... Not the friendliest or quickest service, but a solid spot to grab a cheap beer / bite to eat downtown during the week. There's a couple of tables outside for street seating, or bar / booth seating inside the dimly lit, toasty bar.

Yelp
This place is a great dive bar with great burgers. It's also the cheapest lunch spot downtown. You can choose a much more posh spot but for the money this is one of the best lunch spots. It still looks like it did 15 years ago but solid burgers and the best truffle fries in the district.

Yelp
Post pub. A classic. For context, I come here with two of my coworkers every ~3 to 4 weeks and we have lengthy debriefs on life, love, work, and everything in between. What I love about this place is that we are served quickly and they leave us alone to discuss our matters. We get the same three drinks every time (Stella, Bold rock, and Vienna lager) and they always are cold and in stock (sometimes). Music is always groovy and just loud enough so the other patrons cannot hear our lengthy conversations. Also it's well lit so I can actually see the faces of my friends (unlike Union Trust). Maybe they forgot our fries but who cares! We plan on being here for hours (and we are 22 year old children). YOLO!!! This place holds a lot of sentimental value for us so please give them a visit. And think of us kids when you're here.

Yelp
Oh Post Pub. You aren't quite the same, but I'm so glad you're back. So the original Post Pub (before COVID and the change of owners), was even more of a dive bar. And they had some seriously awesome Buffalo chicken dip (can we petition to bring that back?). We spent oh so many Fridays here after work. So now it has gotten a refresh. But don't worry, it's still dive-y. And it has a new menu (which is to be expected). Upon our return we were pleased with the atmosphere, decor, service, drinks, and food. In sum, it's not quite the same, but it's still one hell of a little pub.

Omi L.

Yelp
I'm sitting here at post they have no tequila no beer on tap they constantly run out of basic items.. The other day my co worker went and they were out of French fries and then served her dip but ran out of nacho chips! The staff is amazing But the owners of this place should be ashamed of themselves!!!

Yelp
Nice little dive bar! The burger and fries were good, I wish they had more beer options on tap. Service was excellent.

Yelp
All y'all dissing this place should get out more. It's a lovely dive spot with friendly staff and tasty drinks for a reasonable price. I modified the description of one menu drink to be less sweet and it was spot on and served with genuine smiles. Had a glass of wine that was shockingly tasty for this type of bar. Just go there and have fun.

Yelp
It's a great dive bar, as long as you keep that in mind, you'll enjoy it. Strong drinks and friendly environment, definitely a good place to have a couple drinks and unwind. I've heard their wings are amazing too

Yelp
I got here an IPA for $7.70 ($5.50during happy hour), but really enjoyed this short time. They have 4 draft beers on tap and some bottles and cans. Nice dive bar. I would definitely get beck to have their famous burger. And I have no idea why do people say their bartenders are rude... What kind of service would you expect in a dive bar? ;)

Josh S.

Yelp
Although a pale echo of what it once was -- the new owners basically gutted the place ("so long old wood paneling, so long decades of memories...") I guess to make it more, uh, hip -- and the new burger names are stupid, it's still a dive bar (albeit more sterile) in downtown. Beer selection, as always, is pretty slim, onion rings are still good, and the staff is very pleasant (and don't seem too strict on enforcing their QR code menu nuttiness). In the end, if you've been there before this new version, you just feel kind of sad.

Michael O.

Yelp
Interesting place. The guacamole was basically a bowl of onions, but I suppose you don't come here for the food. There was a drunk older guy at the bar (I was there at like 2 to 3 p.m.) that was loudly retelling the tale of some bar fight, trying to hook up with some woman, and telling some other guy he looked like a Jeff Dunham character. The bartender couldn't really be bothered but I suppose that's part of the charm of these places.

Yelp
I went to the post pub tonight for dinner. I am in town for a conference and I needed something nice and easy and basic. The burger was good. It was a good basic burger with fries I got Heineken. The vibe was bar like. Complete with bar seating and locals and dim lighting and all that goes with a bar. The food was lovely. The service was good. There is a older lady who was the waitress this evening and she seemed initially a bed standoffish but if that's just her demeanor. The bartender was really nice when around and checked on everybody. The food was good. I recommended if you want to come and grab a quick bite with nobody to bother you. That's what I like about it I was just feeling like being quiet and chill and they definitely did accommodate.

Richard W.

Yelp
Soo, late 1979s and early 80's. The Diplomat Burger and onion rings was about 20% of my lunches. Fast forward to today and both items are just as tasty (and artery hardening) as back then!

Elliott N.

Yelp
Don't go to the Post Pub for their food. It is atrocious. Their chicken sandwich, which is made up of fried scraps of stringy chicken, was inedible. (Most restaurants will make that sandwich with a chicken breast.) The staff was kind enough to replace it with a turkey burger, which was mushy, under-cooked, and overwhelmed by a mass of caramelized onions and a soggy bun. The fries, meanwhile, were greasy and unappetizing. The only thing I could stomach was the salad. And if that wasn't enough, they were out of coffee and tea. All things considered, it was probably the worst lunch I have ever had in D.C.

Joni N.

Yelp
We had lunch here and it was great. I like to support local establishments. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was very good and the crinkle cut fries were delicious!

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Shannon T is the worst bartender. I wish I could give negative ratings I will NEVER be back there. Steer clear of this place. Save your money and time if in the DC area. She will not serve you if you drink more than a beer and accuse you of over drinking when you haven't. DO NOT VISIT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND OTHER PLACES THAN THIS. Do not visit. She will ruin your fun.

Natalyn B.

Yelp
It is our first time here in DC and this was open for a quick meal. I actually love dive bars so the appearance is fine. The place was pretty empty on a Thursday so we sat at a table near bar so my knee scooter would not be in the way. The older waitress made comments that we would be moved if a party of four came in. There were a lot of open tables so this did not seem needed. I asked if there was a handicapped table and she said no absolutely not. So she let us stay. The drinks came fast. We ordered a hamburger and chicken sandwich . My chicken was so overcooked. Just like the turkey in Christmas vacation! My son's hamburger was overcooked but edible. Mine was not. She did remove my meal. She seemed shocked that the food was not good. But the final thing is what prompted this review. There are two rooms, the bar side and a side with tables. My son facing that room saw the biggest rat he has ever seen, 9 inches without including tail, walk around the tables . Needless to say, there has to be rats in the food areas. Choose somewhere else to eat!

Ginger K.

Yelp
Had the absolute best time st this hidden gem tonight. It was such a comfortable and easy going atmosphere. The food was delicious, delivered quickly and such a friendly and helpful server. Great place to sit back and relax after a long day of meetings.

Emily G.

Yelp
Very disappointing. One waitress sours the entire experience. Food is cheap and solid, drinks are cheap, but the waitress was consistently rude and honestly mean. When a friend ordered water, she said "that's not a drink" and continued to roll her eyes at her every time she came back. Would not let us keep a menu because she was busy and acted so annoyed every time we asked for basic service (refill after half an hour, the check). This sucks because the rest of the staff is SO AWESOME

Yelp
This place was awesome! The bartender was super nice, and the truffle fries and Spicy mama drink were delicious! Definitely recommend!! We stopped in after a stressful appointment, and were immediately put at ease.

Yelp
Close to Capital Hilton / one of the best hamburgers I ever had - very dicey feel but cheep and good

Nikolay K.

Yelp
Rude staff, they act like you are bothering them. Lots of attitude for basics ("Can I have a menu, please"?)

Jason B.

Yelp
Post Pub is... an experience. It's quite a sight upon entry, the burgers are great and staff behind the bar were terrific.

Christina R.

Yelp
We love a dive bar when we travel. We haven't been to one since the lock down and I'm so grateful to have found this one because of a great Yelp review. We have tried a few upscale steakhouses during this trip to DC but when we have been visiting museums and riding the rail , walking into a small restaurant is more appealing. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and my husband had the tuna steak. Both are packed full of flavor. My husband said the tuna steak was cooked perfectly and he would be dreaming of it for weeks. My chicken was juicy and clearly fresh. Piping hot fries and happy hour beers are the cherry on top. A+

andrew l.

Yelp
No better place for an ice cold, refreshing beer served by friendly staff in the District of Columbia.

Kristen J.

Yelp
Went here at 9pm on a Saturday night with two friends. Ordered 3 beers totaling $20.90. Paid with $30 cash and the bartender took my money and didn't give me any change. When I asked for my $9.10 change (with full intentions of tipping on the 3 beers we ordered) the (drunk) bartender went back to the register and got a $10 bill and slammed it on the bar in front of me and yelled in front of everyone "here you go, princess!" Apparently he thought he deserved a $10 (50%) tip on a check for three beers. I've been in the service industry for 15 years. This place deserves 0% gratuity for customer service. Would not recommend. Take your business elsewhere.
