Chill bar & grill with 2 patios, sports on TV & live music, plus a burger & comfort-food menu.
"While there’s no shortage of beach city bars with high prices and a scene, this bar, in the small beach enclave of Playa del Rey, has neither. It’s simply an unpretentious destination for locals and those looking for a chill place to catch the game, any game. Said to be the oldest sports bar in LA — built in the ‘50s and christened “Prince O’Whales” in 1972 — it features 17 TVs, two patios, ping pong, and darts — the makings of a fun night out with friends. On Mondays, score a burger and two draft beers for under $10." - Eater Staff
"An essential Playa del Rey dive bar, it’s a quick walk from the beach, and features absolutely no frills to speak of. Which is why it’s so much fun. Come here and watch the LA Rams on a TV that probably showed the St. Louis Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV" - kat hong, james montgomery
"Despite some recent development, Playa del Rey is still a tiny beach neighborhood that feels perpetually trapped in the year 1967. Prince O’Whales (or pee-oh-dubs, as the locals call it) is doing their very best to keep it that way. The dingy bar in the heart of PDR is actually a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, with a stage for karaoke, ping-pong tables (that are only used for beer pong), and a big back patio for people who want to scream at football. Needless to say, your entire Saturday will pass fairly quickly at POW’s." - Brant Cox
"Close your eyes. Now picture the most quintessential beach dive bar that has ever existed. Now open them. You were imagining Prince O’ Whales. This is a PDR classic and the type of place you go to on a Wednesday night for a beer and walk out hammered with a P.O. Box number written in pen on your palm. There’s karaoke three nights a week, live music on the weekend, beer pong in the back, and plenty of TV’s playing god knows what. This place is the heart and soul of PDR nightlife." - brant cox
"This casual Playa Del Rey spot feels like a college bar filled with surfers and people who have owned their VW van since 1972. There are a bunch of not-flatscreen TVs, a few stained ping pong tables, and two patios that smell like a mixture of the beach and a gas station. We’ll admit that sounds kind of terrible, but the laid-back crowd is what makes this place great. After a couple of whiskey shots with strangers you’ll forget all the hurtful things your agent said when you bombed that cat food audition yesterday." - brett keating
