15 Best Places to Eat and Drink Outside in San Francisco | Eater SF

"One of San Francisco’s finest outdoor patios is absolutely its most unsung. While birthday parties and bowling clubs take to the lanes inside, a big outdoor seating area lies before the Presidio’s sweeping views of Alcatraz and the Bay. Curly fries, a full bar, and burgers are tough to find cheap in the city let alone with top-tier views abound." - Dianne de Guzman

Where To Eat With Kids In The Bay Area, According To Caroline Chambers

"Kids are obsessed with coming to this bowling alley. This is where I go with big groups of friends, especially when we’re looking for a fun indoor activity. The staff is really friendly with kids and it's fun for adults, too. They have a bar, Jell-O shots, and great snacky food. It's a great vibe here." - patrick wong

Always my fave spot. If you’re a newbie, rent a lane at 6 before the pros come and kids leave. Thank you to Jameson and the entire team for another incredible evening. Love this place so much. Come early to enjoy view.

Google
Hidden gem in a great location. Open later so if you are staying at the presidio it is great. The food was good. They offer a full bar and all while you listen to great music and bowl. Take a stroll down to the pier and enjoy the sites.

Google
Absolutely amazing So happy to have been invited to the beautiful bowling alley and the view is incredible.

Google
Was it pricey? Yes. Was it awesome tho? Also yes. My tire deflated while I was having dinner at the nearby restaurant. Had a while to kill before triple A showed up so I bowled a few rounds, had a few beers and some yummy greasy food and had a really fun time! These guys saved my anniversary date.

Google
Such a fun place for city kids to have fun. Shout out to Adonai for the excellent service We were there for a birthday party and he made all of us feel welcome. He was friendly, attentive, and made sure all of us- (adults and children alike) were having a great time. He truly made our experience even more enjoyable. Presidio Bowl is lucky to have him. Thank you!

Google
Presidio bowl I believe is a hidden gem in San Francisco. We took our four year old daughter for her first time and she had a blast there. Keep in mind it’s a small bowling alley and it gets full really quick especially on the weekends, so I highly recommend to plan ahead of time and make reservations in advance reservation prices vary, depending on the time and day that you’ll be going, and they got a great selection of food and drinks to choose from as well as a full bar.

Google
Over four bucks for a cheap 50 cent bottle of water. Ridiculous.

Edmund Wong

Google
Easy to take for granted that there is a modern nondescript bowling alley in the middle of all that Presidio beauty. Customer service was very patient and top notch for our large party of kids: everything to getting us shoes and getting the lanes ready. We got our bowling balls stuck in the gutter numerous times so special should out to Oswaldo (sorry Oswaldo) for helping us on numerous occasions dig them out. He is the best!

Yelp
Presidio Bowl is clean, and the graphics are kinda cool. The arcade is a little small, but it's cute and does the job. The kids had a great time here. The kitchen was not open when we were there, but it's all good. One con that was noticeable was that a lot of the lanes needed some kind of maintenance or some of them were messing up for miscellaneous reasons. One thing I do want to comment on is that management was very pleasant towards us. Our reservation was at 12 but due to a clerical error, we showed up at 10:30. The manager went out of his way to accommodate us, even when it was just him. That really says a lot about a place, so thank you!

Yelp
Swung by for a photo meet up here with a bunch of friends. It was my first time checking this place out and I didn't know what to expect. I primarily went here for a quick bite before my friends and I headed out to snap photos. I ordered the fries and chicken tenders and I don't know what it is, but the fries they have here are my favorite kind. Chicken tenders were fresh, service was fast even though one of the bartenders had told me there would be slowdowns with serving food because of the huge birthday party happening inside, but my food had finished within about 5 minutes so it wasn't too much of a wait. Staff is pretty friendly here too even though they were super busy. Overall, seems like a fun place to grab drinks and food. Parking in the area is pretty plentiful, lots of beers on tap and good vibes.

Yelp
5 stars for location. 3 for food. 5 for drinks. Great place for socializing. The view from the outdoor patio showcases one of the best spots in SF.

Yelp
I had a lot of fun visiting Presidio Bowl! I went after work on a Friday evening, and there was plenty of parking outside. The inside of the bowling alley was clean. My team and I rented a few lanes for two hours, and it was pretty smooth. I liked the scoreboards; you can customize them with your face and it's just funny to watch the animations on your downtime. They had a wide array of drinks and snacks to choose from. Their pizza and wings are great! The only issue we had was after our second game. There was an issue with my lane, resulting in a 10 minute pause so that maintenance could fix the issue. I'd go again if I could!

Yelp
Presidio Bowl is not just a bowling alley, it's a great place to stop by for a bite to eat or some drinks as well. Ask for Jameson! -- Food -- This bowling alley has a good selection of snacks and food. My favorite is the spicy chicken sandwich and you can't go wrong with some curly fries. -- Drinks -- Presidio Bowl has a full bar with cocktails and a great selection of beers, ciders, and hard seltzers. -- Atmosphere -- The bowling alley is a traditional bowling alley, but they have a very cozy outdoor space as well with fireplaces and heaters. -- Service -- Jameson is the rockstar of Presidio bowl you'll find behind the bar. He always provides great service and goes out of his way to make sure everyone's having a good time.

Yelp
Just finished taking a bunch of students here and it was such a great and seamless experience. Their website is fantastic, user friendly and super easy to make a reservation. Since it was raining, we were a tad late, and they were still very accommodating (and they also said they can wait 30min to hold a rezzie). The venue is clean, kitchen staff is extremely quick on the food orders, and they didn't make a fuss when one of my teenagers decided to be a tad destructive. The staff are super knowledgeable and kind and just overall quick with all the things. This place is fantastic. FYI the lightest balls they have are 9s, so hope you got muscle!

Yelp
I try not to write negative reviews, but this place deserves it. I went during an open time and they said they were closed for some BS reason, even though other people were bowling, and I would need a reservation. So I opened my phone and reserved a lane for 30 minutes later. Came back for my reservation and they said they weren't taking any reservations. There were 2 open lanes this entire time. Just a crappy place to try to bowl. I've been there before and didn't like it then either, but wanted to try again. It's a very small facility and is ridiculously over priced. It's far from your traditional bowling alley, it has an inadequate amount of lanes and the staff sucks. Spent $15 + tip for 8 hot wings while I waited to be turned down.

Yelp
We were here a few weekends ago. We booked our reservations online which made things quick and easy. Private parking lot where you have to pay for parking (make sure you read the signs to ensure that you don't get a ticket). Smaller bowling alley with maybe 10-12 lanes. Great place for families. A small arcade, a bar / restaurant and friendly staff. Loved the graphics on the screens during bowling and the bowling accommodations for our kids. We were here when the power went out - about 20 mins into us playing our game. They refunded us within 24-48 hours and apologized for the inconvenience. Despite the power outage, our family had a blast! We will be back to support this awesome establishment!

Yelp
Solid upgrades to a family friendly bowling spot. Location is great. And they've really invested in new bar and menu. Patio seating was spot on and great for birthday parties and even a causal lunch. Food was solid too!

Yelp
Cute and updated bowling alley but I doubt I will be back. Staff could really give 2 shits about you. Came in to 2 girls in the office reading something together in the office totally ignoring the fact that me and my friends were waiting. Some dude came from cleaning off a table near the lanes to help us. He wasn't rude or mean, just really indifferent in general! They take half deposit when you reserve which was fine but they have a 1 week cancellation policy which I thought was a bit lame which no refunds but a credit towards your next visit. 48 hours would have been a bit more reasonable like most bowling alleys but what can you do. What was annoying is when the guy checked us in I had to leave a credit card with them. That was annoying because I wanted to use it at the bar but had to use another card instead and also they already had my card when I left the deposit. So not sure what was up with that. The people that came in after us also seemed pretty annoyed at this policy. $109 per hour for a lane. In all honestly, pretty over priced for the small cramped lanes. They have small tables staggered next to each other with 4 uncomfortable stools. Honestly not a place Id want to spend more than an hour bowling because it wasn't very inviting or conducive to hanging out with my friends since it felt like the party next to us might as well had been with us! Food was good and great beer, cider selection. Bottles and cans only, no pitchers of beer. I would say if you REALLY want to bowl this is NOT the place for you. If you want to hang out with your friends or are on a date and want to take selfies and pics of being in the Presidio this is the place for you.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
Lane needed to be reset several times, which ate into our playing time yet they shut off our lane promptly after the 1.5 hours we paid for and were pretty rude about it.

Yelp
It seems strange to review a bowling alley on its food but here goes. We checked into The Lodge at the Presidio which is a couple of blocks away. We were dead tired after a day of traveling and didn't want to go to a regular restaurant. The desk clerk at the hotel suggested that we walk up to the Presidio Bowl. I was dubious but we did it anyway and it turned out to be a great choice. The food was good- sandwiches, burgers, pizza but also salads. There is an excellent view of the Bay and one of the employees loaned the patrons binoculars to see the boats. There is a fire pit, service is quick, food is good a prices moderate. What else can one ask for?
google avatar

Filip S.

Yelp
A very fun bowling alley with twelve lanes. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with a group of friends and we had an ninety-minute reservation, which was enough for the five of us to go through two 10-round games. The alley was pretty packed with most lanes being constantly used. There were multiple birthday parties at the same time, including two birthdays for grade-school kids. Presidio Bowl has come up with hilarious videos that celebrate each shoot depending on your score. From babushka dolls dancing to chefs chasing chickens to a grandma crossing the street -- they find funny ways to share your emotions. The alley is located next to a bar, so they also serve drinks and bar snacks. A vending machine offers pre-packaged snacks too.

Yelp
Jameson was great! Made the day for me. He set the tone for the whole evening. Couldn't say more.
google avatar

Shalaco W.

Yelp
The only bowling alley I take my friends and family to. Great lanes, food and cocktails. Jameson always makes sure we're taken care of. Wet wings are dope.

Chris G.

Yelp
My Friday night rides usually end up at the Bowl and we usually find a pitcher of water and cups waiting for us, sometimes even snacks to munch on while we wait for our food and drink. Special thanks to Jameson for keeping us in mind!
google avatar

Adrienne R.

Yelp
We booked a lane the day before for a Friday afternoon when we were in town visiting. Excellent bowling alley, mellow atmosphere, lovely music, and delicious food. The view of the bay is amazing too.

Yelp
We had a great time hosting our wedding welcome happy hour at Presidio Bowl! Yes, the renovated full bar with a TON of beer selections (even JellO shots), charming hipster appeal deck, and surprisingly good food + cheese platter all worked out for our 40ish guests that attended. We had a wonderful time watching the ships come in and out of the bay at Sunset under the warm heat lamps and the staff were all super friendly and accommodating. They even made a private event sign with our names on it to mark off our guest area!

Chris N.

Yelp
Awesome place for bowling, food and drinks! Definitely get the tater tots, mini corn dogs and the Chipotle salad with grilled chicken. Jameson is an awesome host and will take care of you!
google avatar

Yelp
It's been almost a decade since we've been here, and I'm happy to see that many upgrades have been made. The Velcro shoes...I don't know, but the food and drink offerings have expanded, and their electronic score system has so many more functions. Service is also very expedient and friendly. I wish they had more lanes and more ball selections, but it's a tiny place, so I get it. Still, it's a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
google avatar

Luis G.

Yelp
This place is lit and it's all because of Jameson! He's always super kind, helpful and keeps an awesome atmosphere, he is the main reason I come back and hang out with my bros! The food is good, he makes it even better by being there!!
google avatar

Geri S.

Yelp
This is my destination for a delicious burger and to make it better it comes with crispy house made potato chips. It's not just for bowling...!
google avatar

Sal P.

Yelp
Just go there. Full bar. Good food. Great for birthdays celebrating stuff or if you just love bowling!!! Had a great time!!!
google avatar

Yelp
New and renovated ! I think they are under new management or just renovated . Everything is new. There's a full bar now with an outdoor patio. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The new food menu looks great. All their rental shoes are brand new as well 0-0 We paid about $40-45 for a lane/hour. That's normal price and understandable in today's climate. I can see them getting busy on a weekend, so call in and make your reservations.
google avatar

JD E.

Yelp
Love going here! It's a great spot especially since the renovations. It feels brand new! New lanes, new full bar, new arcade and an amazing outdoor patio!! What more could you ask for?! Jamison the bartender is the man and is always super nice and friendly when my friends come to visit and take advantage of their outdoor heaters on a brisk Sf night! 12/10 highly recommend!!
google avatar

Alissa I.

Yelp
Staff are super condescending and mean. The two white guys working the front saw us come in, pointed and whispered, and then started laughing... racist vibes as well from these staff, super disappointing. Lanes and building was run down.

Guest C.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here and the whole game were just saying to each other "how did this place have such good reviews?" Right out the gate the pricing is ridiculous. $55 for an hour is the cheapest they go and on weekends it's $77-$100+... The food itself was lack luster at best and again, ridiculously pricey. The place is dull and very plain. There is also apparently an age limit to the bumpers which is a little silly. Doesn't impact them at all to do and if I'm paying $55 to bowl, I want to bowl my way! Customer service was fine, nothing to write home about. Overall a very mid experience that's dragged down by the insane pricing of everything.

Paula O.

Yelp
amazing amazing the bowling is great the food is wonderful the bar and jell-o shots are so fun the view !!!!!!! and patio

Patricia P.

Yelp
Not your average bowling alley snack bar. Not only do they have a full bar wide selection of wine and microbrews but the food is incredible. I stopped in for a quick burger and was pleasantly surprised. It was CHARBROILED!!! Did I mention they have the best view? Check it out folks. Will not disappoint!!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Presidio Bowl is a really cool spot in SF. They still have the classic bowling alley vibe, but it's also been updated with better food, a large selection of beers, and overall everything is new and nice. Also, the location is amazing with views of the Presidio and the Bay. It makes a nice weekend outing if you have young kids because you can go bowling/have lunch, the kids can play at the Tunnel Top Park, play at the beach and everything is within short walking distance.
google avatar

Cindy H.

Yelp
We reserved three lanes at Presidio Bowl on 6/09/23. Staff was incredible, friendly, and we had a blast, thanks to your incredible space and staff that went above-and-beyond. We will recommend Presidio Bowl to anyone we know.

sherwood Y.

Yelp
This place is awesome late night!!! Jamison is the best!!! Great service!!! Amazing tater tots!!!

Ramslykyle 1.

Yelp
Every time I come here for food and bowling, I am greeted with hospitality and kindness. Jameson has always provided my friends and I great service. He is very positive and attentive.

Berto G.

Yelp
Jameson is the greatest! His old fashion cocktails keep me coming back every week! Don't know what my friends and I would do without this dude here
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Your average, throwback bowling alley! With a few updates mind you. There's a big snack/food bar with enough room for tables and chairs in the front. There's an arcade with enough old school games. Don't go to the bathrooms, at least not the ladies. Two out of three stalls doors didn't lock. And they don't clean in there either. The bowling alley area is pretty cool, a few lanes open. The best part are the screens where you put your name in. You can take selfies! It asks for a sad face, silly face, etc up to three per person. And their corny, funny, and kinda cool graphics take care of the rest. You get a strike, some wild scenario pops up and your face and facial expressions are put on a funny character. Definitely made us all laugh like crazy. Food was good. The people who worked there were really nice. And the location, omg the Presidio and park right outside is an amazing view.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Consider this a 0-star review and also a warning on Presidio Bowl's unsanitary and unhygienic practices. They also displayed a dismal response when we alerted them to the issue. When we went to pick up a food order, the kitchen staff took a piece of food off of our order to taste it. Meaning, the order was on the countertop for pick up, and he used his bare hands to take a piece off of the plate and put it in his mouth. This all took place in plain view, so my partner immediately asked why would he do such a thing? If the kitchen is concerned about the quality of the food, would it not make more sense to serve a portion to themselves, before placing the food on a tray to be picked up? Or if concerned about the taste, maybe use a fork or utensil to try a piece? And do this BEFORE serving? Or how about say to the customer "the color on this looks a little different to me - do me a favor and taste one and let me know what you think?" As the kitchen kept insisting "I wasn't having a snack" all I could do was look at his hands, his yellow nails, and wonder why we had ordered food in a bowling alley. That aside the way Presidio Bowl handled this issue was so poor. I asked for a refund, because after that, I had no trust in the cleanliness of their pours or food. The "day manager" came by to our lane and said "I looked at the tape and the guy was just doing quality control" I asked "is it normal to put your hands on the food like that?" to which he asked "did he use his hands?" You said you looked at the tape, why don't you tell me what you observed? You know when "the cover-up is worse than the crime?" This is one of those instances where the kitchen did something they shouldn't have and then the entirety of the staff could not make a wrong situation right. We left early because it was off-putting. We have been trying out all the bowling alleys in SF. Lucky Strike in Mission Bay has amazing table service direct to your lane, akin to a restaurant. Mission Bowling Club in the Mission has an excellent vibe, super helpful staff, and a cool bar adjacent to the lanes that is worth a visit even if you're not bowling. Try their photobooth too! I had not been to Presidio Bowl in decades and - based on this unsanitary experience and the poor follow through - we will never frequent it again.

Bill M.

Yelp
Really nice upgrade over the last couple of years! Good service, excellent food, even a nice deck.
google avatar

Philamon H.

Yelp
Super friendly staff at a great venue! San Francisco pricing is was it is, but overall this is a great place to hang out in a great location. The patio is especially gorgeous on a chilly Friday night where the fire pit and heaters make for a cozy atmosphere.

William V.

Yelp
Great food, nice atmosphere. Game machines are very close to gambling and targeted at children. Kind of weird to have such a nice, upscale bowling alley also include such scummy games which are prominently displayed. The PlayStation game is especially egregious, but the games aimed at little kids are just horrible. If they replaced the games with less of a gambling vibe I would have given 4 stars.
google avatar

Smruthi S.

Yelp
I came here for a work event and had a great time! They have a full bar and many options of beer and other drinks. They serve food too. The tator tots and fries were amazing! However prices for both food and bowling are higher than I'd want to pay for. They have a large parking lot right in front which is very convenient. The overall place is pretty clean and staff are very friendly. There's are gendered bathrooms in the back area with a few stalls. One of the stalls didn't lock in the girls bathroom and the door appeared to be slightly broken. The actual bowling area was smaller than average. The have you take pictures before you play and show animations on the screen using your face which made it a little more fun and engaging. They also have an arcade area in the back.

Dave D.

Yelp
I had hoped to get in a couple of games as a single bowler, but when I went to reserve a lane, I was given a quote of $109/hr. What? This place is a joke at those prices. No thanks!
google avatar

Tammy N.

Yelp
This place is really cool. The location is stunningly beautiful. It's a small bowling alley so I assume that's why the high Royce tag. $75 for one hour in a lane. The staff was really nice, the place is clean with cute graphics as you play that's engaging and fun. They have a little cafe with also very friendly servers. I think this is a fun date spot. We took the kids and had a blast too. They have a cute step and repeat. Be sure to take a stroll outside. Just stunning environment. You have to pay to park.

Yelp
We came here for my 7 yr old son's birthday party. There was a miscommunication - I called they said they allow outside food so I ordered pizzas from elsewhere for kids and adults who had dietary restrictions (gluten free) when we arrived w the pizzas they did not allow consumption of those saying if someone gets sick they will be blamed... but at the same time they confirmed outside cakes are allowed?! In any case they way they handled it was lame not focusing on a mutual solution, three employees denying that they ever said what I heard, arguing, bad. We bought pizzas for the rest of the group then from them. It was alright. When we were leaving though they agreed to reheat our outside pizzas for us, for the rest of the group to eat outside. That was a plus thus a 5 star here. The alley otherwise is clean, well kept. Recommended for parties.

Yelp
So far I have been to this Presidio Bowl twice!!! What I can say about this Bowling Alley Place is that... It's one of the most nicest Bowling Alley that I have been to!!! It's too bad that they closed the one at Serra Bowl location at Daly City, Ca for so many years!!! I now consider the Presidio Bowl as my most favorite place to go to... Just to go bowling!!!

John R.

Yelp
I'm not trying to hate on this place but when did start costing $40 bucks to bowl? And that's before 6pm.. after that it's $55 or $65 an hour. I'm not a cheap, but that highway robbery.. does it come with a lap dance or Hj? I know you got overhead and employees to pay, but I was expecting at most $15 an hour, that reasonable.. not 40 an hour. Well off to the strip clubs Peace!
google avatar

Erika D.

Yelp
Had a great time here - we celebrated our son's bday here and the service, food and ambiance were great for adults and little ones ... I told them so as I was very impressed. Thanks- you guys are a great team!
google avatar

Andre R.

Yelp
fancy place. Food and beer looked good but expensive. Bowling expensive. In the presidio though so makes sense. Dont go here to bowl seriously
google avatar

Trish M.

Yelp
We had an awesome group event here last weekend . Our group was in town from all over the country. Every place we were over the weekend was busy and loud. Here was calm and peaceful. It was a welcome change for me. Inside was a great little bowling alley. Probably the smallest I've ever seen but I think that was helpful for our outing as it was to be used as a get to know you better event. We ordered light snacks for the group and everyone seemed to enjoy it especially the salsa and chips. They have some great arcade games also. Decent size parking lot.

Yelp
#76/2016 As one Yelper wrote, "Welcome to 1973!" but in my view, all in the worst ways at Presidio Bowl. The carpeting, ceiling, seating and everything else were down at the heels and everywhere I looked, things were broken: the lanes, the soda machine, the photo booth, a game- all broken (see my accompanying photos). It was a joke. The kids were frustrated because the balls weren't being returned from the lanes, taking 5 minutes for every 10 they bowled thus shortening any real playing time the kids had. The staff (almost all of whom were kind of surly) said they'd called a mechanic but weren't sure when he'd show up. The parent throwing the party asked for more time since the kids spent more time waiting than actually bowling and they got a mighty 10 minutes' more. My understanding is it costs a pretty penny to bowl here (being it's in the Presidio and easy for most parents to get to). I say, skip this place and car pool it to Seabowl in Pacifica for a much better time. Thumbs down. What a disappointment.
