The 38 Best Pittsburgh Restaurants - Eater

"Restaurateur Richard DeShantz owns a few restaurants around Pittsburgh, including this French-inspired bistro. Since 2018, Poulet Bleu has provided delicious escargot and nicoise salads to diners without the costly plane ticket. Go for the filet mignon, served with your choice of bearnaise, Bordelaise, pepper sauce, or house sauce. If the fries on the side aren’t enough, complement your meal with fondue-like aligot, a blend of cheese and mashed potatoes that’s as satisfying as it sounds. If you somehow save room for dessert, be sure to try the fluffy, light chocolate mousse." - Briana L White

The 14 Best New Restaurants in Pittsburgh | Eater

"This French bistro from chef Rick DeShantz and business partner Tolga Sevdik is a candlelit stunner with floral wallpaper, blue-tile accents, and an open kitchen anchored by a blue French Hestan range. Look for a menu of terrines, mussels, dolled-up chicken, pot-au-feu, and steak frites. But the desserts steal the show, in particular the chocolate souffle for two served with creme Anglaise, chocolate sauce, cherry compote, and more." - Melissa McCart

Poulet Bleu Is Pittsburgh’s Hottest New Restaurant | Eater

"A new French restaurant in Lawrenceville from chef Richard DeShantz and partner Tolga Sevdik has opened its ground-floor dining room (with a second floor, roof deck, and expanded outdoors on track to open by spring). Seating just under 50, the spot departs from DeShantz’s usual downtown watering-hole-or-steakhouse dichotomy for a more refined, candle-lit experience—floral wallpaper, blue tiles, and a French-blue Hestan range anchor a dining room into which the kitchen seamlessly flows, a design executed by DeShantz and his brother Ron and reflective of his art-school background. The menu, developed with executive chef David Racicot (a multiple James Beard longlistee) and executed by chef de cuisine Ryan Hart, leans classic French: steak frites, pot au feu, and skate wing meunière appear alongside a breakout French onion soup built from a pound of oxtail and onions, Cognac-laced veal stock that nearly reaches the lip of the bowl, and a broiled baguette “raft” topped with Emmental and Comté—the diner punctures the taut cheese to release the broth and then spoons through shredded oxtail and sweet onions (DeShantz says of presentation, “I hate when the cheese sinks a little”). A small entrance bar overseen by Cecil Usher focuses on classics (a vodka gimlet with lime cordial, St. Germain and a dash of lavender bitters, French 75s), while sommelier John Wabeck has assembled a mostly French, food-friendly wine list aimed at over-delivering for the price and capable of suggesting after-dinner pours like Sauternes or Kirschwasser. Desserts nod to DeShantz’s pastry roots—crème brûlée, yuzu lemon curd pavlova, profiteroles, beignets, clafoutis—and the chocolate soufflé, a pouf for two served with crème anglaise and cherry compote, is an early favorite. The combination of design, careful cooking, and timing—French restaurants are back in style—has produced packed seats and busy reservations, yet the team intends the place to feel approachable and spontaneous for locals rather than off-limits to regulars." - Melissa McCart

Wow! My wife and I were in town for our 20th Anniversary and made reservations here hoping for a decent restaurant. However what we got was nothing short of amazing! Seriously this is what fine dining should always be, with so many wannabes especially in Columbus, OH where we live, I'm looking at you Cameron Mitchell. Poulet Bleu's interior has a beautiful french polynesian vibe. The food is spectacular and the service was friendly, attentive and unpretentious. I had the duck, very well cooked and served with hericot verts and a delicious sour cherry sauce. My wife had the filet with cognac pepper sauce and perfect fries (seriously perfect). Filet was so well done and sauce was complimentary without being overpowering. Also had local cheese plate that was terrific. The improved Whiskey Cocktail was truly delicious and balanced. For dessert it was the Hazelnut Souffle, beautifully cooked and presented, just enough sweetness and paired with ice cream and cherry sauce. Just fabulous. We style ourselves as minor food critics and this was just an fantastic experience. Thank you Poulet Bleu!

Google
Perfect dinner, excellent service, delicious food, and lovely, tasteful decor. We made reservations and chose the table in front of the open kitchen. It was nice to see how seamlessly everything was paced and balanced. All the meals were executed flawlessly, everything was organized, clean, efficient, and precise. The portions are large and ample and filling. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly but not overbearing. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing and I was impressed with the pacing...we never felt rushed. We sat to the right of the kitchen and never felt crowded or disruptive or displaced, it was pretty interesting to watch. This was by far one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had to date in Pittsburgh. With or without the wine pairing (we chose cocktails) the food was exceptionally delicious. What an enjoyable and satisfying evening. Do NOT skip dessert!!!

Google
It was absolutely fantastic, and that all started with our server Dustin. He was fantastic and spent a lot of time answering any questions we had. Our appetizers, the Escargot and the Beef Tartare, were both fantastic. Then for entrees we had the duck and the salmon, both incredible as well, with the roasted carrots on the side. We finished with the soufflé. Everything was incredible and I really can't recommend this place enough for a special occasion.

Google
This was our first time at Poulet Bleu and overall it was an incredible experience. To start, it's not widely advertised, but this is a BYOB establishment - their cork fee is high at $20, however in the same turn their cheapest bottle of wine is $65 so it was a no brainer to bring our own. We chose to sample all of their small plates, opposed to getting entrees, and started with the french onion soup that was highly recommended. They split into 2 for us as it's a large portion. It was phenomenal!!!! We also had the escargot, mussels, and steak tartare paired with the sides of carrots and potatoes aligot. Everything was out of this world and would 100% go back again. It is a pricey restaurant, but worth every penny, especially for a special occasion.

Google
Had reservations for 5pm, arrived 10 minutes early, was not allowed in, even to the foyer, had to wait outside (in December) - We could see through the window they were having a staff meeting at the bar area. Which ended at 5. Then they keep us waiting outside without their outside heater on until at least 5 minutes after 5 - one of our party had to go inside to ask if we could 'enter'. Staff was nice, some of our party thought food was great, specifically the steak, but hard to have a great time when the evening starts out by having to sit out in the cold for 15 minutes. It's a good thing the people we were with made up for sitting out in the cold, We had a wonderful night. Atmosphere very nice.

Google
Best French restaurant I have ever been to in the US. French onion oil is the best I ever had in my life. Atmosphere is very authentic and service is European style, so very relaxed atmosphere. We spent two hours here and savored every minute of it, watching the chefs!

Google
Great experience! The upstairs bar was a great place to start and have drinks as the menu there is larger. Our bartender was very engaging and happy to chat it up with us. Downstairs the food was a treat, with the open kitchen right next to the dining area you can hear, see, and smell everything being prepped. We had the escargot, mussels, trout, Brussel Sprouts, and chocolate souffle. Highly recommend them all!

Google
At first I was nervous and anxious about going out to eat due to having multiple food allergies. Wheat,Gluten,Dairy, and, and Soy. Greg (manager) called me ahead of the reservation to make sure he had all the food allergies correct and assured me that modifications will be made accordingly and for me not to worry, stress, and get anxious that he will take care of everything. In less than 5 minutes of the hostess sitting us down Greg came over and asked me how everything was and said to pick anything my heart desired on the menu and modifications would be made accordingly! Truly one of a kind of dinning experience. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to experience top quality service combined with exceptional quality food that will truly satisfy your taste buds regardless of dietary restrictions and food allergies. I highly recommend Poulet Blue as a top restaurant in Pittsburgh!

Yelp
Went here back in Sept 2022 and only getting around to writing this review now, but I'm sad to see that it's temporarily closed! This was such a cute quaint restaurant for hearty French food. The vibe inside is very classy and makes you feel like you're actually dining in a romantic little restaurant in France. The open kitchen is so nice to see too! I'm personally not a huge fan of French food (it's usually a little too heavy for me) but was pretty impressed by the food. The French onion soup was really flavorful, and the side baguette was great and tasted freshly baked. We also got filet mignon, which came with shoestring type fries, and the chicken forestiere dish. All were very flavorful and rich. Definitely a super hearty meal! The service here was excellent and we felt well taken care of the whole night. Would be perfect for a Valentine's day date or any other date night honestly.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. Just sophisticated enough yet also homely French countryside vibes. Decent wine list, the elderflower lemonade is really good. Cocktails are good. Food is very well-made, the steak can be overcooked sometimes, but all of the classic French dishes are great. And the souffle is REALLY good, order in advance and you won't regret it.

Yelp
I would say it's my go to place for French dining, which is hard to find in Pittsburgh. I haven't been to many French restaurants here, but I always enjoy the restaurants under the DeSchantz group. They all have a more modern touch to classic menus, with nice ambiance and inviting spaces. Service is always great. [Burgundy Escargot] [Baguette] were the petit plats that blew me away. I love escargot but they're a rare find on menus. The baguette was something I had low expectations for but turned out to be surprisingly delicious. The butter for it was amazing. [French Onion Soup] was why I only gave 4 stars. Might be bad luck, but the one I had was really salty. Couldn't even try more than a few bites, let alone finish it. [Seared Foie Gras] is technically an appetizer but I had it as an entree. Personally, I felt the portion was enough for an entree and none of the other entrees stood out to me (also another semi-reason I only gave 4 stars, in comparison to their sister restaurants, I felt that there weren't as many entrees that were intriguing. The appetizers were better). I really enjoyed this duck though, this is one of my favorite duck dishes in Pittsburgh. Grilled to perfection. It is better than their [Duck Confit]. [New York Strip Steak] in comparison was less impressive, but still good nonetheless. Drinks and desserts were both fine, nothing that left a super big impression but I still liked them. Favorite was probably the chocolate soufflé. As I'm writing this review in retrospect, I noticed they're temporarily closed. Looking forward to the re-opening!

Yelp
This restaurant is the absolute cutest, you feel like you're in Martha Stewart's personal home kitchen! You truly get to see how the kitchen works and watch your food be prepared which is special. I started with the french onion soup, which was very good and full of flavor which so many others lack. The mussels...I will dream of these and foam at the mouth every time. The broth I would BATHE in! They were beautifully cooked and you want to dip every piece of bread in this broth and leave the plate clean, for sure! My husband loved the pate, with baguette of course. Can never have enough bread here. The gnocchi was cooked to perfection with a little crust, covered in parmesan cheese. The onions, mushroom, and garlic in this dish made it amazing. The roast duck...theme here is COOKED TO PERFECTION. As the French would do it!!! YUM! The skin was rendered and crispy, walnuts added that texture element, and the sauce was very much needed with the barley. Eat everything in one bite makes the perfect bite. We finished with an orange pastry desert that I can't think of the name of but it was DELISH. It came with the best 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream that just melted with the warm dough. We will most definitely be eating here again. Look forward to it.

Yelp
Another staple in Lawrenceville. Highly recommend to try out their small plates if you are first time around. Some of my favorites are their steak tartare, liver pate and mussels. This time the steak tartare is topped with shaved Parmesan, it went so well with the beef. Pate is foie gras and chicken liver, I always love a good pate and this one is for sure creamy and delicious. Mussel is another must-have, a great deal too for a good portion of them. Escargot is an okay but the butter comes with it was just perfect for the baguette! For mains, we shared the roast duck and added a side of roasted carrots. Love both. - FYI the inside near bar area and chef counter tend to be a lil noisy, and highly recommend to make a reservation ahead of time. Overall, a great place for a date night, girls night just to treat yourself.

Yelp
Heard rave reviews for this place, and specifically heard a recommendation to sit at the "chef's table" where you're seated at the countertop where chefs prepare food so you feel like you're in the action. Upon being seated, I was a little disappointed because there are no chairs directly in front of the chefs, that's the area where waiters pick up the food. Not sure why they wouldn't have seating there since that seems like the best place for diners to sit and witness the food prep. We were seated off to the side by the sink which didn't feel that glamorous. We ordered several dishes and split them: -Warm Olives: These were good but pretty standard and simple. Olives with garlic. -Escargot: I love escargot and I thought these were just okay. Wish they packed more flavor and had more garlic. Comes with baguette but not entirely sure how you're supposed to eat it with bread. Wish the baguette was toasted and/or warm. -Warm Oysters: These were pretty good but we told the waiter we couldn't have dairy (lactose intolerant), and we're fairly certain these had dairy in them. -Ribeye for 2: Comes with bone marrow. This was good, though there was a lot of fat on the meat. Fun to share though. The fries on the side were actually really good. Maybe my favorite part of the meal lol. Overall, the dinner was decent. Service was a little iffy. We felt our waiter was slightly annoyed and impatient by our indecisiveness with what to order and our questions. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and they gave us a glass of champagne at the end, which was a nice touch and we really appreciated.

Yelp
We received a gift card for this restaurant a LONG time ago. First, we could never get a reservation (don't live downtown and couldn't just walk in) and second, it's been closed it's seems like forever. What to do with our gift card. We were really looking forward to going to this restaurant.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh! The ambiance is AMAZING, drinks are top-notch, food is INCREDIBLE, and it's a lively, fun vibe. Last night I ordered the striped bass entree, which was perfection! The aligot potatoes are a MUST! I've been here so many times, I'm not sure why I have never reviewed this place! Always consistently delicious !

Yelp
I didn't even know I liked French food until we went to Poulet Bleu, and now I cannot wait to go back and try more! We made our dinner reservation about a month in advance, so there was a lot of build up for this meal, and it did not disappoint! The inside decor has a homey feel, with limited seating that is pretty close together. We came here for a celebratory meal, so we went all out with apps, meals, and dessert. The escargot and frites were delicious and the perfect starter for our meal. Our entrees came out quickly and were so tender and full of flavor. To finish off, we had to get the beignets. My husband isn't even a dessert person, and he crushed them, so you know they were good! In addition to the fantastic food, the service matched, with our server being very attentive and outgoing. While we wouldn't eat here every week (it's a little bit pricey), Poulet Bleu is the perfect spot for a special occasion meal!

Yelp
I stopped by here awhile ago now on a Wednesday evening with my wife for a celebratory dinner. She had made reservations ahead of time for 5:30 PM and had to put in a credit card to secure those reservations. We ended up arriving at Poulet Blue at around our reservation time and our table was ready. In the reservation my wife requested outdoor seating and they originally were going to have us in the upstairs outdoor area. However, the hostess saw my wife's crutches and asked if we wanted the downstairs outdoor seating which we readily agreed to. Due to this, I didn't really see much of the restaurant as I never stepped foot out of the front courtyard. The courtyard itself abuts Butler Street and has a giant fountain in the middle. Its seats look French from the pattern and black and white standpoint that and I could see some wallpaper which my wife said reminded her of France as well. Finally there were fans that were on the night that we were there since it was hot but they also have a massive heat lamp for when the weather is cooler. For dinner on this day I decided to start off our meal with a local beer while my wife went with a Malbec. Then for dinner my wife went with the swordfish while I went with the roast duck. As a side we decided to split an order of the frites as who can go to a French bistro without ordering some? After what seemed like a relatively short wait our frites came out followed by our entrees about a minute or so later. So the first items that my wife and I got to try were the frites and two dipping sauces which were a garlic aoili and a mornay. The frites were super crispy as you expect and seasoned nicely. Both my wife and I loved both dipping sauces and had a hard time picking a favorite although I think I liked the aoili better by the tiniest of margins. Not too long after that our dinner entrees came out. My duck ended up being fantastic and I loved it while my wife also enjoyed her swordfish. Then after we had thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we saw beignets on the dessert menu and had to have those. They were light and pillowy with great dipping sauces. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. All of the food that we had here was great and my wife did a great job picking this restaurant.

Yelp
The atmosphere of this restaurant is charming, warming, and intimate. The service was wonderful and attentive. It's a perfect setting for a date night or a intimate dinner with a small group of close friends/family. Food was overall great - just a little on the pricier side for the quality and quantity. In my mind, I'm paying for the environment as well and it's worth it. - French onion soup was plenty generous with gooey cheese and that deep onion flavor perfect for a cold. - The mussels were ok. I was a fan of the broth - it had a savory flavor with a bitter undertone, which threw off my +1. - The foie gras was my favorite appetizer and was so silky smooth. Just melts in your mouth. It paired wonderfully with the apple puree. - The roast duck was delicious. The duck was tender and served beautifully with a luscious sweet potato puree. - Leave it to my +1 for ordering a burger at a French restaurant but it was delicious! Plus you get a side of the frites. The burger was cooked to the juicy perfection of medium rare. Horseradish had a strong presence in the burger so I'd recommend against it if you're not a horseradish fan. But luckily we are! My regret is that I didn't stop my +1 from ordering 5 appetizers, so we were too full to have the chocolate souffle for 2.

Yelp
Perfect date night spot! Fantastic food, great cocktails & awesome service! We enjoyed escargot, steak tartare, duck confit, pommel frites, & roasted carrots. Our server recommended what to pair together for each course which worked out great. Seriously, every single dish was amazing- we couldn't pick our favorite! To end the night, we split the crime brûlée, which was to die for, accompanied with espresso martinis (best in the city)!

Yelp
Walking into Poulet Bleu is like being transported into the south of France. The blue and white decor and the dainty dishware have an authentic feel. I love the open kitchen and being able to hear the staff call out the orders. And the food is amazing. My favorite is the French Onion Soup. The oxtail has simmered so long that it just falls apart! Also, as a Gin lover, they have an amazing selection of Gins from all over!

Yelp
We visited Poulet Bleu a few years ago and had a phenomenal evening. I was excited to return for my birthday dinner this year.. unfortunately, this experience was not quite the same. First, they sat us at a table that was very much broken. When I say the top was "wobbly" I mean it was like a seesaw. If one of us rested on the table too abruptly, the other's drink may have went flying. Next, the service- Our server was very nice. He was polite and explained the menu very thoroughly. The menu/food- They're still doing the QR code dinner menu but providing traditional menus for drinks? This seemed a bit informal & inconsistent. Pulling my phone out at a nice dinner is the last thing I want to do. Moving on to the contents of the menu, Picky eaters beware- the menu is limited. I don't remember it being so inadequate when we visited years ago, so this was pretty disappointing. There are barley any chicken options (I honestly don't think there was even one). I was forced to order a burger. It was good, alittle salty.. The swordfish was cooked well but extremely salty. Sent the plate back unfinished. We also ordered the cheese plate. Average. **One thing I will not deny is the roasted carrots- 10/10. Delicious. The ambiance- the decor is cute & trendy. I really appreciated the cozy & elegant atmosphere. However, since the kitchen is in the center of the room (typically a very cool feature) the restaurant was extremely hot on this particular evening. I'm sure they have AC and I noticed the ceiling fans going, but it was pretty bad. I'm not sure if there's even a realistic solution to this? Either way, it was unbearable & the heat alone made it hard to enjoy our meal. Aside from all this, we were mostly disappointed and saddened to see the overall vibe has changed from an upscale fine dining experience to a very casual, hipster gathering. No dress code, Men at the dinner table in baseball caps and cutoff shirts & women in gym leggings. This made me sad. This place was once great, but unfortunately there were too many small incidents for us to ignore.. This is supposed to be one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh, where you have to make reservations well in advance. The experience no longer lives up to that. It seems they may have lost touch with the little things that made them so special. Sadly, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
We had been dying to try Poulet Bleu since they opened and it was definitely worth the wait! Everything we had was truly Devine. It is located in Lawrenceville so the parking was a bit of a challenge and we had to park far away from the restaurant. This is expected in the city though so we didn't mind. Once we arrived, we were taken to our table which was located right by the kitchen so we could see the meals being cooked which was cool! We started with some drinks - I got an old fashioned and it was one of the best I've had. We then ordered some appetizers - we got the baguette with warm olives and the escargot. I don't eat the escargot but the group I was with said they were delectable. For our entrees, we got a sampling of dishes for family style dining (highly recommended so you can try everything!). We got the roast duck, truffle risotto, beef bourguignon and the filet mignon. The sides are a la carte so we got the aligot potatoes, asparagus and the roasted carrots. Everything was amazing and it was one of the best meals I've had. For desert, we got the soufflé. You have to order this when you're ordering your entree because they make each one fresh. It was truly delightful! Overall, one of the best meals I've ever had and I'm dreaming about my next visit!

Yelp
Had a lovely evening dining outside & looking at the lovely views. It was hot out but never too hot for some French onion soup! Lol it's a favorite of mine and I had to get it. I tried the risotto for my main course and it was delish. I also love getting the burger , in the past I got that and it was hard to try something new but it did not disappoint. Everything was so yummy, the staff was friendly & attentive ! Can't wait to go back again. The desserts are so good we did the chocolate mousse after seeing an Instagram post advertisement! The crème brûlée was also amazing.

Yelp
I typically steer clear of French cuisine, but a couple friends said that Poulet Bleu was a must try. First of all the interior is like a hidden paradise in the heart of Lawrenceville. The upstairs decor feels more tropical than anything (which I like). Our group opted for balcony seating which offered a great view of the city on this clear summer night. Our group is the indulgent type so we had to try a little bit of everything. Mussels, Cheese plate, tar tar and of course escargot (which most of us tried for the first time) were the starters. Snails weren't half bad! For wine, we had two bottles of Bordeaux which were stellar. PS the wine server was great to chat with for the quick moments he was there. The steak was.. (I can't stress the enough) was to die for. Again French food is not my fav, BUT I'll for sure be coming back to this place. Hats off to this team.

Yelp
Every time we eat here I think "why don't we come here more often" the food is always perfection. The menu is isn't big but each dish explodes with flavor, making you want to come back again and again. Cannot wait to go back. Tip - We didn't have reservations but we easily got a seat at the bar around 7:00 on a Friday.

Yelp
We asked to sit on the outdoor second floor patio through Yelp RSVP and it was so nice watching the sunset as we ate. It's my second time coming to Poulet bleu and the quality of the food between the years I've been is still excellent. The mushroom risotto was so light and creamy and had a really strong blast of umami. The duck roast I asked to be rare but they usually serve it at medium rare. It had such a light but flavorful crust. The tart raspberry sauce paired really nicely with the savory duck. I thought the panisse was just ok with the duck. The pate was super super light and creamy and the fat and salt on top was savory and worked great. Escargot was buttery and had a good bite to it. Our servers were so sweet and accommodating to my food allergies and had yummy recommendations for drinks and food. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I went here on a date night and got the escargot and the filet mignon. The filet mignon was absolutely fantastic and had a cream sauce on top of it that was served with thin fries that were also very delicious. We showed up late to our reservation and the staff was very patient with us, along with our waiter who was very attentive and friendly. Overall I had a very good experience and would definitely return. The food was amazing and was the style of this restaurant, especially the upstairs as the it has to a tropical feel to it.

Yelp
As elegant of a dining experience as Pittsburgh has to offer! The truffle risotto is heavenly. The soufflée is a must try as well! This is a beautiful location with wonderful staff and delicious options from start to finish.

Yelp
Excellent meal in a comfortable setting. The cocktails are creative and every plate on the menu is a treat. We particularly enjoyed the Cheese Plate and Duck Confit. The staff is helpful and attentive. We will return.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, incredible food! Here's our order: -French Onion soup: best we've ever had. Shareable for sure. -Shared the Ribeye for two: so good. Presentation was gorgeous and the food was equally as delicious. -Side of frites, definitely didn't need them (so much food) but worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh! The food and service is always perfect! The champagne is always delicious, and I love feeling transported into a hip French bistro. The carrots are always a must for me. The French onion soup is fab and they will split it into two bowls. The salmon I had last time was incredible, and I'm super picky about salmon. I also like getting the duck confit. It's the perfect small plate. For dessert, the soufflé is delicious, and worth trying. We love the beignets. They come hot, are filled with creme anglaise and come w a cold chocolate dipping sauce.

Yelp
Poulet Bleu was one of the most amazing meals I've had in a long time. First, the ambiance of the courtyard is beautiful. The staff was attentive and helpful with suggestions. The service was also quick. We had a delicious array of appetizers. There is also an extensive wine selection, which our waiter helped us choose from. Everything was cooked and prepared perfectly. The paté was probably the best I've ever had. We had the duck, which was delicious as well. The chocolate soufflé was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend getting that! Overall, an amazing experience. Highly recommend, and we hope to go back soon!

Yelp
I would give them a 3.5. I went with a bunch of friends and the decor is nice. But the food is very expensive is mediocre. I ordered the scallops and chocolate mousse. The scallops were so salty that the saltiness is all I remember from it. The soufflé was for two and so it was ginormous. The chocolate mousse was nice but also too much. I think for the portion of their mains, they should kept the portions for dessert small too. Size definitely took away the finesse element. My friend ordered their steak for two and it tasted just like a normal steak and nothing more special. The bone marrow that they had as a side contained literally a skinny strip of it so definitely not worth.

Yelp
Unreal meal here and the design is so cool. Love the upstairs bar area. Just good vibes all around.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend came here last month. Our experience here was fantastic. We sat on the front patio next the the fountain. The atmosphere is perfect for summer :) We had the baguette, beef bourguignon, roasted carrots, aligot, chocolate soufflé, and lemon semifreddo. We shared our sides and main dish, and app. The cultured butter with the chives was SO good, and I thought the butter pot was very cute too. The beef was very tender and the vegetables were a good texture. It went very well with our vegetable side dishes. I had a lot of food id never had before, or never done in this way i should say, and i was pleased by everyone. The aligot was SO filling, but worth taking home. We honestly werent huge on the creme fraise but the carrots themselves were so so good. Out of the two desserts we shared the lemon semifreddo was our favorite. If you like lemon remotely, its for you. Very silky and the sauce that was with it paired well. The chocolate souffle was no let me down though. We loved it too! It was amazing. I hope i am able to try the weekend specialty flavors in the future. Our curly haired busser was so kind and nice :) and our server was great too. Every bite is worth the price. And the decor and service reinforces that sentiment as well :) The plates were so visually pleasing. Thank you Poulet! :)

Yelp
First time back to Poulet Bleu in a while for us. We went with the hopes of dinning outdoors (but knew that without a reservation that it would be a low probability). We settled for seats at the bar, which we've done in the past and never regret. The servers are real pros and make great cocktails and serve some really lovely wines while you consider the gastronomics. If you've never had the pleasure of dining at Poulet Bleu, go now! I recommend the Steak Frites and often will substitute fries (which are amazing) for the Aligot potatoes. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
The ambiance of the place is a 10/10. I'll lead with that. I've been to Poulet Bleu a few times. This time I got the truffle black mushroom risotto which was strong and delicious! I didn't enjoy the lobster spaghetti simply because there's a licorice taste from the tarragone. The waiters we had were funny and gave great suggestions like the rose lemonade mocktail! I got two! The igloo experience was nice although we went on a warm day and the structure kept the heat trapped inside. My suggestion is to plan for a cooler evening or to just suck it up and have a great time anyway like we did!

Yelp
Amazing French food! It gets very busy, definitely make a reservation weeks in advance since it can be hard to get in last minute. It is on the smaller side inside and when the weather is nice they have an outside patio. The kitchen is open concept, while it is cool to see, it is very noisy and loud. They also have the tables close to one another, so you can hear the people next to you. The food is excellent. When Duck is on the menu we are always getting it! The leg is the best, very tender and the meat falls right off with a nice flavor. The French style gnocchis are also very good, they are made with a pastry dough which makes them very light. Don't miss out on the aligot potatoes! They are basically 80% cheese and 20% potatoes, the best!

Yelp
I adore this restaurant. I just wish I had an easier time making reservations - they book so far out, and they're popular for a reason! Every meal I've enjoyed here has been a delight. Their menu changes here and there from a seasonal standpoint as well as an evolving one, as this place has only gotten better over time. I've eaten three times in the main dining room, which I highly recommend for the purpose of watching the kitchen and smelling all the delicious food. Everything on the menu is so good and so richly flavored. The French onion soup is a must. Their soufflé is so fun and dramatic, but I do also love the chocolate mousse, an unsung hero of the dessert menu. Perfect for special occasions or a fun night out!

Yelp
First impression: French country decor made me immediately fall in love. Perfect use of quirky space with high ceilings, transoms and blue and white and gold throughout. Win: We were seated at the chef's table! We had a party of 11 that could not be accommodated together (quirky space!) so another couple and I volunteered for the smaller table, not realizing it was the chef's table. The rest of our party was right behind us. I'm sure I made the sous chef a little annoyed with my questions, but he was super chill. Drinks: My husband opted for a reasonable red blend which was yummy. I had the French 75 with sparkling wine, gin, lemon and sugar. Not a gin fan, but this was a perfect and pretty cocktail. For food, we started with the baguette and herbed butter along with the kale and Brussels salad. It was ok, but not a Brussels sprout in site. Mike had the burger and lucky for him, the fryer was broken, so he had the potatoes with Gruyère as a substitute. He was not unhappy with the switch. I had the chicken, fantastic! We were too full for dessert but the rest of the party loved their soufflés. Our server was Mark, who was absolutely perfect and patiently took care of a somewhat rowdy bunch. The service overall: classy and respectful. Definitely will return, but not with a large party. This was an intimate experience and better suited as such. Thank you, Poulet Bleu.

Yelp
We had excellent service. The drinks and food were delicious. I recommend the French 75 cocktail, cheese plate, and steak frites. We also loved the bread and butter. The ambiance and decor was also really nice. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Eating here was an experience I won't soon forget! Everything we ordered was incredible, I had the duck for dinner and it stole the show. I highly suggest this place for a date night or a fancy dinner!

Yelp
Poulet bleu never ever disappoints. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible and unlike anything else in Pittsburgh. There are so many incredible food options so definitely come hungry! I ordered the bistro burger which came with pomme frites (a MUST), aligot potatoes, a small French press of decaf coffee and a soufflé. The burger cooked medium was perfection and the frites were so flavorful I didn't even need the ketchup! The aligot potatoes are perfect for sharing between the table because there is a plentiful amount and they are so decadent. I ended my meal with the soufflé and a French press of decaf coffee. The soufflé is truly incredible especially when you add in the vanilla bean ice cream and delicious little toppings. You will be paying a little more than a typical dining experience in Pittsburgh but OH MY is it worth it. The front patio, high top seating at the chef station, upstairs seating, and deck seating is all perfect. You could go here over and over and find something new that you love every single time whether it is food, drinks, or ambiance. A must visit restaurant.

Yelp
We visited Poulet Bleu for my birthday & it certainly lived up to the hype for a wonderful dining experience. We were already in the area getting cocktails so arrived before our reservation & found a seat at the bar while we waited for our table. I got the Allez les bleus cocktail with reposado, gin, curaçao, & elderflower. It was delicious. They prepared a table for us upstairs & were able to transfer our tab to make it super seamless & easy for us. While the downstairs is the more classic French vibe, the upstairs has more fun details like tropical wallpaper & monkey decor - very cute. There's also a bar up there that wasn't busy, so if you can't find a place downstairs it might be an option! Our table for 2 was romantic, but quite small & very close to the others so you can hear everyone's conversations. That was ok with us, but is something to know. Our server was very professional, still funny & not too uptight, willing to answer questions & make recommendations. We started with mussels, baguette (didn't need to order this bc mussels came with it too), & French onion soup. All were good. My husband got the soup (which I didn't think I'd like) & it was phenomenal. By the time we were ready to put in entrees I was basically full. My husband got the duck & I just got the insanely delicious aligot potatoes. They're not to be missed! We finished everything off with a birthday creme brûlée & some French 75s. We left stuffed but incredibly happy with our experience. We'll be back again for a birthday or special occasion as there are many more menu items we are excited to try!

Yelp
Poulet Bleu is so cute inside, has great food, and incredible service! I went here for my birthday and they really made it special. You definitely need to make a reservation ahead of time, although I think people can walk in and sit at the bar now! There were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, but since it was my first time there I felt like I should go for the mussels. I am so glad I did! They were salty and had the white wine garlic flavor you would expect. The crusty bread was perfect for soaking up all the broth at the end. We loved the carrot dish! The carrots were paired with a creme fraiche that was light and fluffy, and had candied hazelnuts on top. They were sweet and savory. My boyfriend raved about the bistro burger. We both enjoyed the fries - I wonder if they are double fried or fried in duck fat? There is something about them that makes them so different and addictive! I will definitely order my own fries next time to dip in the mussels broth. We ordered the chocolate soufflé at the beginning of the meal so it would be ready when we were done with dinner. It came with several bowls of toppings and homemade ice cream. This was my first time trying soufflé and I really enjoyed it! Then, they brought out complimentary beignets for my birthday! Our whole dining experience was amazing. I can't wait to go here for another special occasion.

Yelp
Can't talk to your companion, or waiter. The acoustics are overwhelming. I like a lively atmosphere, but it was too much. The food was acceptable, but I constantly felt like putting my fingers in my ears. So I can't remember how well the food tasted. Couple of timesI wanted to get the waitress's attention, wasn't happening.

Yelp
I made a reservation on a random Wednesday afternoon for my boyfriend and I to finally go to Poulet Bleu! I have been wanting to go for awhile now but reservations are hard to come by for dinner from 6-9pm. It was a good excuse for us to dress up and go out! The drinks were very good. I definitely should not have ordered the mussels for just myself - way too much portion wise for one person. My boyfriend got the French onion soup which was much better sized for an indic. It's definitely a special restaurant with delicious food! I got the French gnocchi and my boyfriend got to salmon. French gnocchi = melt in your mouth, sooo good. I sadly didn't have enough room in my stomach for dessert so I'll definitely come back for that.

Yelp
Poulet Bleu lost nothing over the pandemic shutdown. Dinner tonight was excellent, as always. We had salad, French onion soup, mussels, and frites, never getting down to the large plate section or the deserts. Also, a red Bordeaux, of course. Service was just right. The only disappointment was being seated upstairs, which lacks the feel of the downstairs French bistro atmosphere. We'll be regulars soon.

Yelp
If a restaurant takes 4 weeks to get a rezzy and charges over 100/ person, it better be incredible. This however was not. Steak was over cooked. Truffle risotto was soupy at best. Fries were salty. But not as salty as the waiter Tyler's assistant. She made things uncomfortable on several occasions. I would consider going back for the top deck city views and a drink. But wouldn't touch the French steak bistro food experience with a 10 foot pole. My wallet thanks me, but my belly even more so. Wont be going back

Yelp
Top of the line. Great place for a special meal. Minimum words for a review is unnecessary.

Yelp
I very rarely struggle to choose the "standout" item of an evening, however, when everything is as delightful and photogenic as every dish at @pouletbleupgh, it makes it increasingly difficult to choose. So PLEASE scroll through. I started my evening with a glass of quite frankly the best rosé I have ever had (Rose of Pinot Noir, Joseph Jewell) with the delightful steak tartare that almost had a lemony flavor that was quite springy and amazing and my friend got the always classic French onion soup which is always divine as I had to of course steak a spoonful of. For mains we got the mussel, pommes frittes (the garlic aioli omg), truffle risotto, and burger. You of course cannot go and not get the soufflé no matter how stuffed you are. Overall, I have been recommending this place to my friend for 4 years and was worried it wouldn't love up to the hype I made it after the pandemic, however, I ever so quickly remember why it is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. Everything is divine.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I ate here for a birthday dinner. We ordered drinks, appetizer, dinners, and dessert. The cocktails were strong and looked pretty. For an appetizer, we ordered the steak tartare which we had never had before. Despite my reservations on eating raw meat, it was a nice texture with shredded cheese on top which you spread on crusty bread. We ordered the truffle risotto and the bass for our meals. The truffle risotto was very creamy with a strong truffle flavor. The bass was very tender and had interesting sauces on top. The bass portion was a little small. For dessert we ordered the grand marnier soufflé which takes extra time to be prepared. It came with ice cream, strawberries, and a sauce to drizzle on top. It looked so good, we forgot the picture. We aren't dessert people, but I recommend this dessert. The wait staff was also very attentive! Overall we had a great experience!

Yelp
I visited Poulet Bleu for dinner at 5:15pm on a Friday. I know, that's early but that was the best time with 6 weeks notice. They did have ample bar seating at that time with no reservation required. The restaurant I was an upscale, trendy version of your typical Parisian bistro. By that the menu is simple like anywhere you can grab a nice meal in Paris with a more simplified menu with an emphasis on quality. And of course the service was much more American than Parisian which is appreciated stateside. Instead of ordering a main course the wire and I ordered a plethora of apps like beef tartare, escargot, a meat and cheese tray, and French onion soup. Everything well executed . The escargot was top notch. Poulet Blue was a nice, niche restaurant that helps raise Pittsburgh's culinary reputation. It was an enjoyable dinner.
