More affordable then most places.Best cheese danish I’ve had. You know you have a dough master when even the more simple ingredients are perfectly balanced. Passionate about their products staff which is lovely and infectious.

Hole in the wall store front. First visit and regret not stopping here many times before - definitely some of the best food in SD - the seeded baguette was really good - the walnut scone was better (not as hard) at the Carlsbad store (back to back visits).

I love a delicious seeded baguette! As I write this I am eating the last of my bread from 2 days ago, lightly toasted and it holds up. The whole wheat flatbread is surprisingly light, I imagined all of these dips and toppings and somehow wound up eating it plain. Right? Some pictures of the insides are included, beautiful bread!

So fresh and delicious. Stopped here in the way to Scotty Cameron shop got an almond croissant and a bagels. The croissant was light and its not overly sweet. Highly recommend and I will comeback again

I've been coming to the Encinitas location since it opened for my weekly loaf of bread and occasional lunchtime sandwich. I live 1 mile away, and work 1 block away. They used to be delicious, filling a void of good sandwiches in downtown Encinitas. A few months ago I ordered the Caprese, and it was mediocre, at best, but I figured they had an off day. Today I ordered a long time favorite, Spicy Italian. Every component was gross. The bread was stale, the red pepper/tahini spread was fully soaked into the stale bread, the salami tasted old (sour taste), the lettuce was totally brown. It was disgusting, and inedible. I know what this sandwich used to taste like, and at one time it was delicious. Not only has the price gone up, the quality is terrible. Stick to the loafs of bread and skip the soggy, stale, old sandwiches. It's too bad.

I can’t give a really good review of this place however I did sample the three bean chili and fresh dipping bread and it was really good. They do have prepared sandwiches but you cannot get made to order sandwiches here. The sandwiches I saw on display looked really good.

I ride my bike here almost every week and get a loaf of bread for the weekend along with a few pastries, I like their goods and come back because normally it’s a pleasant experience. Today I went in for a loaf of bread, 3 pastries, and a coffee. When I went to pay I asked if they’d fill my water bottle with tap water, the employee checking me out refused because “they only have tap water and couldn’t give it out”, I said I don’t mind and that they normally fill me up every week, they continued to refuse. I paid them left calmly, yet it didn’t sit right with me. I thought to myself “don’t they use water for their pastries”, “what water does the drip coffee use”. I then stopped at a nearby park to fill up my bottle at a water fountain and remembered that in california a restaurant or cafe can’t refuse to give a customer tap water, and am writing this review after confirming this after a quick google. I still like this place even thought this particular employee made a mistake (this is why I give 2 stars instead of 1), but I hope in writing this review this issue can be resolved. It’s left a bad feeling for me and I hope I can get over it, with so many options in the area, we’ll have to see if I decide to come back next week or chose somewhere else.

I love going to Prager Bros to get pastries! They are located in a busy area in Encinitas so parking can be difficult. There is no seating at the bakery. We got there at around 8:15 am on a Friday and the bakery case was not fully stocked. We were hoping to get a ham & cheese croissant but we were told those come from the Carlsbad store and are usually in Encinitas 30-45 minutes after opening. The woman behind the counter says they sell out quickly so you can order them ahead and they will set them aside for you. We got a croissant breakfast sandwich with egg, onion jam, and some greens. It was really tasty because the egg had some mushrooms mixed in. I would highly recommend the breakfast sandwich. Since the bakery case wasn't totally full, we didn't get to try any of the seasonal items but we got a chocolate croissant and almond croissant. Both were delicious! Definitely worth a stop for some baked goods.

The products are the best. The sourdough rye with sunflower seeds is beautiful. I have made this bread at home and it is famously difficult. On my recent visit I also got a great almond croissant and a pain au raisin . I've had other breads and pastries and they are always top shelf. There is only bread, no coffee. Notes: there are two other locations in Carlsbad and Hillcrest. For this location walk North to the corner and there is a coffee shop kitty-corner. In Carlsbad it is next door. Parking here not great.

Both of my kiddos visited over the Thanksgiving holiday and my wife and I were blessed to spend quality time with them. One of them left Saturday and the other one wanted to eat breakfast Sunday morning. Wifey suggested a bakery, so we focused on finding a bakery in Encinitas since we wanted to take our kiddo to another establishment that has some of the best cookies in San Diego, which I'll talk about in another review. We decided on Prager Brothers Artisan Bread, which was a tasty bakery to start our day. There are several Prager Brothers locations throughout San Diego. We visited their Encinitas location, which was me and my kiddo's first visit, but the wifey had visited this location with some of her close friends. The bakery is located in the heart of a charming row of shops and restaurants, specifically on South Coast Highway 101 and in between D and E streets. If you're familiar with where the Encinitas arch sign is, then you're a few steps away from Prager Brothers. It is next to Encinitas Cafe, next to Bliss 101, and across the street from The 101 Diner. There is free parking on either side of the main throughfare. As you enter the shop, you are immediately greeted by a glass case of bread, baked goodies, and sandwiches. They are known for their bread, which you'll see their bread selection on their shelves. There is no seating inside, but there are uncovered table and chairs outside. Inside the shop, they sell bagged product and other baked items. The young man behind the counter was friendly and answered our questions. The display case of baked goods and sandwiches were filled to capacity and were very enticing. The breads on the shelves were hearty and inviting. As I perused their offering, I gravitated to their one and only jalapeño cheddar bagel and I also ordered a Bavarian pretzel. The young man asked if I wanted my bagel toasted and if I wanted cream cheese. I highly recommend that you toast your bagel and have the employees spread the cream cheese on the bagel. That jalapeño cheddar bagel was toasted just right, it was savory, and coupled with the cream cheese, my family and I enjoyed each satisfying bite. One of our close friends who regularly visits Prager Brothers told us that one of her favorite breads is their seeded baguettes. When we got home, we toasted the seeded baguette and she was spot on about that bread. It paired really well with cheese and salami. The Bavarian pretzel was not fresh and a little hard, but I enjoyed the taste. If you want mustard, you have to pay 50 cents and it seemed to be homemade, but it was just okay. We loved spending quality time with our kids during the holiday. Being able to spend more time with one of our kiddos enjoying some tasty baked goods from Prager Brothers made for a great start to our Sunday.

Came and got a loaf and a few croissants. I originally wanted the Olive rosemary sourdough loaf, but they said they couldn't slice it because some people are allergic to olives so I went with the multi-grain sourdough so I could get it sliced. The bread was fresh and had a nice crust. The croissant was light and flakey and buttery and the inside fluffy and airy. Service was nice and quick, they also make soups and sandwiches which I didn't try. Its a small shop that puts out a good product. The bread is fresh and nicely done. Service is friendly and helpful. Parking is all on the street. Another go to artisan bread place.

Popped in for a morning pastry fix. Service was quick. I recommend their butter croissant. Simple yet full of flavor and tasty flaky layers. And at a decent price. On the flip side, the blueberry scone didn't do it for me.

This grab-and-go bakery offers fresh sandwiches and baguettes, perfect for those short on time and in need of a healthy, nutritious bite. All the sandwiches are premade, so modifications or toasting aren't available, but the convenience and quick service make up for it. I tried two sandwiches: the Veggie Chickpea and the Turkey Chimichurri. The Veggie Chickpea sandwich, served on wheat bread, featured layers of hummus, carrots, and arugula. It had a clean taste without any heavy ingredients. However, the Turkey Chimichurri sandwich was the standout for me. The focaccia bread, with its Parmesan crust and assorted seeds like pumpkin, provided delightful texture. The chimichurri inside could have used a bit more salt to enhance the flavor, but overall, it was delicious. While there's no indoor seating, a small table is available outside. Personally, I found the sandwiches easy to eat while walking around the area, adding to their convenience.

Was in the area and wanted to grab lunch to take to the beach. Small shop and pretty busy, but the staff was so friendly! Got a spicy italian sandwich and chocolate croissant. Sandwich was so good, the bread was delicious. We were able to share the sandwich among two people. The croissant was average, the chocolate was cold so it felt like a chocolate bar. Would definitely visit again.

The morning buns from this place are out of this world delicious! Staff are super friendly. It's a small spot but clean. 2 small tables outside that you can sit at if you like. Great bakery with multiple locations. They are also at farmers markets, which is where we initially found them. This will be our new go to bakery stop when we're in the area for sure!

Okay, I wanted to love this. I really did. I've tried some breads and pastries from other Prager Brother locations before, but this was my first time at the Encinitas store. I have to say I was seriously underwhelmed and disappointed. I got a pretzel, which looked beautiful and shiny, but was stale and extremely hard. For the price, I have to say I was expecting more. I don't know if it was because it was an old batch or left out too long, but I couldn't even finish it. I know that PB can definitely make good pastries and breads, so I was really disappointed. The store itself is very small, so I think it's more of a grab-and-go kind of establishment. Although there is sometimes a line, the service is fairly quick because everything is already made. I think that, despite my experience, I might go back to give PB another chance. Maybe it was just an off day!

Fantastic baked goods of course but also friendly uncomplicated help. Great place--Encinitas is lucky to have them

Hi Prager's, please update your online hours (website and yelp) for New Year's Eve Day. I saw many people stop by your store with no clue that you were closed. It's common courtesy for the public; someone said they from drove out of town expecting your business to be open because your hours said so.

Actually the best French baguette I have ever had. Actually. Found it on a stroll to Encinitas and bought a side of butter with it. Was kinda mad I had to buy a side of butter but after I had my first bite, my annoyance disappeared instantly. To be fair, the almond croissant wasn't my favorite but let me repeat how chewy and soft the baguette was. Go get it! Side note, I was lamenting how far it is from me until I came to yelp to post and found out there is one in hillcrest!!!

Pretty underwhelming. I usually like this brand when buying their bread at grocery stores but at this store this was the second time I got disappointed. The baguettes are very bland with not crustiness in them. The pastries are not well made and have not much flavor for their price. The store is cute and service is always nice and attentive. Pretty facade that adds cool factor to downtown Encinitas but that is it for me.

Great premade sandwiches. The veggie, Italian combo, and ham and cheese were all really good. The bread for each sandwich was perfect and held up well.

So this is a shhhhhkeep quiet about how great the pecan pie is!! I cook, I bake, I travel, but let me tell you how spectacular this pie is!! The crust is thin and crisp and freckled with sugar... the pecans , and they are the staring act, are so fresh and toasted to perfection... the glorious glue that holds it all together is NOT, your old school corn syrup filling!!! So ... go... buy 2 or more for your holiday party!!! But leave some for me

This delicious artisan bread restaurant makes several varieties of bread, cookies, pastries, sandwiches and granola. I love the almond croissants which are made of thin layers of decadent pastry engulfing marzipan, topped with thin slices of almond, powdered sugar and perfectly browned. The flat breads that I order have never made it home intact, I have a hard time stopping myself from devouring the entire loaf immediately. My favorite is olive and Parmesan, but the pepita flavor is a close second. Let's not forget the lovely baguettes, round loaves and specialty flavors offered, which are all exceptional.

Just change the hours to 8 am. Was standing outside at 7:29 and guy inside tapes up a sign at eye level so he blocks me from sight that says, Will open at 8 am due to production delays. This sign is now taped up more often than not. Great baked goods. Get the logistics under control or change the hours.

We found this place at a farmers market. I got a blueberry scone and a morning bun (I think that's what they were called) they were so delicious I went back for more but the market just closed. So we looked online and saw they had a store. Was so happy they did and it was on the way home. We stopped and got 4 more morning buns and some cookies for our trip back to Arizona. They were really good! If you're in southern California you got to give them a try!

Love their bread! My husband and I also love their premade sandwiches. Ham and cheese and turkey arugula are on our heavy rotation.

This place is the real deal. Delicious homemade baked breads, croissants, a few ready made breakfast sandwiches , etc. Highly recommend the Almond pastry and chocolate croissant. We went multiple times while in the area and the breads we had were all great and of high quality. More of a "stop in and head out" spot but they do have a small area you could eat quickly. Like any good bakeries they sell out on many items so get there on earlier side even on weekdays.

Food: 5/5 Everything I've gotten from here is amazing. Super fresh and just yummy. All locations are consistent with the quality. Service: 2/5 The Encinitas location used to have such an inviting atmosphere. The staff was always pleasant and wanted to chat about your day or all things bread related. I always had a great experience. However recently, it's taken a turn for the worse. The associate that helped me yesterday (March 5th, young female, brown hair, glasses. About 10am) was down right rude. To the point myself and the person I was with were uncomfortable as we walked out. It was triggered due to a simple question I asked her and she got nasty with her response. It's unnecessary, you're selling bread. Management: Take some time at this location. You have such a special product and this location used to be so welcoming. I hope you get back there.

This storefront is relatively tiny, but its small walls hold tons of delicious creations. Came in for the sandwiches, Turkey Chimichurri, and the Veggie. My husband said, "I haven't had many sandwiches where my favourite part of it is the bread!" The veggie sandwich was so fun, something like I've never had before, the "chickpea salad" was tangy and delicious. I thought I wouldn't be full from the sandwich, but it was the perfect portion. I also took a bagel and a chocolate croissant for the morning. Both warmed up nicely the next day. I'll be back for a quick bite, and I cannot wait to try their pizzas.

this review is ONLY FOR THE BAGELS AT PRAGER BROTHERS. I LOVE their bread and pastries so i wanted to try their bagels as quality is something they shine in. This is THE WORST BAGEL IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. This bagel tastes like the ones that used to be sold in my high school cafeteria. They were also $8.50 which is a hefty price to pay on bagels let alone bagels that taste like cardboard do yourself a favor and don't make the mistake i did

We've been here three days in a row now. Almond croissant, blueberry scone, morning bun, palmier -- all really good. Cool shop and friendly service. Easy walking distance to the beach too.

We just had an almond croissant and a ham and cheese croissant and both were delicious. On our way in, a woman said it was the best bakery in town and she didn't lie.

Not from Encinitas so I did a look up for the best sandwiches and it said that this place was the place to go did not go here for sandwiches. They have four premade sandwiches. You cannot special order anything and you have to like one of the four premade sandwiches this is not a sandwich shop. He's only park in the back and walk around the entire building when I'm not supposed to be out in the sun only to find out that they don't have sandwiches except they're for sandwiches to their taste and you cannot get them specially made example. Your turkey has chimichurri sauce on it if you want don't want that on there you can't make that change there ham sandwich it only has mustard on it you don't want mustard on it tough. They only make the sandwiches the way they like them.

The storefront is tiny but don't be fooled by the size. We drive here every weekend to pick up their sourdough bread - the bread is just perfect. I have also tried their pizza crusts and. Their veggie sandwiches and never been disappointed. My husband claims that their ham and cheese sandwich is perfection. Their service is always fantastic and their prices are reasonable. Parking is available at the back of this strip mall. Never had an issue as I know parking on 101 can be challenging,

Nice addition to Encinitas, serving traditional breads in a new style. Great sandwich's, good pastry (minus the snickerdoodle), and fresh bread. My favorite was their cardamom twist! A must try if you like cardamom.

Smaller bakery but they make delicious bread! They have a variety of pastries, bread and sandwiches. We tried their veggie and Italian sandwich. They make their sandwiches fresh throughout the day! We thought they had run out of the veggie sandwich but they said they were making more in the back. Also loved the prices! The sandwiches were large and only cost ~$7. The veggie sandwich had some kind of rosemary bread with chickpea salad, apples, carrot ginger slaw, tahini vinaigrette and arugula. Definitely a lighter sandwich which I liked. The apples brought a nice crunch and sweetness and the tahini tied it all together. The bread is definitely the star though! Really soft and pillowy with just the right amount of chew. The Italian has salami, provolone, pickled onion, Romesco and arugula. The romesco was awesome and really put the sandwich over the top.

The bread is incredible however, I didn't realize that ordering an $8 half sandwich was going to result in them giving me one slice of turkey are you kidding me????? 1 thin slice . Please see photo. Again, let me repeat. The bread is a 10 out of 10 but very disappointing ordering a sandwich with one slice of turkey please see the photo. If you go in and buy bread, no problem I wouldn't waste my money on a sandwich that has a total rip off !!!! that's not a sandwich ripping your customers off with one slice of turkey. ‍

I found it incredibly disrespectful that the counter lady decided to ask everyone after me their form of payment and proceeded to take their payment while I had to wait for the party in front of me in order to pay. I'm also saddened to see that they increased the veggie sandwich by $3! As much as I loved these sandwiches....between the service I just received and the ridiculous price increase I will most likely be going elsewhere.

Essentially, the only place in San Diego to get a proper German pretzel. In Europe, bread isn't just food, it's something closer to soulful sustenance. True to form, this European-style bakery stocks every kind of homebaked bread, in addition to sinfully-delicious croissants and the best pretzels I've found in the area (ask for their homemade mustard!) Overall, an excellent stop on the way to the beach or a friend's spot for Sunday brunch.

Ham and cheese sandwich although thin (quality meat n cheese) the bread is what makes it. Friendly guy taking order. Danish delicious as well as breads. Can't go wrong.

Yummy!!! I just came back from Europe and was craving pretzels and pastries. I couldn't be more satisfied!

I love the friendly and always smiling staff! The crew is at all times happy to explain the different kind of breads. Ciabatta with sea salt and herbs is my fave.... The more "adventurous" selection is displayed up from the the traditional loafs are behind the cashier. Constantly fresh, inviting and alluring selection of breads! Come on in and nurture your cravings for carbs ;)

Love Prager brothers bread and their flatbreads are wonderful. I love their olive bread but keep forgetting what days as it is not available daily. Their sandwiches are great too. I love the shortbread cookies but wish they would leave off the salt. It really detracts from a great shortbread. I always have to rub it off. Or just offer salted AND unsalted.

Great bake shop with a truly inviting selection of sandwiches and baked goods. Picked up a croissant and a danish for tomorrow's breakfast and a French baguette for dinner. My wife insisted we buy the signature tote

Bread was incredible! We shared a pretzel and it was flavorful and the perfect mix of soft and chewy! I didn't particularly think the girl behind the counter was friendly or helpful. We asked her what her favorite was, and if she had suggestions for bread for a certain meal and she gave a very lackluster and mediocre answer. Honestly, I can't remember if we got a French bread or something else because when she bagged the item she didn't say anything, she pointed to the shelf and pulled a loaf down. That being said the bread was really great! They sliced it in store and we used for garlic bread and I took some back with me to Arizona for sandwiches! Worth the stop in!

Bread with attitude. I consider myself a fair-minded and loyal customer. The bread is good, and I have been coming to this bakery before they had multiple locations and grew to the size they are today. I was treated very poorly at the Encinitas store this morning. Unimpressed by the lack of customer care, I will most likely not return here and will find a new place to buy bread.

I had an incredible sandwich here. The bread had seeds in it and tasted like no other bread. I've had there croissant as well which I liked. The store is very clean and minimalistic with great service. I will come back to try a loaf in the future.

What a yummy place! The sandwiches are awesome. Just thinking about the Ham & Gruyere and Turkey Chimichurri is making my mouth water! It was the perfect amount of smoked ham, cheese and mustard in the Ham & Gruyere and the house-made chimichurri was spot on for the Turkey Chimichurri. The pistachio honey semolina cake tasted sooo good! I loved the texture and it was not overly sweet. The chocolate croissant was very flaky but I did wish it had a tad bit more chocolate in it. We also got a loaf of the sesame sourdough which was moist and definitely not too dry. Can't wait to cut up slices of it and make more sandwiches! We initially went for the Almond Croissant but that was sold out. Oh well, it gives me more than one reason to go back and try their other delicious items!

Great bread, and delicious sandwiches. They have a schedule showing which days they make certain breads. Olive bread is made on Wednesday and Saturday.

Prager Brothers has always been committed to providing a terrific product, so it was no surprise to me on the great pastries I had during my visit to this new location. I picked up several on my morning visit: butter croissants, morning buns, and almonds croissant all reasonably priced. All the pastries were terrific. The butter croissant was butter and flaky, just right for a warm cup of coffee. The almond croissant came with not only thinly sliced almonds a top, but a terrific almond paste inside. The morning bun offered a soft texture full of a a great cinnamon flavor. In addition to pastries, they bake baguettes, loaves, cookies, and scones! Those beautiful scones! The staff members were all very nice and welcoming. Here's a tip, "the early bird gets the worm." So, get there early if you want all the good stuff!
