Where to Find West African Suya in London | Eater London

"A decent half way house on the Old Kent Road that compromises between quality of/time taken waiting for suya. At the takeaway section next to the restaurant, generous portions of beef, lamb, chicken; or gizzard, kidney, shaki (tripe) are ready made then heated up again and seasoned for taste. The spiciest level here is not actually that spicy, but pushes all the buttons, and best of all comes in layers and layers of fish and chip like wrapping that means it can be eaten with greasy fingers all the way down to Burgess Park." - Jonathan Nunn

Good African relaxation restaurant, good food, good service. I had a fantastic dining experience at this restaurant! The service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and amazing flavours in every bite. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a great meal. Highly recommend!

From the moment guests arrived, they were greeted with warm welcomes and a genuine sense of hospitality that set the tone for the evening. The atmosphere was enchanting, filled with elegant decor, gentle music, and the delightful aroma of exquisite cuisine wafting through the air. Every staff member was attentive and professional, ensuring that each attendee felt valued and well cared for, making the experience not just enjoyable but unforgettable.

I had my birthday celebration days ago and the atmosphere was electrifying. Great setting, very tasty food, great music and it was super lovely. Guys you are missing a lot and presidential is the place to be.

Very good family friendly Nigerian restaurant, well maintained, clean and great atmosphere. My kids love this restaurant, I was privileged to meet the owner on Sunday with my son and daughter, I told him how good he keeps his restaurant and how good and delicious the food is. I rate this restaurant and recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed family oriented Nigerian restaurant

Google
Terrible, rude service. They couldn't be "bothered" to handle my query so they just hung up the phone. Immediately cancelled my order and took my money elsewhere to a more deserving business. Will not be recommending.

Nice tasty meals, I had jollof, and stewed beef for £14.75 and it tasted so good.A Very lovely and friendly staff attended to me. Quantity of food was also great. However, they need to improve on waiting times. I waited alotttttttt!

Google
Food was nice I got beef Suya, jollof and asked for some stew sauce, came with plantain, onions and tomatoes- decent size portion. The shop could do with a spruce up, need to invest in it make it more inviting for customers. A lot of these places have nice food but the look of the shops can be off putting.

It would be great and lovely if the time use for waiting for the food can reduce please

Yelp
This place is amazing. Fresh and tasty I was in London for 2 days and went there back to back . The space is also super clean so that too was attractive to me. I especially like how fresh the food tastes. It feels like they make every order from scratch. As opposed to some others that heat up from the refrigerator.

Yelp
Suya, booyah suckas! As the kind old Nigerian lady behind the counter explained to me, "It's like Kebab, but with Spice." That's a good description. Suya is chargrilled meat, and at Presidential Suya they have meat from many of our furry friends, from beef to chicken to KIDNEY. I didn't try the kidney. Nevery having had suya, I just asked, "What should I get?" Everyone, from the mom and daughter working behind the counter to the rotund hanger-about, suggested beef. So beef I got. After heating it up in the microwave, the daughter patiently explained to me that suya is spicy (as she poured more spice powder onto my meat) and should be eaten with onions and tomatoes. Except, all they had were onions. She cut those up and wrapped my meal in some paper and I took it away. I really liked it. It's barbecue beef, a little thick, and very tender. Plus, it's super spicy but a kind of spice i'm not used to. I gave only three stars because of the lack of tomatoes and the price (£4 for a hand-size piece of meat). The people there are wonderful.

Yelp
Fairly decent, large portions but after waiting for almost 45 mins, one would think the food would be hot when brought to the table but you'd be wrong. This is by no means "Mom's cooking" but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this restaurant. The waitress was terrible and acted like she couldn't care less. The soda was also flat which is unacceptable.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place but didn't at all. Ordered take away and the only thing we liked were the meat and chicken pies. Jollof rice, no ...beef Suya, no ...kidney Suya, no ...fried yam and stew, also no! The food was really tasteless and was really upsetting ...won't be going back.

Yelp
I used to go here years ago and it was never cheap, but was just above average and the portions were good. But I went here tonight with 3 friends, really wanting them to enjoy it as much as I used to and I realised that it was well below average quality and portion size with well above average pricing. Jollof was weak and bland, even by nigerian standards, no where close to the quality i expect, though I have been eating ghanian and gambian jollof recently so perhaps my expectations were raised unrealistically. Service was dour and surly, portions were ridiculously small, and drinks were served warm. I was actually in shock. Its obvious that Presidential are being typically nigerian in that they are hoping to create a 'classy expensive venue' with small portions and inflated prices, but they forget that the quality has to be there, and its in the wrong postcode for such a venture. I definitely wont be going back there ever again, nor will any of my friends or colleagues once they hear my opinion. Shame, used to be a good eaterie, now avoid at all costs. PS, beef was appalling. tasted like bushmeat.

Yelp
Overpriced for the quality and a bit tight on the meat-to-rice ratio, but it filled a hole after a boozy night.

Yelp
Having grown up in the north of Nigeria where, as any bonafide Naija will tell you, the hausas make the best suya, presidential is a pretty poor example of it. Been there once and gave most of it away I was so disappointed. Same for Obalende. To be honest the only place that sells decent suya is a place called the Mixed Grill in Grays (25 Orsett Road). As for other Nigerian food, I heart Taris especially for their meat pepper soup and afang soup, and Tasty's always a good bet in Woolwich. Labos restaurant in Greenwich does a good vegetable soup. If anyone has suggestions for restaurants I can try pls give feedback.
