Where to Eat Korean Food in San Diego

"A cut above most AYCE (all-you-can-eat) Korean barbecue restaurants, Prime Grill offers quality meats for grilling, including sets that feature various cuts and side dishes like corn cheese and steamed egg. From its list of classic dishes, try a hot stone rice bowl, simmering tofu stew, or a cold noodles like bibim naegnmyun, a bowl of buckwheat noodles in a spicy sauce that’s ideal in hot weather." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
We like going to Convoy st for Korean bbq and after trying a couple of places, this is one of my favorites. Better prices than others as well as a good variety of meat for the lowest cost menu. Updated menu in the picture for most recent prices. Important to mention there is better parking than in other places

We haven't been to this Korean BBQ, Prime Grill Korean BBQ, for a long time but the food was both delicious and the service was fantastic. The price was very reasonable as well.

Came here on a Monday late afternoon. We were seated right away. Serving us with food was fast even when it became busier. Their meat is pretty good, especially the marinated/flavored ones (highly recommend the spicy beef brisket). Would definitely come back!

Walked in with my partner and was ignored by staff. We stood and waited for 20mins at the host stand. Other groups came in and they were acknowledged but we were ignored. Walked over to rakiraki instead.

Google
I love that the staff comes to your table from time to time to check your grill and cut the meat or put them on the grill for you. It shows that they care. We ordered the galbitang meat combo A and did not know that it's a lot already because we also ordered the hot bibimbap plate. We spent over $100+ for two, but we took home some food. A bit pricey. Food is real delicious! Will come back again. Thank you for a great service Prime Grill!👍🏼❤️‼️

Google
It's a popular place and for a good reason. Food is really good. Service is good. Price is great for all you can eat k bbq. There's a two hour limit but you're trolling if you're eating for two hours. Parking lot is small and difficult to find a spot. So you may have to find street parking a few blocks away and walk there.

Google
So good we went back the following week. Although, there's not as many side options as other kbbq places the quality of meat and food definitely makes up for it. The steamed egg is flavored with green onions and always fluffy, the corn cheese is a tasty add on, the salad is good and the meat portions are generous so you don't have to ask for more as much.

Google
This place was fun and the food just keeps coming. It was a good experience but I wouldn't go back unless I was with a crowd and they all wanted to go. Everything hardly has any flavor, there's pepper and salt at the table. Food is not nasty at all but definitely not a favorite of mine. Like I said it was a cool experience but I would rather go somewhere else where food actually has flavor. Bunch of other places I would have rather gone and woulda been cheaper as well..

Yelp
$30.99 basic KBBQ AYCE Brisket was a little lean, beef belly was not bad, poor neck steak was good. Side dishes average, nothing stood out. Service was efficient despite only 2-3 servers on busy Wednesday afternoon Overall not a bad choice but we do like Buga a little better
google avatar

Yelp
Overall for what it's worth, it's a kbbq place that will give you everything that you need. Would I say that this is the most phenomenal kbbq I've ever had? Obviously not. But for a Friday night friends gathering and just to satisfy your inner cravings for a variety of proteins, this place does the job. For $35, you can get the premium menu that includes all the major side dishes (including the steamed egg, which is my fave) and some seafood options (squid). We also got two bottles of soju to wash down our food. Service was quick and they regularly changed our grill. I do wish that the beef brisket was not frozen. Additionally, some of them tasted a little too lean and tough. Parking can be hard given this is Convoy and coming here during prime dinner time can be a nightmare. The restaurant is located in a small parking lot. All the spaces are free for the first two hours but after that you have to pay (not a huge issue since most kbbq places have a two hour time limit anyway).

Yelp
This experience was more of a 3.5/5. I appreciated the barley tea + water that was given immediately once we got seated. The meats were a little lack luster here. We got menu B and we found that the top blade was probably the best thing we got. I really enjoyed the banchan given. There was a little pushback when we asked for more banchan so we decided not to ask them for a refill. I always get sad when places get stingy with kalbi. That being said, I'll probably never come back here at the price point they charge.

Yelp
Been here a few times now, I enjoy the quality of meats that they have and their sides. The service here is actually great because they have these older Korean ladies that will cut your meat up for you if they feel that you're not doing it correctly. I like it. I like a woman that takes control. Good service and good food.
google avatar

Nathan M.

Yelp
First time going to a barbecue place like this so I didn't know what to expect. Maybe my experience is normal. You do get a lot of protein basically as much as you can handle, but not a lot to season the meat with when you're cooking it that was kind of a downside for me. Place was clean very nice looking also. My thing was the service. The gentleman who greeted us was very nice polite explained everything. But a few people are just walking by with a bad face. I asked him if they can raise the flame because it was taking way too long to cook and older lady came in with just a bad attitude. She came back minutes later to lower it. I told her again to please leave it up as it was taking way too long to cook. I would return despite the rudeness of a few people and just focus on protein because all the sides I tried were not very good.

Yelp
This place has been bookmarked for so long and I've always passed by every time I go to Min Sok and have been wanting to try for the longest but something always got in the way such as they were too busy or I just chose elsewhere. Finally stopped by for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon since they were 1 of the few kbbq spots open early. I'm sooo glad I did! This place definitely did not disappoint and will probably be my new go to since my favorite spot TGG shut down. For lunchtime around 12pm it was pretty busy and there was a lunch rush but only 2 people a gentleman and older lady waiting tables so they were quite busy and running around so I don't blame them. They were both really nice! I like how they have different tiers of pricing for meat options. We went with menu B which cost $35/person and came with precent decent cuts of meat and we were still able to enjoy for the price point. I really really like how they have an all day special menu as well which is only $29/person but it's for less cuts of meat but it still seemed really reasonable like if you weren't too hungry or picky. I will definitely be going back!

Yelp
this food was amazing. Best Korean barbecue I've ever tasted definitely recommended. Serviced was absolutely amazing. The employees were off the charts!!! The meat was high-quality and it melted in my mouth so good.
google avatar

Yelp
Great sides, great beef belly, and great service! Definitely would come back for the good quality meats.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday for an early dinner. We arrived around 4:30 and found several parking options. Parking is 2 hours free. After 2 hours, you have room scan a QR code to pay for anything over 2 hours Upon walking in, we were seated right away. Service us pretty fast. We ordered the very basic menu for $28.99. Food was good. Tasty and fresh. Will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Truc N.

Yelp
AYCE Korean BBQ for a great price, quality in the meat and portion size. The marinade meats were flavorful. I enjoyed the beef options over the pork options. The pork belly was gamey for my taste buds. They gave us a good amount of sides for our meal. Servers were nice and attentive. Fairly large restaurant, but the parking lot is a mess.

Yelp
Since TGG closed down we were forced into looking for a new KBBQ spot and weren't sure we were going to find something as good. We found something better OH MY GOODNESS Prime Grill is AMAZING!! They have so many choices we got the top choice and the steak was top tier. I love fish cakes, steamed egg soup. They had it all. Servers were extremely attentive we came a little after they open and by the time we left it was getting full. It's child friendly we brought our toddler and she loved it as well!! They had plenty of parking and overall amazing experience can't recommend this place enough!

Karen C.

Yelp
The food was good and the service was good. My favorite was the bulgogi. We highly recommend this place and we will definitely come again.

Yelp
I got here around 6:30 on a busy Thursday night, there was no wait! It's nice to be able to find a restaurant where you don't have to wait, they had a clean dining room and sufficient staff. The portions for our orders for near were perfect for 3, and they provided lots of side on the table. The servers were attentive surf changing out our grate when it got dirty without us having to ask, which is always appreciated.

Yelp
Food is good great service fast and quick people are friendly and they are very passionate about there job

Yelp
This place is awesome. We took our 7 year old daughter here for lunch and she loved cooking in the table. The meat is all fresh. Fun experience.

lali d.

Yelp
AMAZING ! everywhere else was so packed and there was such a long wait, my girlfriend and I decided to call before coming and there was no wait. When we arrived they already had a table with appetizers ready for us. Excellent customer service and menu options !!! #newfav (also loveeeee the music)

Yelp
When we walk in I notice the restaurant is clean and spacious. They offer a big selection of items on their menu including alcoholic beverages . The quality of the meat is fresh, and the shrimp that they offer is actually a really good size compared to some other Korean barbecue restaurants. We always enjoy our meal here and have no complaints on the meat and veggie quality. I'm giving 4 stars because the service can be a bit better, when ordering there's always something that's being forgotten and we don't really get checked up on much but other than that we do enjoy the food. Things to know - Offer kids prices Offers macaron ice cream for desserts Sometimes their is a wait Parking can be very difficult in this plaza we parked about a block away Restrooms available Family friendly

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants visiting back home. My only issue is the parking lot is tight but even that doesn't bother me because it's just so good. We've been coming here for years and every time we get seated right away they're fast and efficient. They bring all of our sides out and we order our meat which comes by so fast. The food is just so good they have the best bulgogi and can't get enough corn cheese. To us personally we've always just received great customer service. Yesterday without asking the waitresses kept coming by to refill our sauces I didn't even have to ask. Overall just a good and clean restaurant. Definitely worth the price!
google avatar

Kalina S.

Yelp
I liked this place. Parking is decent. 2hr free then have to pay so plenty of time. Got seated quickly and was checked on often. The cheese corn was sweet and tasty. Meats were decent for their standard menu. I like the sauces too. It doesn't have super loud mysic like some other locations which lets you be able to have a normal conversation with your party. I'd come here again.

Yelp
I was going to visit min sok chon but I saw this next door. There was a sign that said this BBQ spot also had ramen. AYCE BBQ with ramen? That sounds great! Unfortunately, the ramen was an additional charge, so I had to forgo that... I would think Ayce ramen along with the BBQ would be a smart idea right? People fill up on soup and noodles and eat less meat. Restaurant makes more money by saving money on the cost of meat. Anyway, despite this, the food here was good and the service was great! Our server was fun and helped out with setting up our BBQ. We were never left without any food. The BBQ grill was always grilling! The meats were fresh and tender. The marinades were on point and there was a nice selection of meats to choose from. They also had a few veggie selections to choose from as well.
google avatar

Geraldine C.

Yelp
Nothing too special, but beware they do charge a surcharge on top of tax and tip!! Probably won't be coming back. Parking is 2 hrs free, but pretty tight. There was no wait at least on a Saturday early afternoon! Overall not too bad but will probably stick to places I live closer to.

Yelp
If you're searching for mouthwatering Korean BBQ in San Diego, Prime Grill Korean BBQ & Restaurant should be at the top of your list. With an inviting atmosphere, high-quality cuts of meat, and a satisfying selection of sides, this place has everything you need for an authentic Korean BBQ experience. Their bulgogi is a standout--thinly sliced, marinated beef that grills to a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Each bite is tender, juicy, and packed with flavor from the house-made marinade. For beef lovers, the sliced brisket is a great choice too. It's lightly seasoned to let the beefy flavors shine, and cooks quickly on the grill, giving it a slightly charred edge that adds extra depth. If you're in the mood for poultry, their chicken is also delicious. Marinated and perfectly seasoned, it's a lighter option that pairs well with the assortment of dipping sauces they provide. The chicken grills to a tender and juicy finish, perfect for wrapping in radish wraps or rice paper with a dollop of ssamjang, garlic and jalapeno. The variety of banchan (side dishes) completes the meal, with options like kimchi, pickled vegetables, and savory potato salad. Each banchan adds a different flavor profile and texture to the BBQ, allowing you to mix and match tastes with each bite. Plus, the steamed egg is piping hot and delicious. You cannot forget the cheese corn. The ambiance is modern and comfortable, with individual grills at each table that make it easy to cook your meats to your preference. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, always quick to get your food out and change your grill.

Yelp
Not the best service from our server who initially took our order, she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. During the majority of our meal, we noticed all the servers were grouped together just chit chatting behind the cashier. It was pretty ridiculous. The sides provided are sad looking. There were only rice cake, Kim chi, mashed potato, and japchae. Theirs was one of the worst japchae I've ever had. The noodles in it were hard and undercooked. Teriyaki beef belly was my fav out of all the meats we ordered from Menu B. All the other meats ordered were mediocre, at best. I'll stick to my favorite kbbq restaurant that almost always remains consistently good, Handoo.
google avatar

Piper T.

Yelp
Wow... we ate so much...everything tasted amazing and the service was pretty incredible. I've been to many bbq places and felt that the vibes were not the best but today felt very peaceful. I would definitely recommend and return :)

Yelp
Food is great. Service can be busy but still enjoyable. It's fairly nice to just eat with friends!

Yelp
First time here and it was very clean and service was prompt. Food was great! Meat was good tasting and freshly cut. I will be back

Yelp
Solid AYCE Korean BBQ spot! The selection of meats and sides was good. The service was prompt, and the staff was accommodating. A reliable choice for a satisfying Korean BBQ meal.

Yelp
Came here hungry and got seated right away.. the ambiance is nice can enjoy background music while chatting and eating.. food is excellent! We went with B. Original menu cause there were more options to choose from.. so why not

Yelp
Solid scene for kbbq, as it's similar to Manna BBQ; however, the meats here seem to have more flavor. We opted for the Premium Menu for $39.99 to sample the majority of their proteins. The standouts were the ribeye, beef tongue, beef belly, spicy brisket, beef ribs, shrimps, and spicy pork belly. These were tender and savory, 8/10. The downfall is that there is a maximum of 1 per person for the ribeye, beed tongue, shrimp, and short ribs. I personally prefer Handoo BBQ for not only the cost is less ($33.99), but their marinade have deeper flavors, and they offer all you can eat ribeye, LA galbi, beef tongue, and short ribs. Also, the grills here are smaller; therefore, this may contribute patrons to eat less, as it took about an extra 40 minutes for our entire meal. The added wait time can cause food to settle for others. Parking here can be insane, as the lot is small and is shared with other busy eateries. We've arrived before the dinner rush on Saturday. The service staff here is kind and helpful. One lady sliced our ribeye while it was grillin, as they do at Manna. With that being said, two different ladies kept turning down the temp of our grill, which caused the food to cook slower. Of course, we'd turn the heat right back up; however, this was still annoying. Our meats were not burning, and the staff at other spots don't interfere with the temp. Anyway, the atmosphere was typical for a kbbq resto, aside from the music at a lower volume, and there are wall dividers on one side of the table for privacy (depending on your table location). In conclusion, I wouldn't mind returning; however, it wouldn't be my first choice. I'd choose Handoo BBQ, The Fire Spot, or Kogi BBQ in this exact order before going here.

Yelp
Very good meat was delicious service was amazing and the food tasted very good and the staff was very attentive to customers 10/10 would die to go here again!
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Great spot, they are fast n have very good service. They have great meat options as well as sides.

David S.

Yelp
Picked "B" pricing tons of food - great selection of beef chicken and many more items fair prices and good service. Will return.
google avatar

Kaylee V.

Yelp
Two stars because the food is amazing. 3 stars off for service. They are never kind. And the last two times we have come here they have turned us away because they say we have come too late. Last night we arrived at 845pm and they close at 10.. Two times now they have denied us and I won't ever go back. KOGI is 1 mile away with amazing side options and quality meat and they don't close until like 11-1130 or something. I understand that there is last call.. but not allowing people to come in with more than an hour before you close is lame and maybe you should change your hours online for whatever time last call would be.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
3.5 stars Initially tried going to another Korean BBQ spot close by, but the wait was insane, even at 5pm, so we opted for Prime Grill. Gave them a call to see if there was a wait for a party of 6 and there wasn't at the time - they set up our table knowing we were on the way which was great. We were seated upon walking in and the banchan's (japchae, potato salad, kimchi, fish cake) were already at the table. The service was friendly and quick. The ladies were always coming around to see if we needed to order anything additional or change the grill. Meat quality was so-so. The majority of our meat orders consisted of brisket and pork belly. I wasn't a fan of the sauces provided as I'm used to the brisket sauce usually provided.. this was more of a soy based sauce. Parking in the main lot can be crowded, however, there is a business right behind the restaurant that allows for Prime Grill parking after 5pm (take stairs down to the restaurant).
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
There surprisingly was no wait on a Saturday evening and everything came out so quick. Service was awesome (there was even someone just refilling sauces).
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite by far! Like you are eating with our family!! Never a line!! Love it love it love it- premium or basic menu are amazing!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
I visited this location with a group of 6 (all adults) and we were able to make reservations the day before for 6pm. It was already busy when we arrived so for large groups you should definitely try to make a reservation. Overall the food was of good quality - fresh and well seasoned. There weren't as many banchan options as other locations but what was available tasted great. We ordered a few veggies and they're definitely portioned for 1, I would order several orders at a time if you're big on veggies. The prices were decent, not expensive and not the cheapest but I felt it was fair. The service was also great - very attentive without being pushy.
google avatar

George W.

Yelp
I'd give this place a 4.5/5 if I could. I would consider the thin sliced pork belly, beef brisket, and thin sliced beef belly a bit tough to chew, but not terrible. I'd still consider those cuts of meat decent quality though because it had a fresh taste and texture. The beef bulgogi and spicy pork belly were really good. Compared to other kbbq places, the price for the basic kbbq package ~$27 (Feb 2023) was very affordable, and has a satisfying selection of cuts. The service was amazing! Our server (unfortunately I did not get his name) checked up on us several times, refilled our sauces (this is not my experience at many kbbq places), and was very attentive to us the whole time. He was so friendly and kind. The ambiance was more like a regular restaurant rather than a typical kbbq place. The music was not loud and the lighting was bright.
google avatar

Karen W.

Yelp
Great menu with a la carte and AYCE options. Usually quiet and not too crowded - good restaurant for families too. 18% is automatically added for parties of 5 or more! We enjoyed our food and was happy with the quality. Side dishes were so good too. I personally loved the kimchi here - I think it's the best, my favorite. They also had acorn jelly and steamed egg, which at most places isn't on the house. Skip the ramen but everything else is solid. Service is alright, we don't ever expect too much.

Villamor V.

Yelp
The customer service on waitress were out of alignment. Telling the customers need to share when ordering more food. The quality of meat were a little bit chewy. The salad were great with great balance dressing...
google avatar

Ramil L.

Yelp
Friendly staff. They checked on us constantly even though it was busy. Great for large groups & families. There wasn't anything on the menu that stood out to me at this KBBQ spot but it has all the favorites such as brisket, bulgogi, short ribs, etc. They have all the basics. Two things stuck out to me: Lately I've seen spots serve corn cheese in an aluminum tin and I'm happy to say this place serves it on a cast iron dish. It's so much better. The ventilation is also way better than most places. I didnt even smell like KBBQ after I left. Thats rare. If you're looking for KBBQ and don't want to wait long, this would be the spot to go.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
First time having KBB in the San Diego area. I would recommend this place. Serving sizes are generous, normally when I order I need to make multiplesnof each meat, but it wasn't required at this place. Lots of options for each of the 4 AYCE menus ranging from $29 to $52. The only thing that wasnt great was the service. It was a little too slow.

Yelp
I reached out to my Best Friends earlier last week letting them know that I wanted to celebrate my birthday with them because they are some of the most important peeps in my life. It didn't matter where we got together, just that I was able to spend time with them celebrating God allowing me to see another year. They threw out restaurant suggestions, I provided some, and ultimately we chose Korean BBQ. One of my buddies recommended we eat at Prime Grill KBBQ. This was our 2nd year in a row celebrating my bday at a KBBQ restaurant. This was a scrumptious and delectable place to celebrate and it appears KBBQ will be my annual bday tradition. Prime Grill can be found in the gauntlet of competitive Asian eateries where if you're still in business, that means you're doing something right. This KBBQ restaurant is located in the small outdoor strip mall where you can find Min Sok Chon, Korean Bingsoo Cafe, and Somi Somi; it's across the street from Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Dumpling Inn/Shanghai Saloon, and Iceskimo; and it's specifically on Convoy Street. My biggest issue with the location is the minimal parking available, but there is street parking, which might cause you to park a good walk away from the restaurant. There isn't an iPad for you to check in, so you need to get your name on their manual list. Their main dining room area consists of booth seating with a BBQ grill in the middle of the table. They also have overflow seating in a separate room with the same type of seating. For the most part, the customer service was decent, but some of my buddies didn't get friendly customer service from our waitress. I really appreciated our waitress bringing me a macaron filled with ice cream for my birthday treat, but make sure someone tells the waitress that you're celebrating a birthday. Maybe our waitress liked me better because she was nice to the birthday boy. I'm truly blessed with such amazing and generous Best Friends. There is actually a group of 10 of us who all have been friends since high school and college, which is many moons ago. This is the 2nd year in a row that I celebrated my birthday with this group, so per our discussion this evening, we plan to make it a tradition where we celebrate my birthday at a different KBBQ restaurant each year and we have to wear the same clothes we wore the previous year. That can be an expensive proposition, which is why I called my friends generous. This was my first visit to Prime Grill and they have different levels of All You Can Eat to choose from. My generous buddies selected the Supreme Menu, which was $51.99/person. Dang Brothers, you guys don't mess around. Of course our waitress brought out the typical banchan. We also ordered white and fried rice, corn cheese, and steamed egg. My buddies started out with prime boneless short rib, prime rib eye, prime marinated short rib, and beef tongue. I was smarter this time and ensured that I barely touched the banchan. Once these four proteins were cooked, we devoured them like we had not eaten for days. We then ordered shrimp, beef bulgogi, brisket, and pork belly. The meat was quality, satisfying, tasty, and if not for our stuffed bellies, we would have kept chowing down. The beef tongue, prime rib eye, and prime marinated short rib were the stars, so I'm thankful to my lifelong friends for giving me the opportunity to order from the most expensive level. Prime Grill KBBQ was a stellar selection from one of my foodie Best Pals. We might need to deviate from our try a different KBBQ restaurant for my birthday proposition because I won't be mad at my Besties if we dine at Prime Grill two years in a row.

Yelp
Great selection of food and meats. Marinade was spot on. Enjoyed the spaciousness of the tables cleanliness

Yelp
My favorite spot in SD. They treat you right here and the service is always fast. Sides are excellent!

Thao Nhi N.

Yelp
My favorite AYCE Kbbq spot. The quality is better than most & I like that it's more low key. I appreciate that they neatly place the meat on the plates instead of just slapping a stack of meat on there. It makes cooking easier, especially the more thinly cut slices. They have good bonchon too. My favorite thing about this place is the ventilation! Many bbq spots are so smoky & its hard to enjoy eating when I feel like I can't breath. You know how most of the time when you eat AYCE kbbq & you leave stinky & super smoky? That doesn't happen here. The smell is a lot less strong. The service is always immaculate and it's convenient that it's right next to SomiSomi. I mean, who doesn't like to finish strong with something sweet?!

Yelp
Is just one of my favorite Korean lunch place. I arrived little early in lunch time and it was pretty much empty. The waitress gave me a very welcoming greeting. I ordered Yul-gae-jang; a spicy stew with shredded beef and variety of vegetables. Gods was great as always, full of flavor enough boost me up for the afternoon. By the time I started to eat, the place was already over half full giving the usual ambiance of Korean restaurant. I just ate something simple but, this place is known for the Korean BBQ self serve grilling style. Is a place to have in the list of goodies.

Yelp
My go-to kbbq restaurant in San Diego! Very underrated imo - I rarely ever have to wait in line and the meat quality and portions are great. I wish they had more banchan options but the ones they do have are yummy. I find Prime Grill to be one of the less smoky restaurants (compared to Gen or Olleh ‍) which is a huge plus. Parking can be difficult so I recommend coming before 6:30pm.
