Fortunately I satiated my burger craving at Prime 16, a place I have been hearing about for years and paid a visit to with my friend Alex while our other classmates gorged themselves on the all you can eat international buffet under the reunion tent. The burger, which was topped with Canadian bacon, melted cheese, and a fried egg, was pretty damn good, if a bit overcooked.

Cute restaurant located downtown. Took my son and we both had burgers - cooked perfectly, fries were crisp and tasty. I opted for the mango margarita. I'm not a big drinker but it was good, I'd probably opt to omit the salt next time. Wing app was good, we had the general tso flavor.

Google
The vibes in this restaurant were great, drinks were good, servers were attentive. We ordered the Mac and cheese as well as the buffalo cauliflower. The portions were really big so that was good. We did not leave feeling hungry. The Mac and cheese was lacking in flavor… for some reason… I feel like there wasn’t enough cheese. It was very garlicky and buttery. Maybe that was their intention but it lacked in cheese flavor.

I think this is the best grilled cheese I have ever eaten! My first time at Prime 16. Cool cozy spot smack in the center of New Haven. Fun and interesting menu. Great service. I had the plantains appetizer and the Provence Grilled Cheese. That grilled cheese combination of flavors was out of this world! Definitely recommend and definitely will be back.

Google
A great little sports bar in downtown New Haven. A bit on the small side. The food was delicious but also a bit on the small side for the money. Good quality, taste and presentation, but I did a double take when I saw multiple burgers costing around $25. Still very good, but don't go if you care about your budget.

Google
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had in New Haven. Very lively scene with great music, cocktails, beer, food and service. Highly recommend the Smoked Little Chicken Sandwich and the Double Tap Burger. It’s a place I’ve gone to with family, friends, date nights and even for work parties. Some days I’ll stop by alone just for drinks. The Bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a lot of beer and tequila options if you’re into that sort of thing. Can’t beat it!

Google
Literally driving through CT and searched for easy access restaurant open later and we had a toddler. Great burgers here, friendly service, had booster seat for little one, clean rest room. Place is small/cozy but it's the city so expected.

Google
We saw this place on the Food Network. They had this amazingly delicious burger on the show. I said I have to try it and I'm glad I did, it was delicious. They have an assortment of burgers to puck from or build your own. I'm definitely coming back.

Google
For me, what makes a good restaurant great is when the food is good and is CONSISTENTLY good. This describes a quality of Prime 16. I haven’t had a bad experience and I come here quite often! The food is delicious, great drinks- quality margaritas. Happy hour menu is top-notch. Staff is kind, also great environment- music choice, volume and lighting are all dialed in for a pleasant time. Keep up the great work!

Yelp
4.5 Great Service. Great happy hour. Texas bbq burger was good just a little salty! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
OMG....thats all the can say. The food, the beer selection, the service! OMG. My only suggestion is to ditch the tray the food is served on. The juice from the food rolls off onto the table and your lap. :(

Yelp
A friend invited me out for a drink and some burgers one Friday after work, and I couldn't resist! I had a beer since it was finally the weekend, and my friend enjoyed a classic margarita--they absolutely loved it. We shared a huge, delicious pretzel that came with some tasty mustard, though I have to admit I would have preferred a cheese sauce instead. I built my own burger, and it turned out to be super juicy and full of flavor. I'll definitely be going back, and I'll remember to take some photos next time, lol. The service was really friendly, and the ambiance had a nice laid-back vibe. It's small and cozy, just perfect for a casual night out!

Yelp
Prime 16 is a staple happy hour and dinner spot in Downtown New Haven! It's located in the center of all the action downtown and the menu has a variety of options. Also the overall vibes here are great! Their brisket smash burger is delicious they also have flavorful drinks and mocktails as well!

Yelp
Food, service, and ambiance were all great! Staff was nice and accommodating, we were a party of 8. Food was made to everyones requests and it was all very tasty. It looks a little pricey on paper but for the amount of food you get it's definitely worth it. We shared the big pretzel, onion rings, and fried pickle appetizers and everyone had a different favorite. I personally got "The Smoker" burger which was very filling and tasted great. Also I liked the music playing, it matched the vibe of the place very well.

Yelp
We did takeout a few weeks ago because we were craving a good burger. Prime 16 was overly expensive but fucking delicious.

Yelp
Outstanding all the way around!! Here on business this week and Prime 16 is across the street from my hotel. Walked in and say at the bar and met Sadie the bartender. Her personality was amazing not only that she went into details about the drinks and menu. I got the New Haven Hot Chicken Sandwich...WOW!!!!!!! Perfect blend of sweet and spice!! You have to try this place and I feel you won't be disappointed!!!

Yelp
We sat at a high booth near the bar. Nice looking interior, friendly wait staff even though they were busy. We each picked "make your own burger". The gourmet burgers have too many toppings. Our burgers were delicious but, be warned, these burgers are GREASY. Look at my photo. They're difficult to eat... everything falls apart, plus your hands are a mess. I think I went through five napkins. And it's a simple fix: blot them. If that's not a negative, they were tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has great burgers and a fine selection of beers both on tap and in bottle! The interior is very cozy and pub-like. Service is attentive as well. We had a great lunch there but the dinner menu looked so good we agreed to definitely come back and have dinner!

Yelp
Everything was excellent at our past visit. Had the pleasure of sampling many tasty items along with their new prime tequila C.O Jones. Smooth and absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back and sample more of their food offerings!

Yelp
Went here for the first time 7-8 years ago-- loved it -- best burgers ever ... then. Yesterday I went back and changed my mind on a burger but had an appetizer instead -- fancy tots. I told them to put the ranch dusting on the side. I got my tots and had no bacon bits on top of it. They told me it was ground up and put in the ranch seasoning.

Yelp
Stopped in for happy hour on a Saturday. Had to try the famed Belgium Bierhaus Burger. It did not disappoint and def lived up to the Food Network hype. Might be the best burger I've ever had. You must get. 1/2 price tap beer didn't hurt either. Def a must visit when in dt New Haven. Great tequila place also but will leave that until next visit. Staff was great and attentive. Burger cooked perfectly. Quiet mid day but I'm assuming it will pick up later.

Yelp
Just moved to Connecticut last year. This is the BEST burger we have had in this state! Interesting combinations and cooked to perfection. Our server was so sweet and gave us plenty of space. It is a pub, so definitely has the pub vibe. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday so it was fairly quiet. The only burger I will eat from now on. (I don't eat them often, so when I do, I really want a good one!) Try the Marseille, it's a real winner!

Yelp
We went on a Sunday (8/4) for Happy Hour. We sat at the bar and had a great experience! The bartender was excellent as was everything we sampled. We went in with the idea of just getting an app and a drink but ended up spoiling our dinner by sampling a few things...but so glad we did. We tried: Onion Rings (which they are kinda known for): 9/10 Amazing! Sundried Tomato Pesto & Muenster Grilled Cheese: 8/10 Very good. Mini Beef & Cilantro Empanadas: 7/10 Very good, not sure how I feel about cilantro but we inhaled them. Min Mac & Cheese: 8.5/10. So this is breaded and has something special in it...but my gf who is super picky about mac loved it. I liked it a lot as well. I tried some sweet rum drink "Pineapple Express" they had on the Happy Hour menu which was PERFECT! Sometimes bartenders make drinks too strong thinking they are doing you a favor-this wasn't overly or under boozy...you could taste the rum but it wasn't overwhelming...that's how I like the rare cocktail I order. Overall, this place is great and I only wish we just planned in time to try their burger on this trip. Big fan of this place, great food, great drinks and excellent service!!!

Yelp
This was my all time favorite spot for a tasty meal however; I re-visited my favorite place this weekend and the service was absolutely horrendous. The food was dropped off and there was no extra napkin or even drinks ! I didn't even get water to hold me off until I got my cocktail. No one came to check in on me after my food was dropped despite the staff hoarding in the corner like decorations. Horrible.

Bruce L.

Yelp
Ordered two of the New Haven spicy chicken sandwiches. Chicken was overcooked hard as a rock like shoe leather on both. Complained to the manager and he agreed and deducted the price of one sandwich off the bill. Definitely wasn't worth the price. Service was okay so left the waitress a nice tip. Would not recommend this place.
google avatar

Arthur S.

Yelp
I had their signature chicken sandwich along with a side of fancy tots. My wife and mom had a chicken soup to start and then chicken with sweet potato fries. The tots were to die for, rolled in bacon dust and fried perfectly to a divine crunch! The sandwich was also amazing. The sauce was so good! Our server was attentive, friendly and helpful. She was great and also gave me the guest wifi password. The ambiance was somewhat noisy but tolerable. I went with my wife and my mom and we were able to have a conversation without shouting. The city's St Patrick's Day parade was the same day we visited the restaurant so I would imagine that added to the noise level.

Yelp
Located across from the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, Prime 16 is a tequila burger bar. It offers options to sit in a dining room or lounge and offers a casual neighborhood feel. The back wall behind the bar featured a variety of illuminated tequilas. The bartender used ice cold water to chill the coup glass for my cocktail. The drink was shaken but unfortunately, she let the shaker sit with my beverage inside while she made other drinks and it was incredibly watered down. It was served with an olive in a cute wooden skewer that also featured an olive. The olive itself was a bit oily with a satisfying and salty flavor. The bartender was polite and friendly but I waited over 10 minutes for my drink to be delivered and over 35 minutes for my boneless chicken wing and fries. The food was satisfying yet lackluster. I will note the house-made honey barbecue sauce had the perfect balance of flavors.

Yelp
I found that Prime 16 in New Haven strikes a delicate balance between the familiar comfort of American cuisine and a dash of culinary innovation. Among the starters, the Kale Falafel Bites stand out. They're a refreshing twist on the traditional falafel, made with kale and served with tahini and harissa hot sauce. It's a bit salty, but the flavor blend is earthy and spicy, offering a unique start to your meal. 4/5. The Post Modern Burger is a gourmet choice for those who appreciate a hint of sophistication in their beef patty. It's a rich and delicately balanced burger topped with smoked gouda, pickles, herb tomato, pickled red onion, and IPA mustard. 4.5/5. The Honey Truffle Burger, on the other hand, caters to a more indulgent palette. It combines Swiss cheese, applewood bacon, tobacco-fried onions, butterleaf lettuce, and herb tomato, all harmonized by the subtle sweetness of honey truffle sauce. My go-to order here. 5/5. The service and ambiance are both excellent!

Yelp
Good burger place. Huge variety. Perfectly cooked. Very large. Fried plantains were really good as well.

Yelp
Staff was friendly but could be more attentive. Had dinner on a Thursday, place was less than half full, so my expectation would be my beer glass should never sit empty. I had to flag down someone to find my server for a refill. The burger was decent, I wasn't asked how I liked it cooked, which I thought odd, but maybe it's a Connecticut thing.

Yelp
Outstanding beers and great happy hour with all drafts half off!! They have such a wide selection. I really enjoyed their New England IPAs. Happy hour is 4-7pm on Tuesday - Friday and 2-4pm on the weekend. I sat at the bar. The only downside is that the bartenders are too friendly, and I had too much fun here (and probably drank more beer than I needed).

Darlene H.

Yelp
The food was full of flavor and delicious. The parmesan fries so yummy and the cocktails a delight. Our waitress was the best and kept our drinks full. A great place to relax and visit.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
50% off any of their draft beers at happy hour, probably the best beer HH in New Haven. I think they have 16 drafts! A big IPA focus, but there's representation of other styles too. A mix of local and stuff from the wider east coast scene. I tried the burger once and it was sloppy and juicy heaped on a big bun, and quite enjoyable. My friends had a smattering of appetizers and some chicken taquitos were popular, but there was a seasonal watermelon dish that was not as great. It's spacious and they can manage a pretty sizeable group.
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Just stopped in to watch the Celtics game in the bar, but here is what I like about this place: - good selection of craft beers on tap. They have a nice blend of local breweries. - they have an outdoor patio, They have TVs to watch games at the bar.

Diane S.

Yelp
Great fish and chips! Serving staff was very attentive. All 6 of us had good meals everyone cleaned their plates! Prices were right on ! Sitting was comfortable and place was clean!
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
The kale Caesar salad is one of the bests I've had! It's so good! It's a regalar bar style restaurant with a divided partition to sit in the bar area or at lower tables. It took awhile for our waitress to come. I wish they had a better style of seating design as it was a little too tight to be able to hear your party comfortably but hey that's a bar atmosphere for you. The taquitos I wouldn't order again, they tasted bland and I've had better. I got the fish tacos and they were OK. The drinks were pretty good.

Franklin S.

Yelp
The food was excellent as well as the service. The young waitress whose name was Megan was wonderful and extremely attentive to our needs I would highly recommend this business if you want great food and service

Yelp
Went in for Happy Hour, was pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and as was the quality of the food. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
Ordered a BBQ burger through DoorDash. I requested utensils, which they charge for, but I didn't receive. Fries were minimal. The burger was delicious, so low stars are for lack of attention to the order and small portion of fries (considering it was a $20 entree).
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful little find right around the corner from our airBnB! Great food, cozy atmosphere, friendly and professional staff!

Namgyal C.

Yelp
There drinks were great, our server was so nice and helpful. Burgers? It's okay not the greatest. All the food are bit salty. Had to drink so much water that day.

Harry N.

Yelp
Took a friends nine-year-old for a burger. The battered onion rings were delicious. Quite the tequila menu but didn't try any was driving with a little one. He had the children's burger with tater tots was very satisfied. I had the burger with cheddar and blue on sourdough toast. The burger was very very good. Service was nice cool little place.

Yelp
Very good service Got some apps and drinks Good drink selection and happy hour prices The pretzel cheese and mustard and odd but the pickles were good

Yelp
I was told if you're looking for a good burger, you have to check this place out! They weren't wrong! My experience at Prime 16 was a great one. The weather was nice and I was able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. I was there between 4-6pm and during the week thats when their happy hour is. It did not disappoint! I had the sangria of the day which that day was Pumpkin Red Wine Sangria and it was amazing! I wish I had a bigger glass of it but for $5 I thought it was pretty good. They also have select apps for $5 and I got the pretzel stick with beer cheese and pickles mustard seeds. Each of the components were great, however I was let down by the fact you get a lot of the mustard seeds and beer cheese but ONLY ONE pretzel stick. To me, $5 is a bit much for just one. For my main course, I ordered their Tap House Signature. I thought it was silly that I had to pay for pickles but I can't eat a burger without them so I paid for them anyways. The burger was well cooked and juicy. The artesian bread was a nice touch, but the juices from the burger made it soggy and fall apart. Their tap house sauce had 1000 island dressing vibes to it but it was good. I'm glad I saved all my extra beer cheese from my pretzel for my fries. What really made this visit was my service from the waitress, Tommye. She was wonderful! Very bubbly, delightful, and made me feel welcomed, being a party of 1. Prime 16 is a place I would visit again, especially during happy hour.
google avatar

Olivia H.

Yelp
Prime 16 has some decent happy hour offerings and is in a very popular location. We tried several items from the happy hour menu and ordered a couple burgers as well (Honey Truffle & Cajun Melt). Overall, I thought the food was fine, but the burgers did not wow me (felt the patties were on the dry side, and the toppings/sauces soaked through the burger buns). My favorite item was probably the pretzel stick, because I love a good mustard.
google avatar

Deb L.

Yelp
Absolute worst service comp our dinner still had a 39.00 check for 3 drinks which one was a lemon not a lime to begin with in the drink that's for starts got our food hour later got apps that was with blue cheese wrong sauces never got fries we never mention that at that point Had leftovers couldn't even take them cuz we're going to the Shubert needless to stay. We will never be at prime 16 ever again. For future you should have comp the whole check that was utterly ridiculous. If you're going to a show, definitely do not go to prime 16

Linda D.

Yelp
Great pub food. Ordered the Smoked Gouda burger. Cooked perfectly and smothered in Gouda. Had the greens on the side . They were fresh and plentiful with the Best house dressing yet .(would love recipe).Milk chocolate cake was a decent size to share and very good. Service was very attentive. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Mediocre. We arrived around 5p.m. for a quick bite. We asked to be seated outside at larger more stable table available instead of the small and flimsy tables for 2, but were told "no, this is a Sat nite...if you had come earlier..." 5p.m is so not a Sat nite. Inside too dark for an early meal, music too loud, many staff standing about. Only street parking, menu not at all original, similar menu items can be found nearby...nothing unique. Chicken was clearly frozen then fried...service mediocre and so impersonal. Ketchup packets given-I mean cannot you just squirt some ketchup into a ramekin? Especially at the price point. Just not at all impressed nor curious to return.
google avatar

Kazi S.

Yelp
Prime 16 is located in the downtown area of New Haven. You will need to look for street parking since it is a busy area. The inside of the restaurant have very cool vibes. This place seems like a perfect spot for a date night or a night out for friends. After looking at the menu, we concluded that since the burgers looked so good, we decided to get two of them. The burgers came with fries, and we substituted one of them for truffle fries. Both burgers were incredible. They were carefully stacked with their toppings, so it wasn't messy at all. The smoker had a bunch of toppings that complimented each other, such as the smoked Gouda and the mushrooms. The New Yorker was surprisingly good with blue cheese crumbles. We did not try any of the chicken sandwiches this time, but from previous experiences we know they are delicious as well. We previously went to the location that was in Orange Connecticut but since it closed we were able to track this one down. We will definitely be making another trip here soon!
google avatar

Dawson N.

Yelp
Our server was very nice and inviting. The atmosphere is nice and the burger was kinda over cooked for medium so I would recommend ordering to a different temp if you like more pink. The pretzel bun was actually really good, but I felt everything I ate was just average. A good place to go but nothing extraordinary.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
The mozzarella dish with the tomato sauce was very flavorful. The Buffalo cauliflower was just okay. Loved that they had a vegetarian sandwich option outside of the quinoa burger! The fried pickle sandwich has gouda, tobacco smoked onions and Chipotle mayo. Very very good!

Yelp
Prime 16 is a gourmet burger and craft beer bar that opened in New Haven, Connecticut in April 2008. It was founded by restaurateur Robert Potter, who had also founded c.o. jones and the New Haven Meatball House (both have since closed). Although New Haven is often thought of as the 'Pizza Capital of the World', it is also the birthplace of the hamburger. Louis Lassen claimed to have invented the hamburger at his eatery, Louis' Lunch, in 1900. Today at Louis' Lunch, the only toppings available are cheese, onion, and sliced tomato (no ketchup; don't even ask!) Potter decided to open a hamburger restaurant that was the polar opposite: a burger place with all kinds of toppings and sauces. Prime 16 is "scratch" kitchen where all the sauces are made in-house with fresh ingredients. Not only do they offer ketchup, but take it to the extreme with smoked ketchup. In addition to their signature burgers, Prime 16 also makes various sandwiches, salads, wings, pomme frites, and various bar bites. In addition to their food, Prime 16 also boasts one of the best craft beer selections in New Haven, as well as an impressive list of spirits and cocktails. A second location opened in Orange in 2013 and a third opened up in Pelham, New York in 2015. I've been going to Prime 16 for at least a decade. It's easily one of my favorite craft beer bars in New Haven and I have attended many tap takeovers there. I recently stopped in for lunch when I had a half day at work. I looked over their impressive draught list and decided to order "O.J. On Parole": a hazy IPA by Lock City Brewing in Stamford. It had nice citrusy hints from the Citra and Mosaic hops with a slight malty finish. For food, I ordered my go-to: "The Smoker" with a side of Truffle Parmesan Fries. This burger is topped with smoked gouda cheese, applewood bacon, sautéed onions, mushrooms, butterleaf lettuce, and tomato on a brioche bun. I rarely order a different burger; it's one of the best I've ever had! After finishing my beer, I decided to order another. This time I had "Sapphire Unicorn": a Double IPA by Lone Pine Brewing in Portland, Maine. It was super hoppy with hints of an orange creamsicle. Along with Louis' Lunch and Contois Tavern, Prime 16 completes a trifecta that shows the world that New Haven makes fine burgers in addition to pizza.

Yelp
The food is over priced. The burgers were super greasy and the tater tots were over seasoned. The service was so-so.

Laurie L.

Yelp
We popped in by accident and I'm glad we did... Food was amazing, staff was great, atmosphere great, beer great.. EXCELLENT !!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Pat R.

Yelp
An absolute fantastic find!! Excellent selection of craft beers along with knowledgable and welcoming bartenders that can help you order if your not a Craft drinker. The burgers are amazing! A combination of top quality and creative culinary flair. Presentation and food pairings are exceptional. We had tried a few things on the menu and was impressed overall. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming; cozy to say the least. Suits families and even a first date!!! Been living Stamford for a long time and will now ONLY eat my burgers at Prime 16!!!!!!

Samantha M.

Yelp
My family and I tried Prime 16 for the first time last night and we were wowed by the experience. The food and service were both amazing, and the restaurant had a wonderful cozy ambiance. We will 100% be back soon!!

Gabriella G.

Yelp
I got the Honey truffle burger with truffle fries, my best friend got the New Yorker, both were 10/10. Try the Pineapple Express drink, you won't regret it.

Yelp
Ordered take-out because I had a Grubhub gift. Hands down the best gourmet burger I've had in a long time. And they were quick. If you live close by and still worried about dining in closed spaces definitely consider Uber or Grubhub. Their food is packed well and arrives still nice and warm. They are always playing great music and seems family friendly. Also great place for just drinks.
