HIDDEN GEM ALERT! I repeat, HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!!!!!!
You guys, whatever words follow do not do this place justice. Let's start at the beginning:
Location - Situated in the trendy and resurging Bishop Arts District
Décor - In one word: Quaint. From the outside, it looks like just another house in the neighborhood, but as soon as you walk in, you are surrounded with French charm and warmth. Perfect place for any occasion.
Food - Phenomenal! These guys pay attention to every single detail, and their passion comes out in their food. To start, we were given these small pastries before we ordered. They were filled with a cream that wasn't too sweet, and did just the trick to stimulate our appetite. I went on a Saturday morning and opted to get some green tea. I opted for the Peach Champagne blend, which I suspect they blend in house. Even if you are not much of a tea drinker, this is worth trying! It was so well balanced and full of flavor. The cup is served with another small cookie, which had just the perfect texture.
For my entrée, I decided to go with the chicken salad sandwich. While we waited, my friend ordered us some Sandies, which were definitely the best I've had. They had an absolute perfect texture, and were not too sweet. At $0.75 a pop, I highly recommend you try one. But fair warning, it's impossible to order just one. When my sandwich came, the bread was still warm and delicious. The chicken salad consist of the following: roasted chicken, celery, shallot, aioli, spinach, celery leaf, and fine herbs. None of these items overpowered one another, and for being just a chicken salad sandwich, the dish was very balanced and satisfying.
Lastly, we got a piece of brioche. OMG, the brioche you guys is the bomb! Buttery, flaky, delicious! It is the most satisfying piece of bread you will eat.
Value - Given the location, décor, and items, you might think this place is going to be very expensive, but you would be mistaken. This place is an incredible value and very modestly priced. I even told the owner I felt guilty for eating such a delicious meal at such a low price.
Service - 5 stars all around. This is a family run business with two brothers and their parents operating the business. One of the brother took our orders while the other was in the back preparing the food. The mother is the kindest/sweetest lady you will ever meet, and when she's not making awesome cakes, she comes around to greet all of the customers with a smile. The dad is usually overseeing everything, but he came by our table to make sure everything was to our liking as well.
All in all, I cannot recommend this place enough. Definitely a must go!
