Cash Only Supper Club Is Downtown’s Swanky New Restaurant - Eater Detroit

"The Cash Only Supper Club is now open for reservations to anyone. That is, anyone who can afford the $175 price tag for a seven-course menu. The new downtown restaurant, which opened its doors below Prime + Proper on May 20, promises guests an 'ultra-luxurious, Hollywood-glam-inspired vibe.'" - Serena Maria Daniels

We were at the Cash Only Supper Club for my husband’s birthday. The food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. The menu was carefully designed and the menu items were unique, tasty and fresh. Our sever was attentive and nice. The live music and decor were really special. It was a memorable night.

Google
On the positive side: very nice ambiance and live music. Sommelier did a great job to advice on an excellent wine at a good price point. On a so-so experience: food is ok, nothing more than that. Our waiter wasn’t able to make a good experience in flaming the Baked Alaska. On a very bad experience that ruins our Valentine’s Day dinner: the valet parking. They just “lost” our car. They proposed multiple options (???) but not our car. It took them almost 45 minutes to get it after waiting on a cold and windy weather. When going back at the front desk of the Prime & Proper (Cash Only is the speakeasy of P&P), they did not care and show no concerns at all. This is something that is unacceptable for the level of such place and the price point of the dinner (more than $300 each). Definitely a “no-go back”!

Google
Cash Only is an experience like no other. It is the place to dine in Detroit, the absolute best. The service here is the best. Our server was so attentive and kind. He really made us feel special. He recommended great drinks and helped us understand that unique menu. The food was fabulous, Chef Anthony is the best ever. I loved the duck the most, so delectable and juicy. This place deserves more than 5 stars, it is THAT GOOD!

Google
Great Atmosphere and top notch service! The live band creates a great mood while dining. @theonesandtwos played upbeat-known music! A super fun dining experience that feels exclusive due to the intimate size and 5-star service.

Google
Stopped by last night after dinner upstairs. Wasn’t here for too long, but the drinks were great and the atmosphere was very cozy and luxurious. The live band played a mix of music including jazz and was very enjoyable! I’ll be stopping by again for a longer visit.

Google
I had bigger expectations from Cash only. I really wanted to love this restaurant. Given that it’s a $175 fixed price per person, we were expecting better food quality. The ambience, service and music were great, but the food was very average. It was a fixed 5-course meal; I’d say from the starter bread, to the risotto and to the sauce of the prime filet were all very salty. Presentation was great, just surprised how everything was extra salty. For the price we paid, we probably would have gotten better food upstairs with prime and proper.

Google
I was expecting so much better from the food at that price point. We’ve eaten at Michelin restaurants for that kind of money. The decor is gorgeous and the staff is super friendly but the service was a bit off. They didn’t serve our table all at the same time which was odd and didn’t know a lot of cocktails we ordered. Little things that came off as unpolished. Which would all be fine if we didn’t spend $600+ for two people. That’s $175 each for dinner, cocktails, wine, and tip. The band was good but way too loud. I even asked if they could turn it down a notch but that was ignored. It’s telling that the place was not more crowded for a Saturday night. The food was meh. I knew I was in for disappointment even with the bread service. I did not finish any of my plates. I hate to be so critical but again, incredibly overpriced for what we got. By comparison Oak & Reel has amazing food and service. The atmosphere may not be as unique as Supper Club but I’ve never been disappointed with the food quality and service. We could have eaten at Oak & Reel twice for what we paid last night.

Yelp
You want a power dinner? You go here. You want an excellent date night. You go here. And every time you walk out you're happy you went. That's the definition of high level dining in my book, and they are simply the best in the city. Seafood here is always top notch. Options from oysters to branzino to lobster always deliver. Our most recent visit offered meaty east coast oysters and delicate west coast oysters, as we enjoyed our way through the menu. The chicken fried lobster was the talk of the table, as we paired champagne and drinks with steaks on a summer evening. Excellent seasoned zucchini and eggplant chips to start! The service is A+ as every member of the restaurant staff is friendly and welcoming. The wine sommelier stopped by the table and was a highlight of the evening, along with our server!

Yelp
The food was decent a bit pricy but the food justified the cost. However, as a party of 5 we were there for nearly 4 hours!! The wait staff took forever. We waited 20-30 mins to get our drink order in. Then another 30-40 mins to order food. The food came out in a reasonable time but the wait staff just seemed to forget us and we had two servers working our table. Took another 30 mins to get the check and another 30 mins to process the credit cards then to add insult to injury we wait 25 mins for the valet and our cars were parked right out front. It wasn't overly busy so we were confused why it took so long for everything.

Yelp
Subject: Disappointing Experience at Prime & Proper I feel compelled to share my recent dining experience at Prime & Proper with you, as it unfortunately fell far short of my expectations. I have been a patron of Prime & Proper for the past two years, and with each visit, my disappointment seems to grow. On my most recent visit, May 23rd, the decline in both service and food quality was unmistakable. Although I must commend Jason, our bartender, for his exceptional service, I cannot extend the same praise to the rest of the experience. My party and I encountered prolonged wait times and inaccuracies in our orders, which only added to our frustration. Despite ordering what should have been a culinary highlight, the Cowboy Ribeye, priced at a substantial $95, I was served a steak that was practically well-done, accompanied by undercooked and poorly prepared mushrooms. Regrettably, my friend's Whole Lobster Risotto fared no better, being excessively salted and lacking the expected refinement. While I appreciated the gesture of apology from Lawrence, the manager, and the complimentary appetizers and drinks offered to remedy the situation, I couldn't help but feel that such missteps are unacceptable given the premium price point and reputation of Prime & Proper. It pains me to say that I cannot justify returning to Prime & Proper in the foreseeable future. Even as someone who has previously recommended your establishment to friends and colleagues, I find it difficult to overlook the significant disparity between cost and quality that I experienced during this visit. Unless there are drastic improvements in both food quality and service, I regret to say that I will have to explore other dining options in downtown Detroit. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I sincerely hope that my feedback can contribute to the ongoing refinement of your establishment. Warm regards, David

Yelp
Shout out to Indra, Joe and Kenny for making our dining experience at Prime & Proper absolutely outstanding! I will never forget this dining experience or the fried lobster. I'm obsessed. Prime & Proper in Detroit is probably the best service at a restaurant I've ever had. It's located in the heart of the city and it significantly surpassed every expectation with respect to both food and service. The name is inspired by the concept of being "prim and proper." From the moment you step inside, the historic space is elegant with marble everywhere. The ambiance, for me, is reminiscent of a refined 1920s upscale restaurant. The meat locker, showcasing dry-aged steaks and fish prepares you with a sneak peak. The menu shows obsessive commitment to quality ingredients, cooking processes and integrity. We indulged in the tuna tartare, crispy fried lobster, and the Dover sole deboned and served tableside. The attention to detail is evident in every single aspect of this dining experience.

Yelp
The food and ambiance is unparalleled to any other restaurant. The only thing that needs work is the staff. The hostess kept looking at one of our friends and looking them up and down. After her judging and seating us every time she would pass she would look at my friend and whip her long beaded ponytail with an attitude. We've never experienced this and not sure what the lady's problem was. The food was phenomenal though so that made up for it somewhat. The steak just melts in your mouth.

Yelp
Came for my birthday dinner! The food is delicious per usual and the staff is always great and super attentive, we opted to sit outside because the weather was great. I had lamb chops, we also had chicken fried lobster as an amazing appetizer. If you're in Detroit visit!

Yelp
Prime + Proper is a delicious restaurant with a great atmosphere! Definitely one of the best restaurants in Detroit. Checking out for the perfect date night!

Yelp
Ive dined here so so much to the point the servers probably recognize my face. I personally will say this is the only place in Detroit that serves you good food that fits the price. Once you walk in, you are greeted by the great Gatsby aesthetic of gold trim and marble. The hostess is always very kind and accommodating. When you're seated, your waiter/waitress is there promptly and really sets a great vibe making this more of a dining experience more than just eating. They are fast clean and very knowledgeable of the food being served and have you any issue consider it fixed. The drinks are amazing, though i feel it may be time for something new. Each one is fit for different varieties of cocktail lovers (you can also ask for something off the menu) The food here is some of the best upscale dining in Detroit. They're ingredients are sourced fresh and they have their own dry aging room in the cellar (near the secret room). The steak here is close to perfect. Tender, well seasoned and complimented with amazing sauces. The scallops were fresh, juicy and packed with flavor and the oysters were no joke either. I have tried most of this menu and nothing has really disappointed. They deliver consistent quality food and service all the time but the real star of the show is that peanut butter pave dessert! That tasted like a the best peanut putter snack/dessert/ice cream cake all in one place i could eat a whole pie worth!

Yelp
First time dining at P & P. From beginning to end, the experience was AMAZONG. Perfect amount of bread to enjoy before ordering their delicious items. I wish my appetite was huge so that I could have experienced a litte of everything. Jessica (server) provided a great first impression. She helped in selecting the red wine which would accompany my meal. Perhaps one of the most pleasant servers I've ever encountered. The wedge salad was perfect, prepared by another great server in Benjamin. Both Jessica and Benjamin handled all my requests and dining needs for the evening. The Brussel Sprouts were unique and utterly delicious! Never had them with chopped and sliced apples along with a unique vinaigrette accompanied by thick chopped pieces of bacon!! That could have easily been my entree and would have completely satisfied my dining experience. Thankfully, I plowed ahead with their amazing dry aged Filet Mignon. The 8 oz was perfectly prepared (medium). The post dinner coffee came in a personal size easy to serve coffee pot. Dessert was ordered to go (cheesecake) which was so good even the following day. Benjamin provided a great historical summary of the establishment. And Jessica, we'll she was just LOVELY throughout the entire dining experience, providing the dessert recommendation as well. I look forward to working in Detroit again so that I may repeat this amazing dining experience at Prime & Proper.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate a life milestone. It was pretty busy, buy as we had reservations we got seated right on time. (All guests have to be present to be seated, but they made an exception as one person was running late and we wanted to get started). Dry aged steak tartare- Delicious. I normally don't like tartare, but this was delicious. The crispy shallots made a great textural difference. Proper plateau- Normal seafood presented fancy. The shrimp were huge (what an oxymoron) but otherwise standard. I tried the sauces (cocktail sauce, mustard sauce, umami sauce) and I really liked the umami sauce. Octopus- This was suprisingly tender and the flavors were great. Roasted bone marrow- Very unctious with great charred flavor. It was seasoned appropiately and worked well with the grilled semolina bread. The whipped garlic cut through the fat. I would get this again! Coyboy ribeye- Finished with Maldon or similar salt, this was super tender and flavorful. There was some pockets of fat, but the ribeye is known to be fattier. It was moist and the flavor was amazing. I almost couldn't finish it. The dry-aging definately made a difference. Foie gras sherry onions- This was a HUGE letdown. They brought it out on a separate plate, which was I was grateful for since the flavors would have contaminated the steak. I'm not sure what was wrong but it was bitter and disgusting. I'm not sure if they messed up the sherry or if the liver went bad, but this was inedible. I've had foie gras before and this was not right. Brussels sprouts- What a great side! There was huge cubes of bacon, nothing shy about it, with crisp apples. The brussels sprouts were cooked tender without a hint of bitterness. Gooey butter cake- Not a traditional butter cake like St Louis, but I liked the inclusion of fruit to dress it up and the vanilla anglaise sauce gave it delicious moisture. It was not too heavy and a great way to end the meal. One thing I didn't like was that the server didn't appear knowledgable about the offerings. I asked about the seasonal truffle and he wasn't able to elaborate or give recommendations. Someone ordered the shaved truffle topper and it was very underwhelming as it was a black summer truffle, which really needs to be infused in cream to bring out the flavor, but it seems like they just had it on the menu because of "clout/looks cool". The cocktails were also slow to come out.

Yelp
Well dang, I've never spent $400 on a meal for two but it was pretty easy to do here. Everything we ate was a perfect 5/5. Our main server was 5/5. She had a trainee with her who was like, 1/5. He led us astray on a few menu items and struck up some weird convos with weird questions. I normally wouldn't count that towards my review, but she sent him on his own several times instead of observing him or demonstrating for him. But the ACTUAL reason I'm going 4 stars, is because we found out after the third round of drinks that we were being charged $3 for each ice cube with the whiskey. We were upfront at the beginning that we didn't want to spend much on drinks and wanted to know how much we were spending per glass. Seeing that on the bill after we just spent $400 was an unpleasant surprise and should be built into the price of the drink. Also, some of the chairs have really high arms and I couldn't cut my steak easily because there was nowhere for my elbows to go.

Yelp
High quality steakhouse we just randomly found. Great service, great drinks, beautiful ambiance, and outstanding service. We had a great time!

Yelp
Went at holiday time so the exterior was inviting and very festive. Interior is gorgeous, but loud. Nice staff, good wine list. Our table was right next to the window which is also where a wait staff computer area is located. We had the joy of listening to their conversations and seeing them standing right at our booth. Any restaurant charging this much for an experience should give every seat the same consideration. We started with the brioche bread which was dry and crumbly. The cauliflower gratin came out a bit cool. We ordered the King Crab au gratin - which tasted the same as the cauliflower- like the same base. Ever heard of spices - so boring. We each ordered the Lobster Tail which came out ok looking but we could not get the meat extracted from the shell. It wasn't pre cut or delivered with a proper tool. We were left fending for ourselves with the gigantic silverware you're provided. The absolute kicker was when we received the bill and discovered we were each charged $3 for still water. Walking around the restaurant it seems most people are there for the huge slabs of meat. Beef may be the primary focus and their unique proposition.

Yelp
Amazing Filet, buttery and melt in your mouth Mac and Cheese - 10/10 Broccolini- Absolutely loved the flavor of these and how they were seasoned. Pommes something (mashed potatoes) good a little small but good. The Pinot Noir that was recommended was amazing. Panna Cota- This was such a great note to end on. It's light and airy and delicious and not overpowering and the rose wine touch in it is amazing. The Caesar salad was probably good but I don't like anchovies so it was not for me. The menu did specify this but I wasn't expecting it to be as fishy as it was. We originally had ordered the Tomahawk steak and it was very chewy (we ordered med rare per our usual liking and it was not enjoyable super chewy) it was sent back and replaced by the same steak for some reason just cooked more which did not provide a solution and was still chewy and now med well. We pivoted and ordered the Filet Mignon and it was so redeeming and delicious. Service Team was very friendly.

Yelp
This whole experience was a vibe. The food was amazing. We went and ordered nearly everything on the menu. We started out with the prawns and bone marrow as an appetizer. The prawns were super dry, they actually cooked them way too long. The lamb chops were amazing. We also ordered the whole chicken, it was fried and seasoned perfect. For the sides we had the mac & cheese (a must have), brussels sprouts and broccolini which were all really really good. The service was also on point. We didn't have a reservation, but we also went during the week so the crowd was very light. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The wine selection is also nice and diverse.

Yelp
Very disappointing. Although it was not busy the service was lacking and not attentive at all, kept trying to get someone's attention. Maybe it was how we were dressed? Oh well. Way overpriced for this mediocre quality; we don't mind paying premium for premium quality!! Advertised as "prime" but actually more like Outback quality. We ate there about a year ago and at that time both the quality of the food and service were very good, not sure what happened, changed suppliers maybe? We were celebrating an anniversary, it was on the reservation, mentioned when we checked in and mentioned to the server. No acknowledgment. Didn't expect anything, but not even a happy anniversary or thanks for joining us on your anniversary. Much higher value/quality and hospitality elsewhere for the same money.

Yelp
I attended a business dinner last night at Prime & Proper and was completely blown away from the moment I walked in. A female server led me from the host stand to a private dining room that was reserved for our group, and she very thoughtfully gave me a heads up that we would be passing their meat aging cellar after learning that I don't eat meat via small talk. We had a group of 8 in the private dining room, which is encapsulated in a wine cellar and feels very exclusive. The service was absolutely out of this world. We had two dedicated servers who were incredible, sadly I only caught Ken's name but the female server I mentioned previously was also with us all evening. They were super friendly and extremely attentive; everyone's drinks were full at all times and each course was cleared promptly. A few of us have dietary restrictions and the staff was so thoughtful and accommodating - I was given an individual serving of one of the table's side dishes with the pork removed and I didn't even ask for it! Everything I tried was great. I ordered a vegetarian pasta dish as my entree and it was very good. Most of my colleagues ordered filets and everyone enjoyed their dishes. I will note that this is one of the pricier and more exclusive restaurants in town, and that dinner here is a full evening affair. I valeted my car, but there is some street parking (it's just hard to come by). Be prepared to either have to park and walk a little bit or valet your car if you drive to P&P. All in all, we had a great time and will absolutely return!

Yelp
A special evening was had - service was on point and the food was amazing! With 3, we were able to sample many dishes. The Bigeye Tuna crudo paired well with a well-chilled martini. Roasted Bone Marrow set the beef stage and we knew we were in for a treat. The scallop course was delicious and the lobster stuffed morels were amazing - I could have eaten an entire plate of this. It was not too rich by any means, just absolutely delicious. Our 20-ounce Cowboy Ribeye came out perfectly, and we paired that with roasted carrots, grilled mushrooms, and Pommes Puree (mashed potatoes. Dessert finished us off with after-dinner drinks and their Classic Vanilla Cheesecake and Strawberry Panna Cotta. Definitely must hit again when we return to the area.

Yelp
Great ambiance but food for value is off. I went for brunch and it was not great. Good but not great, but at the prices I'd at least expect my food to be hot. All of our meals were served warm not hot. The attention to detail was a bit lackluster. Again, good not great. I would just expect more.
google avatar

Yelp
Looking for a place to treat yourself? This is the place to check out especially if you love steak. The service is on par- they are very welcoming and explain the menu thoroughly. We tried the fried chicken lobster- the lobster is juicy. I will say the breading of lobster is on saltier but overall it was very good. We also had the cowboy ribeye which was cooked to perfection. Their steak is dry aged for a minimum of 28 days. Last but not least, we ended up peanut butter pave for dessert. It tasted like a more sophisticated Reese. Will definitely come back here again!
google avatar

Yelp
I am sitting here in the restaraunt and it is beautiful! I will come back and update after my meal.

Yelp
This place is awful. I still have not received a refund what they messed up from Mother's Day dinner. They should be embarrassed... Do not go here. They steal your money.

Yelp
A wildly expensive, next level steakhouse that represents perfectly, this moment in time, where so much money and resources are being poured into downtown Detroit, after decades of neglect. While everything is a la carte, it can feel a little overwhelming deciding what to order. With a blink of an eye, your steak and a side or two can quickly start to add up, but thankfully our *really* good server (who is also one of the bartenders) stressed that portions were large and intended for a family style experience. My wife's filet was perfectly OVERcooked as requested, and my cowboy ribeye was made by someone who clearly has a masters in meat. We added a side of the roasted garlic ash butter, which was odd and not very good, but the side of the house "proper" steak sauce, was indeed properly amazing. The wood fired broccolini with za'atar & sumac onions was a great regional nod, but honestly... there was so much food, we should have skipped the veggies and just focused on the stunning mac and cheese, which did not disappoint. At all. It was very good. Very very good if I want to be more accurate. All in all, a stunning experience, but one I doubt we'll need to have again soon. The food really is expertly prepared, and the service is just as good, but nothing about it was particularly Detroit, beyond the passion.

Yelp
Over the top excellent food and wonderful service. We enjoyed Filet, New York Strip, swordfish, Bone Marrow short ribs, amazing hash browns, Mac and cheese, hash browns to die for, wedge salad, and amazing baked Alaska. We shared the above across our group of 8. Servers Benjamin and Eric, supported by Ledean are the best I've encountered in Michigan. Mike the Manager ensured all was magnificent with our dinner. I even met Jessica in the high class "Cash Only" downstairs bar, and Kevin and Sam in the world class meat locker. An incredibly great experience. Thank you Jeremy and Roger for making it all possible. Lots of superlatives here, but necessary, true and well earned. Thank you Prime and Proper.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! The steak was deliciously!! The staff was cordial and nice as well

Craig B.

Yelp
Service was amazing! Unfortunately that is the end of the good part. My bone in NY strip was tough and not trimmed well. Still had connective tissue near the outer edge. It also tasted like a chemical liquid smoke was used. For the extreme prices, I expect better.

Meagan R.

Yelp
I visited here last week and took my mom for her 60th birthday from Chicago here. We were so excited to try as we've heard one of best in world. I will start by the service was great and drinks were great. The steak was not, my mom had to send hers back, because was almost like roast beef tasting. The lobster tails we got were undercooked and gray (not appealing at all) because they grill not boil them. For the money spent I was very disappointed. I've had better steaks at Applebee's. I have three reservations this week to go back for my work Christmas party and I ended up canceling them because I couldn't imagine taking coworkers here spending hundreds on below average food. Also, I sent an email to Prime & Proper after my experience and have yet to heard back. Unfortunately I will not be back. The one star I gave is for the service, our waiter was great!

Yelp
Really quite splendid. Lovely room, classic steak house menu. Fantastic staff. Portions larger than life but tasty. Excellent wine by the glass.

Yelp
First, I would like to say that the place is beautiful inside and out. Me and my brother got there at 8:30 PM for my birthday. We ordered a few different sides and each of us got a big steak. when the food finally came out nothing on our table was hot, everything was warm. I sent my steak back because it was overcooked and it wasn't even hot. My brother didn't wanna bother them so he ate his warm steak. That kind of money everything should be perfect. The Caesar salad was wilted, and again, for that kind of money they should have made it in front of you like other high end steak houses. The next morning, I felt ill, I ended up puking twice, so I went to the hospital and they said I probably ate some food That was bad. I'm just describing my experience, like I said the restaurant and the service was awesome, but I did get food poisoned.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Excellent service by Rick and Kenny the dynamic duo! Katherine was also very nice and welcoming for a couple of first time guests. We started with the octopus which was phenomenal with the hummus and pita. As a Lebanese guy I approve of that octopus delivery! Cocktails we're also very well made. For dinner we had the ribeye cooked perfectly as well as Mac n cheese, pomme purée, Brussels n bacon, and a lot of wine!! Everything was outstanding. Thanks again and we'll be back next time we're in town!

Yelp
Great food and great service. Beautiful restaurant highly recommend for a special night out or a corporate dinner.

Yelp
It was tasty but way too overpriced. The dishes were a bit too large so would suggest sharing

Yelp
What more can I say about this place outside it is truly amazing this prime and proper since roast is closed help elevate downtown to the prestine restaurants that it deserves to be love the amion's and actually walking downstairs where they set you up because you see all the meat in In the Dry age room and also the wine on your want you to answer me to the bathroom. This way when you come back upstairs you're gonna order everything because the space look amazing dry aging down there it was my daughter's birthday and this is the place she wanted to come and we truly enjoyed ourselves we it ourselves we hadAmerican Waygu Filet,Beet Salad, Day Aged Kansas City Steak, Lamb Chops, Lobster Tail, New York Strip, Pomme Frites. Truly love the atmosphere and the food are waitress cause we said that the bar boo was a little slow because they had a lot of people they had to attend to but I just make sure that you get out here and visit them try the fried lobster tail and the Mac and cheese with the bacon you just do that as a side or a entree you'll be all set

Yelp
I have been here three times. First two times were great. Ambiance and food was great. This last visit was disaster. Came on a Saturday. The service was extremely slow. As I looked around at every table, there was no food but plenty of drinks. Its almost as if they wanted to get everyone drunk so they wouldn't realize how slow the food and service was going to come. I can't even blame the waiter..he looked like he was overwhelmed. We complained to Katherine (manager) and she tried to rectify it the best way possible and said to come back and try it again. She handled it well. I don't know. I may or may not. Just don't want to waste over two hours to get a meal that Im spending a lot of money for. Prime and Proper needs a overhaul.
google avatar

Annie A.

Yelp
Prime and proper is such a beautiful place; my favorite spot for special occasions. I always get the filet (medium rare) and it is cooked to perfection every time. The outside is charred and a little salty but so tender inside, it really melts in your mouth. We got a side of Mac and cheese and I was pleasantly surprised how large the serving size was. I also orders the corn crème brûlée because it sounded interesting but It wasn't my favorite, The texture was a little odd. The little loaf of warm bread was a nice way to start our meal and the black salt on the butter was a nice touch. The service has been exceptional every time I have visited as well. They even gave us a little card for our anniversary.

Yelp
This place is on point. High end and pricy but worth every penny. Great ambience and friendly staff. The menu is off the charts and you literally can't go wrong with anything on it!

Yelp
So, WOW. The prices were staggering to me for a downtown Detroit spot (take a look at my menu photo). I would never order a steak here just looking at the menu - you can't cook an 8 ounce steak properly. From 8 and $69, you must jump up to 20 ounces. Too much meat for me. Recommend they put 10-12 ounce selections for us baby-man eaters. Nevertheless I did not feel cheated - the food and service is second to none. I mixed apps, salads and sides for my dinner. All were exceptional except the Shrimp Cocktail which arrived brown - yea brownish. Not good. Should be bright white with no rubber, slippery, snap texture. No stars taken off, the rest made up for frozen, old, but reasonably edible shrimp - but not for $35, four pieces. Anyway all else was stellar. My favorite spot next door closed suddenly in January so I made my way here (sad day for Detroit, you all know which one). Highly recommend, definitely will be back. Just bring your wallet... Lastly, nice bar crowd.

Yelp
Finally checked out Prime and Proper. I really enjoyed the experience the servers were fun and very personable. I got a filet Oscar Style. It was okay. I felt the steak was a bit salty whatever they use to season it. I also wish the sauce was warm. I loved the oysters, they are fresh and delivered I think daily? They had east and west coast and they really were the highlight for me. Drinks were good, got the old fashioned and the mezcal cocktail. The Mac and cheese was dry won't get that again. Overall, more of a special occasion restaurant.

Yelp
I took my husband here on a Tuesday night to celebrate his 40th birthday. Since this was a special occasion we decided we were going to really treat ourselves. Atmosphere is pretty typical of a fine dining modern restaurant, while still preserving some of the style/architecture of the 1920s. We had 2 waiters, one that dealt mainly in beverages and the other who dealt with food. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the waiter who worked with us on beverages but he was great. My husband had 2 Griswold Smashes and I had the Paloma followed by a glass of the Pinot noir for the entree. The Griswold smash was delicious! For our dining, our waiter suggested splitting the chef's special as an appetizer - which was a trio of Japanese Wagyu, sharing the American Wagyu, sharing the Dover sole, and then ordering a vegetable. Honestly after that appetizer I don't think anything else could have compared. I've never tasted steak that was so rich and tender. No accompaniments were needed! The American Wagyu was good, but wasn't as tender as the Japanese. While I'm a seafood lover, I felt the sole fell flat. For our vegetable we ordered the broccoli and it was nice. However our waiter brought over the pommes frites, saying he thought we should have them with our meal, and they were delicious... but we didn't order them and I was a little upset to see we were charged for them. Finally for dessert we had the peanut butter pave and it did not disappoint. Overall our experience was great and we will be back (although we probably won't go as crazy, it was a lot of food). Points taken off for being charged for tap water ($3/each) and charged for the potatoes that we didn't order.

Yelp
Good, not the best in town like everyone says. We like Paul's. But not bad, not bad at all. Very staff. Good steak :)

Yelp
Came here for a special occasion, the onion rings are a lot better! I had a better experience and I still LOVE the vibe of this place, but the food has never wowed me. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, it's just not really a showstopper. For the price, I want to be wowed. The wine is always yummy. I recommend this place if you come with the expectation that it will be expensive and probably not the best meal you'll ever have.

Yelp
the food was great. The service was good. The waitress were nice. The dessert was amazing. Everything was amazing. They were very kind. Toris personalities were amazing. It was a good vibe and I love it.

Yelp
Came here for my boys birthday ordered about 3 thousand worth of steaks that the waiter just randomly picked out for us and didn't ask us how we even wanted it cooked. Gave us all rare without asking at a steakhouse. Also put truffle on all our steaks without asking unacceptable service for a place that charges as much as them. Don't recommend.

Yelp
My husband and I dined here recently, our experience wasn't the greatest. Our server seemed to have been new and did not check up on us, we waited so long for our drinks. I had the salmon and it came cold as if it had been left out sitting. I was so disappointed due to the fact this restaurant is very pricey. Also, the portion size was extremely disappointing. This place is not worth the hype. We will not be back.

Yelp
Prime and Proper is POPPIN'! Both in popularity (incredibly busy on a Saturday @ 9:30pm!) as well as their dry-aged perfection. If you haven't had dry-aged steak -- it makes a WORLD of a difference. Prime and Proper dry ages their steaks for a MINIMUM of 28 days. When you walk downstairs to the restroom, you pass by a beautiful glass room/fishbowl of $XXXK in dry aged meats. Incredible. 4 of us shared: *Roasted Bone Marrow ( $32 - Short Rib, Tabbouleh, Whipped Garlic, Grilled Semolina Bread) - I love me some marrow! The short rib was a nice touch. The tabbouleh was wonderfully bright, which helped to balance the richness of the marrow and short rib. The tabbouleh read more like chimichurri to me but no complaints! Strangely enough they only gave us 3 pieces of bread but it was no problem to ask for more! *Porterhouse ($155) AND Tomahawk ($155) - I've always wanted to an excuse to try a tomahawk and tonight was the NIGHT! It did NOT disappoint. It was just a bit fattier than the Porterhouse which means flavor, flavor, flavor! Because they're the same price point, I'd get the Tomahawk! *Corn Creme Brulee (roasted sweet corn custard, turbinado sugar - $13) - I was a little skeptical of this at first but this was a PERFECT pairing for the extra umami and savoriness from the dry aged steak. Still dreaming about this bite! *Pomme Puree (de roubchon - $12) - Also very good! VERY VERY well whipped though so if you like chunky mashed potatoes, this isn't for you! *Mac & Cheese (Gruyere, Reserve Cheddar, Torchio Pasta - $19) - Tasty! But worth $19? Probably not. The sides seemed like a tiny portion but they're so rich and filling that they're perfect! If I had to pick just ONE side though, it'd be the corn creme brulee hands down. Definitely a treat yourself/celebration kind of meal!

Yelp
We had been looking forward to trying this place for a long time before our visit. It was a mixed bag. The decor is very nice. Our servers were great. I think it was Roger and Brian. Service is 10/10. You can usually find us at the steak places in Chicago so the bar is fairly high. The steak was good, though the price for an 8oz ribeye here is the same as a 16oz in Chicago. We liked the mac and cheese, bread and butter, corn crème brûlée, mashed potatoes, baklava ice cream, chocolate cake, and butter cake with pineapple. The Caesar salad was ok but the dressing did not taste like Caesar dressing to us. I liked the steak sauce ok but my friend did not like it at all. A merlot or cabernet sauce option would have been nice. We did not like the broccoli rabe, mushrooms, or the sauce for the shrimp cocktail. The rabe was dry and bland and did not even seem to have oil or butter on it. The mushrooms were also dry and bland. I have no idea how a place like this could send either of those dishes out and think they are good. We were also charged for water without being told. We often go to upscale places and I have never been charged for water, anywhere. At least tell people in advance. Overall, it was ok but not worth over $400. Go to Gibson's in Chicago and take some notes.

Yelp
Worst restaurant ever. Terrible service. You get two waiters per table and they can't even handle the job. We left before our dinner even came out because two hours of waiting around for food and drinks is ridiculous. Go somewhere else. This place used to be a great restaurant but has sadly taken a turn for the worst. Such a shame. I have a pretty large patience for terrible service and this one just takes the cake.

Yelp
Recently, it was my husband's birthday so we visited Prime and Proper to treat ourselves out to a fancy dinner! We made reservations on Resy in advance - note that you have to have a credit card on file on your Resy account to make this reservation as they charge $50 per person for no shows (a pretty hefty fee). We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation and were told we would be seated at our reservation time so we ordered some drinks at the bar. I enjoyed my drink at the bar and took in the ambiance of the restaurant. It truly is a beautiful restaurant with gold accents, cute decor, and it felt upscale. At 7:00 p.m., they took us to our table and we were seated near the kitchen so I was able to watch them cook everything! We were quite hungry that night and ordered a ton of food: 1. Proper Plateau (seafood tower) 2. Dry Aged Steak Tartare 3. Octopus 4. A-5 Wagyu (3 ounces) 5. Ribeye Filet (8 ounces) 6. Tomahawk Ribeye (32 ounces) And a few cocktails So typically with fancier restaurants, the portions are fairly small and that was the case at Prime and Proper. Although we ordered a ton of food and it sounds like a lot, we were still a tad hungry when we left. I did appreciate that all of the meat was pre-cut which made it easier to eat. Our wagyu, ribeye, and tomahawk were all pre-cut into smaller pieces. This was my first time trying tomahawk and I was a little underwhelmed. 32 ounces sounds like it would be a lot but with the weight of the bone, it really wasn't that much (there was also a decent amount of fat that was inedible too). The service was exceptional, my water was never empty, and our dirty dishes were always promptly cleaned. You definitely are paying for the service and ambiance - it is definitely a special occasion type of restaurant. As we were celebrating a birthday, they brought out a sparkler with a small dessert which was a nice touch. Their bathroom is downstairs and you walk by their dry age meat fridge, which was pretty cool. They offer valet parking or you can find street parking nearby. I do hope to visit again, but it probably won't be anytime soon.

Yelp
We went once and had a meh experience, which I wrote to them about. The restaurant was kind enough to invite us back and we did have a good time, but after taking some time away from our visits, we would probably try a new place before returning. The atmosphere is super swanky and the cocktails were fresh: creative, yet classy. The Dover Sole was actually better than the steak, in my onion. I thought some of the sides were a bit odd...I wanted to like the corn soufflé but wish it were served warm. Our steak the first time was ordered medium rare and same out singed and completely well done. The second time it was cooked better (don't know if that is because our table had been flagged) but still I felt the flavor was lacking. So, in terms of it being a steakhouse, I just didn't love it as much as I wanted to.
