On the Grid : Primrose Cafe

"Not your run-of-the-mill cafe, Primrose offers up coffee shop standards like espresso drinks and pastries alongside an inventive all-day breakfast and lunch menu including dishes like hot coconut quinoa cereal and Brie and pear grilled cheese. Located in the small but charming garden level of a brownstone, you could almost walk right past, but it's worth a stop for the friendly, cozy vibe that Primrose possesses. When warmer weather allows, there is more seating in the front courtyard and back patio." - Makewell

Prima - Review - Clinton Hill - New York - The Infatuation

"In some of our wildest dreams, everything is located in a Brooklyn brownstone. Restaurants. Grocery stores. Exterminators. For the most part, this is impossible—zoning laws, or something—except at Prima. The coffee shop/wine bar in Clinton Hill occupies the bottom floor of a brownstone on Greene Ave., and during the day people drink cappuccinos and eat pastries in the front window. In the evening, they drink wine, and there’s usually at least one second date huddled around a small table in the back. They close from 3-5pm, so you can’t stay here all day drinking coffee until it magically turns to wine. But they host frequent events (keep an eye on their Instagram), and they have a backyard where you can lounge with a bottle in the summer. photo credit: Willa Moore" - Willa Moore

Local spot that is warm and cozy. I observed that they offer wine however that is in the evening. I ordered the teddy bear and a cup of coffee. Service friendly and fast. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
I would love to like this place since it’s the closest coffee shop to me but in recent years my experiences have been lacking. The coffee is pretty good, can be inconsistent but it’s decent. The service is what’s really lacking. The baristas look miserable and can’t even be bothered to say hello. I asked them “how’s it going?” and didn’t even get a response. If you want people to tip you’re gonna have to at least pretend to be nice to customers… as a barista myself I can say that it’s really not that hard to fake a smile and at least say hello.

Google
an adorb coffee shop, loved by the locals! plenty of seating options (front porch, inside - a long alley way, and backyard tucked into quietness). ac is not very strong but doable in the summer. good wifi. good americano and pastry!

Google
This place is right around the corner from where I live, I’ve been coming here for years, since before it was Prima, it was primrose. Now I wrote this review from the front outdoor seating area, sipping on a tasty hot cup of drip coffee, eating a delicious chocolate chip scone. They have plenty of tasty pastries, which never disappoint, and the baristas that work here are friendly and approachable. I feel grateful this cafe is so close to where I live. I also feel grateful that all manners of being are welcome here— I can come to work and feel comfortable, I can come to socialize, to watch the birds, or the many people walking down Greene ave. I appreciate that it’s typically poppin’. My only wish is that the back and front outdoor seating areas be made more comfortable, with plants and flowers. Unfortunately it’s been remarkably barren and it need not be that way.

Google
We recently hosted a private event on their back patio and everything turned out perfectly! Daryl and her team were so kind and easy to work with, they helped make sure things ran smoothly. Every coffee/tea drink that I tasted was delicious, and the food was incredible!! Haven’t been able to get the grilled cheese with broccoli rabe out of my head… Whether you’re looking for a quiet corner to enjoy a coffee and your book or a beautiful back patio perfect for hosting, Prima is the spot! The aesthetic is cozy and modern while still maintaining so much of the unique brownstone features. We couldn’t have been happier with the overall experience and will definitely be back in the future!

Google
Hands down the slowest service you can find in a coffee shop, consistently. There will be a line stretching all the way to the back of the shop and the workers will barely be moving. I’ve literally heard them say “I really don’t mind making people wait.” If there was another coffee shop within a few blocks I would happily never come here again.

Google
Good and good. Neighborly vibes, cosy space but with still plenty to fill in the back. Tasty snackies. Get the rice pudding.

Google
I love this wine bar! Their natural wine selections are great and the Jamaican food from Big Chune gives me life. The price points for food and wine here cannot be beat. They have a really cute outdoor space in the back! Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Went for wine night and loved the cozy vibes! They have amazing food with wine, the fries are amazing !! I also really enjoyed the chicken meatballs. I definitely will be back again, I loved the vibes! The server was so attentive and sweet :)

Yelp
Now known as prima cafe, I must say this place is quite phenomenal. It's essentially a brownstone-turned-coffee shop! It was my first time visiting, and I fell in love with the charm and quintessential neighborhood feel of this cafe. My brother got a hot mocha (which was made with dark chocolate syrup) , and I got an iced seasonal latte - maple cardamom. I must say, I was blown away by the drinks! The coffee was spectacular as was the syrups - not too sweet and perfectly balanced! The service was very quick as well!! The vibe and atmosphere of the place was very charming - people were working on laptops and there were small nooks with tables and chairs tucked away into parts of the cafe. There were people constantly coming in and out, which is a sign of a great cafe! I would definitely go back to do some work, read a book, or just enjoy a coffee with a friend.

Yelp
I went in here to grab a coffee and there was a line, so I went to use the restroom and come back. One of the servers followed me and looked at me like I was trying to steal something, and said in a very condescending voice that I could only use the restroom with purchase. I don't appreciate someone assuming that I'm trying to sneak into a place without buying anything to "steal" the use of the bathroom (which, it's wild that this is even an issue in America, but that's a whole other thing). When I went back in line to say something to her, she looked straight through me and walked away. Needless to say, I left without using the restroom or buying a coffee, and I certainly won't be coming back. This woman made me feel incredibly small.

Yelp
Inconsistent service & poor cleanliness from some staff Pastries are tasty but you can never be certain if your coffee will come out good whenever you come here bc the quality of your order depends on the staff member that makes it which can be frustrating. Last week was my FINAL time giving this coffee shop a chance. The cashier gave me my pastry order and I noticed they had long and dirty fingernails.

Yelp
Great local spot! I came here each morning while staying at my friend's. I didn't go during rush hour, but I was able to get my drink not too long after ordering (1-2 mins). They have a great selection of pastries to choose from. If you're feeling cute, get the madeleine shaped like a bear.

Yelp
Typical and average cafe stop along Greene Avenue. Like many such places, people on laptops or just having a cup of joe/some eats. Cute interior with enough tables/chairs, it was quiet when I dropped in but became crowded once I left. They offer breakfast and lunch as well as coffee and tea beverages. They also offer wine with HH specials starting at 3 PM. I wanted an iced tea and decided upon the Ginger-peach at 20 ounces. However, they ran out and I didn't get a full 20 ounces. Honestly, when it comes to some latte drinks with prices $4 and above, I can almost justify it. But this one was $4.75. Huh? The woman behind the counter said she would make more. And she did. But I had to return to remind another worker I didn't get a full serving. He was gracious enough to refill my cup much more than I was entitled which was nice. Still, the price was a bit steep for such an iced tea. I am not sure if I would return.

Yelp
FAVORITE ORDERS: Coconut Quinoa & Cappuccino Food: 5/5 Service/Speed: 5/5 Price (college student budget): $ Ambiance: Casual, seating both in and outside in private back patio. Has Wifi. Would return & recommend? 5/5 Long story short -- I'm obsessed / this is one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops. Honestly, was hesitant to write a raving review in fear of everyone hearing about it next month on an Infatuation list -- but it deserves all the love. *my sidebar is currently showing some disappointing ratings...to each their own :/ but I truly love it here). I've only tried a few menu items, but keep returning to the soul warming, refreshing coconut quinoa served with fresh fruit (no worries, the coconut is not overpowering at all). It's a sincere bowl of comfort & fuel for the day. I'm a coffee lover through & through, but my favorite go to here so far is a classic cappuccino. There are tons of seatings, varying between a bar by the barista, tables indoors, and tables in a private back patio. The outdoor seating is truly lovely, offering vines of green to take breaks from your screens with, especially if you're taking advantage of the WiFi and working from here. Finally, the service is always so welcoming and sweet! Great experience overall.

Yelp
I was trying to enter the small courtyard to the cafe yesterday with my 3 yr granddaughter. A dog sniffing around for crumbs jumped on her, got teeth on her face and we both fell as I pulled her away. Police came, EMTs so there was a bit of fuss as was necessary. The cafe worker looked out and seemed annoyed. After things calmed down I went in to get her something to eat, both of us obviously shaken. He very rudely said we have no food left, I said just a piece of bread as I was looking at the fresh loaves on the shelf... he said those are for tomorrow. I said could you please cut her a small slice and he said NO. I live out of town and have come to this cafe often over the past 6 yrs. Never again will I step foot in there... what is the world coming to if a slice of bread and a "are you are ok "can't be offered to an upset 3 yr old and a 66 yr old grandmother Zero stars!!

Yelp
Given the middling ratings, I didn't have high hopes about this coffee shop. However, it's a two-minute walk from my apartment, so I had to give it a chance. I've now gone dozens of times, which should say something on its own. This is a very solid coffee shop with good drinks (some baristas are much, much better than others, but I've never had anything less than good) and nice pastries. A lot of the bad reviews focus on the service and I have to say that I've never had anything but pleasant interactions with the people who work here. They actually seem to be above-and-beyond nice. It's true that sometimes the line gets long and you have to wait a little, but I've never waited longer than a few minutes.

Rachel J.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place so bad. But for $6 I got a cup full of ice, a splash of chai tea and oat milk. I paid almost $7 for oatmilk. I feel silly. Stick to the cold brew.

Yelp
Okay, this place has so-so reviews and I really don't understand why. I walked into this cute little cafe and instantly fell in love with it's quaint environment, all the way down to the cute little fireplace in the corner. I ordered a cortado and the munster grilled cheese sandwich. All of which good, the sandwich was somewhat plain but it's to be expected with a grilled cheese. The real reason I'm writing this review was because of the staff. Between the person who handled my ordered, the barista who made my drink and the chef. Everyone was so so so nice. Probably the best service I've ever had in NYC to date! Oh yeah, it was very reasonably priced.
google avatar

Yelp
3 stars because Primrose is generally very dependable for your staple cold brew to start the day. Over the last month they have had a large turnover in staff which has led to extreme lines. In addition, the cold brew has tasted more like water/iced tea multiple times over the past few weeks too. The wait isn't going to continue to be worth it if the coffee doesn't improve.

Yelp
This place used to my go to, I went this morning really looking forward to the people and the coffee and it was HOT MESS EXPRESS! It took them over 15 minutes to get me an iced coffee and there were four people behind the counter plus the chef! this place has just gone down hill as a lot of their baristas have left which is sad. They also changed their menu and got rid of all their food.

Yelp
For the past year, this has been one of my favorite cafes. I live close and frequent maybe 1-2x/week. I always prefer to support small businesses, but when customer service is astonishingly horrible, I just can't get past it. Here's what happened: On a recent Saturday morning, I ordered an iced coffee and bagel with peanut butter, sat outside and began reading. After just a few bites, I noticed a small (2-3 inch) curly black hair in the peanut butter. I have long, blonde hair, so naturally it was not mine. I (very politely) walked inside and showed the girl at the coffee bar the hair in the bagel -- to which she scrunched her face and said "ewwww." I went to hand it to her, and she then proceeded to tell me I should take my dish to the back and hand it to the cook, so I could talk to him directly. I said no, she could handle it. She did not respond, and appeared annoyed that I would not walk it back there myself! No sorry, no apology. So yeah, I'd say that's a zero in customer service. Bummer because I liked this place.

Yelp
The coffee is good, the food is good, the location is good, the ambiance is good, it's all good! So why not a better rating? The kids working there seem like they don't care. I get a bigger smile, a warmer greeting, a chirpier attitude from any of the 75,000 employees at Starbucks than the 12 people working at Primrose. Don't get me wrong, I'll still go back to Primrose, happily. Grumpiness, or lack of concern is an internal problem. Its got nothing to do with me. At 8:00 on a weekday morning, personality is not a big deal. It's only a big deal laying down in bed after a long day and reflecting.

Yelp
I was surprised to see so many one star reviews on here in reference to the customer service. Although, most of them are at least a year old. The only time I Took issue with an employee here was on two separate occasions, the same woman barista, took my order & my money while in mid conversation, and then proceeded to forget about making my actual drink. I stood there for close to 10 minutes, and then had to remind her. Although, I have not seen her in a while so I'm thinking they did some revamping in the employee department. All of that said, I really enjoy coming to this place. It's cozy and quiet, I can usually find a table to hunker down in for a few hours while I wait for school to be let out. The lattes are delicious, I have never tried the food but it looks pretty good and the music is always fun and calming. And besides that One barista quite some time ago, the employees are always very friendly and welcoming to me

Patricia M.

Yelp
I was impressed at the outset being greeted by the professional but kindly gentleman upon arrival. the meal was served promptly and quite delicious. We were able to dine outside(always my choice) and completely satisfied with the service and our meals. the whole affair was to my liking!

Grace K.

Yelp
I love this place. Super sweet staff and the only real large ice coffee in the neighborhood. The chocolate croissant is insane and the backyard is the best. The internet is a bit spotty back there but if you have work you can do without wifi it's ideal.

Ruben M.

Yelp
This morning June 26th at around 8:30AM I walked into this cafe. I'm told that only three customers at a time can be inside, so I step back outside waiting for a customer to walk out. I think "good! Safety first. They must be doing a good job keeping the place safe and clean". Then I walk in, order my cappuccino, and while waiting notice that the hands of the barista are so dirty I cannot even believe it. Not only her fingers and palms are dark from dirt, her fingernails are also disgustingly dirty. On top of that, she makes coffee after coffee never washing her hands nor cleaning the surface. Needless to say that got me angry. They know about safety but just enforce what they feel like. I threw my cappuccino after leaving the premises and won't go back unless they review their policies on personal hygiene for workers.
google avatar

Stella L.

Yelp
Sweet place to get coffee, snacks or real food. But the music is just way tooooooo loud to even have a normal conversation when sitting indoors. Which is really too bad. You can't talk, you can't read, you can't enjoy your coffee. Music is just blarring.
google avatar

Johanna P.

Yelp
Great breakfast (the avocado toast is delicious) and excellent and friendly service. After having been there once the waiter knew our names, which was nice.
google avatar

Josephine F.

Yelp
I paid nearly $8 for very bitter coffee. That much for a large?? Not worth it. The staff was weirdly cold as well, but maybe they're having a bad day...
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
Location, location, location may be a truism in real estate, but its not sufficient for a coffee shop, at least for me. Quaint doesn't do justice to the backyard/patio of this coffee shop in the ground floor of a Clinton Hill brownstone - it's an idyllic setting for one to enjoy a wonderful cup of coffee and a tasty snack. And therein lies the rub... the coffee here is bitter and mediocre, their espresso disappointing. I find the food OK, but small portions, and a bit overpriced for what it is. If you wish to try it yourself, make sure to come on a nice day and get an outside seat, which makes for a worthwhile experience. The inside, on the other hand, is a bit cramped and uninviting. Finally, FYI, as many other reviews have pointed out, there is a 1 hour wi-fi limit. Personally, I don't have a problem with this - an hour seems like ample time to sit and enjoy a coffee, and I think I bear a bit of a grudge against people who camp out in coffee shops all day, stealing space from the rest of us. But if that's your goal/scene, this is definitely not your place.

Yelp
I used to love this little cafe because the counter and food prep staff were firecracker feminists who were super friendly, very quick and made me laugh. And the spot is two blocks from my place. But. Something has happened. It might be called staff turnover. My favorite, the TLV breakfast special for $13.00 bucks, seems to have shrunk, is a bit less special, and is served cold now. So get into that: cold scrambled eggs. The Israeli salad served with it isn't seasoned at all. And the sides (two of which are included in the price; extra sides when one orders this breakfast are at priced at $2.00 bucks) are a bit ??? for quantity in relation to valuation. For example: a thinly cut sandwich-sized slice of what seems to be deli Meunster cheese cut into *4* triangles; a similar sized slice of ham cut in half and rolled up into *2* ham logs; an airlines-condiment-sized pot of jam and butter (remember when economy airlines used to serve breakfast?!?) served with two slices of "multigrain" but really diner-style toast; a very prettily sliced and splayed portion of avocado that's eyeballs ~1/4 avocado. Folks, perhaps the price of this breakfast pays for the intense labor involved cutting things up to make small amounts of things take up more space? If that's the case, I'm into it. Because spiraling avocado isn't easy and my cheese triangles look trapezoidal. Btw: filter coffee is ~3.00 for a large and there is no refill deal, because one has to meet margins somehow, if the TLV breakfast isn't ordered. Also: No gluten-free bread options. This seems particularly unusual given markup potential inherent in gluten-free products, but I suppose if one is making decent enough margins off Lilliputian sides and a no-filter-coffee-refill-program, then charging something like $5.00 bucks for gluten free toast might seem a bit rapacious. Good news tho! The back patio has been revamped and it's super lovely out there. My female colleague and I were the only women in residence from 10:30a-12:30p so it sort of felt like a hipster menfolk meetup. Lady beverage drinkers and breakfasteers, you are needed! Pros: I like familiar places. Cons: Beware, the wc. By this I mean it's never optimal to take care of someone else's 2 before getting down to your 1, because the flush doesn't work. Addressing this plumbing issue could really work in Primrose's favor, given they have but one wc and bunch of folks who camp out there. Clearly this spot has loyalists and why not? $13.00 + $3.00 + tax + Tip for an indoor/outdoor co-working space day rate with wi-fi is damn cheap.

Yelp
I had cause to check out the Primrose Cafe because the Airbnb I was staying at around the corner used a KeyCafe kiosk inside the Cafe to pick up and drop off the key. The first time I stopped in, while getting the key, I had a very nice conversation with the woman behind the counter. She was lovely and from Maine (which is where I live now), I commiserated with her on NYC rents and how nice Maine is in the summer time. I also was STARVING after a 6 hour drive and ordered a bagel breakfast sandwich to go. I didn't even think twice while paying $9 and change and headed back to my car with the sandwich and the key. Sitting in my car, I realized that the breakfast sandwich alone was $9, I hadn't gotten coffee or anything else! While it was a good sandwich, it was nowhere near worth $9, even by Brooklyn standards! Anyway, the 2nd time I stopped into Primrose, to return the key, it was crowded and I was in a hurry, so I didn't end up ordering anything. Never got a chance to check out their backyard although the interior is cozy enough and there were a few outdoor tables on the street side.

M H.

Yelp
Clinton Hill deserves a better cafe! How is it that a decade into "the change" CH still doesn't have a better cafe than this? The food options haven't improved. Two slices of salami on a deli roll is considered a sandwich here for $12. Every single time I've been here, I've witnessed the staff telling customers where to stand when ordering. Being "handled" is not how anyone wants to start their morning. If this place is so obsessed with queue placement they should install velvet ropes, or better yet, improve the layout! Sit at the table by the door and watch how many times a day they tell customers they're standing in the wrong spot... literally just watched them do it to a guy!
google avatar

Julia H.

Yelp
I'm surprised I've never reviewed this place before. I've here all the time, which is itself a high recommendation. It's a really cute space, and of course the name is very cute. Great coffee, tasty pastries, nice backyard and a few good brunch items. Overall a nice neighborhood spot. The only thing that makes me take a star off is the narrow entrance makes it very crowded in the front. If a few tables/chairs got moved around it would feel so much more spacious and make it easier for staff and customers to get in and out.
google avatar

Joseph D.

Yelp
The quaintest most special coffee shop you'll ever experience! I recently discovered Primrose and am so glad that I did. It's incredibly unassuming, located in a beautiful Brownstone on a great block. Personally, I put a lot of emphasis on ambiance and this place has LOTS of it. Talk about outdoor seating.. There are quaint tables and chairs out front with a small garden in the back. Think plants and raw-iron furniture. The menu is simple but good, the coffee is excellent, the staff is friendly. They also have some games to borrow should you want to challenge your company to a game of chess and there crayons and paper to keep the children occupied.
google avatar

Kristine O.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place because I saw how cute it was from photos. Yep, it's cute. But service is terrible. It was my first time here and the guy taking my order did not give me any clue as what to do after I ordered my food. Sit down? Grab a number? Wait for my name? I took a seat in the backyard and ended up coming back to ask, "how do I get my food?" He assured me he would bring it out and he did. But forgot my silverware. He didn't bother to apologize and his other coworkers just laughed. Maybe I'm petty but that's not good service. To top it off the $10 market salad I ordered was horrible. The lettuce tasted old, and was bad overall. I didn't bother finishing it.
google avatar

Marielle G.

Yelp
I have been coming to Primrose since my sister moved around the corner from them in 2014. It has gone through multiple owners and business management turnover but I still come back. Quite a few complain about the service being slow but I must say it is a small local coffee shop, not a Starbucks that prides itself on quick service. What keeps bringing me back is the quaint small community feel of it and how no matter who the owner is, they are always warm and welcoming. In all honesty, the major reason I will forever be loyal is because in my opinion they make the best mocha I have ever had! And last but not least, they are a very dog friendly establishment which bodes well for my chocolate lab Ajax.
google avatar

Zoe J.

Yelp
Matcha is on point. I got their iced matcha with oat milk and it made my day. Pricey but what coffee shop isn't? Cute little place with ample seating and a nice backyard.

susan p.

Yelp
Went to get coffee & a pastry on a Sunday morning. Got to the front of the line relatively quickly and the person at the cash register was very friendly. Ordered a cappuccino & croissant with butter & jam. Cappuccino came up in a timely manner, then I waited...& waited. Almost 40 minutes later I got my croissant. Arrived home and they made it with peanut butter & jam-really added insult to injury! The kitchen was a shit show. Felt sorry for a family with small kids waiting even longer than I did, and the poor young woman at the register who had to keep apologizing to everyone. They really need to get it together.
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
M-F morning staff are great! Fundamental problem: coffees, latte's, etc are *always* lukewarm. Not coming back until they address this. UPDATE - the coffee has been consistently hot and delicious for the past few months. More votes for the morning staff and friendly new barista.
google avatar

Ali S.

Yelp
Great cafe offerings, wifi, and tables to work at, but TERRIBLE BAD POP MUSIC! A playlist update would be very welcome. I can't think when P!nk is playing.
google avatar

CT T.

Yelp
While the coffee was good, the continental breakfast was not. I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered what looked like a simple snack - boiled egg, toast w/ butter and small cup of fruit. I ordered it to go. When I got home, I noticed the egg was not boiled all the way so the yolk was runny, the toast was not toast, it was a sliced piece of french bread that was rock hard and crumbled to pieces when I touched it, and the fruit was not fresh or even remotely sweet. What a waste of $11. Maybe their other menu items are better? I did notice a huge line as I was leaving. As with many joints within this part of BK, be prepared to see hipster parents with kids named Zoe, Smith and McKinley in tow.
google avatar

Lois B.

Yelp
A great garden level coffee shop. Made to order egg dishes, avocado toast with delicate crust delicious pastries and friendly service. ENJOY!
google avatar

Kathleen A.

Yelp
Still has bugs thriving on the counter, to the point I can't help but wonder if they're suggesting them as an add-in to coffee? Maybe it would make the sub-par coffee taste better? As previously mentioned in lots of reviews, the amount of turnover is troubling, and indicative of poor management/ ownership. I don't mean that multiple baristas work a variety of different shifts: I mean to say that baristas are either quitting or getting fired at a high frequency, and that speaks volumes on the (lack-of) running of the cafe.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
The only thing this place has going for itself is the quaint atmosphere and nice backyard. But the food and coffee? Blech. And even worse, consistently bad, slow, and rude service. No matter who I've dealt with, they always seem super annoyed to do ANYTHING, including take my order in the first place. Not worth it.
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
I really want to like this place, because it's very cute and convenient and they usually have water for the dog. The coffee is OK--fine in a pinch but not worth going out of your way, and not worth dealing with the uneven service. Which brings me to the service. Most of the time it's good, with nice people who are making some kind of effort. Occasionally, you get service that is inept or slow or distracted. But the last time I went, there was a barista who was inexcusably, unbelievably, rude from the moment I placed my order. I didn't do anything out of line or unusual, except place my order, or perhaps my very existence was somehow offensive to her. We're talking sneeringly rude, hostile, and dismissive -- complete with derisive asides about you to a co-worker while you're standing right there. Never going back after that. But the place is cute..

Ella L.

Yelp
I liked this place until one of the employees(the only male one I've encountered) was incredibly rude to me. I was a regular who always tipped and now they have lost my patronage.

Yelp
How does this place stay in business??? I have tried this place on several occasions over the last few months. Yes, it is cute. Yes, the staff are friendly. But that is all they have going for them. Their tea tastes like coffee because their hot water urn, pot, or whatever previously held coffee. So their tea tastes like crap. Sandwiches are bland, not made according to their menu description, and so very, very skimpy. And their pasties are overpriced as well. $4 for a tiny croissant?? Come on. Recently went in for a decaf coffee for a guest who was staying with me. Was informed they don't sell decaf coffee but they could make me a decaf ICED coffee. What? Aren't you a coffee establishment? Couldn't you at least offer a decaf Americano? Who frequents this place? Oh, that's right. Whenever I am in there or I walk by the place it is empty. Just answered my own question. Nobody frequents this place. And nobody should.

Yelp
Internet Cafe with a terrible Wifi connection, expect the internet to be reset at least 10 times while you're here. All scattered chairs and furniture seem to have been rescued from the dumpster and are uncomfortable. The only redeeming quality about this place is that it is the only casual coffee spot for blocks and blocks.

Yelp
I like this place. Stopped in while wandering around the neighborhood and just wanted a cup of coffee. Their credit card machines weren't working but the owner(? I think) was going to give me the coffee for free! Luckily there was an atm pretty much next door, but I thought that was nice. The coffee was pretty good too.

Yelp
I used to come to primrose regularly because I loved the people working here! Everyone was so friendly (they remembered my name from one of the first times I met them!) and thoughtful. I noticed a few weeks ago that Vicky, the manager, wasn't there any more and over time many of the wonderful staff members were leaving. I ran into one of them recently and was old many people are leaving because the management isn't paying the workers for their time and punishing them in other inappropriate ways. They also lost one of their chefs who was so wonderful, I'm sad to see her go too. I'm really sorry to hear about the bad treatment of their workers, especially since the staff was the reason I kept coming back. I hope things improve, I miss how primrose was, even just a few months ago. The recent changes have not been positive.

Yelp
Cute cafe with Wifi. Quiet enough to get work done on a personal computer. They have a 10 drink punch card. My iced americano tasted good, but I wish it had more ice in it. I was in a bit of a hurry and there were other customers in line so I didn't want to bother the barista (being an ex-barista myself, I know where to draw the line.) It's sort of hidden, and doesn't seem like it will be a large cafe before you enter, but it is surprisingly well-lit and airy.

Yelp
mediocre coffee and wifi with a time limit. I mean really a 1 hour limit on wifi? If you are going to be passive aggressive to people who like to work in cafes, just dont have wifi and we will go away!

Yelp
Coffee is okay. Avocado toast disappointing. $12 dollars and the avocado wasn't even fresh. I definitely expected more!

Yelp
I'm all for doing things for our friends. But at a business where all customers' dollars are created equal, I'd like to receive the same high level of friendly service as customers that know someone behind the counter. The coffee is delicious and food prices are decent. Equal treatment for all, please. A cozy coffee shop sans bias based on age or "hip factor" is the most comfortable setting for me.

Yelp
The espresso at Primrose has just taken over as the best in Clinton Hill/Fort Greene. The competition, admittedly, was not that fierce, but their espresso is expertly done, and the space is very inviting. The sheer blue curtains make me want to curl up and be cozy for hours. The only downside really is some of the seating is a little awkward; think grade school height desks that will hurt your back if you try to work at them. The staff is very nice and knowledgeable, without the obnoxious attitude that you, for whatever reason, get from a lot of baristas. I have not been disappointed by any espresso drink I've gotten from Primrose, and for a new place, it runs really smoothly.
