if you are colour blind, you will love their current chapter of monochrome themed experience.
even if you are not, you will learn to appreciate how beautiful things can look, taste in different shades of black and white.
a last minute, credit card only, booking online for dinner brought us back to frasers tower where we just had lunch at relish!
a step through the glass door and you are greeted by their staff in haute couture black and white, with a centrepiece cement, work of art, bench begging you to lay your ass down.
a right turn leads you to the bar and lounge area.
but turn left and a stylishly inviting, comfy dining room awaits you behind the reception manned by knowledgable and friendly staff.
complimentary still or sparkling?
say what?
unheard of, mostly, until now!
thank you for that and let others kindly follow suit........
interaction included education, an amazing array of interesting produce that you may not have heard of or seen before.
the simple monochrome recurring theme extends to their unique artistic origami display(available for sale), wine list and food presentation.
this is where the initial less than vivid look gives way to what's underneath, a burst of flavours and a play on textures that injects life to the monochrome looking dishes and keeps your taste buds dancing.
the first two dishes elude and allude, looks deceptively the same.
but once you break through the surface and introduce your weapon of discerning taste, you realize looks doesn't matter no more!
the last of autumn's produce, two from the artichoke family combined with a pickled lampascioni bulb, leaves a lasting memory and signals the arrival of winter's produce.
if you never liked vinegar, a visit here for their la cortina dish might well convert you!
il borgo traditional balsamic vinegar, aged 25 years, that is.
a gentle whiff will do the trick, the strength of it's bold acidic character will wow you.
when married with a homely butter squash & amaretto agnolotti, parmesan sauce and almond snow, will have you licking off that silver spoon.
this vinegar will transform any average lor mee or bak chor mee into michelin worthy dishes!
and yes, a dessert featuring this timeless classic will grace their menu soon.
the 8 course dinner gets you an additional fish and dessert course.
being my first time here, i opted for the 8.
the patagonian toothfish carried the monochrome theme well but may get a pass from me on my next visit.
the iberico pork shoulder, my favourite variety and cut, was however a little overpowered by cayenne but saved by delicately charred piennolo tomatoes.
the pre dessert and palate cleanser was well accomplished with a single scoop of pisco sour foam.
just enough to revive your buds but not overwhelm or choke you.
the two desserts made me not regret choosing the 8 over the 6.
nothing overly sweet but a good balance with savoury notes that i loved.
petit four will follow like night follows day.
just like the ever consistent monochrome theme, a brave choice well executed!
the fine dining scene suffered the departure of my two favourites in 2018 but the arrival of preludio brings hope of new gastronomical heights in 2019!
