The Best Restaurants and Bars in Palo Alto | Eater SF

"No matter the weather, rooftop bar President’s Terrace is here to accommodate. Summers may see refreshing drinks like the Nutty Professor, a mai tai riff incorporating pistachio orgeat and pistachio foam, on a rooftop. The same goes for the winter, where visitors can sip hot drinks such as the Cocoa Caliente, a mix of mezcal, chocolate, genepy, and house-made marshmallows." - Becky Duffett

Made a reservation for 6 people. After we were seated we were advised of a 90 minute limit. 15 minutes before the 90 minute mark they asked us to leave so they could prepare the table. We received the check and asked if the tip was included. We were told no. After leaving a 20% tip for mediocre service we saw on the bill a Large Party <= 15 (20.00%). Not clear if this is a typo or it allows the Presidents Terrace to add a surcharge for parties of 1-15 people. Poor customer experience.

Google
We were going to Lou & Herbert's for lunch, and I was talking to the guy at the front desk of the Graduate. The Presidents Terrace wasn't open, but he told me that I could go up and look around which I did. The rooftop Terrace looks really good. There's a bar, fireplace and several places to sit. The views from the Terrace are wonderful. We'll be back when they're open!

We decided to make a pit stop at the President's Terrace for a couple of cocktails and light appetizers before our main dinner at Nobu. We were looking forward to a pleasant afternoon on the rooftop bar. Upon our arrival, we found that the staff seemed tired, likely from a busy happy hour rush. I can't rave about the cocktails or food, as we only tried a couple of dishes, but the view, ambiance, and decor were undeniably appealing. We're definitely considering returning when the weather is more favorable. Overall, the President's Terrace is an excellent spot for unwinding with friends or colleagues after work. It doesn’t seem to accommodate large parties with limited seating. It's also festive and charming, making it a great choice for a fun date as well.

Google
Stopped by here last Wed for some drinks after dinner right around sunset. The rooftop area is fairly small and the fireplace makes it cozy with seats around it. We sat at the bar for better view of the Palo Alto sky. The bartender was very knowledgable on the menu as well. I plan to come back for Desert and the Views.

Google
Spectacular experience! It was my mom’s birthday and we were walking around to digest our dinner and stumbled upon this quaint and artistic hotel. We found out they had this roof top bar and so we had to check it out to continue her birthday celebration… We went up and was surprised by the nice views and ambiance! Rooftop bar in PA? That’s a first for us! It happened to be very windy so the hostess instantly offered us some blankets to keep warm. I heard there are heaters coming soon, but the weather should be perfect in the months to come. Bartenders were phenomenal and the drinks are so unique! The drink tastes just like a Thai iced tea, IMO… and I don’t usually drink brandy! She even got a “Happy Birthday” sung in French! She felt like a superstar!!! Thank you so much for making her feel so special! The lobby and bar downstairs was also top of the line! I highly recommend it!!! I will definitely be coming back with some friends! The whole staff was outstanding! 10/5!

Google
22 years of living in Palo Alto and thinking how amazing a rooftop bar would be, and alas, we FINALLY have one. The fact is people would go here even if it was terrible, but they did an absolutely phenomenal job. Drinks were amazing - great wine by the glass list and some fabulous cocktails. Excellent bartenders and great service all around. Food was incredible, raw bar/light bites with great flavor, fantastic chef. And obviously, the views and the setting are just unbeatable. The President’s Terrace absolutely knocks it out of the park and is sure to become a true Palo Alto institution. I can’t wait to come back!

Google
Fun, rooftop bar atop the Graduate Hotel in downtown Palo Alto. Nice atmosphere, basically a bar with a limited but good menu. Seared ahi and seafood tower are good. No cash bar.

Google
Beautiful rooftop in Palo Alto with a great atmosphere, nice drinks, and decent food. Unfortunately, the service this time was a major letdown. The manager’s attitude was extremely poor, which ruined the experience. After years of coming here, I’m disappointed to say I won’t be returning.

Yelp
i've been here twice now after work. the location and views are definitely nice. the food portions are relatively small and definitely meant for smaller parties. the pricing is definitely for the overall ambiance. the food rotates here and there so there were different options this time around. the chocolate mousse was really good and had a nice crunch. the hummus was also good but not anything that you couldn't make at home. the edamame and charcuterie were good. the drinks have been alright both times i've gone. nothing that really sticks out about them but they do have some fun seasonal ones!

Yelp
The only good thing about this place is the view. There I said it. Here's the list: 1) The staff was rude to my friend who got there a tad early at 3:56pm (they open at 4pm) and was told to go to the lobby to wait, as were the folks behind her. (I mean really, you can't seat people a few minutes early or let them wait in the wings?) 2) The server asked for our ID (WTH? We are clearly grown-ass women way beyond ID age) 3) The food was mediocre, at best, and overpriced. The hamachi tasted like Japanese fast food quality, and there was nothing flat about the flatbread, it was stuffed onto a thick crust pizza 4) Our crap champagne had a pop top and was served in dirty, chipped plastic cups. We clearly noticed it in front of the server but she had no interest in swapping to something better (maybe there's not anything better?). 5) We were warned that we had 30 minutes to leave from our 90 minute limit even though half the place was empty (and empty when we did leave happily 30 minutes later) 6) We got overcharged on the bill and will be contacting the manager on this Beautiful place, poor customer service and experience. Go up there for a looksie and then have a more enjoyable evening somewhere else, like we did

Yelp
Food is mediocre, but okay. Slow service. Service lady was awesome, she tried to serve full floor, so couldn't attend everyone soon enough. Other service man (not a gentleman), was there to show his managerial attitude towards the lady and he himself not doing any work. Anyway, the hotel and the terrace is dog friendly, we had our small dachshund mix with us too. There were few other dogs too, all good. A guest/customer lady came petting our dog, it was sudden, so our dog got little scared and barked at her, she was all good too; she said sorry and left. Now this so called non gentleman server came shouting at us, "you will be removed from this restaurant if your dog barks again"... our poor scared dog, and we remained silent for our rest of the evening there, silently eating our food. We would request the management to remove this server from the terrace to make it an enjoyable place, so that we can visit again.

Yelp
Our server was lovely! She was a nice gal i didn't get her name. Hispanic lady very friendly and sweet. The view and the space itself were beautiful. A little windy but it's ok. The food was pretty good but overpriced. All of the furniture and plastic glassware were cheap.

Yelp
President's Terrace had been on my radar since it opened, but I wasn't rushing to go due to the mixed reviews. We were in the area and decided to check it out on a Wednesday (early) evening. The entrance was located through the Graduate hotel, which had a gorgeous lobby. The rooftop itself had nice decor too, especially the bar - I loved the big golden lighting fixtures. The ambiance was nice, and they had seating in both the sun and shade. For drinks, my friend and I got the two mocktails, which I can't find the names of now. They were like $15 and totally not worth the price - so much ice in the glass and the taste was nothing special. Would skip these in the future! For food, we shared the Warm Crab Ricotta Dip and Oysters ala Graduate. These were both very good for small, shareable bites. Service was friendly and pretty quick. Overall, a little overpriced but still a good vibe!

Yelp
I recently visited a rooftop venue that promised a great atmosphere but ultimately fell short in several areas. I ordered a drink that cost me a staggering $28, and I must say, it was not worth the price for some olive juice and tequila! Food was mediocre, nothing special. Oysters looked suspicious so I did not finish them. Now the service, our server had a noticeable attitude, which made the entire visit uncomfortable. She seemed uptight and unfriendly, rarely cracking a smile or engaging with us in a pleasant manner. I left feeling dissatisfied and unlikely to return. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a more enjoyable experience, as this venue does not live up to its potential.

Yelp
Came here on Valentine's Day for a drink and a quick nibble before dinner. We really enjoyed it! Had a reservation so we were seated quickly. The staff were very nice, and since it was pretty chilly they offered us blankets which helped a lot. They do have heaters but unless you're right next to them you don't really feel the effects of them. The food menu is pretty limited but we knew that going in. Definitely a spot to just have a drink and enjoy the view. We had the mixed nuts and marinated olives. We saw a charcuterie board go by that looked fantastic! The drinks we had were both really delicious. I had the Valentine's Day special drink which was kind of like a Cosmo but with peach in it, but very yummy. My boyfriend had a spiced pear drink that was great, really well balanced flavors. I think this will be a really great spot in the summer when it's not so cold, but I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I was thrilled when this rooftop was announced and patiently waited for it to open. Rain caused me to miss my first two attempts to visit. Made a reservation but it didn't seem to matter on a chilly January night. Ordered oysters and non alcoholic drinks for dry January. The view is nice but the service is poor. Perhaps a summer day would be different, but there are plenty of other options to try in the area that I never found my way back again. The prices, ambiance, and service weren't worth the hype. FYI they have different drinks (and food) upstairs from downstairs (the restaurant inside the graduate hotel).

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a rooftop bar date and this location was surprisingly lovely. I wouldn't except downtown Palo Alto to have a rooftop bar but the views of the sunset and clouds over the mountains in the distance was beautiful. The menu is small but they still have a big non-alcoholic cocktail menu. I forgot the name of my drink but it was bubbly and citrusy. They didn't have the Ingredients for the drink listed that night so it was a blood orange twist but still pretty good. There is also a small food menu so I ordered some olives to snack on (always a classic) and tried the coconut rice pudding which was ok... there wasn't a lot of flavor but it was an alright snack to balance the salty olives. The ambiance of the place is absolutely lovely and they give you wool blankets to borrow as it gets chilly... this is a perfect place for a date !
google avatar

Ashley Y.

Yelp
Enter President's Terrace through the Graduate hotel for the rooftop and the views were so beautiful at sunset. A little chilly since outside, but blankets and heaters were provided. Overall, the Cruel Summer cocktail was fine, definitely a little pricey for what it was. Service was quick and didn't have a reservation, parking was also pretty easy to find.
google avatar

Saanvi S.

Yelp
Came here later in the evening so the views and sunset were really nice! Drinks were good and cute but a bit on the pricey side in my opinion (understandable considering location, etc.). Took a very long time to get our drinks and pay though.

Ben L.

Yelp
The manager here was aggressive and rude. We called ahead to notify them we were running 10-15 minutes late. They said no big deal, but when we arrived they had given our table away and assumed we were no shows. They were clearly confused and the manager told us to go wait in the lobby and they would get us a table. When we finally got a table and I confronted him he got aggressive with me and told me that it was my fault we were 13 minutes late. We saw other people have similar issues on arrival. We won't go back.
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
I'll admit I'm biased--rooftop bars are always a 5 in my book, and President's Terrace fits right in. It's a great spot to take a date, either before or after dinner, with a drink in hand and Palo Alto views stretching out over the treetops. The vibe is chill, the setting is solid, and it's one of those places that's easy to enjoy without needing much. It does get a little cramped during peak hours, so time your visit accordingly if you're looking for a more relaxed experience.
google avatar

Carmen R.

Yelp
The President's Terrace is located on the roof of the Graduate Hotel in downtown Palo Alto They had an event the evening when we stopped by so it took an hour on the waitlist to get seated. Once in, we were put at one of their small tables off from the fire place. The rooftop is small with seating being mostly for groups of 2-3 people. The decor is so cozy and reflects the hotels overall vintage southwest theme. Perfect setting for a quick drink or romantic date night spot. The food menu was quite limited and any of the food items we tried were decent but nothing particularly notable. Out of the items, my favorite would have to be their mushroom flatbread I wouldn't recommend this place if you're really hungry or expect to have a full meal. Most of the items were small and lean to lighter food fare. But it's a great place to grab a pre dinner drink or pit stop on a sunny day shopping on University Ave

Pamella P.

Yelp
My first and last experience today. The reception did not provide direction to the restaurant because they were too busy with the photo shoot in the lobby. When I finally got to the restaurant the waitress's tone, although she assumed she was being emphatic as she forcefully corrected me, was not appreciated. That said my party and I did not stay and had a very enjoyable dinner at Il Fornaio at the El Prada. Where the music was not loud and the service first class.

Yelp
I finally had a chance to check out this place. I have to say I was very disappointed. The view was great, but honestly everything else was underwhelming. The drinks were pricey & I didn't like that we were served in plastic drinking glasses. The food options were minimal.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed after my visit to this rooftop bar. The view is quite nice, but there were several things that was really underwhelming. There aren't many food options, only appetizers but the prices are pretty crazy for the portions received. In addition, the drinks were okay but took a fairly long time to receive. The service in general is extremely slow, as it took close to 30 minutes to be able to find someone to pay and close out. I really wouldn't recommend this spot and think there are much better options nearby.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Super cute environment on a rooftop of a hotel. The food menu is not that big but it was pretty good and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
Great spot to catch up or date night. the burrata was delicious and the staff are professional and kind. Drinks were refreshing on hot summer afternoon.

Yelp
Honestly things kind of started downhill when I walked in. No person at the wait to be seated podium waited 5 mins they come back then walk away again then go do something else then only come back to me after an almost 10mins of me standing there. I get seated, service was minimal, food took 30-45mins to get to us with a 90 minute table limit thats not a great feeling. Oysters came with a wierd too sweet cucumber melon sauce and no hot sauce. They said they had only spicy ketchup, friend goes up to the bar to ask for hot sauce and what do you know they had some. No one really came by to check on us or give us more water until the very end before we left. Fun view but don't come here if you are on a time limit. I was luckily in no rush but still it was not great service.

Watching sunset from the terrace... Spettacolare! Haha shall I run for President? Candidarsi per la Presidenza! At President's Terrace! Silly Grey Goose cheers! I get myself a Silicon Sipper! Vodka, Gin, Watermelon Juice, Lime, Cucumber, Monk Fruit & Fennel Syrup 17, juicy refreshing concoction worth trying! Cocktails are a tad bit pricey for the amount you get & the strength of flavor, yet you've got to take into account the setting & triple L of the real estate... location, location, location. I know of no other rooftop in the vicinity, do you? Time with friends is absolutely priceless! Other sips we have had included The Nutty Professor! Aged Rum, Cointreau Noir, Lime, Pistachio Orgeat, Foam $18. Their take on Mai Tai, perhaps, just lighter! There are some Provisions for you to munch on if you so wish, we weren't hungry any more & stayed true to the liquid diet LOLz. Next time, Weekend at Burning Man! Yelp
We came here on a night expecting liveliness and music. This was not the vibe, but service was quite good. We stayed for a drink, and our bartender was quite knowledgeable and kind. They brought blankets since it was chilly.
google avatar

Yelp
First thing to remember is you're paying for the rooftop experience in downtown Palo Alto. With that said, it really has a great view and it's an awesome place to unwind in the South Bay. Service was superb and our server was a sweetheart throughout our whole stay, despite our silly and probably confusing comments. I wish I caught her name, but she was all smiles and made our first visit even better. (Receipt states a Maddie Y!) Don't underestimate their occupancy capacity though because we arrived 30 min after they opened (on a Thursday) and were told the wait was almost 2 hours. Luckily, there are many other establishments in the area to wait and pass the time. Cocktails, draft beers, finger foods, desserts, shots.. something for everyone. According to a friend, the oysters are a little fishy and the green sauce they provide doesn't really taste like anything? FYI you can request Tabasco! It doesn't end there, after the sun sets and it's a little breezy, a server will ask if you'd like blankets and the answer is YES, please. They're wool (so a tad scratchy) but thick enough to keep you warm and cozy as you continue your night out. Note: you won't have an unlimited amount of time there because it is (not surprisingly) sought out by many others so they'll politely ask you to close out and peace out.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a review for the rooftop bar. TLDR: pretentious and overpriced. First of all, there was a ridiculous bouncer type person trying to keep us out. He asked if we had a reservation. We said no, and ask if reservations were required and he said no. ??? Then he said that they were nearing capacity and we pointed out that there was room. So he finally reluctantly let us in. I hate that. Please. If you're trying to pretend this place is exclusive, then that's just sad. It's a hotel bar in Palo Alto, for heaven's sake, get over yourself! Drinks are pretty, overpriced as per normal in this area. But what was strange was that I could not taste any alcohol in my vodka based drink. My friends tasted the drink too and nobody could actually tell if there's any alcohol in there. Which is not good for an $18 drink that is supposed to have alcohol! We went elsewhere for food, and more drinks.
google avatar

Emily O.

Yelp
I love love love this new spot. New favorite bar in Palo Alto! The vibe is phenomenal- literally felt like I was on vacation. Service was also great. The drinks were sooo good! I loved the G&T and the way it was served reminded me of how they make them in Mexico. We didn't have a ton of time, so didn't get a chance to try any of the food, but will be back very soon to try more.
google avatar

Kiran R.

Yelp
This is such a fun place. The drinks are good. The view is amazing. And the service is great. It does get busy so not recommended if you want a quiet place. Most of the times we've just had to grab a quick drink and go because there wasn't much seating.
google avatar

Araceli P.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening, went up to the rooftop bar, overseeing parts of Palo Alto! It was super windy but the staff were very welcoming and even provided us with blankets! Great location for the summer! Food was delicious & they had a variety of cocktails to choose from. Good place to hang out and grab a bite to eat/drink.
google avatar

Niña M.

Yelp
Great ambiance and service. The kitchen closes early just a heads up to be prepared for that!
google avatar

Namit R.

Yelp
We were so excited to go to this place as there are not many rooftop bars around but after visiting once pretty sure we are not gonna go back again . The drinks were terrible , and we tried 4 different drinks and all of them were equally bad. We asked the waitress that they are diluted and see if they could fix the drinks and got so much attitude back from her. $20+ drinks served in plastic glasses !! For food they had some over priced almonds and olives. We left our drinks and walked away. Leaving one star cos at least the view was good
google avatar

Cristy E.

Yelp
I'd like to thank the staff here for all being kind, attentive and awesome!! We were a larger party and didn't have reservations, so we place our name on the list and hung out at the bar downstairs. The bar staff there took great care of us while we waited for a spot to open up on the roof top. About 45 minutes later we checked in to see if room had cleared up upstairs, it had not. Miraculously, the staff worked some magic and found a spot for our party. Our waitress was spectacular and took care of us. The drinks were all fun and unique. The food was to die for. We loved the bread and bone marrow butter. So good!
google avatar

Y G.

Yelp
Service is extremely slow, we ordered one dish and it took FOREVER to come out. Drinks are extremely over charged, barely full and mostly ice. Cute vibe, will be windy at times so be prepared And make reservations
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
Gosh, what an underwhelming experience. "Provisions" were overpriced and kind of boring. Drinks were ok. The one thing that was extremely disappointing was wine being served in RED PLASTIC glasses. Part of the experience comes from beautiful stemware. When my rosé was brought out in a plastic unattractive glass, it killed the taste and the vibe. Rooftop terrace is super cute, but extremely small. Crudité platter was decent. Unfortunately won't be back.

Yelp
We stopped by as a party of 2 on a Friday night around 8pm. The bar is located at the rooftop of the newly renovated Hotel President, now The Graduate Hotel. Upon exiting the elevator we were stopped by a man who didn't even look like he worked there. But he asked if we had a reservation and we said no, so he said he would need to add us to the waitlist since they were near capacity. This was confusing to me as the entire left side of the patio was entirely open and appeared to be all empty standing room. I would like to note that he did not greet us or welcome us. He came across as rude to me and gave me the impression he did not want to take any new patrons when they were not even busy. Before long I was greeted by a different hostess who also didn't look like she worked there (seriously can they have some sort of uniform or wear something to make it obvious they work there?). She then asked if bar seating was okay and if we would mind standing in the bar area and I of course said yes because that's all we were looking to do anyway. They treated this place like it was a sit down restaurant which was really confusing when I explained we were there for drinks only. She then took us to the bar and said if any seats open up feel free to take it. I don't know why this required any explanation since this is self explanatory bar etiquette. There were a number of people who arrived after us and were not stopped upon existing the elevator like we were. They immediately walked to the bar directly. So what is the point of the person standing by the elevator? If you are going to host then host. Don't just stand there and not help the guests or only stop certain people and not others. It was clearly not obvious to others that there was a hostess stand. After finally being allowed to enter the bar area, we ordered The Peninsula and Weekend at Burning Man. The drinks were decent although a little steep at $17/$18 per drink. Do they think we're in San Francisco or something? Even though it was a June evening I cannot explain how freezing it was on this rooftop. They do provide blankets but they ran out. Why are there no heaters?!?? Every single patio in downtown PA has heaters all year long but not here. They also are not maximizing their patio space. They could double their seating if they used the other half of their empty patio. Or it could just be used for standing room. I'm not sure why they are not using that prime real estate. The part of the patio that does have seating is quite small with just a few sofas and some small end tables. The view is nice and you can catch a good sunset here. The crowd is what you expect in PA - overdressed cougars and the Silicon Valley tech bro. Presidents Terrace has so much potential and could be a great addition to the DTPA night scene. However, they need to make some serious changes with their customer service. I don't think I would come back again or recommend it to any friends.

Yelp
I am so disappointed at this place. My husband and I came here for drinks after dinner. I don't drink alcohol but I love mocktails. They didn't have any on the menu so I asked the bartender if they have any. She told me she could make me a dealer's choice. I was so shocked to find that we were charged $18 for "ginger ale" non alcoholic drink. If she had told me this was gonna be charged as a regular alcoholic drink, I would have said no thank you and just got a soda. I drink mocktails all the time when I go out but all the establishments I've ordered from either have it on the menu and if they don't, they usually adjust the price by charging as another non alcoholic beverage that is already on the system. I will not be returning to this place again, that's for sure. I feel robbed.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! Beautiful views of Palo Alto and lovely ambiance. The mixologist, Francesca, is amazing and the drinks are made with passion! Attended a cool cocktail making class offered here and highly recommend it. Had so much fun, learned so much, and enjoyed the drinks and food.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! Went during the evening to catch the sunset and have a cocktail. The bartender, Jesus, was so welcoming and made us feel at home. The drinks he made for us were perfect, and the sunset hits perfectly on the rooftop! I will definitely be coming back to this spot. Thank you, Jesus!

Yelp
To be honest, it's a rooftop experience. You should expect as much. The vibe in Palo Alto is definitely professor, soccer mom, student; so a venture away from SF rooftop experience. It's a bit small, but that adds to the exclusiveness and vibe. Sunday afternoon provided a great setting and great views. We started drinks. My girlfriend had the West of Eden. Real watermelon was a nice touch to a refreshing drink. I had the Nutty Professor. The sweet pistachio foam provided a great contrast to the smooth pistachio rum drink below. We had the Pacific Crapachio Crudo, which was fire!!! Compliments to the chef for formulating this terrific combination. The spicy jalapeño chimichuri added a great front to the buttery crapachio finish. With that lasting spice, it was a winning combination. The service was good, the wait was 30 min to get in, which gave us time to walk around downtown before sitting. Will be back with family to try this place again.

Yelp
The service is okay. The views are amazing and worth seeing downtown Palo Alto and Stanford campus. It's a hidden gem for sure at the heart of downtown Palo Alto. If you are a woman that likes to wear heals be careful on what type of heels you wear there. The floor is uneven and easy to fall and with big cracks. Another downside to this place is that you always need reservations. However, more than half of the time the place is empty and they won't let you sit at a table most of the time. It all depends who the host is and how generous they feel let you take an empty table. It's a beautiful place however, they need to change their reservation policy as well as answer their phone.

Yelp
Food: 2/5 stars- overpriced and basic. See pictures Ambiance- 3/5- the cafe on the bottom was nice, unique, but dimly lit and slightly loud. The rooftop terrace was smaller than expected Service: 5/5- they made a mistake but not having my reservation despite confirmation. They were super hospitable, apologetic and even paid for my drink. Management personally apologized. That was really kind of them.

Yelp
The rooftop bar is situated in a charming boutique hotel in downtown Palo Alto, with friendly and welcoming service staff. It is a delightful and rare gem in the peninsula area. Reservations are strongly recommended as the rooftop bar opens at 4pm and fills up quickly; by 4:15 on a Saturday afternoon, they were turning away unreserved guests. Arriving early, we got drinks from the hotel lobby bar and brought them up to the rooftop without any issue. It's a fantastic spot to relax and socialize with friends while enjoying the sunset. We had a delightful experience during our visit.

Yelp
Food is great, you can see and feel that whoever made the food made it from his heart. Service is awesome, friendly staff. Absolutely coming back.

Yelp
I did not get a chance to go up to the bar. Unfortunately the bouncer would not allow us up there. He was very mean and rude. He wouldn't even let me finish my sentence. We all walked in, i asked a question and he cut me off. I wouldn't go back here even if i was paid to. This rooftop bar received exposer due to a viral video on IG. Its a waste of your time.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here since they opened because I'm a sucker for rooftop bars. Downtown Palo Alto won't give you the cityscape views you expect from the traditional rooftop bar, but it's still a nice outdoor setting on the top floor of the new Graduate Hotel. We were there for a private event and had a section to ourselves on the side. We had a different event package, but I was able to get a Nutty Professor from the regular bar, which was a great tiki drink. It's well balanced but definitely strong. I'll definitely have to come back for drinks on another night. It was packed by 5pm on a Friday!

Yelp
Influencers Welcome (everyone else gtfo)! I hate this place. I don't say that often. I don't say it lightly. But I hate this place. I went for an evening date with my girlfriend. She made us reservations a week or two in advance and we were excited to try out a new spot. We arrived on time and were seated pretty quickly. The place is very small. The tiles on the ground feel like they were laid in a rush because they kinda move below your feet. Odd thing to point out...I realize. But hey, I hate this place. While we were there I'd count about 15 people were turned away for not having a reservation. They couldn't even order at the (empty) bar. I found this odd. We ordered our drinks (I had to go with my second choice as they didn't have my first pick). We also got olives. The drinks were served and they looked pretty. The olives were good. All in all nothing was super wrong yet. But let me remind you, I hate this place. And here is when this place earned my ire. There were two couches. One on either side of the bar and the sun was hitting them. It was a cold evening in March so we wanted some sun to try and warm up. Both parties on the couches were clearly about to leave. So we asked our server if we could move to one. She said she'd look into it. Afterward the couple sitting at the next table asked the same thing. To my surprise they were moved to a couch first. The server came back, apologized and offered us the other (apparently better) couch. A few minutes later the hostess came over. She let us know that we could NOT have the couch. WHY? Because "influencers" were coming by and management wanted THEM to have access to the couch for PHOTOS. Also...the other couple that went to the other couch were also influencers and also wanted photos. This was the most 2023 thing I've ever heard. We eventually were moved by our (very very nice) server to the edge of the couch and enjoyed watching the influencers boyfriend take 500 photos of her holding a pretty drink only for her to say they were all bad. And of her taking 500 photos of her oysters. When the bf asked if she was going to start eating them she flippantly replied "oh I'm not eating these!" So yeah. We paid our bill and got out of there as soon as our drinks were done. Never to return. What, did I mention I HATE THIS PLACE?

Yelp
Was a little skeptical coming here since there weren't many reviews and the rating was low. But like many I came here for the rooftop bar views. Like previous reviews mentioned it's best to come here with a reservation, but if not then you could be like me and my friends who sat at the bar. We came on a saturday around 4pm so it wasn't too busy yet so my group of friends were able to sit at the bar. Overall the cocktails were good and the bartenders were great and friendly and gave us good recommendations. My favorite cocktail was the Nutty Professor and Weekend at Burning Man. I would say that most of the cocktails we got were good though. As we were leaving around 6pm it looked like they were getting busier so recommend coming here during the day if you want to be able to grab seats w/o a reservation.

Yelp
Horrible service. Pretentious vibe. We were a group of 3 and showed up at 5pm with no reservation. There was ample seating (when I say ample I mean 75% available seating) yet the host turned us down because "it's reservations only and they were all booked for the rest of the evening." We asked if we could seat at the bar and they said no because there was only seating for two and were unable to add an extra chair/didn't know how long it'd take for an extra seat to become available. We asked if we could be put on the list or make a reservation with him and his response was "we don't take reservations the day of." Just shutting us down every single time and felt like he just wanted us to leave. We later checked and guess what? They did have reservations available at 5pm. It's like they seriously don't want customers! I haven't dealt with someone in service that's so unwilling to work with you or accommodate. Eventually we went to the bar downstairs by the hotel lobby. The bartender overheard us talk about our horrible experience. It turns out he was the boss. He took us upstairs and made the host sit us (thankful for that.) We sat and the host tells us that someone was coming at 7pm so we had to leave by then. It was 5pm! He was initially holding the table and refusing to sit us for a group that wasn't showing up for another 2 HOURS! We ended up being there for 45 minutes and that entire time, NO new parties were sat and they still had 6+ tables open. Anyways, bartender took 20+ mins to take our order. We asked for 1 modification to one of the drinks. They got it wrong. They did replace the drink but overall, drinks are overpriced and very average. $19 for a glass that was half full. Needless to say, I'm never coming back. I don't see how this place will stay in business with that kind of service.

Yelp
Make sure you have a reservation for the rooftop!! The hostess was professional and kind. It gets a bit chilly on the roof but the heaters kept us warm. The drinks came out quickly and Moose was a pleasure to talk to. He made our experience that much more memorable. Would come back again!

Yelp
